Call me crazy but I like my chicken cooked. One's first indication the chicken is not cooked is when there is a pool of pink water on the dish. I sent the plate back, waited another 10 minutes and it came back the same way. Manager didn't come back to check on my undercooked food. Ate the dry potatoes and decent carrots. Thank god for cheap wine! Ran into the manager when we were leaving and showed her my 2nd plate of undercooked chicken. Here response: Huh. They temped it at 165. Huh...guess we won't be back. I'm rating this Modern Market against its former self. It used to be a fantastic location, with really good customer service and well-prepared food. I will admit that living very close by I was such a huge Modern Market fan I was in this location at least 5 times a week, and often more, for two or three years. Having been here so many times, I can honestly say it is no longer has good customer service or well-prepared food. It has consistently and noticeably degraded in the past year. The pizzas in particular have really become bad, with just the bare minimum amount of dough, sauce and cheese. The last one I ordered I brought home and was very disappointed by the sight of it and even more disappointed by the taste. I messaged Modern Market about it and never heard back. The standard menu items have slowly become more expensive as well, and now its borderline bad value. Last week I went in and two of the employees preparing food over the salad items had their mask covering only their lower lip and chin. Today I went in with a valid coupon emailed to me yesterday (said valid for 7 days) and was told, "um, its like, not valid anymooore?" Didn't even try to put the coupon code in, which the phone app had also allowed me to activate right there. I suspect that the rapid growth of the larger Modern Market company has required raising prices, cutting back on portions and caring less about quality food-preparation and customer service. Given all these examples, I might be done with this place, which is a shame because I was there biggest fan and probably best single customer for a while there. read more

I've become a big fan of Modmarket! Everything is very fresh and simple with great flavor and ingredients. Their Thai Coconut salad is my favorite item and the Farmer salad is also really good, as is their hand-tossed pizza. The fig and arugula pizza with goat cheese is the only one I've tried so far because I love it so much I can't branch out to try another! My only small issue is that the bread on the chipotle steak sandwich I ordered once was pretty hard and that made chewing a bit tiring. I also like that their packaging is all eco-friendly. A must-try if you're looking for something fast, fresh and delicious. The price is right in my opinion, given the large size of the salads and the quality of the ingredients. read more

In a world where we are so inundated with corn byproduct it is a welcome sight to see something other than the high fructose kings Coke and Pepsi. Imagine if fast food was actually good for you. Now imagine if it tasted good too and was not terribly expensive. That is NOT, I repeat, NOT ModMarket.....quite the opposite actually. The food my brother and I received was very inferior and inconsistent compared with the other foods that other customers had and with the food coming out of the kitchen. When we asked them to redo the order, they put too much raw onions on the pizza so it was inedible, don't get me wrong I LOVE ONIONS, but not when you end up gagging from the extensive smell and spiciness ( I guess ModMarket does care about your health by putting too many spicy onions, and giving portions that are way too small to make you gain weight). My brother and I felt as if we were racially targeted because we've been there many times with our friends and cilents and we NEVER got that kind of service/food, but management insisted it wasn't. So basically, if they weren't racially targeting us, the food that they did provide was terrible at an expensive cost. Better off getting a hot pocket at a gas station, at least hot pockets are consistent and inexpensive to EVERYONE. Oh yea, I give this place a "1" because the sodas were neat. read more

Discovered Mod Market a few months ago, and it has rapidly become a favorite when traditional restaurant and diner fare seems unappetizing and heavy. The effort they put into using fresh, natural ingredients pays off in spades while remaining inexpensive and quick to prepare. Service is always top-notch, and I can't ever say no Boylan's sugar cane soda on tap. Favorites run the gamut, from the chipotle steak sandwich to the margarita brick-oven pizza to the butternut squash soup. My wife, on the other hand, is a huge fan of the build your own salad. In summary I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you pick. In fact, just by writing this review I'm starting to lament that it's the middle of the night they're closed right now :( read more

Great food that's fresh, healthy and reasonably priced. Plus, they have a warm and modern interior that makes you feel comfortable while you're enjoying your meal. Their menu consists of a variety of soups, pizza, sandwiches and salads. All items are available in full or half size portions, and nutrition information is printed in an easy to read format right on the receipt. I've tried just about everything on their menu and nothing disappoints. Additionally, my 6 year old son loves their kid's cheese pizza. All in all, Mod Market is fantastic. Some of the food is locally sourced and organic, but this is not well publicized. The ingredients are more natural and less processed than at most places. The changing menu is nice, but some of the GREAT dishes such as the poblano pizza are greatly missed. It should be a regular item. We went to the nearby (and formerly good) Washington Park Grille and got very similar items for more than twice the price and the food sucked. Save your money and get far better quality food at ModMarket. Now for the MAJOR downside - the noise. Just like Racine's the designer/architect totally screwed up acoustically. The design is clueless. As been mentioned by other reviewers of ModMarket at other locations, all of the surfaces reflect sound so it is VERY uncomfortable to eat inside when they are busy. For this reason alone we never go to ModMarket or Racine's when we cannot eat outside on their patios. Too bad as we would love to go more often. In this location they also waste a huge amount of energy with a big outdoor gas fireplace with huge flames that provide almost no heat to the nearby tables. It is pure waste and inexcusable. And, the patio gets little sun as it is on the north as is the tall glass tower which just wastes lots of heat. While bad environmentally, these are probably primarily due to the landlord as the fireplace is shared with the restaurant next door. read more

My only complaint is what happened when I ordered at the cashier. She asked if I wanted a salad or chips, as if they came with the sandwich. I ordered the salad. I realized after I paid that she up sold me a salad without saying it cost more. I don't like that style of "customer service". For fast food, this is as good as it gets. The food is healthy. It's reasonably priced. And they make it fast. I love salads, especially their salads. They have a great variety of greens, a nice assortment of protein options, and some wonderfully favorful accents like caramelized onions, pungent cheeses and garlicy dressings. Their pizzas and sandwiches get a thumbs-up from my sometimes fussy son, who also likes their selection of not too sweet sodas. I like the calorie count and nutritional breakdown that is printed out on your receipt, and the real plates and utensils rather plastic and styrofoam that this green restaurant uses. In the overcrowded fast food market, this place is a very welcome addition, and in my book, the leader of the pack. read more

I've tried a few of their salads and a couple pizzas - but ever since I got the Goat pizza, I haven't been able to order anything else, so good. I've had lunch here twice now. The first time I went it was great and I couldn't wait to go back. The second time was just OK, so I figure that averages out to 'Yay! I'm a fan'. I ordered the same thing both times (1/2 Toscano Salad, 1/2 Eggplant Goat Cheese Sandwich). The first time, everything was perfect. The second time, there were some (minor) missteps. The salad had WAAAY too many cannellini beans. I love beans and they are good for you, but this was a ridiculous amount. Also the salad had significantly less prosciutto than it did the first time. The greens were super crisp both times, and the roasted grape tomatoes are very yummy. The sandwich was about the same both times, but the second time the red cabbage slaw that accompanies the sandwiches oozed bigtime into my sandwich. I asked for another piece of bread to replace the soaked bottom slice and they were very nice about that. Maybe they could put sides that are runny like that in a small bowl? But generally, the food is good and this place is a great for hot weather dining when you might not want something heavy for lunch. (I was wondering about their soup offerings, though, and why they had such cold-weather soups in June - green chicken chili, curried lentil or maybe split pea, and something else that had me wondering why they didn't have something like gazpacho, or a lemony spring vegetable...) read more
