    Cornbread and hush puppies
    Kiah B.

Went for Houston Restaurant Week with a 5:30 reservation, and the timing set the tone. We didn't get our appetizers until more than an hour after being seated. The staff kept apologizing for the wait, but there was no explanation and nothing comped, which made a long gap feel longer. When the apps finally came, they weren't worth it. The cornbread was incredibly dry, and the hush puppies had no seafood flavor at all, bland overall and paired with an odd BBQ-style sauce that didn't work. The filet flight was the one clear standout, cooked perfectly and easily the best thing we ordered. After that it dropped off again: the sides were oversized but flat on flavor, the drinks were just okay, and most of the better steaks were an upcharge on top of the Restaurant Week price, which felt off for a prix fixe. Dessert did land well. One last oddity for a restaurant this size, we left smelling like cooked food, which you don't expect from a place with real ventilation. Bottom line: the filet flight is genuinely good, but the wait, the weak apps and sides, the upcharges, and the lingering smell made this hard to recommend at the price.

CUSTOMER REVIEW - A LUXURIOUS & UNFORGETTABLE DINING EXPERIENCE Houston Restaurant Week has officially begun, and I chose Guard and Grace as my inaugural stop, a decision that unfolded into an evening of elegance, precision, and refined hospitality. From the very first moment, the experience felt curated, intentional, and worthy of the city's most celebrated culinary week. As I approached the building, the valet team greeted me with polished warmth. Their professionalism set the tone immediately. (Valet is $15 plus tip.) The entrance itself felt like stepping into a modern sanctuary, with sleek architecture, soft lighting, and a quiet hum of anticipation. Inside the lobby, Guard and Grace revealed itself on the left, framed by lush greenery and sophisticated lettering that radiated prestige. The design was a perfect blend of contemporary luxury and understated glamour, the kind of ambiance that makes you instinctively straighten your posture and inhale a little deeper. The hostess greeted me with a smile that felt genuinely welcoming, not rehearsed. She guided me through the restaurant, where the atmosphere was a symphony of dim lighting, polished textures, and the soft clinking of glassware. It felt like stepping into a world where every detail, every sound, every scent, every gesture was orchestrated with intention. Service: The Gold Standard of Hospitality The moment I sat down, I met JERRY N., who I can confidently say is the crown jewel of Guard and Grace's service team. His presence was magnetic, warm, knowledgeable, and effortlessly attentive. He didn't simply take orders; he curated an experience. Jerry spoke about the menu with the ease of someone who knows it intimately, offering recommendations tailored to our palate. His guidance felt like having a private dining concierge, someone who understands flavor, balance, and the art of hospitality. JERRY alone is enough reason to return. Restaurant Week Menu - A Culinary Showcase FIRST COURSE Anson Mills Cornbread Skillet - warm, golden, and aromatic, crowned with grilled shrimp salsa and macha agave chili butter that melted luxuriously into every crevice Caesar Salad - crisp romaine, a delicate parmesan crisp, vibrant cherry tomatoes, and housemade croutons with the perfect crunch Gulf Crab Corn Hush Puppies - tender, perfectly fried, paired with green goddess aioli and Old Bay remoulade The sauces were transcendent -- bright, herbaceous, and unforgettable. SECOND COURSE Surf & Turf (+$12) - a 4oz prime NY strip paired with 1/2 Alaskan black cod (The cod was flavorful, though I personally prefer it well‑done.) DESSERT Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies (4) - warm, soft, indulgent Blueberry Yuzu Tart - a stunning balance of citrus brightness and delicate sweetness Carrot Cake - grilled pineapple, carrot cremeaux, ginger ice cream, creating a luxurious harmony of spice and warmth Every dish felt like a celebration of craftsmanship, layered flavors, thoughtful textures, and impeccable presentation. Teamwork & Leadership: The Engine Behind the Excellence One of the most striking elements of the evening was the staff's precision. Their coordination was mesmerizing, a quiet ballet of movement and awareness: Tables refreshed before you even noticed a crumb. Drinks replenished with seamless timing. Courses delivered with effortless flow Staff communicate with subtle glances and gestures. This level of harmony only exists under exceptional leadership. TIM ROBINSON, the manager, moved through the restaurant with the grace of a conductor guiding a symphony. His presence was calm, confident, and deeply attentive. He checked on guests with genuine care, ensuring every detail aligned with the restaurant's high standards. Our interaction with him was brief because any concerns we had were resolved immediately. My steak arrived medium instead of medium‑well, and Jerry corrected it promptly and professionally. He also brought out the Crab Fried Rice, a shareable dish overflowing with generous, buttery lumps of crab meat, rich, decadent, and absolutely divine. Beverages - Crafted with Intention Tropical Tango - pineapple, lime, coconut, ginger beer; refreshing, bright, and tropical Spicy Margarita - flavorful with a bold kick; a slightly larger cocktail glass would elevate it further I was initially served Slay My Name, which wasn't my preference, but Jerry corrected it instantly with grace. Final Reflections Guard and Grace delivered an evening that transcended dining. It was an experience woven with luxury, warmth, and impeccable execution. Tim Robinson, your leadership is evident in every corner of the restaurant. Your professionalism, presence, and commitment to excellence elevate the entire establishment. Even though our interaction was brief, your character and standards shine through every detail. I left feeling impressed, satisfied, and genuinely excited to return. Guard and Grace have earned a permanent place on my list.

