The food and service here is amazing but really, the food. The appetizers were delicious-we had the lobster cones, escargot and tomato tartlet with wine or cocktails - all very good. After that some had ravioli, mac n cheese gnocchi (sooo good), seafood paella... you can't go wrong! Creative and delicious and what a wonderful selection of options! We shared desserts to try different ones and the cheesecake, chocolate cake and tiramisu were favorites... can't wait to come back again soon! read more

I want to start off by saying I feel horrible giving this place 2 stars, let me explain why... The service was excellent. The atmosphere was so cozy and inviting and I was lucky and got parking in front of the entrance. We were a large party and everyone but me seemed to enjoy their dinner. The drinks were delicious as well. My particular meal is what I would rate a 2 star, the rest I would give at least 4. I feel like a 2 is harsh, however I had the mussels and although they looked appealing they were very different to taste. They smelled strongly and tasted extremely fishy and unpleasant like garbage. I ate a few to be polite because I was being treated to dinner and did not want to be rude, especially because everyone else raved about their apps. I was very disappointed as mussels are one of my favorite foods and I have had them at many fine dining establishments and never experienced this before. They made me feel sick to my stomach. My risotto was good. I am pretty picky when it comes to my risotto, so I'm sure most people would be fine with it. For me it was average and I wish it had been creamier. The desert I had was cheesecake. Presentation was lovely and the cheesecake itself was absolutely to die for with wonderful flavors of pumpkin and vanilla. The crust however was so hard I gave up and didn't eat it. My fork could not break through. I shouldn't have to struggle to cut a cheesecake. We did bring my husband a doggie bag of the braised short ribs and boy, was I jealous. It was great. Flavorful and a great portion. The mashed pototoe was excellent with a slight horseradish kick. His meal was at least a 4. As I said, I hate giving a 2, but I have never tasted mussels like that before and it was incredibly disappointing. I will probably not be back and Gorham isn't in my neighborhood, but I hope my experience was a rare one because MK seems like a lovely place. read more

Had been here in the past and loved it but went again recently and will not be back. The space was loud and the waitress was obviously overextended but we were given even less attention (maybe we didn't look rich or pretentious enough?) There was no alcohol in the $12 watered down cocktail and the risotto was so cold and undercooked that is was barely edible. We had to repeatedly ask for more water, which was promptly forgotten. Definitely not worth the price or the drive, which is a shame because they used to be so good. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting MK kitchen with a large group and ended up having a lovely meal with great company. I was a little late arriving so by the time I got there, my friends were enjoying the beautiful charcuterie boards. Goat cheese, gouda, candied walnuts - what more could you want (okay, maybe some salty meats) from an appetizer? I ordered a cocktail with gin and rosemary - it was subtle and if I'm honest, a bit underwhelming, but still refreshing and tasty. For dinner I ordered the salmon because there was really no way I could have turned down citrus caper vinaigrette. It was delicious! And the portion was incredibly generous. All in all a great plate. For dessert (I was indulging!) I ordered the cheesecake. It was good but the fruit compote on top seemed unnecessary and out of place. While the meal was lovely, the service is what really stood out to me. Our server was excellent and the Chef's visit to our table was much appreciated. Warm, friendly service and professionalism don't always go together, but they go hand-in-hand at MK Kitchen. My only criticism, and it's a small one, is that I would love for the menu at MKK to have more of a neighborhood bistro vibe than fine dining - or maybe it could include multiple price points. On the night we were there, there were no other tables occupied, just a few people at the bar and I couldn't help but think that a more accessible menu with lower prices on some items might encourage more repeat business and a full dining room. As a Gorham High grad, it was great to roll back into town (via a rotary no less) to a modern spot with amazing cuisine. My wife and I ate here a few nights ago and we were absolutely blown away at what we feel is a Portland, Maine caliber restaurant in the heart of Gorham. I started with the roasted autumn squash soup and my wife had the mushroom risotto. Both were simply fantastic. The squash soup was excellent, a perfect compliment to the chilly Fall night. The mushroom risotto was also excellent, wonderfully executed and the mushrooms added a great meaty and earthy taste. For our entrees I had the herb grilled salmon and my wife had the chicken under a brick. My salmon was cooked to perfection and the butternut squash risotto, cranberry compote and fried Brussels created a very Fall feeling and taste. Every bite was just as fantastic as the last. My wife's dish was equally fantastic with the ricotta gnocchi, spring vegetables and lemon emulsion pulling it all together for a well executed dish. The chicken was cooked well (my wife is very picky about how her chicken is cooked) and the lemon emulsion created a nice light taste to it all. We ended the night with a pair of deserts, vanilla crème brulée for me and tiramisu for my wife. Again, we couldn't be happier with our selections. The atmosphere of MK Kitchen was very nice, though mostly open it was not very loud which made conversation very easy. The hostess was very pleasant and accommodating. The wait staff were fantastic. The pace was relaxed so we did not feel rushed eating and could really sit and enjoy our food. It is located right on the corner of the main intersection in Gorham and there is not much for parking, but we were able to snag a spot right out front. We went on a Friday night and it was busy, so I would certainly recommend a reservation. If you've tried similar restaurants in Portland then this will be a pleasant addition to your rotation. read more

