First off we have been customers of this establishment for 10 years. Used to recommend anyone to go there for a car or for the service. They used to be the best around. That is until a few years ago I started having problems with the customer service. It was going down hill fast. I miss the old family oriented type of environment. It's no longer there anymore. They just want your money and they don't care about the customers. The salesman, the managers to the service people it's awful. And most recently we had an experience just a few days ago we tried to purchase a car with a trade-in and we were denied with little to no communication and waited over five hours. I will never go there again. I literally cannot stand that place. We took our car to a different Subaru in the Bay Area and were treated with the best excellent customer service you could have. Went here with a little sound coming from my car and needed it looked at, the associate named Al was friendly and very service oriented. Initially was going to charge me $135.00 for the diagnosis of the issue... I sat in a really clean nice lobby for about 35 minutes ( they provide complimentary Starbucks) and Al came out showing me a Little Rock they found wedged in a weird place in my car causing noise. I asked him how much is the charge? And he said there would be no charge! Super nice! I will most likely go back here for future work read more

Made an appointment for the finalization of an oil consumption test on our 2018 Crostrek - was told that a certain manager would be there. We get down there check in and asked for two different managers was told that one no longer works there and the other called out earlier that week. The one that Called our didn't pass on any info to the MOD. The dealership didn't even bother to call us to reschedule or let us know that the manager called out. This car/dealership has been a headache from day one. They got all our mailing info wrong, list documents and wouldn't return our calls. I love driving a manual transmission but come November I'm going back to the "dark side" and getting a Dodge Truck. I've grown up Mopar and should have NEVER gone away. #subarusucks read more

My wife went into Modesto Subaru dealership and there were 11 employees there where non of them acknowledge her at all. No greetings, no hello, nothing. From female employees just talking amongst themselves to the general manager Reggie White not saying anything. There were a few customers in there and two employees were helping them but the rest just walked by or walked away. My wife stood there for about 5 minutes with no acknowledgement. She then proceeded to ask if someone can help her in a stern voice. Then someone said they can help her out. She needed a part where a lady finally helped her get the part. She told my wife "sorry she had to wait"in a sarcastic disgusting way. She proceeded to tell my wife to just " read the directions in an annoying tone. Now understandable if everyone was busy but 9 out of the employees weren't including the general manager. How do you ignore a customer? The employees then started to give her a look or stare down which is not professional. The employees made her feel like she was not welcomed there. Sorry if she interrupted the employees from talking with each other or ignoring her. This was a very bad experience. This was not the first time we felt this. Our friend went in a few years ago to purchase their car they had the same bad experience and left to go buy their Subaru from Maita and we went and got ours from Roseville. Just because you might be the only Subaru close by in the Modesto area doesn't mean people won't drive to sac or Bay Area for better service. You have to remember you are in the people business. You might be selling cars but you need people to buy cars. They pay your wages from parts to service to sales. If I can give less than a star I would. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! Modesto Subaru is a joke. Drove from merced to Modesto to get a diagnostic for our Subaru. They told us the "issues" so we spent over $1200 to get it all fixed. The same lights came back on so we called them and told them, so they agreed to give us another diagnostic for FREE. On our appointment day, we drove again from Merced to Modesto for them to tell us, they would NOT give us a diagnostic for free, even though they made an appointment for a "complimentary diagnostic". I had to write a long review, I felt it was only fair to do so. I don't take the time to do this, but I had to give credit where credit is due. I purchased a 2016 WRX over a year and a half ago but put 48,000 miles on it during that period due to long commutes to the Bay Area. My release bearing (Throw-Out Bearing) was making a lot of noise, and my steering box was also making a lot of noise. After my car was diagnosed by Modesto Subaru, it was concluded that it needed a new clutch throw-out bearing, and a new steering rack. The only problem with that was; my warranty had expired at 36,000 and only the engine and transmission were covered up to 60K miles. I spoke with Nelson Peterson, the sales manager that had taken good care of me when I purchased the car. He said he would try his best to have the dealer cover the expensive repairs at not cost. Nelson spoke with Carl Hansen, the service manager and Carl told me that he wouldn't promise anything, but he would try to cover it at no cost. A week went by and I received a call from Carl telling me that he had ordered my parts, and the dealer would cover the repair costs at no charge. I was so happy to hear this and felt that both Nelson and Carl truly treated me like a valued customer, and really cared about long-term relationship not just one time sale. The repairs were made, I was given a brand-new loaner car (Forester) and didn't pay a cent for all this. Daniel Di Dio (Dan) was also very nice to me and kept me posted throughout the process. I can't say enough about this dealership and the staff, I have never ever experienced this level of great customer service. The repairs were over $2K and didn't pay a cent. They could've easily told me that the warranty was expired and they couldn't do anything about it, instead they earned a loyal customer for life. This is the most honest and caring dealership I have ever dealt with and I have been leasing, and buying cars since 1999 and have dealt with many dealership in the Modesto area. Modesto Subaru is where I will go for my next car. Thank you Nelson and Carl and everyone that made this possible. I love you guys and love my WRX. read more