Delicious once again. Absolutely love this place for any special occasion. Some of the best service, food is Always good, and a ton of options on the menu. Super halal friendly.

Brought my daughter here while we visited Texas. I have been here a few times on company account and the food was great, service very attentive. Only complaint was the price! lol I remember if you come here during lunch, they used to give free cookies and it was amazingly yum. Dinner time, we have to pay $18 for 6 for a bite size cookies. Well, once in a lifetime and my daughter enjoyed the food and experience!

One of the best gumbos I have had at a restaurant! There was seafood or protein in every bite it was so delicious. This gumbo had crab, sausage, shrimp, crawfish 10/10. Elegant spot in downtown, great service and great variety of food. It does get very busy during lunch hour so reservations are needed. What I ordered: Daring Daisy cocktail Queso with steak Sweet corn ravioli Gumbo *must try* Choclate chip cookies

Guard and Grace Modern Steakhouse is a luxury dine in restaurant in the heart of downtown location. Very well decorated with clean, modern, great material comfortable aesthetic furniture. Highly recommend getting a reservation at any time to received great hospitality service from the very moment of entering to leaving the restaurant. While the parking situation can be tough with only two options being doing valet for only $15 or park on side of the streets after busy hours for free at your own risk. The server is really nice, attentive, well communicated, and quick with the transition of providing each food. The food came out clean and well presented. Highly recommend pairing their well known steaks with their side dishes.

I'll start by saying I was running late for dinner, so I was not able to get the photos that I wanted. I'm going back in a week so I'll post more photos. Trey was our server. He was excellent My friends and I had a private dining dinner and everything was amazing The mashed potato's are the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN IN ANY RESTAURANT!!!! I'll update in a few days with a better review.

Another fantastic time! Took my brother, his wife to celebrate his birthday! It was their first time there and they really enjoyed it! Food was great because I was really craving the mac & cheese! great service, ambiance and steaks weren't bad either!

Came here for the first time for an anniversary dinner. So pleasantly surprised by the exquisite food and attentive service. Such a luxurious experience; would be back !

I have been here a few times and I think it's a little overrated. The ambience and service is exceptional! The food is overpriced. We started off with queso - salty. The salad was shareable but the taste was okay. The redfish was flavorful. The espresso was okay. Parking is valet, garage or street parking.

