We stopped by MKT bar after going to a nearby festival where the food was meh and it was just what we needed! The waffles were great and the syrup and cardamom whipped cream were so delicious. My husband got a side of bacon and we both loved it. Our waitress was so fun and sweet and when we were done we enjoyed exploring the market, which is a pretty impressive size for the location btw!

The service is friendly, although a bit slow at times. The food options offer lite bites but also some choices for an entire meal, the prices are reasonable. This is attached to Phoenicia so it's the perfect spot to sit down, have some food, and check out the international items that Phoenicia has to offer before or after. There is street parking and Phoenicia also offers garage parking although that can feel a bit tight.

MKT bar offers a more upscale restaurant experience compared to its neighboring phonecia's hot bars. Since they're typically a bar, service is definitely on the slower side for food. Dishes are a mix of American and Mediterranean cuisine. Got the zataar fries, sweet potato fries and the Mediterranean chicken skewers. Fries were addicting and the garlic aoli paired perfectly with it. They messed up on bringing a side of Brussel sprouts that we requested bringing it towards the end of the meal after we reminded them of it. And on top of that it wasn't covered in bacon and cheese which it didn't have. It's a decent spot but I'd say go for drinks rather than food.

How things have changed since that visit. I've been to MKT bar many times in the past two years, but today's experience was enough to make me change my mind. If an employee named Jordan answers the phone, please ask to speak with someone else. Jordan is unaware that when you place an order online, your location is requested, which gives you the impression that the order will be brought to your car. When I indicated this to Jordan she had an issue. She is unaware of how the system works and was unwilling to take a look at the screenshot that I took to share with her. When I entered when I entered to pick up my food, Jordan was talking with friends and refused to hand me my food. She tried to pretend that I was rude to her. I was not at all rude, but went immediately into teacher mode to help her understand something she was unaware of. Who knows how long my food was waiting, but it was worth it to educate Jordan. *Jordan did not introduce herself. My apologies if I misspelled her name.

Great every time we go and everything we get is awesome. Five stars for George as well. No one makes you feel more at home and glad to see you come in than him. Brunch, steak night, happy hour, they do it all. Live music at brunch to boot. All this and attached to a world class market! This is a must do!

Went here for a team lunch and had a decent time. We can early so there wasn't a wait or it wasn't packed. The ambiance was pretty cool. There is a stage area with a piano, I'm sure there lots of open mic nights or some sort of entertainment that happens at this bar. We ordered pizza and fries and everything was pretty good. Nothing really stood out to me but it was tasty and I would go back again

We came on a very busy day but left very happy overall. Steak night was well worth it. We will definitely be back.

MKT Bar is never the first place that pops into my mind when I'm looking for breakfast/brunch, but honestly it should - it boasts a vast menu, opens earlier than other morning eateries in Downtown, offers free garage parking, and is conveniently attached to Phoenicia, the Mediterranean/international supermarket at which I aspire to do all my grocery shopping. I recently went back to MKT last weekend for brunch prior to a matinée at the Downtown AMC - here are my thoughts on what we tried: Hill-Country Chicken & Waffle - It's your standard chicken and waffle, played straight. The waffle is crisp and tasty, though I felt the chicken was a bit dry/boring. Next time I'd probably choose one of the other more exciting menu options. Baklava Pancakes - I am definitely not a pancake person, yet I really loved these! They remind me of the thin German pancakes that I used to get at IHOP: thicker and bouncier than a crêpe, but much slimmer than a traditional buttermilk. They're layered with crushed pistachios, freshly sliced figs, and a floral orange blossom honey...so good! Choco-Halva Latte - This espresso drink caught my eye when I was looking for a fun caffeinated pick-me-up. The waiter assured me it wouldn't be too sweet and he was thankfully correct - think of a rich, dark mocha with nutty, toasted undertones. This was great paired with the sweet pancakes! Service was speedy and very cordial - we were in-and-out in 45 minutes and had some spare time to peruse the supermarket prior to our showtime. I'll be back soon to eat my way through the rest of the menu!

