I went here for a mani pedi. I think the lady was rushing because I came in at 6:15pm (although I had an appointment). My pedicure was fabulous and I love it. However my manicure is awful. It is uneven at the cuticles, the color isn't solidly spread over my nails, and she did not clean around the edges well. I would go back for a pedicure any time though. I may try another manicure if I get a different person. read more

Some of the nail technicians are a bit more detail oriented than others but all in all they do a good job. I usually have a 5 star experience here, but today's experience was terrible mainly due to one employee who was doing my nails. His name is Francis, and he took more than a whole hour to do gel manicure. One of the nails was broken, so that he had to attach a fake nail. He just tried and tried for 15 minutes, but was unsuccessful. Stop wasting time; move on to the next thing and let the owner (who kindly offered to fix it) to do it. He also kept constantly telling me to sit straight, which became very annoying even though I was already sitting straight. Then he started adjusting my chair at an uncomfortable height when my feet were no longer touching the ground. This was absolutely annoying because as a customer, I felt very uncomfortable. Also, please tell your workers NOT to ask people's nationalities ("where are you from?! But really where?!") It's rude! He then looked at me, asking: "Are you Mexican?" After I politely said "no," he kept pressing me to tell him. This is ridiculous behavior, and makes the customer very uncomfortable. I wish it was one of the girls doing my nails, who are always courteous and do their job well. Francis is the worst. read more

I hated my experience here,I'm here thinking good prices good pictures but not good people:/,me and my sister were seated and the lady she got had some tude you know and mine well very not talkative i was thinking oh its one of those pedicure days,were doing fine and towards the end my sister moves her feet and she like yelled don't move i look over and my sister looked upset,and then the one i had took a gas and it smelled horrible,how i knew it was her was cause she was the only one around me,they were demanding the money as if we were gonna run off,their very rude and they lady i had made my toe bleed (ill insert a photo) she pushed in my toe so much it made it bleed and she reacted quick i didnt notice and i look up like right after i felt it and im bleeding and she proceeded to paint my nails quick and she had no one after me.I will never ever come back here,sucks a lot. read more

Came home to visit my parents and my mom wanted to get pedicures together, sweet! We called ahead and asked specifically if two pedicures were available in a couple hours. Yes, they were, and we set a specific appointment time. And sure, when we show up they do have chairs available for us...across the room (the business is larger than most nail salons) from each other. We told them we had appointments, they shrug and tell us to come back later and I told them we'd be going somewhere else. Drove down the street to Today's Nails, they seat us right away and the owner remembered me from years ago when my mom and I used to get pedicures. Santa Barbara has a couple wonderful nail places that remember you and will ask you how school/college/work/life is and I made the mistake of trying a new place. Not going to try this place again. If you don't honor appointments, don't have them. read more

Went today, a woman did a good job on the toe nails but another person do my hand nails that looked terrible. Hard to see how the toes can be smooth and shiny and the nails are choppy. Wanted everything done to feet and hands but false advertised on there pamphlet. They say they don't have water to do sea salt on the hands. The person doing hand nails was nice but did it so fast you couldn't enjoy it. took him less then 20 minutes to do a luxury mani. And I had to have someone else clean up the nail polish off the skin. I got my nails done here for my wedding. It is very clean and the staff is very nice. I received a manicure/pedicure. The pedicure spa chairs have massage capabilities and feel great. I didn't like feeling pressured to upgrade the service I chose. Saying "no" one or two times should have been enough. They also don't disclose when the service they are selling costs more than the regular service. They just mention it casually (ex: do you want callous removal). read more

Couldn't find a salon open today (Memorial Day) but Modern was open. Made an appointment for 10, was taken on the dot. My tech was Ryan and he got right to work. This place is by far the best place to get your nails done in SB. The staff is great and Lynne does an awesome job. It is very clean and well maintained inside and out. Sad to write this review. I have been coming here for many years but the last few times I haven't had a great experience and my last visit was so awful and disappointing. seems like there is new staff that don't know what they're doing. I went in for a gel manicure and the nail tech directed me to some of their new colors, I picked out a neutral pink and after two coats it looked like there wasn't even any color on it.. I was going on vacation the next day and really wanted my nails to look nice. I asked if they could fix it to add more color, they got flustered and proceeded to add 4 more coats of gel polish onto my nails, instead of fixing the problem they made it worse! I had big globs of gel on my nails (including all around my cuticle and the skin above it). When I spoke to the manager and told her my problem she made excuses and pretend to not understand my concern. For the past couple years I've worked as a bartender where I was very hard on my nails/hands. The only thing that says on my nails is dip gel. However, my usual nail salon was closed for the holidays, so I ventured out to this salon. BIG MISTAKE. The man who did them was incredibly rude and condescending. The process of getting them done was not at all enjoyable. Then when he finished he repeatedly asked about his tip. To top it off, the top coat began peeling off and the gel chipped within days of the manicure- side note- I no longer bartend and instead work a desk job... I will not be going back to this salon. I just left after receiving a dip manicure. My mother got a pedicure & eyebrow wax. The manicurist did not let me know that 1) taking off my acrylics would be extra and 2) the nail style I had asked for was extra. On top of that, my nails are cut unevenly, the color is NOT what was shown to me, and the actual surface of my nails is not smooth but rather porous and also uneven. I was charged $65 for a manicure that costs me $40 anywhere else. Not informing a guest that you will be paying extra for something is unacceptable. And if I am going to be charged extra, I would expect the job done would be worth it. In addition, the removal of my acrylics was not done by soaking but by using a fake nail to separate the acrylic from my real nail. This was incredibly painful as I made clear the entire time. When asked why they were not being soaked off, I was told because it would "take 45 minutes." I would have gladly waited that long to have not been in that sort of pain. We all know how much it hurts when you break a nail. I am genuinely dissatisfied with my experience. The only reason I agreed to pay upon exit was because the young man at the register was not responsible for ANY of this & he was trying his best. I expect a refund or some sort of acknowledgement from the management because we did NOT receive that when in the store. read more

well, after giving it some time i decided to pass on my experience with this place, after receiving a pedicure here about a month ago- I recall the guy who provided the service speaking in his language in such a foul and unpleasant manner the whole entire demeanor and personality of the staff became appalled and embarrassed- the guy was VERY upset over ??? BUT this was God telling me to go to Modern Nails and i have no regrets. so clean, fast, and beautiful. the employees are so nice, warm, and welcoming. i am so obsessed with it the work they did for me, although a little pricey for a college student, it was seriously worth every penny. will definitely be coming back again! read more

It's been 2 hours since I left the salon and Im still thinking about what a horrible experience that was. The woman who helped me with a pedicure and a nail polish change was fighting with her coworker the whole time. Other employees kept trying to calm her down. I at one point asked if everything was alright. I wanted my pedicure to be relaxing and it was the complete opposite. Plus they over charged me! My mother had gone to this same salon earlier in the day and had a manicure and pedicure and they charged her the same price they charged me. In addition to that when I tipped her she made it clear to the girl she was in a fight with that it was her money. So awkward! read more

I went to Modern Nails a few weeks ago. The staff was really nice. My only issue is that a mani, pedi spa cost me $75 with tip. I did get gel nails and I know those are more expensive than a normal manicure. Over the phone I was quoted $26 for a gel maincure and when I went to pay they referred me to a sign that said $35 for a gel manicure. Overall I had a decent experience until it was time to pay, I am going to look for a cheaper nail salon. read more
