    Denver Omelette

My son had heard good things about MJ's from more than one friend, so we stopped by on a recent weekday at lunch time. They were hopping - we were fortunate to find a table. The menu was extensive, so no problem finding something good for lunch. I was in the mood for more of a brunch, so I had their Denver Omelet: ham, bell pepper and onion. It comes with toast and country or hash potatoes on the side. Service was quick and efficient. All was excellent and reasonably priced. My only hesitation is not their fault: street parking can be a challenge at this downtown Brentwood location.

I love them they give large portions. The food is always delicious. The staff is very kind and friendly. They tend to remember you if you come frequently. If you go on a Saturday morning, you'll be able to catch the beautiful farmers market between 830 and about noon. It's just a wonderful overall experience every week and the menu is phenomenal. Lots of seating well lit busy moments, calm moments never a adult or slow moment

Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from a quaint eatery in Brentwood, California.. MJ's Downtown Cafe. This breakfast to Lunch establishment has both indoor and outdoor covered dining with fans for those warmer than expected days. This cafe serves an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. We arrived on a busy day but were seated soon afterwords. Our drink orders were taken and, upon receiving our beverages, we were then given menus which I thought was odd. Our meals all had pleasant and inciting appearances. The Belgium waffle was excellent as were the side dishes of the sausages and Hash Browns. The Texas French toast, for my tastes, seemed bland. However, when combined with a side order of blueberries, the taste then gave me a smile. Again for my personal desires, I would increase the amount of cinnamon. I would not mind returning sometime in the future to sample the vast array of other dishes. If you are in the Brentwood area and want a fine breakfast or lunch, go to MJ's Downtown Cafe. It is truly a restaurant dedicated to bringing smile to the community.

Green chili omelette, loaded hash brown and a ranch chicken sandwich, recommend the house made chips!

Staff was friendly, the wait was reasonable considering they were busy. All the tables were full, the restaurant was clean and the layout was fairly spread out for a small restaurant. We ordered the loaded hash brown to start, a chicken and ranch sandwich with house made chips, and the Italian Sausage, Green Chili omelette with a side of country potatoes. The food was good and the ingredients tasted fresh. The only downside is they don't offer any non dairy creamer options for their coffee. The desserts looked good too, definitely recommend giving them a try!

Half Order French Toast with one Egg and Ham

The food was so so. My husband got the Half French Toast which was bland and needed more cinnamon for taste. One egg, which was really small. He stated the ham was delicious. My Turkey Club was very dry. I asked for additional mayo. Toast was too dark and the bacon was not cooked to order. The plus is that it had a lot of turkey meat on the sandwich. The Onion Rings were okay. They had a crunchiness to them. The service was great and it has a pleasant and clean atmosphere.

We were in the area for my aunts birthday, visiting from New Jersey, and looking for a delicious brunch. My aunt suggested we visit Cafe MJ. The restaurant ambience itself is just a typical diner like restaurant, nothing fancy, but the food! Best breakfast of my trip! I had the California Benedict which has bacon, avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise on English muffins. I have tried all varieties of eggs Benny in my life, but this one is definitely top 5 for me. Eggs are served with your choice of home fries or hash browns. My aunt opted for a veggie omelet and she did the home fries, so I did the hash browns so I could try both. The hash browns were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Everything about this breakfast made it easy to see why the place had a line out the door. There's a little bakery case by the register with delicious looking muffins, danish, and scones. I was too full to even think of trying them, but they looked amazing. 90s and early 2000s R and B played through the speakers, bringing back the good old days for me, making me thing the place is run by people from my generation. If I lived in the area I'd be here weekly. 5 stars for sure.

The food, service, and ambiance are all warm and comforting. They get pretty busy especially on weekends, so anticipate a wait time! The servers do a great job at accommodating and serving quickly.

This café is definitely one of our go to cafés. It is right downtown Brentwood. They are consistently delicious this time around. I had two eggs over easy with potatoes and bacon. They cook the eggs perfectly every time. This place is always packed, but they get you seated very fast. The ambience is chill. If you're in downtown Brentwood and want to try a great breakfast spot this is it. you will not be disappointed .

Went to the farmers market and worked up an appetite for breakfast. Stopped into MJ's and was immediately greeted and seated. The whole place had that nice small time charm. Waitress was wonderful and the meal was delicious! Recommend for sure.

What we left. I just wanted to leave due to the rude staff.

I'm new to this neighborhood, moved from Hercules..I sat outside in my car to ensure I wrote this review. My daughter and I walked in at 2:30pm. The young lady by the dessert display window saw me walk in and didn't say a word... just stared at me....It was the most awkward feeling. I had to ask her if we sat ourselves down. She said I'll get it and started to walk. She had the worst attitude. There were other folks (2 couples) that walked in after us. She greeted them and sat them down right away which made the feeling even worse because why was she being rude to us? The food came out, my daughter said her sandwich was good but my breakfast was bad. I had my daughter enjoy her food but I couldn't wait to leave... when I was leaving.... again had to ask where to pay. I ended up leaving cash so I could leave as fast as possible. Bad experience. I will never be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome.

The chicken and mushroom omelette, before the house salsa was added.

