I have been a loyal client of this salon for approximately five years, visiting every 10 weeks for highlights and a haircut. Because of that history, what happened on Saturday was especially disappointing. During my appointment, the salon owner's mood and behavior toward me were unacceptable. He has always been somewhat abrasive toward me, and I have often tried to avoid interactions with him. Saturday was the final straw. During my appointment, he spoke to me in a rude and belittling manner, which led me to calmly ask to be left alone and set a boundary. Instead of respecting that request, he returned and yelled at me in front of other clients and staff. The yelling continued for several minutes. I remained calm throughout the interaction, but I was embarrassed and shocked by how the situation was handled. I was concerned for my safety the remaining of the appointment. After years of being a loyal customer, I never expected to be treated in that manner. Professionalism and respectful communication should be the standard, regardless of what may be happening personally or professionally behind the scenes. As a result of this experience, I will no longer be supporting this business or its owner. The lack of professionalism, respect, safety and lack of accountability displayed during this interaction was deeply disappointing and does not reflect the level of service I expect from a business I have supported for many years. I have decided, unfortunately, to find a new salon. I will genuinely miss my hairstylists, Helen and Nina, who have always treated me with kindness and professionalism. They are talented, caring, and were a major reason I remained a loyal client for so many years. read more

I made an appointment for a simple haircut for my birthday at 1pm with Sue. She waited until 2pm to tell me to go to the shampoo station where I learned the wait would be at least another hour. Other stylists came up to me and asked what time was my appointment and did nothing about it. When I heard how long the wait for the shampoo would be I had enough and decided to leave. I approached Sue and told her I'm leaving and she offered the fakest apology as she continued to do the same girls hair she was doing since before I arrived. Tip: If you have someone scheduled for an appointment, maybe you should prioritize them and plan better. Horrible service. I usually cut my hair at home but came here because my sister recommended this place. I saw Sue and was super nervous because I usually am not happy with haircuts done at salons. This was NOT the case. I showed Sue an example picture and asked her for lots of movement and face framing layers, and she DELIVERED. I went to Modern Salon for the first time today for a cut, shampoo and styling. I wear my hair short and a good short cut is essential because a bad cut is truly too easy to see. Manny cut my hair and I got a great cut and then he handed me off for styling "a sassy" blow dry. Usually I have to re-do the styling when I get home because no one seems to understand my idea of "sassy" until today! I was thrilled with the whole experience at Modern! I came here for the first time and made an appointment over the phone, but when I got there they acted like they had to squeeze me in. The place looks nice and all but once I got in the chair the stylist acted like she knew what I wanted after showing her pictures and describing what I wanted.i ended up leaving with a uneven bob with choppy layers. BLONDES BEWARE! I went last week for highlights and the girl left me under the heater FOR AN HOUR!! SHE MELTED OFF ALMOST 1/2 MY HAIR then tried to hide it. Before I even said anything as she was brushing giant clumps of my hair out she said "your hair is long and all I did was touch up the roots". I asked her to stop touching my hair because she was trying to brush as much out as possible so I wouldn't see. She then told me she needed to go get a towel and went to the back and emptied her brush - so I wouldn't see the pile of hair she had in it (which I saw as she walked away). *Shame on me* didn't know what to do so I told her I had to go get some treatments and try to fix her mess and she took me to the front and charged me $115!!!! Yes, she charged me after melting 1/2 my hair. Now I'm being told most salons don't even use heat with bleach because of the damage it can do and she put me there for an hour while she tended to other clients. DON'T TAKE YOUR CHANCES. I spent an additional $90 on a haircut to try and snip off the fried parts + another $80 on Olaplex at Sephora to treat what was left so it maybe won't break off in the coming weeks. Adding that she also got bleach all over the neck/back of the shirt I was wearing so that's ruined as well. read more

the woman who cut my hair did a terrible job. She had 3 different girls working on my hair such as washing, drying, hair straightening and styling. I asked to get it thinned and have a "V" cut. It came out totally uneven. She didn't even have her own supplies she was running across the salon grabbing other supplies off of the other tables. I use to come here all the time but now they just have different girls working for them and they don't put in any effort. I don't recommend coming here. read more

My time here was an absolute nightmare. I was excited to try out this place because of the goods reviews. But when I saw my hair I was completely disappointed. The lady who was cutting my hair completely went in her own mind and messed up my hair. She cut the layers in accordingly to the picture I showed her, and in the end it looked like messed up layering. On top of that, she charged me 50 dollars for a haircut I could've gotten by an inexperienced person. This place is absolute trash and the lady who cut my hair should lose her hairstylist license. I told the stylist working on my hair I wanted to even my hair out so no layers and they couldn't do a simple hair cut. I had to ask him to fix the choppy layers that they gave me that I didn't ask for then when it was time to pay the lady in the front which knows I didn't like my hair cut. This place is disorganized. When you call and make an appointment for 2:30, you have an expectation to be seen within maybe 15 minutes. It was Saturday so I figured it would be closer to 20. Be prepared to have your expectations fail miserably. After 30 minutes I asked how long it would be. I hadn't been greeted, hair washed, or anything. The guy who was pretending to be the leader said "oh right now she's finished", had another girl sit down in her chair. So I asked for the manager. They apparently don't have one. Which makes sense seeing how it's a organized like a crap sandwich. People who were in my general vicinity said it was normal for a wash and cut to take over two hours. Two hours?! Are you joking? Why do you keep paying a place who has club music booming (I'm young but this makes me sound old) in the background and cannot see you near an appointment time? Completely ridiculous. I cannot comment on a haircut because I didn't receive one. This is based in the girl who schedules the appointments and her lack of being able to explain why they aren't more prompt. Based on what everyone has said, I sincerely hope you stop going here. At least until they can get some semblance of organization and more prompt times when making an appointment. Heed my advice. Avoid this place unless you have around 3 hours to kill. read more

