Upon entering it was very cute but cramped. There is nowhere to sit it's grab and go. I told them I had researched them and came all the way from Buffalo, New York to try their bagels as they are all gluten free which kind of garnered a little smile. I chose a slice of Margherita pizza and my husband chose a slice of pepperoni. We had them heated up and packed to go. We also picked up two egg bagels and two cinnamon raisin bagels, both of which I am carrying in my backpack on the way home today. The pizza was excellent the service not so much. I wished them well and hope they would succeed that wasn't met with much more than a very small Thanks. I think they would do better with more enthusiastic service and maybe the ability to have a few tables and chairs set up. I did also get a café Americano my husband got a pumpkin spice latte. Both were excellent. Edited to add: Had both the egg and the cinnamon raisin bagels - excellent and have the chew and texture of a wheat bagel - very tasty.

I had no idea this spot was gluten-free until after I read the reviews online. That being said, I have a different view of bagel now but I would 100% prefer a regular bagel over this. The bagel was thoroughly seasoned on both sides but the cream cheese was really gooey and melted off. Inside of bagel was dry and I threw out 1/4 of the bagel just because it wasn't tasty. I was a fan of the chocolate babka though as it was not too sweet and soft. All of their desserts looked super appealing.

We love discovering a new (to us) dedicated gluten free bakery. I've seen reviews stating that the staff were cold, but that wasn't our experience. We found them to be cheerful and very hard working - the place was very busy. The space is small with no seating but the variety was broad. There were several kinds of pizza by the slice, bagels, and all types of enticing sweet baked goods from donuts to cookies. My bagel was outstanding and my partner loved the Margherita pizza. I reduced by one star because their chocolate chip cookies were truly mediocre which was unexpected. Overall, though, we were very happy with our experience.

Vegan Bacon, Egg, and Cheese of the Superseed Bagel (V)

I've only been to the Chelsea location, so this is my first time in the UES location! I had the vegan bacon, egg, and cheese on the superseed bagel and it was delicious!! I'm amazed how this place offers BOTH vegan and gluten-free options. It was super flavorful and the vegan bacon was pretty impressive!! The service is a little slow as they have mobile orders at the same time and when I went, only one person cooking. I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush, but the food was really good! It's more of a to-go shop so there is limited seating! Overall great place and look forward to returning:)

Gluten-free baked goods, bagels and pizza in the UES. Kosher. I finally made it to one of their locations after receiving recommendations from several people, including some who are not gluten-sensitive! Takeout only (no seats). I am gluten sensitive and have been craving a donut during Chanukah. I had one if their special flavors - Black and White cookie - SI GOOD! I treated myself to a "bacon" egg and cheese on a bagel for lunch (I am a native New Yorker and I don't remember the last time I had a BEC and it made me so sad lol.) I had it on a plain bagel and it really got the spot! The "bacon" was perfectly crispy OMG. I was going to eat half and save the rest but ended up finishing it. I also got double chocolate zucchini bread - so good! Almost like having a brownie. My friend who is not gluten-sensitive got the special chocolate chip cookie dough babka. She enjoyed it so much that she ate the whole thing. I overheard one of the customers telling another customer that this place has his favorite gluten-free pizza. I was also told by an acquaintance that he loves the spicy feta open-faced sandwich. I am so glad I finally made it to one of their locations and can't wait to try more of their food in the future.

I came here becasue I'd been to the one in Topanga Canyon and I loved it. I wanted to love this one, but the problem is that they run out of food. When they are telling you that they run out of bagels by 10:30 am then, you know there's a lot going on. There were no bagels and they had some cheese bread upon which they could make a sandwich. At least, that's what they said. I'm not sure because I never saw it. The goods were the thin mint, the peppermint brownie, the blueberry bread, and the chocolate babka. So, I did have a couple of slices of the pizza and honestly, I could have passed. It just wasn't great. I did go next door and found some great treats. BTW, if you aren't going to put cheese on your pizza, don't bother. The white spreadable goo wasn't cutting it and it was the same on each pizza. The pizza's looked much better than they were ever going to taste. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, however, it's a huge problem when you are out of everything else. Something that I heard repeated to one customer after the next. The women working there were very, very nice and very helpful. I think I got a bit of an extra treat because of that. But, the woman was nice and I appreciated it. But, it wasn't enough to make an ok experience, stellar. And that's what I was looking for.

