We were in the Olney area and decided to pick up dinner at Moby Dick House of Kabob. We've been to a number of Moby Dick's in the area and this one was more spacious than most. There were a number of tables and seats and there were windows on two sides of the restaurant. We ordered chicken kabobs with rice and two containers of shiraz salad. Shiraz salad is a cucumber and tomato salad that I like with chicken and fish. As we were waiting for our order I noticed on a placard they have barley soup. Next time we go to Moby Dicks I will definitely order the soup as I am always wanting to try new soups. Our order was ready as promised. Everything was packed nicely and, as always, we enjoyed our carry out dinner. The restaurant is in a shopping area near the Olney Giant. The parking lot there is always a little crazy but Moby Dick is off to the side and there is always plenty of parking. read more

I switched up my order from Moby Dick this time & got a kabob with extra tzatziki sauce. It was just okay - seasoned fine, it was prepared like a wrap, had minimal tzatziki sauce, the extra was in a container, didn't really taste like a kabob does. I will not get this again, will continue to come to one of the locations & go back to ordering what I normally get. The staff (don't remember her name) was really nice & pleasant. I ordered the kabob joojeh (chunks of marinated chicken breast) for pickup. The portion was huge. Normally I get 5 pieces but they gave me 10 plus a huge pita, two spicy green sauces, and one yogurt sauce. The food was incredibly fresh, hot, delicious, and looked amazing. The service was fast and friendly. The interior was clean, well maintained, and welcoming with interesting art on the wall. I will definitely order food from here again. read more

With quite a few kabob places in the area, don't think I'll be visiting this location again any time soon to get my kubideh fix. Food took pretty long after ordering, and it was just okay. Service was standard, with a work having attitude after I mentioned she never called out my number (and other people's orders) as the bags were just sitting there - even after I went up a couple times asking about my order. Kubideh lacked seasoning and the rice was on the oily side. Even my son who usually devours his meal at similar restaurants left 3/4 of his entree untouched. read more

We were pretty underwhelmed with the food we had for takeout. The falafel sandwich had good bread, but the rest was just sad. The falafel was dry with no crust (looked oven baked, probably not today) and little flavor, which was not helped by including lots of iceberg lettuce and a little underripe tomato. The spicy chicken kebabs were ok but not great, and the rice was not really worth eating. I think the marketing group is better at writing menu descriptions than the food team is at making the meal. The staff is quite nice (though they forgot to pack the hummus side). It may be this branch but I'll play it safe and give the whole chain a miss in the future. There's much better kebab houses out there, and this chain makes me appreciate them even more. read more

Well I stand by last year's review. Ate at the restaurant last night. The food quality has still gotten bad, and now the prices are higher with lower quantity of rice and meat. The kabob pieces are smaller, and still overcooked and rubbery. I'm hoping there will be better alternatives in Olney soon. read more

Waited for over thirty minutes to get a couple of wraps. Soda machine was empty but the guy at the counter offered a single can as recompense.... after paying $2.79 for a fountain cup (why didn't he tell me the machine wasn't working before selling me a cup wtf?) I've never had Moby Dick and just recently ordered online for the first time. Upon arriving, the staff member told us 5-7 more minutes for cooking....ended up being another 20 minutes and we only got our food because another staff member noticed we had been waiting for awhile. I will say the food was hot and fresh when we did get it! In general the food is decent, but not something I would personally seek out. It's very basic - nothing special. I got the chicken kabob with rice and salad and my husband got the gyro. The dolmeh was my favorite part of the meal. read more