After showing Jessica a picture what I wanted done to my hair, her work was terrible, my hair did not look anything like the picture. I requested highlights, she only gave me highlights on the back right side, on the left side I did not have any highlights. Everything that was done to my hair was a disaster and didn't turn out like the picture. I did call the salon and they offered to fix it but if you know about hair once you go dark and they have colored your hair you should not apply anything to your hair within the first 24hours, your hair will ruin. HORRIBLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL If I could give 0 stars, I would. The wait time was ridiculous even though I made an appointment. This is usually forgivable as I understand that appointments fall behind. Hairdresser was decent, but seemed to be in a bad mood. Again, fine. We don't need to be friends or friendly, but a smile goes a long way. I guess because they were so late with my appointment they tried to rush me out so they had THREE people drying my hair. I guess that would have been ok except one girl stabbed me in the eye with a hair brush, DID NOT APOLOGIZE AT ALL, but instead simply put it down and walked away. I went in to this salon as a first time client judging by the looks of the place it seemed like they knew what they were doing. Well when I go to my "appt" they tell me sit at any open seat someone will be right with me. They don't assign you to anyone when you make an appt unless you know who you want they don't have levels of stylist to choose from like most places so there's really no point in making an appt. So I meet the "stylist" and told me her name (can't remember her name) she is a heavy set middle eastern women with accent. So I showed her a picture of what I wanted bc I always come prepared to my appt so they know what I want, so I told her I wanted an ombré. I have dark hair so I picked an ombre with darker blonde bc I knew it wasn't going to lift completely which she also mentioned which I was fine with. So when she started with my hair I noticed her doing a freehand bayalage technique total opposite of an ombré she mentioned that she was doing a "different technique" bc it's faster. I trusting the hairstylist that is certified in doing hair let her continue. Now I'm no expert in ombre but I have gotten ombré in the past ALL places doing the same technique tease up and apply the bleach, so as we finally finish with the whole process I go to wash my hair they add the toner and go straight for the cut which btw came out decent can't complain. Then someone else came to curl my hair when you have an ombré everyone knows you do loose curls well she started doing curls that I ended up looking like Annie. I paid my 120 that I was quoted and went home upset bc she gave me tight curls I went home washed my hair so I can see the actual finished product dry and straightened as I started drying it I started noticing spot/splotches throughout my hair, the color was not one color it was different parts different a blondes where my hair didn't lift correctly and the toner didn't help I looked like I had highlights and instead of it looking blended it look like uneven lines throughout my hair. Next day I went back and asked for a manager to get a refund on my hair just the color not the cut and a lady came back and said they weren't here what did I need. She was very rude didn't want to hear what I had to say...I showed her the spots in my hair I showed her everything that was wrong with my hair and had no care in the world.She refused to give me a refund and told me they don't do refunds that they can only fix it. I told her I used my day off to come in to get it done I can't come back again. When I do have time I'm gonna go to my original hair stylist, but I'm not trying to pay double. She continued to be rude cut me off and tell me no refunds. I asked for her name and she refused to give it to me, she said she didn't have to give me her name. At the end I never got to talk to a manager I asked for his name and number and she gave me a business card with the salons number and stylist name on it. The fact that they would let a client walk out with their hair looking like that is horrible for their business and the client. Two people saw my hair before I checked out and didn't say anything not even that there was something wrong with it and just let me leave . Horrible customer service and they have no organization and no etiquette in this type of business. I will NEVER go there even if it was the last place on earth. Businesses like that are so quick to take your money but won't own up to the mistakes and give you your money back when a client is dissatisfied with their hair. People seriously think or do your research before going to this place bc they will mess up your hair and not care since they have your money not even an apology. read more

Absolutely awful experience. I walked in asking for a specific color. Walked out in tears because it was not even close to what I asked for. I called next day asking for a refund. The salon policy is no refunds. Asked to have the owner call me. Three days later I had to call myself. He told me he would be there today. I drove out of my way to go talk with him. He wasn't there when he had just been there an hour before. The stylist cuts my hair beautifully. I'll give her that. I proceeded to say what I had asked for and to stay super blonde. My hair looks grey. All she wanted to do was act like it was my fault. I was then surrounded by 6 stylists making faces, laughing, making me feel bullied and like I was dumb. Then the manager stepped in, gave me a huge attitude, raised her voice, ended up walking off rolling her eyes. I left in tears and feeling like I was bullied by people who were supposed to make me feel better. I'm the customer. I will never go there again. They treat clients like a number. It's my hair. Not just another $150 you made. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. read more
