I know this place gets busy and so I leave for an earlier lunch to beat the crowd. The kids working here are doing a fantastic job of keeping things moving even when the customers aren't. Expect to wait a little bit but know that's just CV... All the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Their Marionberry lemonade is off the hook. Did I mention their crushed ice? I'm from the Central Valley so a place like this doesn't really exist. Unfortunately, I have a severe dairy allergy so I'm that complicated person when I go to places. I came down to visit my friends for the night and they recommended this place since they carried dairy-free cheese. It was my first time here and when we walked in they had a line out there door so that already was a good sign. We waited awhile but once we got to the counter to order the staff were very friendly and accommodating to me. Daniel took all the precautions to make sure he was handling my food dairy-free. He helped me with recommendations and made it easy for me to order. I basically got everything on my pizza that was dairy free lol but the pizza was bomb! 1) Pizza is mostly really good, but not always - is a bit of a hit or miss. 2) For a place that has "super fast" on the sign out front, maybe they could find a way to expedite the ordering process. If there are more than 10 people in line (not uncommon) expect to wait 30+ minutes to even get up to the counter. 3) word of advice to the guy taking my order last time I was there: it's ok to ask for proper spelling of a persons name, it's great that you care. But if they say it doesn't matter, then drop it. And if they tell you, after repeated pressuring from you for correct spelling, that it's not actually their name, DON'T ask them for their real name, and for God's sake don't give them a hard time about the whole thing! This is the best pizza in Castro Valley which is why we keep going back. I docked them a star cause it can be a wait. The main issue people have with this place is they tend to underestimate the time it will take to get your pizza made. I've gone and waited in the line, as well as ordered online for pick up and, in general, it takes longer than they say it will. Don't get me wrong, they make your pizza pretty quick, and you get to TOTALLY customize the toppings for a flat rate, which is awesome. The issue is they tell you it's going to be faster than it actually is and that is a bummer if you're not prepared. My strategy is order online and arrive 5-10 min after it's supposed to me ready. If you're eating in you can grab a table and beverages and wait for/pick up your pie(s). If you are taking out, I like to call 5 min before the pickup time they say to check on the order, but still plan to show up 5-10 min after they say it'll be ready. I like the mega-dough because I prefer a more substantial crust (their normal dough makes a nice crispy thin crust pizza). All toppings I've tried are fresh and delicious, except I didn't personally enjoy the sausage. My top pizza orders from here: Mega dough + red sauce (ask for extra red sauce) + mozzarella + bacon + tomato Mega dough "Tristan" + Grilled Chicken w/ extra pesto and red sauce on the side. read more