I came here once around 9:45 PM and was greeted by a welcoming manager who even offered me dressing that I have not tried before (jalapeño dressing is awesome). I wanted to come here again so I arrived at 9:30 PM expecting another great welcoming but was greeted by a different manager whose responses seemed like from a Tim burton character. He didn't return a "hello" when I walked in. He waited until I told him what I wanted to order and then he responded by saying, "sorry we don't have rice. Sir we are closing soon". I then asked him what time they close, and he said, "before 10:00 pm" and that they finish cooking at 9:45. I looked at the clock and let him know it was before 9:45. So my question is, why are they still open if they are not cooking and not willing to serve guests. I get it's close to closing, but I think he could have gone about it differently...maybe I feel entitled? Or maybe I am just used to great customer service...I don't know. I had ordered 12 beef skewers for a party at my house. When I started serving the skewers (kubiddeh kebob) to my guests, I had several complaints of the beef being raw and bland. I tried the meat myself and it was hard and severely undercooked. The meat was BLAND. No seasoning no salt, nothing. I called the store n spoke to the manager and told her abt the beef, she apologized and said I will get the refund. I went to the store with five leftover skewers to show the staff so I can get my refund as I was told over the phone. I was disappointed as they only refunded me for the 5 skewers! This is not acceptable to give the customer a poor experience and still charge them money for that service. Will not be returning after being a long term customer. read more

Was shopping in the area and decided to stop here to eat. Similar to other reviews here the service isn't the greatest. The people behind the counter weren't rude or anything just.....slow. As if they didn't totally understand what they should be doing. When I was standing in line the guy at the register looked right at me and instead of taking my order turned around and started doing other things. Another young lady walked in and stood to the side of me. When he turned around I could tell he was going to help her first but the look I gave him suggested that would not be wise. I gave him my order and he entered the wrong thing, which luckily I caught. You do wait a little for the food to come up but it is fresh and hot when you get it. The food was really good. This restaurant is not equipped or prepared to be offering curbside pick up. Placed an order online, was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. Arrived 5 minutes early for pick up. Took an additional three calls from the designated pick up spots outside the restaurant to have food brought out over 25 minutes past pick up time. Food is barely room temp, so obviously had been sitting for some time. Manager was unwilling to offer any discount for inconvenience or room temp food unless I cancelled ordered and left food behind, not an option as I had small children to feed. We watched from the car as patrons walked into the establishment, ordered, waited for their order and then picked up all in less time than it took for us to receive our room temp dinner order. There are lots of restaurants accommodating social distancing and safe food pick up. This is not one. read more

Pros: The kebab here is everything one needs in life. The chicken kebab is my favorite -- perfectly juicy, slightly charred, and so much flavor. Entrees come with homemade pita bread and a refreshing cucumber yogurt dip (which also tastes delicious drizzled over rice). Because the food is always so satisfying, I was left with no option but to give 5 stars. Cons: Although the setting leads one to believe this is "fast food", the wait can be just as long as a fine dining restaurant, especially if the restaurant was just hit with many customers at once. This is the downside to freshly prepared food -- it has to be made from scratch once a small batch runs out. So do not come here expecting your food to arrive quickly. Just be patient, munch on your pita, have an appetizer, and relax. read more

I wasn't sure what to eat on a gloomy, damp day. One of my friends suggested Moby Dick's House of Kabob and although I was skeptical at first, I'm glad I went with her recommendation. They have a nice, clean interior with plenty of seats for a casual dining experience. The service was pretty friendly and my food came out promptly. I ordered the kabob-e joojeh. The kabob-e joojeh are chunks of boneless chicken breast seasoned for a full blast of flavor, and marinated in their citrus-y house sauce. The chicken was served over a bed of aromatic basmati rice, two chargrilled tomatoes, and a big piece of pita bread. The lemon juice marinade made the chicken tender and delicious, although some pieces were a little bit dry to the taste. The basmati rice was flavorful enough to eat alone, and the tomatoes were a nice touch to accompany the pieces of chicken. Their yogurt sauce is something worth trying. I wasn't too sure of how it was going to be because when I taste-tested it alone, it had a weird flavor. My friend said it would be better with the chicken because it complements the marinade well. She was right because when I drizzled the sauce over the chicken bits, it brought out the flavor even more (and helps with some of the dryness)! It was a pretty good meal, and was decently priced for the value of it all. I need to try what else they have to offer on their menu the next time I visit. read more

