An interesting place to hang out if you are in the mood for a dive bar and bar food. We sat at the bar - some nice swivel bar stools. Just make sure, if you are not a smoker, to not sit next to someone who's been puffing outside. Free blues jam - but I'd have to pass on whoever was thhre last night. Friendlly service. Mock Crest is my favorite neighborhood hangout. They have great food (not just bar food), great patio, and super friendly staff.

I had never been to Mock Crest before but since it is in the neighborhood we decided to try it. We arrived just before happy hour ended and choose to order off the HH menu. There are not alot of choices but we choose to have a side salad, tater tots, 2 half BLT's, and a cup of soup. The soup was salmon chowder and it was great, The BLT's were also good along with the tator tots. The salad arrived and had red onions on it which we couldn't handle so they took it away and were going to make us another one but then didn't bring it until we were done eating. They took it off the bill. Overall is was ok. We will go back and try breakfast sometime. read more

This place isn't for everyone but staff is always nice, food is great, and the drinks are good as well. I'd say their specialty is their burgers which are seared to perfection and not too greasy with great tasting and very fresh veggies/ special ingredients to top. Nice cozy bar atmosphere that tends to have 80s pop and obscurities playing. Also boasts live local shows on a regular basis. My personal pick? Their bacon cheeseburger saddled with a cold Molson. Noise level? Depends on if there's a show of course. read more

My loaded bacon grilled cheese was not loaded. I order two (one for myself and a friend). I ordered one with tomato and one without. I realized the bartender never asked what bread I wanted so I informed her that the one with no tomato I would like a bun and the one with tomato would like rye bread. She said okay no problem. 45 min later when the other bartender brought the food I could tell my friend had sourdough w|o tomato and mine had tomato. No biggie, when I said something she said that it wasn't specified so they just guessed....really..... And second, why call something loaded when it only had two slices of cheese, two cut in half thin slices of bacon, and two slices of tomato. The flattest sandwich I have had. read more

Portlandia writers - listen up. i'm a recent immigrant from Brooklyn, NY. My wife discovered this little bar off the beaten path and dragged me to it. It would appear to have all the charm of a little dive bar where everyone knows you name. Looks like it's been around since the 70s. Motley little band playing covers stuck in the corner. Mixed age clientele. Multiple games of Kino on various screens - check. Jägermeister machine - check. Security camera of the smoking yard on screen - check. Sign that says - 'we cannot serve you if you are inebriated'. Wha? Oh well... wife has two rum and cokes... i have two beers. And then order a shot of Suaza.... shhhhhhuaza...(pointing to the bottle). It's not my label - i don't know how it's pronounced. 'I can't serve you', says the bartender At age 49, for the first time ever, i've been told i can't be served... after a whopping two beers. I would say this is some sort of anomaly in this town but about 5 years ago, while visiting, i was told i could not buy a six pack of beer at Whole Foods because my 43 wife (not me) who was standing next to me in the line did not have her ID. Miss bartender, i didn't say anything to you when i saw you inhaled a pile of nachos smothered in melty cheese. What gives here? What's with the prison guard - don't use common sense - mentality that i sometime sense in this town. If i am in bar and I'm able to sit politely on my bar stool - i'd like to have the freedom to sip my poison til the cows come home and not be concerned if I appeared tired... or lost in my thoughts. If i'm a drunk jack ass - hell, i'll help you toss my ass out - but come on! You are a bar for christ sake! People aren't their for your ice berg salads. I gotta tell ya... I'm SUPER impressed. I mean I've eaten there before - a while back - but the food tonight was stupid good. Seriously one of the best burgers ever. I definitely have a soft sport for this divey little jewel. It's refreshing that Mock Crest doesn't try to be something it's not. In fact, I think they define what a GOOD dive should be: -character= check -characters= check (plenty of fun random folks to chat with or just watch) -burger fare= not shabby here, and the cook is a sweet lady who always gives you a sushi bar style hello and goodbye with a smile. -Music= check So, if you find yourself in this end of town and want a cheap beer in a cozy clean little loveable hole, this might just be the place. read more