Every time we visit this location we are pleased to find the tables, counters, work area, and bathrooms clean! Great location and walking distance from home!! (If you live near the village, otherwise, depending on the time you come, parking can be horrendous!) Seems almost every time we come we are greeted by the same smiling face. Extremely unorganized and slow. They don't put orders in at the same time so even if you order three pizzas together you will get them 10 mins apart. The line is always long and moves very slowly so be prepared to wait. I ordered online and it still wasn't done by the time they said it would be. The ingredients are okay. Changing the face of a sleepy Castro Valley...for the better. MOD is a great new addition to the Village, with big windows, a high ceiling interior, large outdoor seating patio, cool (and loud) re-imagined retro music, and good family friendly food. On our first visit, it was day two of their grand opening. Lots of people, and the line was to the door most of the evening that we were there. The setup is what (in my opinion) has become a staple for so many food establishments. You get in line, look at the giant menu board, and then proceed Chipotle-style (for lack of better explanation) down the assembly line, calling out the type of pizza, or salad, and what you want it to be like when you eat it... With the large number of diners here on this particular night, it was amazing the organization and coordination of the workers to put this volume of food out. But, don't get me wrong, it DID take a long time to get through the Disney-length line. I'm sure the frenzy will calm down in a couple weeks. The food: We ordered the seasonal salad, the Phoenix pizza, and the Calexico pizza. Salad was fresh and nicely dressed (not soggy). The pizzas both were very fresh and we enjoyed both of them. We were rather surprised at how much flavor they each had. They did not taste like your run of the mill pizza. We sat outside where we could actually hear each other talk. It was nice. A very good pizza, i find more fresh than it's competition such like, pieology. The customer service is always super attentive and the management is always concerned with the customers. The pizza out of the oven is the best part because of how it still says warm and fresh to say right after. My boyfriend and I were really excited to try MOD pizza ever since we found out they were coming to CV. I am so glad to report it was even better then expected! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and most importantly...delicious pizza! I created my own pizza and it was cooked to perfection. They made it very easy to pick your ingredients, they have them labeled and organized as you go down the line. My boyfriend tried one of their signature pizzas, the "Mad Dog", which he really enjoyed as well. I can't wait to go back and try more pizzas! I am late writing this review but my family & i came here on halloween night as the CV village was having trunk or treat night. MOD is advertising 31% off all orders for those dressed up, so we knew the line would be long but we were craving it. Anyways we order online & decide to not get the 31% because literally the line did not move for 15-20minutes. We order online & we wanted to track if we made the right decision, so the lady behind us stayed in line. We completed our online order & she wasnt even near the front of the line to order. Anyways 45mins go by & that lady finally ordered & im going in to see what the hold up is. No one was expediting the orders and just putting pizzas up or NOT even boxing pizzas. Myself & my partner kept going in to check in every 5-10mins but we kept being ignored along with others. I look to my left & the lady who we ordered 45mins BEFORE has got her 3 pizzas & is sitting and eating. At this point my partner is furious and hangry. We have 3kids with us & they are tired, cold & hungry. People were upset frustrated & hungry yet no one was delegating, managing or leading. How did we order 45mins before someone in line and they had their food seated & eating??? Also my partners pizza & kids pizza was cold as she kept telling the guy that the pizza just sitting on the board was hers & he kept ignoring her. Finally a nice girl walked over & boxed her pizza and one more of ours. Ruined our halloween evening dinner together. Please dont advertise a deal if you cant handle the traffic of people to come in. Doesnt seem like a manager is ever on duty running the shift if they are then MOD should look at retraining their management into being actual managers and leaders of the shifts. In general, please hire more staff or hire more people who can multi task & move efficently. They are always so slow. We had never been here before but heard great things; to say the least, we are extremely happy with the service, food quality, and price. We were served by three great team members -- Brian, Addie, and Marcus. In particular, Brian wanted to ensure we had a great first experience to guarantee our satisfaction. As a business owner myself, customer service is key to repeat business which is the best business. We will definitely be coming back. Wow! I'd only been to Mod in Alameda before tonight. I've always liked it there, but this place takes the cake. We came in on Sunday night at 9:47pm (they close at 10). The girl running the front, Erica (the manager) was running the show by herself for the most part. She was helping some folks taking a long time and there was another couple in front of us. After waiting for about 10min she came over, apologized for the wait and insisted that our meal was on her. She asked if we wanted more than just two pies since it was her treat. We didn't abuse the kindness and just got some garlic strips to complement our meal. She also hooked us up with drinks and a dessert. Such a sweet sentiment. I'll be back for sure read more