Surprisingly good prices and food options. I split the tangy wings (which were large), the cauliflower bites (looked tiny but tasted amazing), and the MKT salad for two of us and it was under $50. We also got gelato afterward and their flavors were delicious. Great spot before catching a Rockets game or concert at Toyota Center!

Solo dinner on 3/25/2025 after a hectic day at the conference center + Food on point (I had salmon with asparagus and quinoa & shoestring fries) + Drinks on point (I had the raspberry Mojito) + Post dinner coffee on point (I had the iced mocha) + Staff are friendly, efficient, and attentive + Cool, chill vibes all around + Cool decor Highly recommended!

So I really like Mkt Bar. Everything is fresh, they use quality ingredients. From time to time I come on my lunch break. Generally will sit at the bar to expedite service as I don't have long to order and eat. Staff is accommodating and nice. However, I do feel they are understaffed. The clientele that comes here wants interaction not just order taking so that pulls the staff from attending to other guest. I'm a low maintenance guest that doesn't really need much conversation if I'm there for lunch but I need to get in and out. Today I ordered the fish and chips. I did ask the bartender which to choose between the chicken skewers or fish. Sometimes I just don't want to decide I like to hear other suggestions outside my own gut. The fish was cooked perfectly and was accompanied with an aioli, Zataar fries, and coleslaw. I requested hot sauce and the bartender ensured I had it before my food was there. That was a nice touch. My fries were cold though which she immediately communicated it to be fixed. I appreciated the effort and them making it right. Although I would have like to enjoy my entire dish I paid full price for and tipped together not separate. Management take the opportunity to be accountable and give a discount for the inconvenience next time there is a kitchen hiccup.

    Egg white spinach fritatta
    Maria S.

We were a big group who were headed to see Christmas lights around Downtown. Live music was playing during brunch. It's too loud and you can't have a conversation. I wish they had more items on the breakfast menu. I approached the grocery store side but they weren't serving breakfast any more in the cafeteria-type setting. So I opted for an egg white spinach fritatta in the Mkt Bar. It's a big serving and I don't like to waste. But I could only eat half. So I recommend diners share the fritatta. The waiter brought Tabasco and Cholula sauces. I added a bit of cholula to give it more flavor. The egg dish doesn't have much flavor. While the ambiance is lively, I wouldn't go back since I can't have a conversation due to the loud live music played during brunch.

    Raspberry mojito
    Kelsey W.

It was delicious. This was on my list because Seed Oil Scout states that they don't use seed oils. I got a chicken sandwich and we had the plantain chip appetizer and everything was absolutely delicious. Service wasn't top-tier, but wasn't awful! The ambience was good with a jazz band playing. It was super super loud, but we sat close to the stage so it was to be expected. Overall, I would love to be back! In the market that it's connected to is so cute!

We weren't drinking so we did mocktails. Their selection is solid. I recommend the Million Dollar Baby and the New Madness. For the oysters, we did 2 of each: fried, smoked and roasted. I would low key just come back for oysters next time. They were that damn good. I was let down by the dry-aged burger. Even though I ordered the burger as medium, it was pretty dry. I've had better burgers from joints around town. Not worth $24. The Chicken entree was an absolute let down. I won't even elaborate. Some of our favorite entrees were the carrot soup and crab rice. Both were out of this world. For me the food was 3/5, service (aside from staff forgetting occasion of visit) 5/5, value 3/5. Also valet parking is $8. I'm still undecided if I'll be back. Need to recover from spending $275 on a single dinner. Ouch.