I bought a car from a local Subaru dealership. I found myself a used car that I like a 2012 Subaru Impreza wrx with 93,000 miles on it. When I was checking out the car I noticed that the check engine light was on. The car sales man (George Kramer) that was helping me took the car to their mechanic then cleared it all up. He said it was just an engine misfire, he made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. Later that day I bought the car. Fast forward 5 weeks or so the check engine light turns on, took the car to my friends house cause he had a scanner I could use. I Plug in the scanner and the code was P0301 and P0303. My friend cleared the code. But one of the code says it was permanent. It couldn't be taken off unless you prove the computer that the problem was fixed. The next day I took my car back to the dealer to have them fix it. 2 or 3 days later I called them and gave me an update. They said they couldn't find the problem so they were going to take out the engine and see if the problem was there. The fix falls into the 3 month warranty the car had when I bought it. My problem is that Subaru won't lend me a loaner car, because the car didn't have an extended warranty, the cost of fixing the car could be 2-6k$ and the local Subaru dealer had to foot up the bill, that's what the service department (Nick Trejo)told me when I was asking for an update. It's been a total of 20 days since they have had my car. The last update on the car was when they told me on the 2nd or 3rd day that they were going to take out the engine and have it check. And I'm struggling with transportation. After 20 days I finally got the loaner car. Update: Modesto Subaru has had my car for 3 months now! Modesto Subaru has had my car longer than I've had it. Modesto Subaru is being super slow! They found out what's wrong with my car 3 weeks ago, they shipped out the part to get it fix. A week later they got the car part back. Now they just need to put the engine back together. That was what Nick Trejo the Subaru service department told me 2 weeks ago. I called them last week and they haven't had any progress. I called them this week and they haven't done ANYTHING since getting the car part back. They keep making excuses and excuses. My car should be first priority since it's been there since December 17 2018. Bring a scanner when you buy a used car from Modesto Subaru, if I had done that I wouldn't have this trouble. read more

Knew we wanted a 2020 forester. Worked with Wayne to negotiate a competitive price, he was very pleasant to work with and ultra responsive. Went in yesterday to buy, Wayne was not working late so he handed us off to Jesus to execute the sale. I was nervous the price we were quoted wouldn't be honored (or some other shenanigans) but the process was painless. Jesus was very friendly, took us for a test drive at our request and knew way more about the forester features than sales folks at a handful of other local dealerships (they would always say "we can look that up online," during test drives, how do you sell cars without understanding even the basic features????). We were offered upgrades and warranties but nothing was shoved down our throats and no one gave us a hard time for politely declining, which I definitely appreciated. Anyway, first time new car buyer who bought from carmax last time to avoid the car buying high pressure/game playing song and dance, and the whole team at Subaru Modesto was awesome! My previous review caught the attention of management. I received a call within hours to discuss the issues. They were very responsive to my criticism and suggestions. What I had experienced is not the norm for them. But I was frustrated and I'm sure that came through in my review. The purpose of my phone call was to inquire about an appointment for an oil change. That particular day I couldn't get through to anybody. But...had I known what I know now the whole problem could have been avoided. A couple of months ago, the dealership started an Express Lube service. NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED! Yippee...I love that. I like taking my car in on the spur of the moment if necessary and not have to make an appointment days in advance. Well, now I can do that! Thanks, Modesto Subaru. I asked for a quote on a Forester through their website. Mike Waller replied within an hour, which I thought was fast. My wife and I liked the price and I e-mailed him again asking if there are additional fees aside from tax, title, and license. I also asked him for his schedule as we were ready to drive down to Modesto (over an hour drive) to make a purchase. Over a day went by and no reply. I asked again the following day as a follow-up and no reply. It has been a week now and no acknowledgement of my e-mail. Instead of waiting for him to reply, my wife and I went somewhere else and got the car we wanted. They were able to match and beat Mike's price. If he went on vacation, it would've been nice if he handed us over to one of his co-workers. If the car sold, it would've been nice if he told us. (Or maybe...Modesto's e-mail server was on the same server as Hillary's and my e-mails got deleted). 2 stars for a quick initial reply and a good price on the quote. read more