First dining experience here @MK Kitchen. Nicely renovated space in downtown Gorham. Visited on a busy Friday evening. Great friendly wait staff. Eclectic cocktail menu, and nice wine selections. We got a medium bodied bottle of Chardonnay for $26. Complimentary homemade Focaccia with EVOO for dipping. The focaccia was fresh, and pillowy. Great quality. There are a variety of appetizers, and salads to start. We chose the Wedge salad with heirloom tomatoes, local goat cheese, bacon and the best homemade buttermilk dressing I have ever tasted! Fresh and tangy, so good you could slather it on anything for flavor enhancement. For entrees we chose the homemade Gnocchi Primavera served with a local fresh vegetable medley. The dish was perfectly executed. Fresh, light and yet filling for a hot summer night. Our other entree was the Chili BBQ Pork Shank with bacon Mac and cheese, and fried Brussel Sprouts. This dish was a flavor bomb!!! The pork was perfectly spiced, succulent, and fall off the bone tender. Enough for 2 meals. The Mac and cheese was delicious, prepared with Vermont Cheddar and applewood smoked bacon. Creamy, cheesy and ooey gooey! YUMMY! This place is impressive, and rivals fine dining in Portland for much less money. Highly recommend and cannot wait to return. read more

I think we've eaten MK more *since* COVID than before.. and only since doing take out did I discover how truly *excellent* the burgers are. I always loved 'happy hour' best at MK - the cocktails are great, and the apps are the best thing on the menu, IMO. Some of the 'mains' are a little underwhelming, or at least, very traditional. You're not going to get nouveau cuisine at MK, but you are going to get very, very good food, with excellent service. read more