Is this the most overrated restaurant in Houston?…read more After being on my "To Try" list for an unacceptable amount of time, I finally made my way over to Nancy's Hustle. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar with no reservation. I arrived about 30 minutes into open and there was already a wait list. I suggest getting there early or making a reservation if you're not a solo diner. The interior is nice and intimate, with low lighting that doesn't work well for photos but definitely for a cozy dinner. The set up and music reminded me a little bit of 93 Til due to the decor. I started with the duck dumplings and the Nancy cakes. I wasn't expecting it but they offer half orders which is great for a solo diner who wants to try multiple things. Both items were delicious. The dumplings had a nice savory sauce with some texture from the peanuts. These were great but probably my bottom of the list which is saying something. I would only say this because they reminded me a lot of the hot oil wontons from duck and bao so at that price point, you might as well get more. The Nancy cakes were pillowy and savory and made a great vessel for honey butter and roe. I even used a bit to dunk into the leftover dumpling sauce. I suggest eating these as soon as they hit your table. I was trying to savor my bites but the cakes benefit a lot from being nice and hot. It's not the most ground breaking dish in the world but it's done well and I would definitely call it a must order. I could have eating a full order of it alone. My main dishes is where my mind was blown. I went with the roast chicken and half order of the gem lettuce salad and fries. This might be the best roast chicken I've ever had in Houston. Chicken can be a hit or a miss because sometimes, there just isn't much flavor. This was absolutely not the case here. The chicken was juicy and seasoned to the core. It even heated up well as left overs without being dry. The chili sauce on the bottom was flavor intensified and as I swiped my chicken through the pools of sauce, I thought to myself "overrated where?!". The gem salad caught me by surprise. I'm not one to stay away from a salad at a restaurant because they typically do them better than you can make at home . Nancy's Hustle solidified this opinion. The salad was wonderfully briney and savory. The lettuce was crisp and covered in the herby shallot dressing that grabbed my taste buds. Topped with anchovies and pancetta for a nice salty touch. So so good. The fries were the perfect side, crisp and not too potatoey (yes this is a thing). I traded in the aoli for some ketchup because that's just my thing. I concluded this wonderful dining experience with a dessert. Buttermilk ice cream with cornflakes, black berries and honey butter cookie. This dessert was a lesson in balance. Every component was present , sweet, salty, crunchy, cool. Each bite had something new to offer and combined into a perfectly executed dessert. As a cocktail, I tried their tropical drink. I don't remember what it was called but I know I could have drank about 7 of those. This was a great dining experience. I think when things get popular, sometimes we feel the need to be contrarians with our experiences. That wasn't the case for me. Nancy's Hustle has earned its popularity and I'll definitely be back

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

Flavors, flavors, flavors! This was another on our list of Michelin Bibendum spots to try, and we…read morethoroughly enjoyed the meal. We started with a dozen oysters 2 ways. The first were "natural" and nicely briny. The 2nd was pure genius: they said it would taste like a Big Mac, and they were spot on. Amazing! Steak Tartare - the steak and deviled egg mixture were satisfyingly velvety and the accompanying bread was buttery, chewy, and addictive; Puff Puff Pass - unique textures: crispy, chewy, smooth elements are married beautifully. Nonno's Pasta - this dish was my least favorite. I found the flavors to be too cheese forward with not enough acid; Jamon With Your Bad Self - while not much to look at, this dish was outstanding. The pork's texture was simply magical, and the flavors well-balanced. On the side, we had the Fingerlingin Good potatoes, and they lived up to their name: pleasantly crispy and bursting with savory goodness. Desserts: the Olive Oil Cake was a dream: incredibly moist and tender with vanilla richness and a kiss of lemon. The Black Bottom Pie was not my favorite. I would the salt to be too much and couldn't eat more than 2 bites because of it. Service: warm, gracious, attentive, and efficient. As for ambiance, this is where the restaurant misses the mark for me. It's in an old house, and when we walked in, that's exactly what I smelled: old house. Still, if you're looking for a unique, creative menu that delivers on flavors, add nobie's to your bingo card.

Unfortunately, I've been consistently underwhelmed, especially considering the prices. Today, the bill was approximately $65 for two hamburgers, fries, an iced tea, and a Coke (and they even charge for Coke refills--my friend had two). Beyond the cost, they seem to treat ketchup like it's a luxury item. For two burgers and fries, they brought out a single small ramekin, and it always feels like you have to ask repeatedly for more. Another frustration is their attitude toward reservations. Every time I've visited, they've made a point of mentioning that I didn't have one. This time, I specifically made a reservation through OpenTable, only to later see it marked as canceled. I'm not sure why, but it certainly left a bad impression. Overall, the food is fine, but the combination of high prices, nickel-and-diming on basics, and the overall customer experience means this won't be one of my preferred lunch spots going forward.

