OK, Modern Plate! Went here on a double date last night and had a wonderful experience. Our food (shared apps: salmon toast, bacon wrapped dates, baked feta; I got the Chicken Milanese for my entree) was very good. Most notable, however, was the delightfully attentive service: our server, Joe, was fantastic - fun, funny, and upbeat. I hadn't been seated for more than a minute before he popped by our table to see if I wanted him to grab me a drink while I waited for my husband and friends to park. (I sure did ;)) He was back in a flash every time we'd asked for something and consistently reassured us that we should take all the time in the world as we decided what to order to eat, and whether we wanted dessert. We were comfortable from start to finish. I didn't catch the manager's name (but remember him stating he was a "Lincoln dad") - he was lovely, as well; checked on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and was genuinely appreciative of our decision to dine there. This location was occupied by several failed concepts before Modern Plate arrived and after the great time we had last night, I'm rooting for this place SO hard. So first off I have to give kiddos to our waitress Amy because she definitely set the tone for our first time dining here. Her whole vibe was amazing! She explained the menu and gave us some insight on how Chef Iran created it himself. Her recommendations were spot on with the flavor profiles we told her we typically enjoy. We started with the YiaYias wings which were delicious. The sauce is added right before they come out to the table which allows the wings to maintain their crispy texture and that's a huge plus. The tzatziki sauce is home made and does not disappoint. For the entrees we ordered the Garlic Shrimp pasta and the tomahawk pork chop. The pasta was very very good, perfect consistency and a very refreshing sauce that is also from scratch. The shrimp were nice and tender and you could taste that they are fresh not frozen. I ordered the pork chop medium and it was very juicy and tender. I did substitute the roasted veggies for the Brussel sprout side they offer and they were delicious. For dessert we had the Limoncello Tiramisu and it was divine. It's made from scratch and has this delightful top layer. Overall it was a great experience and we will most certainly be back. We were lucky enough to meet with Chef Iran before we left and he is so sweet. It's rare that you meet a chef who genuinely cares about you enjoying your meal entirely. read more

Beautiful new restaurant for downtown Elmhurst. Food was incredible. Tried the bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer, really good. Tried the Roasted chicken, so flavorful and huge portion. Also the exotic burger with all the meats in it, perfectly done! Lots of food and drink options to try. The house wine is by Canyon Road, we had the Merlot, so good! Food is really good. Loveeee the bacon wrapped dates and filet sliders. The real stand out here is the service. Bussers, managers and servers all great. They go above and beyond. I swear my daughter would drop something on the floor and someone would be there to pick it up within 30 seconds. I asked for a change in the drink I ordered and same thing... literally 30 second fix. Everyone was super friendly and a nice ambiance! Yum!! As an Elmhurst resident, I am always hoping for new and delicious places that will be successful. This was just that! The food was great and the menu was well thought out with many options. Everyone in my party loved what they ordered from the appetizers to a dessert. Drink menu and options were also extensive. Our server was great and many staff members came over to check on us (manager, other servers, hostess, barback/bus boy). The bar back continued to fill our water, clear our plates, and wipe things down. My group was commenting on the service and how attentive everyone was throughout the night. It was busy but we did not need to wait for a table which was nice and most likely due to the amount of space that they have. There is an awesome back room set up for live music. They really did a great job revamping the stage area to have more seating options and tables, new lighting, etc. I can't wait to come back for some love music! Not a good start - We made reservations and requested a booth in the bar. We arrived on time, but had to wait ten minutes for a table in the middle of the restaurant. Service was inconsistent. We received our appetizer before our drinks arrived. Then the server disappeared and we had to wait to place our meal order. Ambiance - very loud. We had a difficult time hearing each other let alone the server who had to yell to be heard. At least the food was very tasty. We shared the Mediterranean dip (hummus with lots of goodies on top). First time here. We were able to get an appetizer and a drink on their happy hour menus. We then decided to order dinner. We both got a handheld which came with one side so my wife asked if she could have something other than fries. The waitress said yes, and she picked au gratin potatoes and I picked brussels sprouts, to our surprise when the check came handholds were recorded as no sides and we paid full price for au gratin potatoes that my wife did not like at all only took two bites and $12 for Hey, small soda bottles. When I questioned the waitress, she said oh, I should've explained that to you. Also, my wife ordered a pot roast sandwich with no cheese, but it came with cheese. They did do a good job of remaking the sandwich correctly. Food overall was pretty good, but this left a bad taste and I would be returning any time soon. read more

Let's start with the good. The food here was dynamite. I had a burger and truffle fries and my wife had a sandwich with sweet potato fries. Both were excellent and came out fast. Spicy old fashioned was also tasty. Unfortunately didn't get any pics but the food was excellent. The issue I had was we had a reservation (at 530 on a Saturday) and they sat us at a high top table in the bar area. When we asked if we could sit on the restaurant side, we were told that they "have every table double booked and they're very busy tonight". Half the tables in the restaurant part were open, we had made a reservation and were there pretty early in the evening (we eat early like old people). Yet we were forced to eat at a high top table in the bar (not even offered a booth in the bar). I could see if we were walk-ins, but we did have a reservation. The person working the host stand seemed young and new and overwhelmed, so not sure I totally blame her. Service was quick but still seems like they're getting their footing, which we can understand since it's relatively new. In a group of 15, the restaurant was a first time visit for 13 of us. To start, the atmosphere is high energy, the decor is a clean modern edge. Menu has great variety and is well-priced. Everyone raved about their choices- from the short rib risotto to the salads to the burgers to the bacon-wrapped meatloaf. Very happy customers! Eric was our first contact with staff when we checked in for our reservation. Friendly, courteous, and focused on making our reservation as accommodating as possible. Perfect! Amy was our server and a total rock star! She was attentive and personable and totally created a fun and upbeat vibe. She completely reorganized our tab to meet the needs for family checks with a smile and a reassurance that should anything need adjusting, it would be no problem. We wish every server was like Amy. Hands down the best slider trio I have ever had. Regular cheeseburger was terrific. Buffalo chicken with blue cheese was outstanding. But the winner was the pot roast slider. Wow.
