I really like this new addition to Moby Dick. The main dining room is a bit dated, but the oyster bar is light, airy & service is excellent and the food was really good. Prices are decent. Best things on the menu were the tuna poke and the oysters. We had a half dozen oysters which cost $24. Service is great and the manager Simon went above and beyond making sure we were happy and clearing the table even. Really a lovely experience with a beautiful view of the ocean. read more

To make a long story short, a group of 25 of us had reservations at another restaurant on the pier and it closed when, a week earlier, we called to confirm the one private room we had reserved. So, looking for another place, we called them and they could not have been nicer!!!! They reserved an area for us and even created a menu from there menu as we had a certain budget from our group activity to work with. This place was a huge let-down. First, the service was terrible. Our waiter had an obvious attitude, and forgot to bring somebody's dinner item to our table. After kindly reminding him about it, he never brought it. After the whole table was finished with dinner, he finally came around and said that the kitchen doesn't have any more of the item. After all that, he never offered any compensation for the inconvenience (like a free dessert) or anything of the sort that could have made up for something like this. All around bad vibes from him, which brought down the experience. In addition, the calamari was so chewy we couldn't eat it, and the lobster roll barely had any lobster in it. The prices are also so ridiculous for the quality that it felt like a waste of money. To give credit where credit is due, the branzino was pretty decent, and the clam chowder was actually very good. This review is for the Oyster Bar. My husband and I stopped in for drinks and apps before heading to the Santa Barbara zoo lights event. We loved the newly renovated area and found a seat at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and pointed out the happy hour menu and specials. We each enjoyed a cocktail - I had the Paloma and my husband had the Old Fashion. Both delicious. We shared oysters that were great. Still a little hungry, we ordered the tacos. They were on the small side but the flavors were fantastic. I could've eaten a dozen more. This restaurant is located on Stern's Wharf. It has been around forever! The view from every seat is great! You can watch everyone from boating, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and sometimes surfing. It's nice to go walking on the wharf after eating. The atmosphere is nice inside. It's fun seeing all of the nautical stuff all around the restaurant The food is okay. The prices are standard. Parking is free for 90 minutes. If you go over, you will have to pay $3.50/hr. The only thing that I would be cautious about is that if you use any type of discount, you will be questioned about it the entire time from the time you present it to getting the bill. read more

So sad. I'm a seafood loving Southern California native travelling through and craving delicious seafood. Stumbled across Moby Dick on the pier in Santa Barbara. The menu looked awesome. I was greeted and sent to the bar where I wanted to sit. After almost 15 minutes of waiting I finally flagged down the bartender and asked him for a cocktail and an appetizer. Note: VERY FEW people in this section. The first thing he said was "did you tell the host you were here?" To which of course I said, yes. How would I be sitting at a table with a menu if I had not been seated by the host? It took an additional 10 minutes for my server to show up. My food started off delicious but then I bit into something that lit my mouth on fire. I had very diligently reviewed the menu to make sure nothing spicy was on it. WTF? It ruined my dinner. I had to ask 2 wait staff what that could have been, and I eventually learned they add chili flakes to their garlic cheese toast, which is NOT described on the menu. Why?????? On my way out I stopped to use the restroom where I found two of three stall toilets were full of fecal matter. As I walked out, I told the two hostesses of the situation and they shrugged their shoulders and said "Thank you, we will tell our manager". Yikes! read more

I know seafood is expensive but to me everything was $10-15 overpriced for what you actually received when it came to flavors/quantity. I unfortunately didn't take food pics (too distracted chatting with my friends) BUT I do believe the calamari was $17 and instead of getting the usual shareable basket of ringlets, they bring almost a "squid filet" looking thing. That had 5 pieces (there were 3 of us) and something about how small everything was made me feel a little..unimpressed. (Flavors were good though) Now to the pasta, one of the most expensive things on the list, i will just have to say that I PRAY and HOPE that the reason mine had just about 0 flavor, was because I swapped my shellfish for regular fish. But still goodness gracious, could I not get a little FLAVOR on my plate? Everything (including the fish they served on top) tasted like NOTHING. Without adding my own salt and hot sauce that meal would have been a complete bust. Will I visit again? Likely not. I just wasn't too impressed. I would say that was the best part of our meal though... Between the 6 of us, we ordered some clam chowders, lobster rolls, seafood rolls, a crab Louie salad and the seafood tacos. The rolls were meh. The bread was pretty dry and the filling was lacking in flavor. It also had lettuce and celery in it... Which I don't think is typical for a seafood/lobster roll. The clam chowder had ok flavor, but wasn't well mixed, so there were some grainy lumps in it. I arrived at about 5:45 and there were few people in the restaurant. I ordered Cioppino and the fish and chips. The fish and chips was quite disappointing, dry, overcooked fish. The fries were crispy and pretty good on fresh coleslaw, also ok.. The Cioppino was alright but not good enough to earn a recommendation. The service was top notch though with the dishes arriving quickly. The waitress that served me was very nice and deserves commendation. The ambiance is very nice. Windows all around with a breathtaking view of SB and the sea. In all, I have to agree with the overall rating of 3 stars. The owners or mangers HAVE to sample the quality of the food they are serving. There are a thousand seafood purveyors and better breaded cod can be found. Came here because the restaurant we originally wanted to go to was too crowded, however we were very pleasantly surprised!, This is an older restaurant with pretty standard seafood menus but ocean front view is very nice. We order their hamburger and it was average, however the fries are very nice. The seafood stew however was wonderful, it was higher priced but it was enough for two people to share. They did not have bread on their menu but upon inquiry our waiter brought us a plate of nicely toasted sourdough bread which was great! The combination of this spread and the seafood stew was wonderful. I would highly recommend that. So not a great looking or famous spot but not disappointing at all! Had an excellent dinner here last night! Visiting with my family, before our sunset cruise. Service was great, even after our cruise when I had to use the ladies' room, they allowed me to do so. Our party of five had the calamari, seafood nachos, the whole fish, the 2lb crab, a Cesar salad and fish & chips! Oh!...and the margaritas. All of it was great, and the full party of five agrees. Don't bother ordering the "steamers" mussels and clams in broth with garlic bread. $19. There were exactly 7 mussels which were tiny and tough inside and 7 clams. I had the pleasure of enjoying fresh oysters, expertly mixed cocktails, wonderful service, and a beautiful Saturday sunset at the restaurant's oyster bar. Our party of seven also had three children who weren't overlooked; indeed, the staff went out of its way to make sure they were happy as well. I haven't explored their menu beyond the drinks, oysters, and apps, but if you're in the mood for any of those things, you won't regret visiting Moby Dick's.