First, we got there pretty early for our reservation. We sat almost immediately upon check in. Our waiter was in training but did a really good job. Ordered a whiskey sour. Was seated at the bar so I got to watch it be made. The bartender- man that guy never stopped. He was organized and just did his thing. So many pretty drinks were made while I was there watching. The pink one, whatever it was, was really pretty! On to the food. We got two apps, two meals, and two desserts. Husband ordered the Brussels, Steak Frites, and the Devil's Affogato. I got the Bacon covered Dates, the Pizza, and the Sticky Toffee Cake. The Brussels were good - husband liked them more than me. They were good. Had cashews in them. Little spicy. The bacon covered dates. Think this was my favorite bite. Sweet, salty, creamy. Came we three & I had two. The pizza was sweet and salty as well. The crust was so good and fresh. The arugula set it off so well. Def a buy again! The Steak Frites was so good. The chimichurri sauce was perfect. Just the right mount of citrus. Steak was tender and the fries seasoned well. The desserts - don't skip them! The Devils Affogato we had the first time we ate at Sixty Vines. Had to have it again. If you like coffee, chocolate and vanilla ice cream just get it. Restaurant vibe is relaxed and clean. There were several large parties and what looked like a lot of date night guests. Just try it. No regrets!!

Unfortunately, just like my first visit, they were not fully met. We had reservations for brunch, and our party of six was seated immediately on the beautiful second floor. Service was efficient throughout the meal, with our waiter taking our orders promptly and the food arriving quickly. To start, we ordered the Brussels and the hummus. The Brussels were cooked very well and had an excellent crispy texture, but I felt the kung pao vinaigrette lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. A little more sweetness and acidity would have helped brighten the dish and make it more memorable. The hummus, on the other hand, pleasantly surprised me. Both the red beet hummus and edamame hummus were flavorful and enjoyable. They paired well with the crisp flatbread and even served as a nice accompaniment to some of our less exciting entrées. For my meal, I ordered the marinated artichoke pizza, which unfortunately did not stand out. I had the same issue that I experienced during my previous visit: the crust was simply too thick and chewy. After a few slices, my jaw was genuinely getting tired from all the chewing. The pizza also could have benefited from more bacon and a more generous amount of sauce, as it came across a bit dry overall. The campanelle suffered from a similar problem. While I understand that simplicity was likely the goal, the dish was so understated that it ended up feeling bland. It tasted like a slightly elevated version of buttered pasta with just a hint of white wine. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but it lacked the depth of flavor needed to make it memorable. On a much more positive note, the carrot cake pancakes were easily the star of the meal. I tend to gravitate toward savory breakfasts, but my sister was eager to try them, and I am so glad she did. These were not your typical pancakes. They were thick, fluffy, and incredibly soft in the center. With toppings like maple butter, maple cream, mascarpone whip, candied walnuts, and cardamom sugar, I expected the dish to be overwhelmingly sweet. Surprisingly, everything was balanced quite well. While I cannot imagine finishing an entire plate by myself, anyone with a sweet tooth would absolutely love them. Overall, this restaurant continues to impress me with its atmosphere, service, and a few standout dishes, but the entrées I have tried have not lived up to the hype. If I were to return, I would happily order the hummus and carrot cake pancakes again, but I would probably skip the pizza and pasta in favor of trying something new.

There's two homes converted into a restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating as well. It was a beautiful, sunny day so we decided to sit under the shade outside. For drinks we ordered sangria and pineapple mimosas. The blueberry ginger pancakes seemed like a hit based on reviews so I ordered that as my entree. The portion size was huge so it was very filling. The ginger was not overwhelming at all and really complemented the sweetness of the blueberry toppings. I also ordered a the pork belly deviled eggs which were pretty yummy as well. My fiancé ordered the gumbo which was very savory and filled with the perfect combo of shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage. The service was good as well. Our waiter checked on us several times throughout our meal. Very solid brunch spot in the heights!
