First time in Walnut Creek location Great concept I was cheerfully greeted as I walked in, waited before I was helped (only one in line) The person building my pizza was excellent, she explaining the ingredients, built it as I requested. The lower star rating is due to; 1. The person in charge of the oven was more interested in a customer/friend than his job. What disturbed me most is he handled the cash register then used his bare hand to pull the pizza off the peel. It happened more than just my pizza. And 2. They kept calling "pie out" (signaling someone to slice the pizza), it took longer than needed for someone to come out from the back to slice it (it was cooling on the table) Maybe the staff is less supervised at 4:00. This was my first time coming here and the main thing that drew me to try it was the "Super Fast" on their sign. When I went inside the atmosphere is very loud and chaotic. The noise echoes through the place like Chipotle. The way they greet everyone is one worker says welcome in or hey guys and then all of the other staff has to say hello as well when they are working their asses of with making pizzas and ringing up customers. There is only two people putting together pizzas with a line of about 20 on a Thursday afternoon. It took about 30mins of standing for me to get my pizza. I have gone to this location before i went off to college and was always 110% satisfied w the food and service. When i went to college, i actually started working at a mod down in socal. Moving back i was really excited to come and eat at my local mod. Everything was pretty good but if i were to nit pick, there could have been better service. My bf and i were not greeted as we were walking in despite two of the girls staring at us. They seemed to be restocking but no word of when they would help us. We waited approx 7 mins, no big deal, but the line started to get real long and when it came to our order, there was a feeling of being rushed. This is my kids' new favorite place for 'dates.' Chipotle style pizza cooked fast and tasty - what's not to love? You order at the counter - simply choose big or small and then add all the ingredients you like. The pizza is thin crust which has the added benefit of cooking within 5 minutes. By the time we pay we almost never wait longer than 3 for it to be ready. They also have a large salad bar option - not quite as fancy as Mixt greens, but a similar idea. The only negative on the salads is that the romaine is often not super fresh, but the rest of the greens options are great. Pro tip: they make their own ding dong style cakes and they are delish and their lemonades are also quite good. It's great to have a tasty, fresh and healthy(ish) option for the kids that isn't the usual fast food fare. read more

Priscilla H. and I dined here last night, and like our experience at the Brentwood location, the Concord location was amazing. I remember the setup of the place; however, instead of creating my own pizza, I went ahead and ordered one of their pre-set ones. I went with the Jasper, that has mushrooms and sausage. We also ordered the red pepper salad to share. The woman who set up our pies and salads, Haley, was awesome. She was very friendly and really knows how to engage with customers. The salad was good, and simple, hence why it's on the "simple salads" menu. My pizza was good, even though I could have used with a little more cheese. However, the flavor was on point, especially the crust. The food also came out extremely fast, which is another positive. I would recommend MOD if you're looking for a little bit more uniqueness to your pizza. read more