We went in to look for a 2015 Legacy. But they didn't have the trim we wanted. The sales lady told us they were "selling like hotcakes" and would call us back if one came in. A couple weeks later, we checked again and they still didn't have it so we moved on. The reason for the 2 stars is because the sales lady was incompetent. When I mentioned the poor car audio and no rear air vent, she didn't mention that the trim we had wanted would have Harman Kardon speakers and rear air vents. When I mentioned that the low-fuel indicator light was on before the test drive, she ignored the warning AND WE HAD TO WALK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP when the car ran out of gas during our test drive. Here are some other misc. tips for car buyers: 1. Go to nadaguides.com to see the invoice price of the car you're buying (and the accessory packages). Invoice price is the price that the dealer pays the factory for the car. This is contrasted to the MSRP (the sticker price). The car we ended up buying came with "Popular Package #1", which is not even listed on the Subaru Website, but is shown on nadaguides. 2. Subaru cars sold in California are required to get the PZEV Package (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle). 3. The sales tax on the car is dependent on where you live, not where you buy the car. So the reviewer that came from SF to Modesto to buy a car paid 8.75% tax (SF) not 7.6% tax (Modesto). 4. Test drives from this Auto Mall DO NOT go on the freeway. You drive on Pelandale, Coffee, and Sylvan. We drive on the freeway a lot so this test drive route was inadequate. In the end, we bought a car from the Subaru in Livermore. Many of those sales people are from Modesto and they have a much larger inventory and better sales numbers. Coincidentally, parking is very hard to find at that dealership. read more

Went to Modesto Subaru because they had listed a used car that I was interested in. Because we were traveling from out of the area, we called first to make sure the car was still there. Yes, we were told, it was there. We arrived at the dealer at 12:30pm. Guess what, no car. The manager had taken it home, it was his demo car, how convenient. Why could they tell us that? Plus, it was two hours since we had called, why couldn't they have gotten it there by then? The manager on duty said it would be there in an hour. We drove around for an hour, looked at other dealerships. Came back, still no car. We should have left, really, we should have. The car shows up 15 minutes later, we took it for a test drive. It had 2000 more miles on it than advertised, many of the amenities that they advertised were not on the car, and the manager was a bit of a douche. We decide to make an offer based on the add'l mileage and lack of amenities advertised. Turned down, we said, ok, give us all of the personal information that we gave you and we'll be on our way. Wait! How can we make sure we sell you this car today!?! Well, since you made us wait, you lied to us about the car being here, and misrepresented what was actually on the car, why don't you give us the price we offered, for all of our trouble? No can do. Finally settled on a price, still a good deal, they didn't lose any money like the manager claimed - noone is going to lose money on a car, duh. It then took 2 hours from the time price was agreed upon until we left the dealership. TWO HOURS. Completely unacceptable. We were there from 12:30pm until 5:15pm. Save yourself the time and the trip to Modesto Subaru and go somewhere else. There are plenty of car dealerships on McHenry Ave. read more

I was initially communicating with George via email; however, he was out of the office for a few days. Nevertheless, Lapon stepped in and kept the communication going. After asking all the questions we could of thought of asking, we were able to close the deal. I explained my current situation to Lapon, which requires me to find a person to drive me to Modesto from South Bay (1.5 hours) to pick up the new vehicle; however, Lapon was able to surprise me with a message, that George was on his way to deliver my car to me in person. Bought a used Toyota Prius here in October. The salesman, John, was fantastic. Hands down the best car buying experience I have ever had. John made us feel instantly at ease from the start and even told me to drive faster during the test drive! It made for a very easy going time that is usually stressful and full of pushy salesmen. They worked with me on the loan application and the price point was perfect for the car. A sticker for a lower price was accidentally left on the window from a weekend sale, so I ended up getting about two grand off an already low price because of that. I love my Prius and haven't had a single issue with it, but if I ever want a Subaru I will definitely make the drive to purchase one here! read more