Honey and I attended their grand opening. The day's sales were all going to a great cause, helping to feed those more hungry than us. As part of the first 52 guests in the door, we received lots of Mod swag and 2 free pizza or salad vouchers. After a few great announcements from the team about the restaurant and nonprofit, we decided to save one of our voucher and pay for one of the pizzas to support. We were just happy to be a part of the opening event in general. The long wait was worth all the great energy we got to pick up on from everyone on the Mod team greeting us into the restaurant. It's easy to see the GM took great care in selecting those that not only want to work but also provide great experiences to the guests coming in. A few standouts for service today: Monika, Bruno, Anthony; all had awesome conversation with us during our meal. The friendly bright red-haired girl was our first team member in the pizza making process but we didn't catch her name. It was great to see everyone in a great mood and enjoying the hustle and bustle rather than getting panicked and stressed. The pizzas were great too! Thin crust with red sauce, mozzarella, chicken and garlic for me. Half with pepperoni and pineapple and the other half with spinach and roasted redpeppers. I was happy to the red peppers not be way too spicy like at Pieology. This pie was just right for my lunch. Honey ordered the Phoenix pie on the mega crust. The pizza is great every time, the ingredients are fresh and they cook the pizzas pretty much perfectly. I'm only a little displeased with the service... to be fair I am used to the Fremont location which seems to have everything very streamlined. They make the pie as they slide down the line whereas this location seems to spend a lot of time writing down your order, only to have another worker down the line ask what you want anyway, even though it's been written down. They also will ask you if you want an ingredient, for example red sauce or cheese, get your answer, only to ask you the same question once or twice more only moments apart (this has happened on multiple visits) Not sure if they are stressed considering it's a newly opened location or just not paying attention but it can be a little embarrassing to repeat yourself so many times. They also seem kind of unhappy but this may also be due to the fact that it's a fairly new location and they are still getting the hang of things. The wait can also be pretty long, however the pizzas are worth the wait if you have the time! I find myself craving MOD pizza specifically (though I usually am craving pizza in general) far too often, but their assortment of veggie toppings makes it feel a little more guilt-free :) I love the thin crust, which is still strong enough to support the variety of toppings that they offer. I'm especially a fan of the roasted broccoli - who knew broccoli was so good on a pizza! This location, though new, seems to run pretty efficiently. They're always busy, but get through the line fairly quickly. I've used the order pickup function as well, and have never had any issues. This place is similar to the Chipotle model where you move along in a line, telling the staff what you would like from their bar of toppings to put on your pizza. It is made right in front you. With no line, I imagine it would take 5 mins. for you to get your pizza. However, because this place is new, it has been a bit busy with super long lines. We thought we would skip the line and order online. I think that's where we went wrong. My order was supposed to be ready at 5:30. I arrived at 5:25, a little confused because there were no signs indicating where to pick up online orders. I reviewed the email confirmation which says that I could bypass the ordering line and just wait at the pick up area. So I waited there. And waited. At 5:40, I was noticing that the people who were in line when we came in had ordered, paid, AND had gotten their food. I asked the expediter guy what's up with my order. He says he didn't have it there yet. He didn't go check on it, didn't give me an estimate on how much longer...just kept on pushing orders out. So unhelpful. I then went to the cashier and asked if I could even confirm that they got my order. He went to check and then comes back and tells me that he THINKS that they did and I'm getting the feeling they have no idea what happened to my order. At 5:50 I'm ready to ask for a refund because I have no pizzas and I'm waiting 20 mins. now. They tell me that the pizzas are just about to come out. I didn't get them until close to 6:00. They had no labels, my name was no where on the boxes. You're just supposed to trust they got it right. And the pizzas were good but inconsistent. Some of them barely had any toppings while others had too much. Bottomline: don't order online. We'll probably come back but next time, will try standing in line. I really am a super patient person but the staff just felt so dismissive and unhelpful that it's hard to rationalize returning. Such rude service! I am someone who eats my pizzas without cheese so I am usually pretty good at recognizing which pizza is mine when it's out the oven. While waiting for my pizza to come out, I see the the female employee (looked like the manager) put a pizza that looked quite like mine into a pile with two other pizzas and calls out a name that wasn't mine. As the customer approaches to grab the three boxes, I kindly ask the employee/manager if the top pizza was for me, Kelly, because I think they might be mine. Before I finished my sentence, she cut me off and said, no these three pizzas are for a woman name *****. She said this so matter of factly, like she was trying to explain the most simple thing to an idiotic person. Turns out, it was mine. I've only been to blaze it pizza and pieology and this was my first mod pizza experience. I was very pleased with my first timer experience at mod. The inside of mod pizza is very clean and the station workers are very attentive to what you have to ask for. They also have a very nice place to sit outside of the restaurant if you'd like which is great when it's a nice sunny day. As for their choices of pizza, they have thin and thick pizza choices and I was very pleased with the thick crust pizza choice. This place is a nice place for groups to grab food or even if you wanna go alone. If you're ever in castro valley, I would recommend. read more

So I have been to other MOD locations and decided to give his one a try. The line had about 6 people in front of me and 4 behind me and so once I got to the front I created my own specialty pizza. I sat and waited and I saw the people in front of me get theirs and the people behind me got theirs and finally my husband got his. He asked where mine was and they said it had gotten burnt and they would remake it. I had to wait while he basically finished his before mine came out with about half the toppings I had originally asked for. Nothing as a compensation for having to wait and getting a pizza I didn't order. Will not be coming back to this location. read more

My wife and I felt like Blaze pizza but unfortunately there's none in the Hayward/CV area (yet, hopefully someday) We decided to give Mod Pizza a try and I'd say their pizza is pretty good. The standard 11" and crust is too thin IMO. Almost paper/pita chip thin. Otherwise this is a nice new additional to the CV area and a decent alternative to Pieology or Blaze. Though Blaze Pizza has the best crust and sauce out of all three IMO. Enjoy! read more

I went to MOD today for my first time ever with my Family. I have to be honest and say I was extremely disappointed. The person placing my meat/veggie topping rolled their eyes at me when I asked for extra pepperoni which they were extremely busy and I understand asking for extra can be a little frustrating. My biggest disappointment was when I received my pizzas they were ALL burnt on the edges (and I mean black) and pieces of the bottoms were burnt as well. We had to pick around it to make it edible and even then it was still tasting burnt. I would have asked for them to fix it but since it was the second opening day and a line out the door I decided to take my loss because requesting six new pizzas probably would have made their day horrible.