We have always loved MOD pizza-their gluten free crust is delicious. Recently we placed a to go order and our Ella pizza was basically just crust,cheese and olives so we called the location about t that night. They said they would write our name down and comp us a free pizza the next time. Since that was our only somewhat negative experience of corse we went back and gave it another try. We were greeted and waited on very patiently and friendly and when we let the cashier know about how or name should be written down for a free pizza she ended up checking to see if they could comp our entire order of a pizza, a salad and threw in two drinks as well. After traveling out to Pleasant Hill for Blaze and Pieology (mind you it was pi day, so they were selling the pizzas for $3.14), we weren't in the mood to stand in line for 2 hours... We settled on Mod, despite them not having a deal on pi day (March 14th). At this point we were hungry. I will tell you this: Pieology was the first of its kind in the Concord/Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area and it was good. When Blaze came around I realized there actually can be more toppings on a pizza (arugula, garlic etc.), but still very similar to Pieology... We tried MOD for the first time last night and it was definitely different. The crust is thin and crunchy compared to the softer, doughy crust at Pieology and Blaze. MOD has the same amount of topping options as both, but here you can also create your own salad while your at it. Pizza was well cooked, and in a way fell in the flatbread family, but I didn't mind it. If you're into the more crisp, well cooked crust, make a trip out to MOD. Ambiance: hipster, cool, wooden tables, clean, well lit, family friendly. Staff: Friendly oh, and if you thought they didn't have any deals on pi day, you're wrong. This model doesn't work. The moment we walked in was terrible. The person behind the counter was almost yelling at us. We were the only people in line. Very pushy to take our order when he could see we were still trying to decide. I really didn't appreciate it. Several flys at several tables. No one coming to clear the tables. The pizza was like kids pizza and nothing like Mary's pizza kitchen or Rocco's pizza across the street. The staff was screaming loud over the music for each order, when they have too many staff and just could have delivered the pizza to my table. I was visiting from Southern California on 7/26/23. I was hoping the customer service and cleanliness was as wonderful as the MODs in SoCal. I decided to go to the Mod in Walnut Creek in the evening around 7:30 pm. However, as I was waiting to be helped, the three employees where huddled together laughing and on their phones. One employee that was heavier-set, Caucasian female with brown hair was sitting on the counter where food is served, chatting away next to open food receptacles. They didn't even notice I had been waiting in line to be helped until I asked if they work there. Given that they were casually chatting, using their phones, and sitting on the counter I initially thought this was a joke. Turns out it wasn't. This is absolutely the worst service, not to mention completely unsanitary violates California Retail Food Codes. Article 5.113971 under personal cleanliness, states clean outer clothing to prevent cross contamination of food. I don't know how clean that woman's outer clothing (shorts/bum) was but I can assure it contaminated the counter where food is served as it does not belong there. In addition for them to be holding their phones while around food can also create cross contamination and make consumers sick. There were plenty of other codes violated but that is just one to name a few. I'm surprised the place got a "pass" for health inspection. I do not recommend this location whatsoever, it is a risk to eat here. Food inspection needs to go again and these three employees should review the food handlers certificate they probably had to take at some point, and review the California retail food code handbook. read more

BEWARE of this place! The staff are young, inexperienced kids that are rude and disrespectful. I went there with my 8 year old child and ordered a few pizzas as I usually do. While waiting I answered an emergency phone call. While on the phone the manager who by the way seems to always have a really bad attitude asked me if I'd been helped. I said "yes". I continued with my emergency call grabbed the pizzas and left. I drove off and as soon as I left the parking lot I noticed I had forgotten to pay, so by me being the honest man that I am, I circled back immediately and went inside to pay. Once inside I got confronted by the manager she asked "why did you leave?" I answered "it was a honest mistake, I was distracted with an emergency phone call. She then said" I asked you did you pay and you said yes" I then told her "I thought you asked me if I've been helped and I said "yes", she replied and told me "you was on your damn phone and you tried to take the pizza!" I said to her" watch your mouth and dont curse at me you dumbass". As I took out my money to pay, she stopped me and said she doesn't need my money and to get out of her restaurant. I said "so you don't want the money"? she said "No, I don't need your money and get out". This lady is bad for business and unprofessional to reject money and make the business lose money over her emotions when I made an honest mistake and came back in a matter of 2-3 mins to correct the matter. I didn't deserve to be attacked by her and her staff when I've been a good customer who's been supporting this business since it opened. My intentions were good and I may have been distracted a little tonight dealing with a dying family member in hospice. She took me completely out of character but disrespect will not be tolerated and this behavior needs to be addressed immediately!! read more

i work at this location and would like to say, when you come to our store, and if we have 5+ online orders we must go to those first because although it looks like you were first, the online orders came before you. please be patient :3 as for the inconsistency, we apologize about that, we have been trying to improve on taking extra steps in training. i would also like to explain why some pizzas sit on the rack, the oven is full of pizzas when you see that, and chances are they don't want to put your pizza in because either it won't fit, or the dough is to fresh and it will stick to the oven and fall apart:/ please be patient with us. we are all human really trying our hardest. i love my job and it's upsetting to see some bad reviews but i will take more steps to make our store better! thank you for reading and thank you for the reviews read more

