I was really starting to love this salon until recently the past few times I've been, the techs have been in such a hurry to remove my gel that they've been overfiling to the point that now my nails are super thin and brittle. Tonight, I came in on a slow rainy night and instead of being appreciative for the business the woman who greeted me made a comment that I took a while to arrive, and then I was rushed out afterwards because the staff wanted to close the shop early. I was trying to let my nails dry for just a few minutes and the woman who did my nails said "excuse me, our ride is waiting outside" -- I when told her I wanted to wait a few minutes so that it didn't smudge, she was less than sympathetic and sure enough, I got a huge smudge on my index finger. I'm the type that would go back the next day (because I was rushed out, not bc I was careless) but they are closed on Sundays. C'est la vie. When it's good it's a nice place, but when it's bad it's awful. read more

I had a pedicure (with Trinny - she's awesome!). Got the Margarita Pedi (something like that) and it was great. My feet were in sad sad shape and Trinny took over an hour working on those puppies. Got scrubbed with salt, callous treatment, the works & she didn't yell to the other employees. She was also only one who was cleaning her station when I came in (I was the only client there). Went to this place years ago (4-5) and it was okay ! Recently went after the gym and I was sooo pleasantly surprised!! 2 manicurists aided in doing my gel manicure and pedicure. The detail on the gel nail was impeccable! Loved it, they also paid special attention to my feet, massaging and cutting all cuticles carefully! I was please with the variety of colors and their ability to match gel with toe polish! Their work is meticulous and fabulously artistic! So happy I found a new spot! My feet were tore-up. I asked a co-worked in Manhattan Beach to recommend a nail salon and she recommended this one. Jasmine was the lady that gave me a pedicure that lasted over an hour! I sat in a nice, clean, massage chair with airjets in the water on my feet, and watched the Olympics as my feet were massaged and pampered. Pluses: The place was clean, Jasmine was awesome, I got a "dead skin removal" treatment that took all that nasty roughness off my feet (in a pile of dead skin! Ew!), a nice massage and salt scrub rub down, a peppermint mud treatment, and a cool design painted on my toes! At the end, my feet and toes felt and looked fantastic! The minus? This cost $40. Maybe this is normal for this sort of treatment, and while I "splurged" this time because I needed the extra skin removal/treatment, in the future I'll probably stick to my $20 gossip-salons in Long Beach. Over the years this has become my go-to nail salon. The staff is pretty friendly (for the most part), the prices are reasonable, and the quality of their services is high. As someone who continually gets pink-and-whites and gel polish put on, I always try to seek out good places that won't hurt me or produce bad results. Since discovering Mod Nailspa, JASMINE is the only girl whom I allow to touch my nails. She is great, talkative, friendly, and her work is spot-on! She can do the pink-and-whites quickly and easily, even if you're in one of the pedicure chairs relaxing. I FULLY recommend her for pink-and-whites, acrylics, or gels. I will admit that I occasionally feel rushed, but this is only if there are women waiting in the front or it is past closing time. Other than those occasions, they tend to be pretty laidback and allow you ample leisure time while getting a pedicure and reading a magazine. Their tools are always obviously clean/sterilized and over years of using Mod Nailspa, I've never gotten any kind of infection (knock on wood). I left a great review once before but I have to leave a new one. I enjoy going there for gel manicures & waxing and have had no problems with either. But I have had bad pedicures THREE TIMES now. Each time it was so bad that I asked for it to be redone. The manager has been happy to redo it each time which I appreciate and told me next time to just ask for her, but I don't think it's reasonable to have employees that cannot do a nice job putting polish on, when I'm paying them for their expertise. I've come to this place at least 8-10 times and every time was unpredictable with service, quality, and efficiency. I will say that after giving this place too many chances to represent themselves as a worthy nail salon, I have concluded that's it's absolutely TERRIBLE. The convenience of the location was ultimately the main reason why I went there so many times, but it's been an utter waste of money and time. I like to support locals and believe in small businesses but I feel beyond disappointed. The technicians are either arrogant, lazy, apathetic, flat out mean, or all of the above. One technician who actually does gel manis really well (petite with long hair, don't know her name) ignored me as I spoke to her then when I still went out of my way to try and win her kindness over I told her "oh my goodness, you're so good and my nails are beautiful!" She stayed silent for a moment, then arrogantly said with a harsh tone "I know." Disgusting. This passed visit, the woman who did my pedi was what pushed me over the edge. Just to some it up, she was demanding, rude, lazy, careless, and depressing. She concluded the pedi without even putting tissue between my toes, then walked off. Lastly, I've had on multiple occasions where they have 2 separate girls work on my nails which I've found to be SO odd, which gives me the impression that's setting me up for having to tip more when it's so unnecessary. I myself work in customer service at a high management position and tend to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but I will NEVER go back to this place. I recommend to anyone who's read my review up until this point, to NOT go here. Don't let its seemingly high foot traffic fool you that may translate to all-around quality service. I have been here twice. The first time was with my Mom and it was alright nothing special. Then I went there again with her and it was not so great...the girl cut my toe nails wrong, which gave me an ingrown toe nails...OUCH. Plan on going back to my old place to get it fixed. I will def not be going back her. The reason my Mom goes is to get her full set...they do a nice job and are decently priced for this,but if you are not going for a full set then STAY AWAY! I've never had a bad experience here. Yeah it's cash only, but if you were going to use a debit card, same thing. I love the spa chairs and all the girls are really nice. I like to relax and zone out and it's nice no one is asking my life story. The regular polish selection could improve, but they have every gel color you could think of. I really like Mod Nailspa! It is incredibly clean, the staff is friendly and do great work, they have a huge selection of colors, and ultimately make getting a mani-pedi a great experience. I can usually go nearly a week before my nails start to chip, which is awesome. While the quality is great, it's a bit pricey. Including tip, I end up with only a little change from $100 for the Margarita mani-pedi. I could go weekly somewhere cheaper, but I choose to go monthly here because they do such a good job. read more