My fiancé and I went to MK Kitchen for her 30th birthday and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere and coziness of the restaurant was exactly what I was looking for a romantic late night dinner. The service was exceptional in every way and everything was very clean. We both really enjoyed our meals. I had the filet with risotto and she had the rigatoni bolognaise which we both enjoyed. We also had some small sides and a salad which was delicious. I had booked the reservation through open table and noted that it was a birthday occasion. MK Kitchen paid special attention and had a card with a special birthday note prepare and also gave us a small strawberry sorbet treat with a chocolate sauce happy birthday message on the plate. MK Kitchen made us feel very special with these actions and it definitely added to my finance birthday experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for date nights and friend/family dinners. I was in Portland on business looking for a quiet place for a nice meal with a colleague. MK Kitchen was in a good location and had great reviews. Showed up on time and my colleague had already arrived. Staff had seated her and taken very good care. I had pan seared scallops that were perfect. My colleague had salmon that was equally well done. I have only had takeout since pandemic and they have the most organized, impressive takeout system I've experienced. I work in the restaurant industry in Portland. I will not compare mentioning any unpleasant experiences as I know everyone is lacking help. Let's just say MK is much better at it! Worth the Drive! We went out with friends the other night and they suggested we try MK Kitchen out in Gorham. Being in Portland, we usually walk most place we go, but we were willing to trek out to Gorham and we are glad we did. It is set in the middle of the main streets in Gorham but we were able to find parking nearby. The seating is very nice, wood tables that are slightly larger than you would find in smaller places, which was a nice change. We were greeted quickly and offered drinks. We tried several different ones and they were all good. Dinner was paced well and the food excellent. Between the four of us we tried the grilled caesar salad, the beets and the mushroom tart. The tart was a standout. For entrees, we had the gnocchi mac and cheese, the risotto, the lamb, and the rigatoni. I tried them all but I had the mushroom risotto and loved it. It was excellent! So if you are planning on going, make sure to get a reservation as it was very busy the night we were there and give yourself a few minutes extra to find parking, but it is well worth it! read more

We are split on the Brussel sprouts. They were a little dry. Also. Be sure that the wine you ordered is what you asked for. Table of four. We split three appetizers. Lobster cones were an interesting take on a roll and quite well done. Creme caramel duck pate. While eating remember it was supposed to be a soft Flavor. The custard and the figs worked very well. The grilled Caesar was perfectly cooked. The special of ricotta with lamb and feta was an excellent choice for a combination of Light and dark. Tangy and savory. Scallops were cooked perfectly. The cold tomato relish added a complementary taste. As well as the risotto. Truly enjoyed the option of pasta dishes as sides or dinners so that we don't get overwhelmed and we could enjoy more dishes. Rigatoni with bolognese was flavorful and lived up to expectations. Panko flounder was "quite alright". The vegetable were a little dry. However with some drizzled olive oil. It worked!! read more

I have seen this space change hands from a Mexican restaurant to a thrift store to just empty space for months on end. I never would have expected the space could feel so warm and modern and intimate as it does now. I walked in and immediately felt like this was a place that can bring some fine dining to Gorham without making it seem out of place or out of touch. I am excited to try out the happy hour in the future. I came with a large group and the service was excellent. They handled our bills and requests well - and I know coming in with that many people can be a burden, so I am sensitive to that. There was even a note one the table welcoming us. Such a small touch that was just so lovely. I started with the MK cider- a lovely bourbon drink, that is meant to be had at the beginning - quite strong, but I loved it so much I turned to my friend and proclaimed, "I think bourbon is my spirit animal." My food was just about top to bottom excellent. We had the cheese board - which, I could have happily had on its own .. and I am not sure I didn't. They were generous with the bread - a great foccacia. I had the beet salad with some goat cheese - great hearty small plate. I also ordered the small portion of the spring risotto, and those fried Brussel sprouts on top were amazing. I had a hard time not licking the bowl clean. I tried some of my friend's mushroom tart (getting it next time) and fries with a spicy ketchup (hello, happy hour). The portion size of the plates were confusing - did not seem to be that big of a difference between my friends large order and my small. I ended with the tiramsu - good flavor, it was a bit soggy, but clearly that did not stop me from devouring it. I really appreciated the options that were outlined on the menu for veg, vegan and gluten free options. It seems that many of their dishes can be altered, making it more flexible for different people. It was a great touch. Parking observation - how do people park blocks away from a restaurant in Portland and immediately when they go to a "burb" can't be bothered to walk a few blocks? There is plenty of parking in Gorham. Just like any restaurant, plan ahead, and it is not MK's fault. read more

