They are located in my office building, and I've heard great things about their original Denver location. Unfortunately, I've been consistently underwhelmed, especially considering the prices. Today, the bill was approximately $65 for two hamburgers, fries, an iced tea, and a Coke (and they even charge for Coke refills--my friend had two). Beyond the cost, they seem to treat ketchup like it's a luxury item. For two burgers and fries, they brought out a single small ramekin, and it always feels like you have to ask repeatedly for more. Another frustration is their attitude toward reservations. Every time I've visited, they've made a point of mentioning that I didn't have one. This time, I specifically made a reservation through OpenTable, only to later see it marked as canceled. I'm not sure why, but it certainly left a bad impression. Overall, the food is fine, but the combination of high prices, nickel-and-diming on basics, and the overall customer experience means this won't be one of my preferred lunch spots going forward. read more

If you're looking for an upscale ambiance this is the place. This was my first time here, and I liked the esthetics. Our party's arrival ran late, and they were still able to accommodate us. This was greatly appreciated. However I thought the music was a little too loud, because I could not hear my party across the table. We finally determined we were sitting right under a speaker. Prior to this a manager did ask if we were comfortable at our table, due to my mobility issues. If mobility impaired it's best to sit on the main level, especially if the restroom is needed. Otherwise, there are about 4-5 steps, to go through the kitchen. The kitchen is a huge process!!! I was impressed!Service was pretty good. They were knowledgeable, and got our orders correct. At times I felt our questions were answered a bit snippy, but it didn't persist. My party did feel a bit rushed by staff asking to pick up plates in the middle of our meal. This was a bit disruptive, because I would move plates to the edge if I want them removed. The food was really good. The cons for me is the 1% cutlery charge to help tip the kitchen staff, in addition to the 20% regular tip. They apparently do this to not raise menu prices. It's not a make or break thing, I've never seen it before nor was I made aware of it. It might be on the menu somewhere...idk. Additionally, valet parking is available for a fee. Most restaurants offer a birthday dessert, but this one did not. I would return to enjoy a few menu items like the queso, G & G Salad, and the oysters! These were really good. The night I had at Guard and Grace was truly unforgettable. I planned a proposal which was beautifully orchestrated by our awesome server JJ! Besides making my fiancé and family feel special with his impressive service, he doubled as a photographer and really helped with capturing our special evening. We went to Guard and Grace on a Thursday, which was my actual birthday.... It was a first for all of my guests and the experience exceeded my expectations. Trey, our waiter, was phenomenal. Personable, attentive, and truly great at his job. We never had to wait for him or ask for anything. He was always present without hovering, which says a lot about his professionalism and awareness. The ambience was perfect...upscale yet relaxed. You can actually hear your guests and have real conversations without yelling like you're in a club or lounge trying to pass as a restaurant. Food was on point across the board. Those who had the red fish loved it. The brussel sprouts were really good. I ordered the bone-in ribeye and it did exactly what it was supposed to do... fully satisfied my steak craving. Portions were generous enough that the rest came back with me to the Airbnb. We flew in from Florida to celebrate and also visit our young adults/friends who live in HTX, and this dinner became one of the highlights of the trip. The kind of hospitality Guard and Grace showed us for our TYP networking event was NOTHING short of incredible. The staff was ABSOLUTELY amazing. The food? Delicious. The mocktails? Exciting. OMG we had such a great night! They hosted us in their space upstairs and we completely filled up the entire area. Anyone knows that this area is not ideal for parking but I'm so thankful that I was able to find parking on the road and walk to the restaurant. They gave us such a great variety of appetizers that I didn't even know what to eat first. So, knowing me.. I got them all! LMBO. I did not taste anything that was not delicious. Easy 5 stars! I visited as part of a large group. Our room was spacious and nice. The staff were on top of it, even though our group had special requests with people swapping seats throughout our four course meal. I highly recommend Guard and Grace if you're looking for a venue for a private event. The food and drinks were top notch. The appetizers, salad, main course, and desserts were all phenomenal. My choice for the main course was the Roasted Salmon dish. The salmon, crispy potatoes, and roasted cabbage came together to create a truly amazing plate of food! The cookies and chocolate cake for dessert were standouts for me as well. A great way to finish the evening. Located downtown, the parking is tough. But if you're able to make it into the restaurant, it's totally worth it! Would love to come back sometime to experience it separate from a work function. read more