I like the sides in the little deli cups but be careful that you don't order too many--while moderately priced, diner for two can cost more than $65. "Moby Dick's House of Kabob" I'm still trying to put these two together. Whales and Mediterranean cuisine? Maybe I need to read the wiki on the company but the name just seems a touch random to me. But with weird names sometimes comes good food... right? The restaurant is a fast casual place thats more towards the fast food service with the casual (if not table service) pricing. I had the kabobs, which as you might guess is a lot of the menu. I had the beef and lamb combo with rice and pita bread. The meats were a very tasty experience. The beef was cooked to probably medium well without being too dry or hard to eat. It had good flavor and could have easily been eaten on its own or stuffed in the provided pita bread. The lamb was also surprisingly good eats. Again not too dry and it was cooked correctly. Not too many table service joints are good at making lamb, its funny that a quick service place named after a whale could. The meal came with a pita cut into quarters. Unfortunately for me the consumer of the pita, it was very dry. It tasted like it had sat in a hot drawer all day even though it was only 2pm (and still busy) when I went to eat. The Tzatziki sauce was a touch watery and lacked flavor. If they told me they made it a 100 miles away at a commissary and shipped it in, I wouldn't be surprised. The restaurant is small and doesn't have many seats. There's a large patio with chairs and some umbrellas if you're lucky to catch good weather. They have an awkward intercom type of system to call you back up to claim your food. The only problem is if you're outside there's no speaker there. Also theres no where to stand comfortably to wait for that food so you're first inclination is to grab a table and hold it for the 5 to 10 mins your food takes to come up. That makes for crowding the restaurant's limited tables with patrons who aren't eating. Seems like there could be a better system. They serve the dreaded Pepsi products. I had Diet Brake Fluid Pepsi flavor... otherwise known as Diet Pepsi. And they're the first place I've found in Maryland since being here that didn't have brewed tea. Seriously, only Nestea is a crime that should only occur out west. Maryland eating establishments you know better. Overall it was good, overpriced but good. I don't think I'd make it a regular haunt if I lived near just based on value but I did enjoy the food. read more

We ordered the lamb and ... I don't even know what to call the other meat, on rice, but they messed up our orders and gave us chicken and lamb. We had take out and didn't notice until we got home but they gave us a full refund over the phone and gave us a free meal. So for a free meal, it was excellent. And it is excellent customer service. The food is displayed very nicely but the was just okay. I've had a lot of kabobs around the area. This isn't the best but it is definitely a solid place to go to. read more

I ordered delivery through their website but the order never arrived. Doordash has no record of ever receiving notification yet moby blamed door dash saying they never came by. I paid a 5.00 tip plus a 4.99 delivery charge for delivery service never received. Had to drive there myself. After this screw up, no more moby for our family. read more

We have gone to this place for years and went to the original location in Georgetown many decades ago. We are glad that they have opened a few more locations and hope they will open one in the Baltimore suburbs soon! Hands down they serve the best chicken kabobs around. Eating-in means getting the food nicely hot and moist. The yogurt that goes with the flatbread is delicious. It's embarrassing but the chicken kabobs are so good, we have never ordered anything else. This is yummy Persian fast-food, plain and simple. As long as you keep that in mind, this place is pretty awesome. They get busy sometimes and you may have to wait 15-20 minutes for your food. But the food is cooked-to-order and not reheated so it's worth the wait. A hearty 2 thumbs up! read more

The food quality at Moby Dick has gone down hill over the last 18 months. The chicken quality has a rubbery texture, the hummus is over salted and the grilled tomatoes are terrible. All three of these food items historically were pretty good. The hummus has been the best tasting item with a consistent quality for years. Hopefully someone at Moby Dick reads this and works to improve the quality of all their food so it's on par with the past. read more

It has been three times that they've given me the wrong food upn pickup, either they got my order wrong or gave me someone else's order (as tonight). Highly recommend you thoroughly check your food before you walk out the door....since they clearly don't. read more