I highly recommend going here for happy hour or apps at the bar. The sit down menu, however, is very overpriced for Gorham and the food is nothing special. I wish I had taken a few shots of the inside of the restaurant as it's a lovely atmosphere. Very comfy & inviting. I'm a fan for sure. I went with a large group and we were treated wonderfully. Our server was fabulous. We started with the cheese board, which was so good. Anything with locally sourced cheese is a plus in my book. Three kinds of cheese, goat, blue and smoked cheddar. The smoked cheddar was definitely my favorite. As an app I ordered the risotto. It was a bit busy for me it had carrots, peas, wilted spinach, roasted mushrooms, fried brussel sprouts & parmesan. Now that's a busy risotto. I'm used to just the creamyness of the arborio rice & maybe another component but not several other veggies. The carrots were under done & too crunchy, however, the star was the fried brussel sprouts. I think I like a traditional risotto better but I'm glad I tried this. For my entree I got the pan roasted mussels. This was pretty traditional in a white wine, parsley, lemon zest & garlic butter broth served with grilled focaccia bread. The mussels were plump & juicy. The broth could have been more flavorful but it was a good dish. I also enjoyed a few glasses of chardonnay. I love a big wine glass with cold wine & that's exactly what I got. It sounds petty but I'm telling you a nice, big wine glass is part of enjoying a glass of wine. It can be cheap wine but pour it in a nice wine glass & it tastes better. Really, I'm serious! It was probably a 6 oz pour so it looked like a small amount of wine in that lovely glass but it was perfect. All in all I enjoyed MK Kitchen. I really really do not like to give a bad or so so review, but at the same time I always want to know what people are saying about new restauraunts. Also, in writing this, it is always good practice to read all reviews from everyone to decide if a restaurant is a place you want to try. Especially when most of the reviews are good as in this restaurant. My husband and I went and sat at the bar because there was no room in the diningroom. The atmosphere is pretty, a definite change for the scene in Gorham, matching the looks of places like Walter's and David's. The bar itself is pretty, made of concrete with twinkling lights that look like stars shining through. Unfortunately, the wine and liquor list was surprisingly very small and expensive. The bar service was lacking, even with the bartender right in front of us my water was empty most of the time until I asked for more. My wine was nice, but again see the first sentence in the paragragh. The menu looked really promising, tasty sounding dishes. We orderd the mussels, gnocchi, ceasar salads, & chicken under a brick. Now I am a HUGE fan of mussels, in fact we go to Congress Street bar monthly just so I can grab theirs. Again, unfortunately, these were the smallest portion, and not at all tasty. Gnocchi, another favorite, small even for the larger portion with not a lot of flavor. The ceasar salads however were pretty great, the dressing is amazing and they charred the romaine which gave it a wonderful smokey flavor, Finally the chicken, a bit dry, and once again not a lot of flavor. Dessert was a chocolate mousse in a small mason jar, cute and flavorful. All in all, for a final bill of over $100.00 was not enough to ever bring us back to give them another try even though we live nearby. I can't see people purposly driving to Gorham to eat here when there are so many other places like MK, that have wonderful food and are not out of the way. read more

We just had an excellent meal at MK Kitchen tonight. Service was perfect- friendly and attentive but not too much. Wine list is very nice and cocktails looked good but we just had wine. We started with the cheese plate and the mussels- wonderful! Then we had the burger, the panko breaded haddock, and the special paella. For dessert, chocolate cake and creme brûlée. The food was fresh, healthy and not over-salted- which is a nice change from Many restaurants we have been throughout the country. The atmosphere was sophisticated but fun. Another restaurant that has been on my "To try" list for well over a year. I went with a group of friends on a Friday night. They were able to accommodate our last minute reservation for a party of six. When we arrived the bar was full and the restaurant was about 3/4 full. Our server was attentive and answered our many questions about the menu and specials. I split the lobster cones with a friend, the cones are mini sized but packed full of small pieces lobster topped with caviar, they were quite good. For my main meal I ordered the short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes and fried Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were amazing, tender on the inside and the perfect amount of crispiness on the outside. The short ribs were flavorful but a bit on the dry side. The mashed potatoes were good and the horse radish was not too overpowering. My friend had the chicken under a brick, I tried a bite and it was amazing. I will definitely be back again to try the other menu items. read more