This place is pretty damn good for a quick bite to eat with a nice beer on the side. I was welcomed by very friendly, customer-oriented staff. I was impressed with the guy greeting me with a genuine 'hello ' and that he would be with me in a moment after he washed his hands. Tried this place with my bf tonight. I was excited to learn they have gluten free and vegan options. I usually ask Chipotle-style places to change their gloves, but that was unnecessary here. When I indicated we were ordering 2 gluten free, dairy free pizzas, they immediately relayed the message for the assembly line that everyone needed to change their gloves due allergy. Everyone was very nice and proactive, taking extra precaution to prevent cross-contamination. They even used a different pizza cutter. This was the best experience I've had by far! The only reason I have 4 stars is because our pizzas had very blackened crust edges and one was undercooked in the middle. This may be due to the gluten free crust type though. I'll definitely go back to try again, and change it to 5 stars of that's the case. read more

Since it's a new restaurant in a brand new shopping center, the hires are new as well. So, it's understandable that there's MUSHROOM for improvement, haha! :) Everyone was just all over the place and everyone was learning (i.e. learning how to make the salads, pizzas, pour beer on tap without foam, etc.). Their customer service was great. Other than how "new" everyone and everything is, the pizza here tasted healthy and fresh! I love how thin the pizzas are and the "mod" size is perfect for a girl who's hangry. This place reminded me of "&pizza" in Washington, DC - love that "Chipotle" concept of making your own pizza and how quickly everything is made. We ordered two "mod" sized pizzas - the pesto sauce with cheese topping, and chose a bunch of meats and veggies for the additional toppings. We also ordered the salad and the greens were super fresh. Our pizzas were ready within approximately 10 minutes. We spent about $30 for two "mod" pizzas, one "mod" salad, and two drinks. We'll definitely be coming back for more post-workout! read more

I usually go to pieology since there isn't one close to my new job I decided to try MOD. Ordered online and it was hot n ready in 20 mins. Got the caliexco added more sauce, pepperoni, ground beef, mushrooms with pesto finish. They forgot the pesto and maybe it was for good reasons cause this pizza is bomb!!! I did call to let them know and they offered to make a new one . I already started eating it so I opted out of the new one but the gesture alone has won my business. The staff is young and fun. Friendly from the time you enter until you leave. Very welcoming atmosphere couldnt tell who was the manager which in my opinion is a good thing. I ordered online so that I could quickly drop in and pick up a pizza. I was told the pizza would be ready 15 minutes after I placed my order. I showed up 20 minutes later and have been standing here waiting for 20 minutes and have never been acknowledged. My dog is waiting in the car and the service is useless. I finally asked to see if my order was received and it had been sitting there the whole time. The guy was rude and careless about it and now my pizza is cold. Mod pizza. Mod pizza is a delicious take on the quick and dirty pizza joint for upper-middle-class white women. They have the tiny ice cubes perfect for crunching on, And mostly nice friendly looking employees. One employee in particular went above and beyond to get us the precise and delicate pizza that we requested. Even with our unorthodox selection of toppings he/she/they was fully accommodating and respectful (I am unaware of the proper gender pronouns). The lighting was on point there was adequate light throughout the entire room at one point it was unclear whether there were lamps or lights but it was later decided that they were indeed lights. We came to the conclusion that lamps come from the floor and lights come from the ceiling. Speaking of lights was Jesus God or the son of God(or both). As a great philosopher Epicurus once said, Seek pleasure and the absence of pain. This establishment allowed me to pursue eudaemonia. The pizza was adequate.