I just moved to the area and my feet were in terrible shape. I had a pedicure and manicure with Hannah. She was so wonderful! The place was clean and they got me in right away. I got the callous treatment and it was great. No credit cards accepted, but there is an ATM on site and they will reimburse the $1.00 fee for the ATM. That was also great. read more

This is my new nail place! I had been a faithful fan of Dominics in MB until I went there around 4pm last Sunday with my roomie for mani/pedi's. The man rudely told us he wouldn't be able to take us....he didn't even try and offer alternatives. Annoyed, we hoped in the car and came to Mod Nailspa. I had been once before and had a good job done on my pedicure. The prices are slighly cheapter ($30 for a mani/pedi) than other salons I've visited and they do a great job. The staff is very friendly, the salon is bright and clean with large flat screen TV's and comfortable chairs. 1 week later my nailpolish is still going strong. I love this place. It's a great price for the quality work you get. AND if it turns out that something was not done right (rare), you can go in there and someone will fix it for FREE! I used to go to this other place on Highland Ave because it was cheap and close by, but this was before I had experienced the magic of Mod Nailspa! Literally it was day and night difference from the other place. At Mod Nailspa you really do get what you pay for because you pay a little more and you get the best! Everyone that works there is friendly and nice. They always take walk-ins, but appointments are best if you have a favorite nail artist. My all time favorite is Jasmine. She is so nice and funny and she does the best work on your nails. But really, anyone else there is great too. Before I found Jasmine I usually was just a walk in and I got anyone that was available. Probably everyone who has worked there has done something or other for me before and every single time its been quality. Never have I been disappointed with any service at Mod Nailspa. The ONLY thing I can say that I do not like about Mod Nailspa is that they do not do gel pedicures. It's really not a big problem, but usually I am getting some kind of gel on my nails, and I like to match that with my toes. Since it is near home, I sometimes go here if I'm in a rush & need a gel manicure PROS: This nail spa is clean and the staff is friendly. CONS: - They don't do gel pedicures (which I think is just plain bizarre). - Whenever I go here, at least one of my gel nails will totally peel off within a week. When I go to my usual spot in Hermosa Beach, they never, EVER peel...let alone within a week! - They are INCREDIBLY brutal & rough when scraping off gel. I know it takes some work to get off but I think if they used a different technique to soak it off, it wouldn't be so painful. Kind of a bummer since it is so convenient but I only go here as a last resort. read more

The only nail shop I trust! Been coming here for 10 years, and they still remain my #1 go to. They are very clean, which is a MUST for me. They use new scrubs, nail file, and buffer every time. They also have very good quality nail polish (OPI is my fav). I always go to Trinni for my pedicure. She is very thorough with cutting my cuticles, and she takes her time to make sure everything is perfect (I'm a perfectionist). I go to Vicky for my nails. She's good at shaping, and getting all my cuticles. When I want to switch it up, she's the only one I'll trust to do my acrylics or designs! They also both give the best massages!! I literally haven't been here in over a year, but have never forgotten this place and cannot wait to finally get back out there. I live literally 45 minutes away from here, but this is the warmest, sincerest nail salon I have come across in socal. All the women are kind. You feel like an individual not part of a factory. The salon, itself, has a good energy, it is open, flows, not crowded, well-lit. All these finer details make for a better experience. My cousin recommended Nod NailSpa. This place is fabulous! I had a mani pedi with french gel on my fingers. My cousin gets this and it lasts 3 weeks. My nails look soooo much better than they did when I had them done at the last place. Another plus is that the women who did my mani/pedi actually spoke English! I was able to fully communicate with them and tell them what I wanted and they understood, what a concept. I will definitely go back and I'll ask for the same person for my mani, she's outstanding!! So when I stumbled upon Mod Nailspa and serendipitously ended up with Ivy, it was like love at first sight. I always get gel manicures from her. I will never go back to this place. I told Jasmine, my pedicurist, that I only wanted the basic pedicure. Twice she tried to convince me to get a more expensive one, in addition to a manicure. I stood my ground: No Jasmine, I can't afford a $45 pedicure. Her response: "you shouldn't feel bad about yourself." UM.... WTF?! So apparently a basic pedicure means that you leave with polish all over your skin. When I kindly asked her to remove the excess polish, and she acted like I was asking her to start over. I'm really not sure how places like this stay in business. To add insult to injury, she spent the entire time SNEEZING ALL OVER MY FEET. My sister in law comes here as a regular customer but I was pretty disappointed with the service. We got here on a Friday night at 6:30pm. They close at 7:30pm so they were rushing all of us. They did my mani and pedi in less than 20mins! That was the fastest mani/pedi I ever received nonetheless, it was a sloppy job. I had the girl redo two of my nails cause there were so many tiny bubbles. She was nice to offer to do all my nails again cause they ALL had bubbles on them.
