Although I thought my hand and foot massages were great, the manicure and pedicure were not. My gel nails have bubbles and the guy nicked my cuticle. The hunt for my go-to manicurist continues. read more

My nail color and the color I chose came out completely different. She painted 3 coats, and I can see the different layers towards my cuticle because they weren't painted very well. My pedi came out just fine, the place is nice, clean and the women were all very nice but I still don't think I'll be back. read more

Be careful, I have been getting a pedicure every 3 weeks for over 15 years and I have never seen someone do what I just experienced. Unsanitary disgusting procedure (washed her tools and callous remover in the water my feet were in, then put the dirty paper towels she wiped all the grossness on in the water and proceeded to wipe my legs off with it, I felt like I was going to throw up). She understands English when it's convenient, so I spoke to the owner, she could care less. I gave her a 100 bill and asked her to charge me whatever she felt was fair, 37 to be grossed out and my pedicure not fully done. If she had been empathetic, said it won't happen again, I'll talk to her, all would be well and I would not be taking the time to post this. read more

Danny is extremely rude and does not do perfect gel nails (as he muttered over and over). After a horrible experience with him which the manager knew about, I was still charged $30 for the service. This place used to be my go to as all of the other manicurists I have had at the salon are friendly and do a great job. After the way management handled the situation, as well as Danny's unprofessional behavior, I will not be returning. Such a terrible experience and a total waste of money. read more

I love Modern Nails. I have been going here for the past few years and bi weekly ever since I moved back to Santa Barbara. Lynn is the BEST! She is quick and does a fantastic job applying and filling my nails. I have tried other nail salons and nothing/no one compares. The other employees have alway given the best pedicures too. It seemed a little hectic here as the place is huge and people were running around a bit mad. Prices are a little steep. I thought my lady did a good enough job. They pull their tools out of little packages so at least you know they sterilize. My pedicure started chipping just a couple of days afterwards though. read more

So, on my first visit here I was getting gel polish change/mani and a french tip pedicure. At first I thought it was pretty decent, but that changed when the recognition offered to fix a cracked nail so I didn't have to cut it. He "glued" it with I'm guessing a acrylic powder and then sprayed it with something that burned so bad I wanted to jump out of my chair. So I was a little unnerved the rest of the time. In the end, the pedicure looked good and the mani was ok, I was annoyed they used uv lights and not led as I wanted and asked. Less than a week though and the gel was worn and the color looked faded. So second visit, and my last! Gel polish change only and the guy was nice and offered to help with new color since the color I picked they were out of. Well, he filed my nails uneven, the color is lumpy and uneven on my nails and already bubbling and I had then done yesterday! I also noticed some pedi spa had liners and others didn't, some used uv lights some didn't. There's a serious issue with nail techs doing different setup here. I lasted for led and he said he couldn't do with the color. Well I specifically didn't want to use uv lights. I also got a infection/redness and irritation on my toe after here. Very rude service! I went there asked for a polish change for my hands and feet. The lady did my hand just did a very fast and bad job, after she is done I noticed that she missed few spots and I politely asked a adjustment, she looked very mad and impatient and spoke Vietnamese to her colleagues that I do not understand. After trying at least 6 other places that "still" do Silk, Lynn was by far the best in town. Her salon is also great for weddings,taking up to 12 mani/pedis at the same time. We unfortunately had a horrible experience at this nail salon. My mom went for a mani pedi and to get waxed. They took a painful hour and a half to wax her legs and had no idea what they were doing. While doing her pedicure they refused to do callus removal and spoke to us very rudely. My friend was treated unkindly as well. I like getting my pedicures here. They do a good job and have nice massage chairs. They do ask if you want sea salt scrub and your calluses removed every time. Its $5 extra for either. I don't see the point of the sea salt scrub cause they scrub your feet/legs anyways. Another weird thing is they ask if I have cash like they don't like taking credit cards. This has happened almost every time I go there. Other than that, I really like going here. Don't get the guy though he doesn't do as good of job painting your nails. Love this place! All the employees here are friendly and remember your name. They also maintain an upbeat & positive atmosphere and seem to help one another out eagerly, which I appreciate. Unfortunately it seems too many other salons in town have disgruntled employees and it's hard to relax and enjoy a pedi when there's bad energy and yelling. The space is large with a tasteful mural of Santa Barbara on the wall, and all the chairs and tools are clean. Prices are average in Santa Barbara. They allow my girlfriends and I to bring in champagne or wine for birthdays or just after a long day of work! It's always a good time and I've transitioned all my girlfriends to this place and now they're hooked. Cynthia is by far my favorite--she is very precise and has great attention to detail. Such a sweet woman, I highly recommend her! June is also great! :) The parking is not always the best, and I do recommend making an appointment, although they do walk-ins as well. read more

Third time here, and every time I've been in the chair within 5 mins of walking through the door. Everyone is nice. The place is clean and has a good atmosphere (for a nail salon). I've had the regular ($26) and deluxe ($36) pedicure and have felt the extra $10 for the deluxe is well worth it! My skin leaves feeling smooth and the soles of my feet are extra soft. I had my nails done here today in preparation for my wedding on Saturday. I loved every minute of the experience! The massage tables are very comfy, the pedicure tubs are very clean and the people who work there are lovely. They do an excellent job! Basic pedicure is $27. My friend got a gel manicure and as she was paying, noticed a small black dot on one nail. The girl who did her nails immediately rushed her back to the chair to fix it without making a fuss. Also, their massage oil smells like strawberries. read more

I've only had my nails done once before, so I don't have much to compare this experience to. I was a walk-in but I was helped immediately. Andy did my nails and did a great job. Unfortunately he did cut my finger while trimming my cuticles, which significantly lowered his tip. He was very apologetic and was quick to stop the bleed. The woman (I didn't get her name) who did my feet was great. She was careful to not scrub my calluses too hard and gave a great massage. I got the gel manicure and it looks beautiful! We'll see if it lasts the 2-3 weeks, which Andy promised. The price, $71 before tip, was a little steep and more than I thought it would be. Terrible Mani pedi today. I was a regular customer, but will not be in the future. They did not remove all of my previous polish, which was a darker color than I have now, so remnants of the previous color show through. They did not trim cuticles. The woman that did my pedi hurt my toes with her aggressive treatment. Go elsewhere. Unless you are a regular they give you to the novice. Utterly disappointed and will not go back. read more

Modern nails has changed my "nail life"!! I have the very worst nails ever given to any human being. Due to damage, some of my nails actually grow up instead of just out! Thanks to dear "Lyn" and her amazing staff, I no longer have to hide my hands in my lap when we go out or cleverly wrap my hands around my glass, so my nails are hidden from view - I'm no longer so ashamed of my hands and actually feel "nail pride" for the first time in my 60+ years of life! I went in without an appointment and was lucky enough to get Lynn, the owner, as my manicurist. I've been coming there ever since. They have taken care of my whole family throughout the years; including my husband, daughter, granddaughters, and even my mom. Lynn and her crew did my daughter and her bridesmaid (and me) for her wedding. It is a top notch nail salon; clean and very professional.
