Had the goat cheese and spinach empanada with chimichurri. It was the perfect snack at the Mueller Farmer's Market. Staff was super nice as well!

Quick service and delish!! Right in the middle of Rainey street. It is tucked in the middle of a few food trucks.

    Chana masala empanada

Nice food truck on Rainey for some late night snacks and hot empanadas with different flavors. The chana masala empanada was hot and flavorful although a little intense on the masala. A bit surprising that a mid-large empanada was served per order, rather than a couple of bite sized ones that could be shared. 3.5 stars Could have been 4 stars but a single serving and ++masala made me round it down.

Located in the food truck park on Rainey, Yapa has some great empanadas for a late night snack. Very quick service and the empanadas are piping hot. The Conquistadora was super interesting. I was skeptical, (meat... hard boiled egg?... olives... raisins!?). Is this the start of a bad white people potato salad!? Nahhh, it was pretty good. The accompanying salsa was also great. Nice heat. The Peruvian was a little disappointing, kinda dry and I didn't really taste the aji Amarillo.

Marrakesh Express empanada, 100% vegan and da bomb!

Empanadas are extremely underrated as a handheld food. Should be more popular in food culture. But it has to be done right. This food truck definitely does it right. We found them at The Picnic area in Barton Springs. Due to my 30-day cleanse, I'm restricted to vegetarian options. Fortunately this truck had those along with vegan options for empanadas. Never one to not try new things, I went with the Marrakesh Express empanada (Eggplants, green olives, tomatoes, harissa and North African spices - Ras el hanout & Zaatar). Absolutely delicious and filling; the African spices take it over the top; plus the ingredients balanced out splendidly. My friend got the cubana empanada and another one that had brisket. He couldn't stop licking his fingers since they were awesome. Both of those are staples on their menu. I've been told the menu might change so you never know what they'll serve. But it's guaranteed to be all good either way. Do yourselves a favor and check this truck out!

I have never seen an empanada food truck before but I love Austin's food scene and that there are no limitations so anything can be brought to you in truck form. I like that there's specific options for vegetarian and vegan. I got the Marrakech empanada, very happily surprised with the eggplant option. The filling was good although I wish it had more flavor. The sauce it came with didn't add quite the punch I was looking for. The dough itself was pretty bready. I decent portion for only $7.

    Smoked Bacon, Egg & Cheese

A very hearty treat at the farmers with thick tasty dough and meaty fillings. Most empanadas were really good, though some are hit-or-miss. They're all priced at $6, which is odd because the brisket one is a true bargain while the egg one feels a bit overpriced. Come y Calla: This is the type of local fusion I love to see. A traditional empanada filled with Texas brisket and BBQ sauce. And it is really good brisket, like nicely smoked burnt ends shredded similar to a chopped beef sandwich. Better than some brisket I've had from lesser BBQ chains actually. Conquistadora: This is like an everything empanada. Lots of diced beef that tastes much better than grocery store ground beef. Hard boiled egg roughly chopped. Tons of spices and some raisins. None of the sauces are needed because this has much flavor. Peruvian Style Chicken: Lots of shredded chicken and a little bit of ají de gallina sauce. Tasty, but more subtle than the beef empanadas I tried. I feel like maybe they could have cut back on the chicken a little and added more creamy yellow sauce so it gets a gooey texture. Smoked Bacon, Egg & Cheese: This was the only empanada I didn't care for. The filling was kinda in one big clump like a frittata or something. I would have preferred if the eggs were scrambled (like the size of ground beef) and the rest was mixed in.

    Conquistadora and Al Pastor
    Casey C.

The Al Pastor was my favorite. I had these empanadas twice while I was in Austin. The group loved them so we had to go back after we got them the first time. They're so moist and they have meat and veggie options to cater to various diets. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in Austin again.

The strawberry filling was surprisingly good!! The strawberry jam was super fresh with strawberry fruits and seeds! Not overly sweetened as well so you can really taste the flavor of the fruit itself. At the edge inside the bread, there's a rich layer of cheese, I'm not familiar with the type but it def match well with the fruity taste and it's super satisfying! I tried this place at SFC market at downtown area!

    La borracha and strawberry
    Danae B.

Yum! The la borracha was sooo good. It had the tender savory flavor sort of like a beef stew, but the chimichurri it was served with gave it the perfect balance of acid and tartness. Really enjoyed it!! Girl working the truck was super nice also!

My first empanada *tears* We were roaming around the San Antonio Farmer's Market and saw this place. With a lot of food allergies, my boyfriend asked if I ever tried an empanada before. I said no because most of them have dairy. We asked the guy at this booth and surprisingly they had a few dairy-free options! And by all means, no way was I going to settle for a veggie empanada! We got the Al Pastor & Boca de Fuego - Spicy Smoked Brisket (because why not, we were in Texas!). My first bite and I was in looooove. My boyfriend said these were not "real empanadas" because the dough part was not "flakey" enough, but I didn't care - they both tasted soooo good!!

Vegetarian - spinach and goat cheese
    Pallavi S.

Vegetarian option and the chimcurri sauce was absolutely delicious. The filling is spinach with goat cheese and the sauce is the perfect tangy combo. You won't be disappointed. 4/5 because it is a little $$ (6 for 1) and it was a tad bit lukewarm and I like mine hot. Would still purchase again in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend trying their "conquistador" as it's the traditional empanada from Chile.

The interior was cozy and stylish, a nice mix between a restaurant and cafe in the absolute best way possible. The staff were super friendly, they took the time to chat and gave me some great recommendations. I went with the spicy brisket and park, both were phenomenal. The flavor was super rich and savory with just enough spice to have a kick without being overpowering. The dough was thin, flakey, and golden. It was perfect! I grew up only eating Puerto Rican empanadas so I wasn't sure what to expect but this place blew me away. Amazing food, great vibes and kind people. An absolute 5/5 that I'll definitely be back to.

Little Patagonia has their own parking lot (which is rare downtown), plus a nice outdoor patio. The food was great, service was quick and was an easy process considering it was a packed event. Highly recommend the brisket empanadas, so flavorful and delicious! The chicken ones were packed with flavor too. My boyfriend had the bacon, egg, and cheese empanada and said it was tasty, though he wished there was a bit more bacon. Overall, a cool spot to bring someone who's visiting Austin or if you just want to try something different. Will definitely be back to try out more foods and the wines!
