I came with my sister one day in the middle of the week for lunch, and I am not let down with this decision. In the White Star Market, this kiosk looks the same as all of the other booths. In my review for the WSM I have already mentioned things like how this place is set up and the parking, so I will just stick to the food here. The squash soup tasted like spring. It was a comforting hot in the chilly day, and was a creamy blended soup. I thought it was wonderful. Their salad of the day was a delight. The salad had a mix of greens, small tomatoes, a crunch from a cracker of some sort and roasted potatoes that were just like croutons. Seriously. My sister and I had a whole discussion about these potatoes and how they might have been prepared to get them to this perfection. The vinaigrette dressing was perfectly tossed in the salad, not too overwhelming, just like the perfect accessory. Amazing. The service was good. WOW. I was sooo impressed with MJ's. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but this cafe was amazing. I would eat here everyday for lunch if I could. They have such unique dishes and specials. My friend and I went and shared everything. We started with the chickpea salad that was delicious. It tasted like potato salad kind of. Then we shared the Italian panini and the Thai salad. The panini was fantastic, and I plan to remake this at home. It also came with the soup of the day-- carrot curry bisque. Very good. The Thai salad had a great dressing and tasted very fresh. Truly an impressive plant-based restaurant. I had the buffalo cauliflower wrap with red pepper soup and it was so nice to have a HOT vegan dish! The buffalo cauliflower and chickpea mixture was extremely delicious and I can eat that by itself. I bet it would taste great on corn tortillas, with crackers, ANYTHING. Red pepper soup is one of my favorites and theirs did not disappoint. The nutritional yeast actually adds such a great flavor to it. Even the cookie is "bussin bussin" as the kids say lol read more

One of my FAVORITE vegan restaurants! I've been coming here since they were in White Star (RIP), but I do love their new location on government. My all time favorite, is their Buffalo cauliflower pita wrap. It's absolutely so flavorful and it comes with a salad or you can easily substitute it for a cup of soup. If they have the coconut corn soup, get that! They always have flavored teas, which should be your choice of beverage and their pastries/desserts are a MUST! read more

I finally--finally!--got to give this place a try and I'm so happy that I did. My waitress recommended the vegan pad Thai (special) and it was superb. It reminded me of the Amy's vegan pad Thai that you can get in the freezer section, except way better and obviously, fresher. The portion was huge and you do pay for that, but if I went back with someone I would order this and maybe a soup/salad and share it. In my efforts to continue to have a healthy lifestyle, this place will really be where I can go to have a fantastic meal yet not derail my healthy diet. There are so many scrumptious-looking items on the menu that I would like to try. If there is a negative, for me, it's the hours. I don't usually have the luxury of making it there for lunch due to where I work. It would be cool if they had some later hours at least one or two days during the week. Decent sized menu and awesome dessert specials here and there. Only tried their vegan blt, which was really good. It was made with coconut bacon, and it was quite overstuffed with coconut bacon, which made me feel better after spending like $14 for the sandwich. Ever since I heard they were opening in the WHITE STAR MARKET, I've been wanting to try their food and boy was I impressed ;) I had the BBQ CHICKPEA SALAD. It had cabbage, kale, carrots, cherry tomatoes, avocados, corn, micro sprouts, and pumpkin seed. I was a little hesitant because anything with bbq is always too "bbqey", but I just decided to give it a try. The vinaigrette dressing already tossed with the salad was so yummy. As I started chowing down on the salad, every bite was so flavorful! The bbq chickpeas were seasoned just right. Then, just when I started getting a little tired from the same flavor, I used the avocado dressing. OMG! It was delicious! It made the salad even more awesome. (It already came with the salad) I'm the kind of person that can eat salads for dinner and this was the perfect portion to get full. Absolutely loved this place! Talk about a hidden treasure. My colleague and I were looking for a quick yet healthy lunch and this place was the ticket. My colleague is a vegan (I'm not) but this met dietary desires for all parties. I enjoyed the vegan BLT and was so pleasantly surprised by how delicious and flavorful it was. The coconut bacon was so fun and paired wonderfully with the curried carrot soup! This venue was located in an open food court area which we are thrilled to have found. I've come here three or four times before and have always had a decent experience, but I do feel like they are way overpriced. However I didn't complain being as the food always tastes amazing and because vegan options are few and far between. But after my last visit I decided I will NOT be back. I was so excited to try the quesadilla-- $14 dollars for HALF a quesadilla and a side salad. I was still hungry after. But the worst part was the service I received. The staff was EXTREMELY RUDE, barely spoke or even looked me in the eye. Apparently black vegans don't deserve the same service as those of other races ‍ It's a shame because as I said vegan options in BR are so few but I cannot support a place that's already overpriced but is just so unwelcoming at the same time. read more