Food: We decided on this restaurant because of its HRW 2025 Menu. The food is good; however, it didn't wow me. We started with a Vietnamese salad. It was good and spicy, but not a show stopper. What really won me over with this menu is reading that they had crab fried rice, and it came with red fish! Yum!!! My dish was picture perfect, but what made it amazing was not the fried rice, it was the Soy Glaze I put on my fish. I requested it on the side and it was a hit. It comes with some other sort of butter, but I preferred the Soy Glaze. The third course was dessert and was also a bit of a let down. Ordered ths Sticky Toffee Pudding cake. The caramel sauce and ice cream was a bit and was needed because although the flavor of the cake was great, it was terribly dry. Not a 10/10 would recommend item. Service: Service was great. They even offer black cloth napkins, which I usually request. The only damper on service is that I clearly missed all the signs saying that there would be a SURPRISE charge on my bill... Made the mistake of coming here for a work lunch because now all I want is to eat here every day. It's such a beautiful restaurant and even though there was a line, we were seated promptly (even before our reservation)! The BuBu Bowl is an absolute life changer. And then, after all that, they bring you warm chocolate chip cookies with your check! Like come on. Our waiter, Travon, was amazing and even made my co-worker a sweet tea to go even though it wasn't on the menu. She's from Louisiana and said it was the best sweet tea she's ever had. We had a GREAT experience at Guard and Grace this weekend for early dinner (reservation made through Open Table). Walking distance from Hobby Center for Performing Arts so we went before a show later that evening. Initial comments: Guard and Grace has a slight dress code in favor of fancy which made the atmosphere feel "proper." All the staff seemed excellently trained - very attentive and nice. Our server was Jerry and I cannot praise him enough - very knowledgeable about the restaurant and personable. G&G also charges a "culinary fee" on top of sales tax, etc - however - the food is great and they have several "complimentary" items for their bread and butter, chef's welcome app (for us was watermelon with vinegerete) and delicious warm chocolate cookies after the meal - so seemed acceptable. For appetizer we had the Beer Tartare which was a deconstructed version with mushroom: it was one of my favorite tartare I've had in memory. For mains I had an 8oz New York strip which was good but wish I'd upgraded to a better cut, and the crispy Brussel sprouts which are definitely "shared sides" style. Upon entering, Guard and Grace shows off its modern design aesthetics with sweeping ceilings, simple but elegant furniture selection, and cool tones (both in terms of colors and upbeat music!). We lucked out and were seated at a curved booth table in the back with views towards the kitchen and bar. It was definitely more private and quiet than the smaller tables we walked by. Our waiter Craig was jovial, and the staff were all very friendly. Our water cups were also constantly refilled (thank you!). The food: ** complimentary warm bread with horseradish butter (4/5)-- the bread was dripping in oil/butter but I couldn't really taste it. However the combination of bread with the butter was addicting; the horseradish flavor wasn't overly strong. Yum! ** torched tuna roll (4/5)-- with the jalapeño slices, a little too spicy for us. But without the jalapeño, there was a nice slightly spicy (like sriracha) flavor. Overall satisfying and tasty; I didn't notice anything bad or good about the rice itself. ** oak fired octopus (4/5)-- nicely grilled with a good amount of octopus. Some pieces were chewier than others but thankfully none were rubbery. The celery was an interesting addition, but the octopus was tasty just by itself. ** Wagyu hanger steak (3.5/5)-- cooked to beautiful color with a nice red-pink interior, but the texture was a little tough for Wagyu. A little dubious of the sourcing... we're not convinced it was truly Wagyu. Still going to enjoy it as leftover steak though! ** charcoal roasted pork chop (4/5)-- not dry at all, super tasty cashew butter sauce (? I thought it was some potato puree) and the masa hushpuppies were fluffy and sweet. There was a quite a bit of fat to remove so didn't have much lean meat in that pork chop though! ** sweet corn ravioli (4/5)-- the actual pasta wasn't al dente, but the sweet corn flavor paired with the fried cornflake pieces was scrumptious. ** white cheddar Mac n cheese (3.5/5)-- nice and gooey, extra creamy and mild. The cavatappi pasta shape was fun but the pasta was quite overcooked. The texture was better cooled down. Would also prefer them not to stir in the crispy garlic (?) breadcrumbs before serving! ** foraged mushrooms (3/5)-- super buttery, which I'm not a fan of. But the texture was nice, I think others might like this one for the butteriness. ** sticky toffee cake (4.5/5)-- the cake had a brownie texture but the overall flavor of caramelized sugar. The ice cream also didn't melt really quickly, yay! The coulis was described as raspberry, but pretty sure it was a blackberry on the plate, interesting but good combo. Would get this again! Areas for improvement: - We were asked if we have any dietary restrictions when we ordered. Our waiter noted down cilantro (MT's worst enemy!), and the sushi came with leaves of cilantro on every piece (luckily easily picked off). We didn't say anything and the waiter didn't either, but one wonders why we were even asked. - We noticed the service charge that was added to our bill without explanation. Seems like lot of Yelpers here have been unpleasantly surprised with it. We didn't ask about it, but I feel like it would benefit the restaurant to notify diners about it when the check comes out. - We got our bill before our dessert came out. The dessert wasn't complimentary, so the timing was a little awkward. Guessing they needed our table soon. - When they offered to pack our leftovers to take home, the bag arrived without half of the food. We had to inquire about the missing food (but it was quickly recovered, hooray). - Parking is valet for $16 unless you find street paring elsewhere. I hate paying for valet in Houston and this alone probably will prevent me from returning. Overall, the food was nice to try, and we really enjoyed the ambiance (even the restrooms were big and pretty!). Nothing blew our socks off and there were a few too many slip-ups for the price, so I'm probably not returning unless a friend wants to go. But it's a fun place to check out at least once, especially for date night~ :) read more