We went to Guard and Grace on a Thursday, which was my actual birthday.... It was a first for all of my guests and the experience exceeded my expectations. Trey, our waiter, was phenomenal. Personable, attentive, and truly great at his job. We never had to wait for him or ask for anything. He was always present without hovering, which says a lot about his professionalism and awareness. The ambience was perfect...upscale yet relaxed. You can actually hear your guests and have real conversations without yelling like you're in a club or lounge trying to pass as a restaurant. Food was on point across the board. Those who had the red fish loved it. The brussel sprouts were really good. I ordered the bone-in ribeye and it did exactly what it was supposed to do... fully satisfied my steak craving. Portions were generous enough that the rest came back with me to the Airbnb. We flew in from Florida to celebrate and also visit our young adults/friends who live in HTX, and this dinner became one of the highlights of the trip. I already know I'll be checking out the Guard and Grace in Colorado this spring if it's anything like this experience. Excellent service, great food, beautiful atmosphere. A birthday well celebrated.

This one might be a little overrated for me. I had high hopes, but wasn't super impressed. The restaurant and ambiance is really nice. Wait staff was amazing. Our waiter had a great personality. Food: Crudo - ok Steak - was delicious Queso - salty Drinks - eh Rainbow roll - I could skip it Jalapeño roll - decent Crab fried rice - Butter cake - solid Asparagus - good. Normal steakhouse flavor

    Another bill!

If you're looking for an upscale ambiance this is the place. This was my first time here, and I liked the esthetics. Our party's arrival ran late, and they were still able to accommodate us. This was greatly appreciated. However I thought the music was a little too loud, because I could not hear my party across the table. We finally determined we were sitting right under a speaker. Prior to this a manager did ask if we were comfortable at our table, due to my mobility issues. If mobility impaired it's best to sit on the main level, especially if the restroom is needed. Otherwise, there are about 4-5 steps, to go through the kitchen. The kitchen is a huge process!!! I was impressed!Service was pretty good. They were knowledgeable, and got our orders correct. At times I felt our questions were answered a bit snippy, but it didn't persist. My party did feel a bit rushed by staff asking to pick up plates in the middle of our meal. This was a bit disruptive, because I would move plates to the edge if I want them removed. The food was really good. The cons for me is the 1% cutlery charge to help tip the kitchen staff, in addition to the 20% regular tip. They apparently do this to not raise menu prices. It's not a make or break thing, I've never seen it before nor was I made aware of it. It might be on the menu somewhere...idk. Additionally, valet parking is available for a fee. Most restaurants offer a birthday dessert, but this one did not. I would return to enjoy a few menu items like the queso, G & G Salad, and the oysters! These were really good. So for me, it really depends on what one wants to experience.

Ask the Community - Guard and Grace Modern Steakhouse

Do they sell wine by the bottle?

    Yes

    Is this place kid friendly?

Yes I see children all the time especially during Sunday brunch..

Is this place good for large groups (up to 12 adults)?

    What is the dress code?

Business casual is appropriate. No shorts. Formal attire is not out of place. I would however suggest another high steakhouse option in the city. There are many other options that are better overall and not exorbitantly priced.

Is this place good for an anniversary dinner for two?

Yes - this place is perfect! They have cute booths for 2 and the service here is impeccable. Let them know it's your anniversary and they'll be telling you congratulations over and over again.

Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. For the appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Fried Oysters & Brussels, and I got the redfish for my entrée. The Brussels sprouts were flash-fried perfectly, and I loved the sweetness of the chili honey glaze. The oysters had a nice crispy coating, but I found them to be a little bland. The redfish, though, was absolutely the star of the meal. I cleaned my plate. It was served with Hoppin' John and a lemon butter sauce. I had never heard of Hoppin' John before, but it's essentially a Southern rice-and-bean dish, and paired with that lemon butter, it was so flavorful. It complemented the fish perfectly.

And no, it's not a predominantly seafood restaurant {as implied in the name, the fishery} It's a Mexican restaurant We got a mango margarita with chips and a creamy green sauce to start. Entrees were fried pompano fish from the Gulf of Mexico via Florida served with steamed vegetables in a creamy sauce and entree 2) was a shrimp and corn tamale in this yummy creamy sauce Both dishes were fantastic.