Went here for the first time because I was randomly hanging out at Kenton Park when a band showed up. And then a lady with free drink tickets to this place and Greeley Avenue Bar and Grill showed up and handed me one. I'm all about free drinks. This is actually a very nice dive bar. It does that very well - the bartenders and waitstaff are friendly, the food is greasy and nothing to particularly write home about but it does the job, and you can get cheap cheap beers on tap. The outside seating arrangement is very comfortable, and they even have overhead heaters if you sit on the patio. The clientele here is also friendly - every time I've gone here alone I've ended up striking a conversation with somebody, and every time they've been a little bit loopy, but not creepy or threatening. They have the best live blues bands I've seen in Portland - I'm originally from Detroit so I'm not expecting miracles, but this is definitely the best in the area that I've seen. Saturday nights are music nights. So, this place is friendly, the libations are affordable, the blues is good when you get here on the right night, and the owners give out deals at random concerts in the park. The Mockcrest is the perfect neighborhood bar. The service is always friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is terrific. It's one of those bars where, when you look around, you imagine it could be anywhere in the country, any time in the past 70 years. The food can take a long time to come since it's a one person kitchen, but last time I ate breakfast there, the check came with pudding shots as a complimentary breakfast dessert. I normally would rate this bar a 4 or even a 5, but last night our server, Aaron, made me change my mind. The staff is usually always so friendly. Come to think of it, he's really the only staff member there that doesn't seem to be all that friendly. Me and my guy both ordered food (which was delicious), of which he got my order partially wrong (all I asked for was no onions on my salad) and the poor cook felt horrible, he didn't seem to care - or even ask us how our food was. She did though, she's fantastic! (female with shorter, blonde hair - super nice) Oh dear.....I made the mistake of asking him for a refill on my water. He paused before replying, then said, "um, you know there's a water station over there (pointing)?" me, "oh, I'm sorry to have bothered you." He doesn't say another word, grabs my cup and refills it for me. Was it really that hard to walk 5 feet to get me more water? You were going behind the bar anyway to get my guy another drink. I came here on a challenge from the manager Laurie to try the burger (a friendly one though based on my stated preference for the burger at Slim's). I went with the blue cheese burger and it was really good. You have to understand though that I only started to eat blue cheese about 3 minutes ago so for me to say this is a compliment of the highest order. As for the rest of the place...it was great! The back patio was like sitting in someone's back yard with about 40 of your closest friends. Loud, laughing, and relaxed! The staff buzzed around taking care of everyone efficiently in a super friendly manner. This is one of those places masquerading as any old dive bar but once you settle in you can tell the people who work here really care about their jobs and their patrons. I've lived in the neighborhood for almost six years, and although the food is just regular bar food, it's made that much better by the amazing staff who clearly puts thought and care into what they are doing. Linda makes the best grilled cheese I've ever had and Brenna always remembers my drink order, even if I haven't been there in months. Everyone who works here is awesome but I must say Brenna and Linda make a spectacular team and hold it down at this great neighborhood bar. If you're looking for a late night snack, look no further! Five stars across the board in food, drinks, ambiance and ALL the staff is great. Back yard and deck are wonderful and my partner and I love to kick back with our drinks and a cigar. Musical guests are varied and we love to come and see whoever is playing on Friday night. This is my go-to spot to relax away from home. My brother and I used to come here often for a great environment and good beer. However the last time we came our burgers were raw in the middle. We told the bartender John and he it was normal and okay. We both got sick. We complained to him the next day and no apology or compensation was offered. Stay away from the menu. read more

I love the Mock Crest! I always have fun here. The service is always friendly and competent. The food is consistent and available late. The beer garden is lovely and a lot of good bands play here for free as well year round which can make it pretty loud in the winter months as it is pretty tiny.. One of my favorite hangs in Portland.... They have live music usually 3 nights a week. (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) Staff is very friendly. Great Happy Hour food and drinks as well as daily specials. John makes great food during the evening hours. Breakfast is just as good as well. Drink prices can't be beat and they don't skimp on the booze with their mixed drinks. There is a nice patio out back and a couple of new TVs in bar to catch whatever game may be on. read more