For example, we call to see if the car we want was in (Sunday), because it is a 45 minute drive from our house. They say yes, and we get here and its not here. A customer has it. They will bring it the following day, so even though it was a let down we were excited. So now im here (Monday), waiting in the lounge... and the car not ready till tomorrow. I couldn't be more annoyed then i am right now. Its a 45 minute drive. Our schedule is way to busy to be here on a Monday night. They said we can take one of their cars home tonight though. I really want to give this place 5 stars but we had a few issues at this subaru So my boyfriend and I wear driving from sequoia to Napa (we were on vacation drove from inland empire so cal, to sequoia then Napa was next) & our motor gave out on us on the freeway around 2 On Saturday afternoon. We got to the dealership and the car couldn't be fixed until Monday or Tuesday. In the mean time we were stranded out there & enterprise was closed but one of the workers there offered to drive us to the nearest motel. Thank you so much you saved our lives! So unfortunately we had to stay until Monday morning and we got a rental and drove back home. They said they would call us as soon as it was ready but we didn't receive any calls so we called several times leaving messages and trying to get hold of anyone. Come Thursday morning still no answer. We had to call Subaru customer service and they had to call this place in order for us to receive any update about our car if it was even ready or if they had even started working on it. They said it was ready and we could come pick it up, mind you that we had to drive 6+ hours just to get there. So we arrived back in Modesto Friday around 2:45-3 pm and our car was still being worked on they said it was pretty much finished we needed to wait until 4:30. Thankfully we got our car back around 5. I'm not one to complain I understand how these things take time, but a phone call would have been nice or any attempt of an update, not only because we weren't even from this area but we had to drive so far (I know it wasn't there fault) but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have updated us at all if it wasn't for Subaru customer service stepping in. All in all we are thankful that they were more then welcome to shuttle us to and from our motel and made us feel comfortable after our vacation fail. I was on a road trip with my 2-day old car, when I ran over a nail, which became embedded in the sidewall. Fortunately, I had purchased a tire protection plan, so all I had to do was find a Subaru dealer --which turned out to be 35 minutes from where I was staying. Modesto Subaru was superb through the entire process. Knowing that I was on the road, they contacted the my dealer to get more information about my purchase. Everyone --receptionist, service, and the sales people who chatted to us as we waited, was considerate and efficient! They didn't even mind my dog --who traveled with the kids and I. We found a water bowl waiting for him, and dog biscuits. The facility is well tended and clean, as well. Would highly recommend, and am very grateful that they responded quickly knowing we were on a road trip! read more

I took home my first Subaru yesterday! I initially went to the dealership only because of the overall safety ratings for Subaru vehicles. I was recently in a head on collision, not my fault, that totaled my previous car. As you can imagine, safety was at the top of the list for my search. I stepped onto the dealership and was able to look without being stalked by 20 freaking icky sales people, which happened at a few other dealerships... Brittany, the sales rep, approached me after an appropriate amount of time. Brittany was super excited and knowledgeable about each of the different types of cars on the lot and asked questions about my lifestyle which helped her "fit me" with the forester and crosstrek hybrid. Ugh (in a good way), I loved both cars!! Once you drive a subaru its hard not to like it!! Brittany did a FANTASTIC job explaining all of the features of each of the two cars. She did so with clear passion and enthusiasm, you know, without all those cheesy sales lines so I didn't feel like I was getting a sales pitch; Brittany's genuine interest in the cars totally transferred to me during my comparison of the vehicles and test drives; I knew I was going to buy one of the two! I had to sleep on the decision, basically because I couldn't choose between the two subaru's and it was a totally different direction then I thought I would go with this purchase! Brittany totally understood and continued to answer all of my questions about the two cars via phone or text message well into the night and early the next morning. Ultimately, I purchased the 2014 Forester the next day and I am super excited! Nelson and I worked on the price for a while but I really felt like he did everything he could to make it happen and to get me into the forester. Overall a great experience. Let's be honest, Subaru's sell themsleves. Consumer Report's Best of the Best auto maker, and probably the most reliable, safe, and eco-friendly car produced. But not all Subaru dealerships are the same. After a long search for an Outback, throughtout the Bay Area and Central valley, the wife and I were very pleased with our experience at Modesto Subaru. Frank, Anitoli, and Nelson went above and beyond what I would expect any dealer to do. After searching for the ideal car for my family, Nelson actually allowed me to take the car home for the night since my wife was home with our baby. That really impressed me, along with their great staff, Frank, Anitoli and John, their great selection and very good prices. There is a reason this business got another FIVE STARS! When I called to the service department, the Service Manager Mark's response was different from others. He got the VIN of my car and called me back to make sure that I can get the extended warranty service by a settlement for two bad wheel bearings. Other Subaru Dealers ignored my requests to check the above info, but Modesto Subaru explained me the option I can take to replace two bad wheel bearings under the extended warranty. (Saved min. $1,000) When I went to the dealer, they checked all other areas and recommended services to avoid future problems. No rush & push,....but just sincere advice. I am glad to find this great dealer shop (especially Servbice Department) in the Central Valley. My future car is Subaru Tribeca. I already made up my mind where I should buy it.