Great! First I give a 5-star review, then the next time I go here the wait is double what it was my first time visiting. Well, I'd give 4.5 IF that was an option. Sorry, but staff attentiveness could have been a bit better (I know it's tough to do when you're slammed with work but gratuity is bigger, I've been there-done that) . My Chickn/Shroom omelette was amazingly fresh/hot and with the house salsa, had the right amount of flavor (not over-salty). Had their homemade sausage, nothing like cheap typical sausage (can't stand that stuff). I nearly bought some to take home and make a whole meal around that! A bit sad that at 12:30 on a Sunday, they were already out of biscuits n gravy, but now I imagine it's because it tastes like that yummy sausage. Coffee was nice and strong (I'm talking Peet's strong!).

    Veronica A.

I had the omelette "The Relleno" and added chorizo to it = 9/10 They were completely slammed so service was very slow. However, the food was tasty so I'd definitely be back to try more items.

I was holding off on writing a review until I had the chance to go a few times since the new head…read morechef came in and revamped the menu. Now that I have had two dinners, on March 5th and 27th, and a recent brunch, June 6, here is what I can conclude: The Food: Everything I have tried on the menu so far has been pretty flipping delicious beautifully, but not pretentiously, presented looking and tasting like a truly from scratch kitchen (which did not seem to be the case with the previous chef/menu). Standout mains included a beef stroganoff special, the fish and chips and possibly the best shrimp and grits (might be only a weekend brunch item?) I have ever had (to the point that I am likely to go back and have it again in the next week or two) Standout apps were the raw oysters (especially the in house pickled watermelon mignonette), the pulled pork sliders, brussel sprouts and recently a new buffalo style baby back ribs with shaved celery and blue cheese crumbles (it was so good my sister would not let us finish it so that she could take the last bite home to share with my brother in law and give him pointers) Standout desserts included the bread pudding and the cream brulee. The Drinks: Cocktails had a rougher start but were excellent in June. Back in March the cocktail menu seemed a bit confused. Several drinks I tried were incredibly unbalanced (and whether that was due to bad recipes or errors while executing said recipes who knows). I feel like they might not always have had an experienced bartender behind the bar, back in March, because one time it was something as simple as a gin & tonic that was accidentally made with plain soda because the syrup had run out and no one seemed to know how to help correct the issue. Whoever revamped the cocktail menu, please accept a huge THANK YOU! I will now be drinking my way through the menu over my next several visits. The standouts recently were the exceptional clarified milk punch cocktail called Sweet Disposition and the Strawberry Letter. The Service: Excellent. Everyone I have interacted with, especially the serving staff, have been attentive and took brief moments to make kind personal connections. One even gushed about how happy they have been seeing the changes implemented by this new incoming chef. The Venue: It has a relaxed golf course club room atmosphere with a main upstairs dining room and patio seating (weather permitting). There is also a downstairs area with an additional bar and space for live music (which seems to be a regular occurrence). I appreciated the separation which allowed for distinct vibes depending on your mood. My apologies that I have no picture to share (though the food and drinks were photo worthy) I was too busy enjoying myself.

If you're familiar with Korean BBQ then you know the sides are the best. My favorite sides were Kimchi, Bean sprouts, cucumber and potatoes. The service was great! Sometimes they may take a while to get to you but they will not forget you. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining (with beautiful water fountains outside). Price: I think it might be pricey for some but it's totally worth it for all the food you get. Entertainment: You can expect karaoke singing! I don't sing but I love the entertainment. The manager Rex was very nice to accommodate our huge party. He had this great smile and great energy to match our group! Honorable mention - thank you Steve for playing the Sax. A bonus entertainment. Tips: This restaurant is located in a golf course so it might be confusing to find at first. But if you have the correct address you will get there. Such a cute neighborhood hang with a park across the street, ice cream and beer locales next door, and street parking to enjoy it all. Love that they have corn hole and toys for the kiddos out. The menu is pretty straight forward, and on weekends they have brunch specials too. But, we figured we had to try the smash burgers! They have a kiddo menu which is so cute (see photo) and offer smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, fries (steak frites and "filthy" fries with cheese, sauce, caramelized onions, pepperonis, chives), salads, and bowls. I love that you can do a Sando as a salad/bowl. I went with the Yard Bowl that comes with brown rice and veggies, topped with fried chicken. It was SO good. Hearty, great quality, and really just an overall stellar meal. We also grabbed smash burgers and the "Filthy Fries". There is a $12 meal that comes with a smash burger and plain fry combo which I feel is a pretty smashing deal :) They serve Alameda soda and have a really cool beer/wine/cocktail menu. I had to try the Brentwood Corn Fest cocktail that comes with vodka, lemon, creamed corn puree, jalapeño, and an elote rim. It was spectacular, and I didn't mind paying $14 for such a fresh, well-crafted, innovative drink. You get a buzzer after you order, and honestly the drink/food came out pretty fast! Very turnkey ordering process. Delicious way to spend a weekend afternoon. Seems like such an awesome community hang spot. Would love to try their Pickle Spritz next time (gin, pickle juice, dill, soda water)! I noticed Liberty Faculty students receive 10% off which I think is so cool. And..they use Martins Potato Buns..if you know, you know! Overall, I'm a fan. Great service, great feels, great hometown vibes. Hope to be back again soon!