I tried their buffalo cauliflower wrap and it was really good. Definitely a lot of food, I don't think I even finished it all. The soup of the day was a curry carrot soup, which was interesting lol. Maybe not my cup of tea, but it wasn't bad! The only complaint I have is that everything was kind of lukewarm/room temperature. I'm not sure if everything is prepared ahead of time and just put together when someone orders, but regardless it was good flavorwise. After a 29 hour drive from California to Baton Rouge we discovered a Vegan option. The yelp hours listed said they closed at 9pm. We arrived a tad after 7pm, a young man greeted us and mentioned they were closed. I mentioned our long drive and he quickly said let me take your order. I ordered a jackfruit gyro and my daughter ordered a salad without dressing. When we received the ordered my daughter noticed her salad was soaked in balsamic. My daughter is raw vegan and she only adds lemons or fruit juices to her salads. I watched her approach the counter. The lady was abruptly rude, she said we are closed. My daughter proceeded to tell her she ordered a salad without dressing and the lady responds by saying that's how the salad comes.. A moment later the same gentlemen walked up and asked the lady what the issue was. He shook his head agreeing that he made a mistake by adding the dressing. Once we both had our meals we were delighted. The food was very tasty and fresh. We will definitely be going back. I give this place 4 stars because of the girls attitude. When you visit an establishment you want to have a overall great experience and her attitude was what we in Cali call "stank" We watched others walk up to the counter after us and her reactions were just uncalled for. You never know who is watching and honey we were. She even went so far as to tell the guy "I want a neon sign that says CLOSED, so that people stop waking up to us" Thanks for the lovely food but I hope she changes her attitude . What a find! This homey little cafe has a small but satisfying menu if you're looking to eat a light, healthy lunch. The focus seems to be on fresh, simple ingredients and the majority of the menu is ovo lacto vegetarian with a couple fish and one vegan sandwich, salad and soup. Sometimes this is all you need, especially when they do their well-edited menu quite well. The vegan soup of the day was pinto bean, which came with a scoop of fresh avocado on top. Very tasty, although when I requested hot sauce, I was very kindly offered jalapenos instead, as they no longer carry Tabasco. I have to admit it's a bit strange for a restaurant in Louisiana not to have hot sauce, but I'm willing to forgive being that they really seem bent on offering up only fresh ingredients. I'm a hot sauce addict and should have had some stashed in my car. The vegan sandwich is really divine. Again, no bells and whistles, but who needs them when the vegetables are so fresh and in season? It's grilled and on incredibly chewy, crusty bread. I appreciate a small business doing right by those of us who avoid flesh, especially in the meat-centric deep south. It's great to have a lunch option when working in Baton Rouge. I love this place. But this is the first time I felt extremely uncomfortable in this place. Me and a friend decided to dine in today. My Server Alisha (not sure of the spelling of her name) made us feel extremely uncomfortable occupying this place. Her mannerisms towards us and our other white counterparts in this same space varied. Let me repeat I never felt like this in this place before today. She was rushing us to eat, and we got here exactly at 10:00am. We had to ask for napkins, extremely impatient when taking our order, and just overall in general she was extremely rude. I love this place for offering a friendly, comfortable vegan environment but today I was floored at the way we were treated. When I come hear I always deal with Emma and she is extremely pleasant every-time I have dealt with her. So when you come here please ask for Emma ! You will not regret it. It's a quaint cafe shares their space with a lovely boutique... makes for a great atmosphere for dining. The owner was very kind and you can tell cares a lot about the quality of the food she serves! I can honestly say that the dishes are served with TLC! I felt very relaxed coming here knowing that I was going to receive excellent customer service. During my last visit, I ordered a cup of Califlower soup, which had the perfect amount of cauliflower chunks in it... I get weirded out by completely pureed soups without the chunk effect! My husband ordered the Shitake Mushroom quiche, which was absolutely divine! Mushroom are one of my favorite ingredients in a quiche, so this was simply perfection! The crusts on their quiches are light and crispy... definitely that homemade texture! First time here and it was amazing. As a plant based eater, I loved that the food was bursting with flavor in every bite. I started with the cauliflower soup that was thick and satisfying with hints of roasted garlic. I then inhaled the cauliflower wrap. The buffalo sauce had the perfect amount of heat that lingered with the punch of flavor. The side salad that accompanied the wrap had amazing berry flavored vinaigrette. Overpriced is an understatement! Got a slice of vegan cake for my mom. It is what she wanted as her bday cake because she does not eat eggs. This is what they think a $7 slice of cake looks like. It is next to a small coffee cup. When brought to the clerk's attention, she didn't see anything wrong with it. they did cut another tiny sliver- which is in the other side - after too long of a back and forth.
