OMG these empanadas are so good! I was able to try the cheeseburger and the spinach and mushroom. Both were delicious but I probably only needed one to be honest. I was so full afterwards. Anyway, if you like empanadas, give these a try! They may not be "typical" but they are worth trying! The only reason I didn't rate mmmpanadas five stars is because they were out of many of the empanadas I wanted to try. Solid 3 stars because these empanadas are really just "A-OK". I tried these empanadas at ACL but this time I tried it outside of the Barton Springs Pool. The empanadas we ordered were: Argentinian and the Ham n Cheese. I've had some pretty amazing empanadas in my life so trying these amateur ones from a food truck in Austin were a bit of a disappointment. The only reason why we ordered these was that it was outside of the Barton Springs Pool and we hadn't had breakfast so we were desperate. Would I go back to order these empanadas? California natives trying the mmmpanadas UT campus food truck location! We tried both the chicken chile verde and the soy chorizo/Brie. The warm, flaky crust was perfect on both and the empanadas were filling! The chicken empanada was our favorite, especially because it was a little spicy but not overpoweringly so. Mmmmmm. Not big fans of the soyrizo they used, but we masked the flavor with their delicious chipotle mayo sauce. As chorizo/soy chorizo lovers, the three of us agreed it could be better with a different type of soy chorizo. We'd be willing to come back to try new flavors and their salsa! My gosh, these are so filling!! It's like eating an overstuffed pot pie without the sauce. I had the Argentinian and the Green Chile Chicken. Both were excellent! The Argentinian is filled with delicious ground beef, olives, and some diced boiled eggs. If you don't like olives, avoid this like the plague. The olives are quite strong (thankfully I like them). The egg is nice to counter the heavy flavor of the beef and olives. The crust on all their empanadas are crispy and what you would expect from an excellent empanada. The green chile chicken was quite delicious. The shredded chicken inside was decently cooked but maybe a tad bit on the dry side. The chiles weren't spicy and just added some nice flavor to the empanada. All in all, a good place to grab a cheap quick bite to eat. read more

I've tried nearly all of mmmpanadas empanadas at this point and I've never been disappointed with any of mmmpanadas empanadas. Are mmmpanadas empanadas the best empanadas ever? I have no idea. The spicy sauce complimented the flavours and put a pep in the pastry that sticks in my mind and mouth. The Argentinian was complex and had a great textural mix. I still have my desert empanada in the fridge, so filling were the three I scoffed. Truth be told, you could serve fried bricks wrapped in tires at the Browning Hangar, and by virtue of its location, I'd go there and eat it and love it. Until I saw Henry's ROTD, I totally forgot about Mmmpanadas! Some friends and I were at the Pachanga Festival this year and Mmmpandas were there at the festival food court. After perusing the selection, I decided on a green chili and chicken empanada. Before I knew it, it was gone. Totally delicious. Plus they heat them up just enough. Not so much that you can't eat your tasty pocket of foodie goodness for, like, hours! I hate that. Also, the filling was very well balanced - the chili to chicken ratio was excellent. Dissapointing! Got them delivered for a seminar and I got to try the soy chorizo with brie and the Chile chicken. Other than the crust, which was great, everything else fell flat. The spy chorizo and brie are a weird combination imo. The brie chunks weren't melted and some still had the rind which lefr a weird flavor. The chorizo was heavily spiced but they weren't balanced and it came off flavorless. The chicken chile verde was the worst, I literally scraped off the filling and ate the crust. Hip Hip Hooray....I'm FINALLY going to get to eat a god damn empanada!! My weird excitement has built over the last month or so because I would go on days that it wasn't there or to late in the day to catch it (check out their website for their hours before you make the trek down). I might need to attend a self help group, because I have totally been stalking the mmmmpanada truck for the past month. I tried the lunch special... which is 2 empanadas and a drink for $7.50... that is decent deal but not great. I went with one savory and one sweet empanada. My savory choice was the chicken with green chilies..... The empanada was full of tasty chicken, slightly spicy (I'm a wimp with spicy food so in reality it might be more normal than spicy). The crust was good, not great.... I think the crispiness of the crust was lost when it was reheated. I got two of the sauces... one was salsa and the other was a chipotle mayo. They were both good toppings that added a nice flavor. The sweet empanada was peach. It was okay. The peaches were sweet and slightly tart and a couple of