I was awestruck when we pulled up. This gorgeous restaurant is next to a lobby with a huge beautiful Christmas tree! We arrived about 15 minutes early but were immediately seated regardless. We had a birds eye view of the kitchen, which was pretty cool! Our server, Michael, was extraordinary. He went above and beyond in service and personality. We enjoyed cocktails and wine from the bar. Then we sampled the won tons and octopus for appetizers. Wow! So delicious! Everyone in our party ordered steaks and for the table, we ordered the mac and cheese, chipotle lime potatoes, and brussel sprouts. Everything was cooked to perfection! I enjoyed a delicious meal here before the Houston ballet. We started with the oak fried octopus, beautifully cooked and cut, paired with white bean and celery salad, chorizo, and vinaigrette. The braised wagyu beef wontons were also a delight, with 5 wontons soaked in a truffle soy vinaigrette. My main entree , the roasted salmon, also did not disappoint. I liked that they asked how I wanted the fish cooked, and the presentation was gorgeous. Complete with charred cabbage, uniquely cubed crispy potatoes (think fancy hashbrown), and smoked tomato butter, this was a truly tasty, unique twist on salmon that I hadn't tried before. I also appreciated that they offered plenty of reasonably priced mocktails. Service was great, but note that some tables for 6 are booth seating, which made for slightly awkward passing down of food. Very nice and helpful with any requests. My fiancé and I had to go to the bathroom at one point and they walked us through their very cool open kitchen. The entire cooking staff greeted us which was fun. The decor here is super modern and it's nice to just look around and stare at the unique art. Their bathrooms are very swanky with lots of free extras for customers that you won't find at most places. Take advantage of it! Now the star of the show was the food. It is recommended you and your group eat family style. Order all the things and share! So many options for starters and entrees but you can't go wrong. They have a HUGE wine menu too. But beer and cocktails if that's more your speed. As it was my friend's birthday, they brought out the best desert platter I've ever seen or ate. Everything on it was so good. He has a great sense of humor and he's very attentive, and helpful with his knowledge of the menu items. The decor is mid century modern, with crazy high ceilings, giant windows, and it feels like you are eating in a modern art gallery. Every dish was "high class steakhouse", with the right amount of "smoke and char" on everything. And the ambiance was very special. Our night was Sergio's last night with training wheels. Jose really didn't have to do much because Sergio totally has this!! He is a really great server. Table for two was very tiny. Hard to accommodate a three course meal. We got crab legs which did not taste right...I couldn't tell if it was a lack of freshness, how they were grilled or something else. It was over $200 just for one pound of crab and I've had better crab elsewhere in Houston. The crabs were meaty, though. The brussel sprouts were ok and I was hoping for better taste. We split the red fish with rice. The fish was tasty and perfectly cooked. The rice was crunchy as if it was made with stale rice. I dislike crunchy rice. I came to guard and grace to attend a wedding reception recently. From the time we got inside of the second floor reception room, there were drinks flowing, and the service was great. Melanie was our server, and I would not be able to tell that this was her first time doing a party if she hadn't told me because she was absolutely fantastic. She kept on top of any requests, like to bring out children's meals before the adult meals come out, during appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, my favorite was the ahi tuna. It was delicious pieces of tuna on top of crispy rice. I could have had a whole tray of just those alone. The crab cakes were made with real crab, the beef tips when perfectly done and the Korean fried chicken had a great sauce to it. For dinner, I enjoyed the steak medium well, it was cooked perfectly, as well as the smashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese pasta dish. The lemonade drink was good as well. It reminded me of Brazilian lemonade like at Brazilian steakhouse. The customer service was fantastic, as they cleaned the table well and were quick and efficient. Overall, I would recommend Guard and Grace for a finer dining date night or if you wanna be out in the town in the downtown of Houston. read more