Yep 5 Stars for sure. I love a low key neighborhood dive bar. Mock's decor is divey but really in a good way. The layout of the long narrow bar reminds me of old town history and locals siding up to the bar, chatting with whoever is listening. The drinks are cheap and even cheaper at happy hour. A cheap dive bar with a happy hour..that is bonus in my book!! I had the happy hour burger and it was pretty bland. However, the fries were awesome. I love the "hand cut" fries with the skins on. Tim likes the fries too so I really have to watch him. Our group had to wait a bit to get service so I had to go up to the bar but really, that doesn't bother me in the least when I look around and see how busy it is for only 3 waiters and one is also the cook. They also do Groupon deals and my friend happened to get one that day. It was awesome! read more

I love this place. The food is great, the staff are super nice and welcoming, and they have Tootsie Rolls in a jar. It's my fave casual neighborhood place to hang out. It's a little dive-y, but not that much so. Way cleaner than your average dive. You can watch a variety of sports on the multiple TVs. They have live music almost every night. When they don't have music, they have free poker. This place also really make you feel like they appreciate their regular customers. Since the staff started recognizing me and my boyfriend, they give us even better service. Oh yeah, and they have jello shots. read more

Been coming to M Cr for more than 2 decades and have recommended it as One of PDX's Best Kept Secrets. Still love the layout, the ambience, the good food and the intermittently good music.. And the killer LIT's.... The only place to catch the truly great Johnny Ward's Sharkskin Review. All that said , the table service is spotty and sometimes hard to get - and worse, one of the regular barkeeps is so damn rude, arrogant, insulting, and gives such pointedly hostile service that it's almost ruined it for me. Why they have this self-indulgent 20-something twit working is a mystery to me. If I knew her name - I'd post it here. Right now, because of this one lousy employee, I find it hard to rate it higher than 3 stars. Maybe we'll get lucky, and she'll move on to other venues. read more

Judging by the facade I expected a complete dive but was delighted to be wrong. Awesome patio, more of a back yard vibe than a restaurant, except you get friendly and prompt table service. This place is pretty cool. My friend is a regular so we met up with her and it was a blast. The bartender was a super sweet heart and after only one visit she already remembered my name. It gets loud and crowded when the band plays, but didnt stop my fiance from getting me up to dance. Just an all around comfort place and the food was pretty good as well. Perfect in its class. Warm, friendly, delicious, local, reasonably priced and accessible (meaning: you can get a seat - I do think the front door is ADA but don't quote me on ADA overall). I love the club sandwich so much that I sometimes send my husband to bring me one home when I'm not feeling like going out. It is huge, so although I am a pig I usually end up eating half and saving half for later. I also love it as a music venue. Unlike some places, I can enjoy shows without putting in ear plugs. And I really enjoy them! Please go there often enough to support what they are doing, but not so often that we can't get our favorite seat by the window. Ok, finally, some complaints: I find video poker depressing and the patio is too full of tobacco smoke. But Mock Crest is by no means the only bar in Portland to succumb to those things. (The patio is very nice except for the smoke. And when I smoked, I loved it. But then I got cancer, so now I don't.) read more

This place is SO comfortable. Its small and compact. The staff is great ... hard working folks just trying to get by like the rest of us. The bar top has the original linoleum from the 40's: look at the wear marks from thousands of elbows and beers. The bar stools look like originals too. The music is great and free. This is a quality dive bar. QUALITY DIVE BAR. Great staff, everyone doing the cooking does a great job with breakfast and lunch/dinner items on the menu. The fries make your mouth water. I've been here on multiple occasions, usually looking for brunch and a wee hair of the dog. This neighborhood spot (maybe surprisingly) wins on so many levels from food to service. Some #ProTips: * If they have pudding shots, get one. Or two. I won't judge. * If the Huevos Rancheros is on special, and you're a vegetarian, get it. With veg sausage. So good. The right marriage of crispy and hearty. Nom. * If you're omnivorous, get the BLT. Seriously. Bacon and lettuce. In Every. Bite. Just enough mayo and tomato to bring it all together. So crispy. Pretty cramped specially when there's a band and it definitely seems like a lot of people to bring their parents there or something but it looks like they have brunch and I hear the food is pretty good.