sprinkles of cinnamon on the outside. A scoop of vanilla ice cream would have done wonders for this little guy. I love peaches but I don't think I would get this again. I expected nothing less than perfection from another Austin food trailer. I'll get straight to the point. What I loved so much from the other trailers in Austin that wow-ed my tastebud is that the food was absolutely freshly-cooked. I ordered the Argentinean, filled with ground beef, a hard-boiled egg, and olives. The empanadas were popping out like crazy, with people being served 3-5 minutes after their order. Waiting with a couple friends, I joked that these were just fresher "Hot Pockets" and I think the stand proved me right. I watched as they put already cooked empanadas into a small oven (warmer). It was kinda sad, when I bit into my food it was luke-warm at best and did have a crispyness to it however it was chewy because the empanadas weren't fried to order. Honestly, I would rather wait another 5 minutes and get my food to order, than have to pay $4 to watch a guy "reheat" an already cooked empanada, sorry. On a strictly taste level, it had all the right ingredients, it just didn't pop in my mouth like I expected it too. I went with my Mexican friend here, and he said they definitely compared to the ones in Mexico, which is nice to hear. (He got the Argentinian one, which he said is the right way to go!) The empanadas are authentic, except for the size, which are bigger than traditional ones, but hey, it's Texas, and everything is big here. So true story, when I first came here with a friend, I said, "I don't want to go here unless they are selling real panda meat." He stared at me in disbelief and said, "it says panadas, not pandas." What the difference an A makes. Sadly I can't give this place an A, except for effort. My main gripes is lack of photos and an example of what to expect. Mmmmmm is right! Today I discovered some of the best empanadas I've ever had!!! A coworker and I walked over to mmmpanadas for lunch to check out the trailer on 5th and Brazos. I ordered two tasty, flaky bundles of goodness- a chopped beef empanada and a black bean empanada. YUM! The black bean was nice and spicy and the chopped beer had a nice combo of meat and sauce. Unfortunately they had run out of the asparagus prosciutto and the spinach mushroom (darn you Keri for ordering the last ones =), but I was told by my coworker that they were VERY tasty. So a few months ago, I decided to take some empanadas to a tapas party. Whole Foods and Central Market sell pretty much everything you can imagine, but they do not sell empanadas. While I found this quite curious, I decided to continue my search and I learned from my friends at Wheatsville that a local company called mmmpanadas was filling the void. I rushed over to Wheatsville and bought up a bunch of black bean and green chili chicken. The empanadas were definitely a party favorite ... as for me though, I'm a little late to the party. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I finally clued in and visited the mmmpanadas truck at Mueller. This place is a rolling empanada palace with a vast selection that far surpasses what is available in the prepared foods case at the grocery store. In addition to my old stand-by - the spicy black bean - I expanded my mmmpanada horizons by checking out the Argentian (ground beef and egg) and a mango and ginger. I still stand by the spicy black bean as my old faithful, but I also liked mango ginger. I wanted the Argentinian to have a little more kick in the form of olives and raisins, but I would definitely eat it again as is. At just over $3, these hot little honeys are an affordable indulgence available in an array of interesting flavors. While walking aimlessly around downtown Austin during SXSW my friend suggested we hit up Mmmpanadas. In previous years I always found it fun just to say the name over and over again mmmpanadas, mmmpanadas -- ok you get the deal but never had the opportunity to actually try one. My fortune this year would allow me to try the place out twice! The first time I went they were out of the Green Chile Chicken which I really wanted to try but no worries instead I ordered the Spinach and Feta. Somehow I must've confused the young lad who was taking my order cause he asked me if I had ordered 2 and I said no just one, and then I handed over my card and when I got the receipt realized it said $8 instead of $4. Silly boy. So I politely told him of his mistake but decided that in exchange I would just get another empanada. So then I decided on a Ham & Cheese. The empanadas were nice and flaky and mm mm buttery. The spinach and feta one was a delight, the ham and cheese however not so much. There was definitely more ham than cheese and felt a bit dry. The lemon aioli however to dip it in was heavenly. I just wish I could've had more and in a wider cup. But for $8 overall I felt pretty satisfied My second encounter was thanks to IFC, they had an Mmmpanadas truck parked in front of the IFC