Celebrated a friend's birthday dinner last night. We valeted which went well. It costs 15 dollars but easier than parking downtown in the area. The walk to the table felt like a sprint upstairs. The hostess seemed to be speed walking up the stairs and to the table. The overall staff was polite. Our waters stayed full. Wish our other drinks had been full a bit more often. We started with the Italian burrata and east coast oysters. Both good. The bread that came with it was great. The dinner rolls provided were good. However the butter was surprising considering it tasted like wasabi. I wasn't expecting that nor was I a fan. The scallops were tasty. The rainbow trout roe was a bit too much for my liking. I left most of it. The half chicken was tasty but of course awkward to eat off of the bone. As far as sides, the gnocchi were my favorite with the perfect crisp. Overall the feel was tastefully done. There was plenty of seating which some would be awkward since it seemed like after thought tables for large parties. I'd like to go back maybe for a cocktail. I am curious about what else there is to try. read more

Our first time here celebrating our 10 year anniversary and the service was top notch! As soon as went entered they congratulated us on our anniversary. Every staff that encountered us congratulated us. It was disclose on my reservation but did not expect the wonderful service. The food was amazing and so delicious. Steak cooked to perfection and SO tender moist. We will definitely come back again. read more

Came to try this restaurant for Houston restaurant week and overall, I'm glad that I did. Trevino was our server, and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. Had the tequila lemon drop....refreshing with a good kick. Loved the spin on the lemon drop. Trevino did mention to us that the HRW redfish had a much different flavor than the standard menu platter. I should've trusted him. It was a bit bland but cooked beautifully, it also came with crab fried rice. We tried some features the tuna roll and crab toast...AMAZING!!! The aesthetic is lovely and I'll be back to give that real redfish a try! read more

After getting hitched at the courthouse, my new wife and our family and friends celebrated at Guard and Grace. It'd been a long time since I dined downtown, which has some hidden gems of great places to eat. G&G is one of them. With its modern decor and ample natural lighting, it has a vibe perfect for daytime or nighttime dining. The food was delicious. We ordered pretty much every dip on the appetizer menu, including the queso, spinach and artichoke, and salmon dips--all of them were fantastic, with the queso being our favorite. We also had the octopus, which had a delicious spicy kick to it. Everyone loved their entrees. My dad said his burger was the best he had ever had in a restaurant, and my duck melt was so rich and savory. All of the servings were very large, making for a hearty meal that was worth it's upscale price. The only dish I'd pass on is the gnocchi, which was too lightly sauced and bland, making for an odd choice for an a la carte side considering it didn't come with any protein. Our server Corey was so nice and funny. Once he heard we were celebrating our wedding, he helped us celebrate with champagne and delicious sweets. The triple chocolate cookies and sticky toffee cake were both amazing. We will definitely return to Guard and Grace for our anniversary, if not before. read more