My boyfriend has many food allergies, so to find this place was a Godsend. They list all of their allergens both online and in front of their items. Raven helped us figure what to pick out and was incredibly helpful. She really made the experience that much better. Very kind and knowledgeable and accommodating. Will definitely be back to this location for not only the exceptional service but also the food! The food was excellent and you can't even tell it's gluten free. My boyfriend and I got quite the array of different bagels and pastries. As well as the pizza. We loved it all. It's a cute little shop and very warm.

SERVICE - located on the upper east side near the 77th street station - no indoor seating, take out only - interior is spacious enough for 10-15 people to stand - display of pastries and flatbreads - workers are friendly and helpful with menu suggestions - food served quickly - restroom located inside MENU - bagels, sandwiches, pastries, and other quick brunch items - all gluten free - vegan and vegetarian options - average price ($17 per sandwich) FOOD - vegan the big show (7/10): warm super seed bagel sandwich with scrambled just egg, melted vegan cheese, and a mushroom sausage patty. The modifications to make it vegan were $3 extra. Out of the warm breakfast sandwiches, this seemed to be the most flavorful vegan friendly option. I liked the texture of the mushroom patty and appreciated how it did not have an extremely artificial taste. The cheese on mine was concentrated on one end of the bagel. I ended up adding a good amount of ketchup on top for some acidity, and would have liked a hot sauce as well. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! The bagel was good for a gluten free and vegan option.

After a nice hot stroll in the area with my little brother and his wife we saw quite a few people inside and thought we should try it. The service wasn't the best, the cashier and the person gathering our items both seem to have a chip on their shoulder. The reason they might have been irked is because I asked what "Babka" was and where did it originate from? Had no idea it was originally from Poland & Ukraine and very popular amongst the Jewish community. All 5 items were really good, not too sweet or heavy. The line inside was unorganized people people ordering pizza, bagels, and pastries (like us). Next time I in NYC I will try a different location of theirs.

    Donielle M.

Great sweets. The pumpkin loaf was really nice and not overly sweet. There was a cinnamon swirl type pastry with cream cheese frosting that was far too sweet and a bit heavy (I don't recall the name of it, but I was told it's pretty popular). Service was good.

I haven't been able to have a bagel with Egg and Cheese on it in so long, and this did not disappoint! The staff was helpful in suggesting their favorite pastries, and when the wait for our breakfast sandwiches took a bit longer than planned, we were given free pastries, which was so kind! I cannot wait to go back in the future in any of their locations.

So nice to have a location on the UES now. Everything is gluten free. They have the best everything bagels. I often pick up 1/2 dozen to take to friends and family when traveling. They don't have a vacuum sealer like the UWS location, but they will put your bagels in a brown paper bag to keep fresh. Other notable faves here are the breakfast burrito. This location also has pizza after 11am. I found it tasty. It takes time to get your order here. Ordering ahead online is recently, but I order in person because online didn't have all the options for everything. A solid place. The UWS location is still my fave, but a few modifications and this location will be 5 stars.

Modern Bread and Bagel is settling in to their new location on the Upper East Side. The employees are very nice and I definitely loved the Everything Flagel and Jalapeño Cheddar Cream Cheese. I'm thinking it's a 3 and 1/2 Star overall rating but I'm being kind because I really enjoyed the meal. My issue is there's no seating! It looked like a lot of wasted space inside that could have had a counter and stools. The other issue is the June special was an Everything Flagel for $4.03. My receipt looks like I paid more. Very confusing how they tally the bagel and then add more for cream cheese. I will admit the total price is only about 60 cents more than my favorite bagel cafe near home. Due to the total inconvenience of eating a breakfast here I doubt I'll return very soon. I was very lucky that Eli's on 79th and Third Avenue let me sit at their table but it cost $4.36 for my coffee! If I find a park or public space to sit I'll be back. Today I wasn't prepared and I was HANGRY!! Oh Yeah, the pastries look delicious!!

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere that fits well with their comfort-food focused menu, and the dining room stays lively without being too loud, making it easy to settle in and take our time. The food here leans classic brunch, but there are enough options that make it stand out. The chicken and waffles are a must-try, with the crispy chicken paired with the sweet waffles for a satisfying balance that hits both savory and sweet notes in one plate. The lemon ricotta pancakes are another highlight, with a lighter texture and a nice flavor that does not feel overly sweet, allowing the ricotta to add a subtle creaminess. We also liked the pastrami hash and the latke with smoked salmon and poached eggs, which bring more savory options to the menu and give the brunch spread a bit more variety beyond the usual sweet offerings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are straightforward but well executed. One thing that stood out was how many dietary options were available, especially with clearly marked gluten-free choices across the menu. It made the experience feel more accommodating without making the menu feel overly complicated or scattered.