House next to the The Driskill and were giving away empanadas to the first 500 people. Apparently my friends and I were among those first 500. They had a limited selection of the empanadas they were giving away and had sold out of about half of them. So in the end I settled for a Soy Chorizo w/Brie and a Ginger Mango. The Soy Chorizo was absolutely brilliant. Spicy and hearty I would've never known I wasn't eating meat. It came with salsa dipping sauce which also was very good. I had been afraid that it might've been very generic but it was rather refreshing. The Ginger Mango was delightful. I'm not a fan of ginger AT ALL but it was subtle and didn't make me want to yack. And of course they were FREE so who am I to complain really about any of that? Mmmpanadas has made me want to search around my hometown see if we have anything like it. This trailer is my new favorite food out of a trailer! They offer several vegetable options. I am not a Vegetarian but the veggie options sounded great. I went with the 2 Mmmpanadas and a drink for 7.50. I ordered the Asparagus Prosciutto with Blue cheese and the Spinach and Mushroom w/ Pine Nuts and Goat Cheese mmmpanadas with an orange juice as drink choice. Granted they are not vegetarian but veggie based.... All I have to say is YUMMY... And the owner told me they will be serving the savory empanadas at the Nomad Bar... These guys were at the Food & Wine Festival where the food truck selection was small (but good!) and we had already tried the Peached Tortilla so I gave this a try, expecting lots of pastry, little flavor. I was very pleasantly surprised when I first bit into the Green Chile Chicken empanada- holy flavor! Very moist, great flavor. The BBQ Chopped Beef was great too. There's definitely a lot craft here. I have a love hate relationship with this place and would ideally give it 2.5 stars. I absolutely love their spinach empanada and enjoy the BBQ beef, but those are the only two I like at all. The Chorizo and brie caused me to gag and I had to spit it into my napkin. This could just be personal taste however, so I don't totally count it against them. However, what I do count against them is that 85% of the time that I manage to make it within their short hours they are out of a LARGE amount of product. There were a few times when they were very busy, or it was closer to closing so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept trying. The last time I tried it was about 12:30pm (right in the middle of lunch) on a weekday, there weren't busy at all, yet still they were out of half of their pies including the only two I like. I live really close and want to be able to frequent this place, but more times than not I take the enjoyable 15 minute walk there and then just end up walking back disappointed, with a grumbling stomach. read more

The guys who were working were super nice, and their cart smells like heaven. It's also super clean. We tries the vegan option - soy chorizo and brie. It came piping hot, and the chorizo product was pretty good - salty, spicy, and substantial. We had to search pretty hard to find the brie, and then when we thought we saw it, we decided that there was not enough to affect the flavor. I want to try it again because the menu was so compelling! Really neat choices. Too bad Fliphappy was closed. --It was supposed to be stop #6. Mmm is right! Mmmpanadas trailer was at the Austin marathon this year, and may I just say, Amen. It was absolutely glorious for them to show their support and give me a reason to run 13.1 miles back to where they were parked. We got one of everything. They were out of the sweet one (cinnamon) so I guess that's pretty popular. Will have to try next time. My favorites were hands down the Argentinean (funny cuz that describes my bf) and the spinach and mushroom (CLOSE SECOND). The former was ground beef and scrambled egg. We also tried a breakfast empanada with eggs and bacon, and a chile chicken empanada. Personally, I would skip the chicken next time--the inner contents just weren't as juicy and flavorful as the other three. They gave us three different sauces but the lemon garlic was my favorite (and great on the spinach mushroom empanada). The empanadas are $4 each which is even more than they cost at Buenos Aires Cafe. But, they are larger in size. We split each one among three people. I'd probably eat one with a salad if I were being healthy, two if I just wanted to fuel up. The guy in the truck was nice too. Friendly, accommodating, and quick to give us our bag of food. My husband and I ventured out to September's Trailer Food Tuesday at the Palmer and were very excited to try mmmpanadas. What a disappointment. We ordered the green chile chicken empanada and the peach cobbler empanada. Although containing plenty of filling, the chicken was way too dry and the pastry was doughy and bland. Yuk. Even worse, the peach empanada included all the flavor from the tin can the peaches probably came from. No cinnamon, no sweetness, just a rubber after-taste.
