I am a huge fan of CRG restaurants but Modita really fell short for me. The ambiance was fantastic, service was attentive, but I expected the food to be a lot better than it was (especially for the price & it being CRG). The bao buns were fantastic, I will say. Definitely set my expectations high. The pork soup dumplings were so so. The Abura Soba, what had been described to me as brothless Ramen, was the huge disappointment of the night in that it completely lacked flavor. It honestly tastes like a dish I could've made at home (which is not a good sign). Every time I go I am never disappointed. Whenever there are occasions to take a group out in Modita is my go to. Their bao buns are my single favorite Dish in Indianapolis. I had been wanting to try this spot for a while. And it was worth the wait. The only issue was that there were only two of us so we didn't order as many of the items on the menu that we wanted to try. But it gives us a great excuse to make it back soon. I had a sushi roll that the chef suggested. We split an appetizer and my husband loved his bao buns. The location is prime within the bottle Works complex. We came here for a special celebration as our second visit to Modita. The first time we came, we were half and half on the dim sum, loved some and wouldn't order others again. Instead of going for dim sum and to try something new, we started off with the Miyazaki A5 Waygu to share, and this was unbelievably decadent. I was so sad when we cleared the plate! For entrees we ended up splitting the Tamarind Noodles and Short Rib. Both were so flavorful and executed perfectly. The Short Rib was tender. It was really hard to pick between all the entrees but we are happy we got these two. For dessert we got their seasonal pick. It was corn ice cream with miso caramel, and popcorn garnish. Another amazing visit to Modita; I'm convinced there is some kind of magic going on at the Cunningham group, because they always turn out delicious restaurants. Modita is the latest addition to the gang, and it's in the bottle works district. The inside is a great set up, dark but not Hollister dark, a plant wall; great art and music. Service is always great, knowledgeable and they take great care of you. The selection of drinks is large, and the cocktails are always fun, I forget the name of what I had, but it was a refreshing combination of carrot and mango with gin, and I enjoyed it. Also had a botanist gin and tonic, if you love gin like me, check out botanist gin. Now for the food. Soup dumplings are great, they are perfect to split with friends and the flavor is delicious and savory. We also got the wagu nigiri, and the wasabi tuna roll, both are fresh and delicious. My main course was deliciously seasoned noodles with shrimp. Since it was a birthday we got a complementary lemon dessert that was perfect if you are dreaming of summer like me. Check this place out! Modita had been on my list of new places to try for a while & it was most certainly worth the wait. My wife and I came here with another couple and made our reservations through OpenTable. Upon being seated we started with a round of drinks from their impressive drink program. Everyone loved their drinks (Lady Amalthea, Maelstrom, & Gentle Repose) we really appreciated how each drink had a uniquely delicious flavor. For starters we enjoyed the Bao Buns & Shrimp Shumai which were perfectly prepared & complimented the rest of the meal. I ordered the Faroe Island Salmon which was wonderful & loved the harmony of flavors used in the dish. To top it all off I ordered the Yuzu Bar which was sublime! We had a wonderful time here last night! It's a comfortable rather industrial feel, good atmosphere, a little noisy, but has a very good vibe. The manager's help to enter the restaurant as a handicapped, was very helpful and friendly! Cunningham restaurants has done it again!! We had the most amazing evening celebrating a BIG birthday and so glad we chose this place to use that gift card! Fabulous service from Mya, but the entire staff was so friendly and kind. Being temporarily disabled, I was shown such courtesy with staff walking me through the mini elevator and to the accessible entry. Not one but two birthday treats, a glass of sparkling rose and a chocolate mousse dessert. On to the incredible meal. Ginger miso salad, potstickers, bao buns, tuna uramaki and filet yakitori! OMG! I can't quit thinking about how impressed I was by this restaurant! I went with a group of friends for Devour Indy. They have a whole vegetarian/ vegan menu (with multiple options!) as well as their traditional Devour Menu. I started with the sanctuary which is a gin based drink and it was pretty good and it looked beautiful. I got the veggie Gyoza and it was served in a delicious chili oil. It had a perfect amount of crispiness to it. I liked that it wasn't served with the typical dipping sauce and was instead served in the chili oil. For my main course I got the Mapo Tofu. It is definitely spicy but that is what I expect with a good Mapo Tofu. My boyfriend,who is Chinese, makes this for me and it's one of my favorite dishes. Modita did a fantastic job! I went to Modita right when it had first opened and was impressed with the interior design, layout, and menu. However, the menu options simply didn't have me leaving saying wow and I felt like many of the options were similar to what I could get at some of my go-to thai restaurants but for half the price. The location is amazing as it is in the heart of the new Bottleworks development. I highly recommend you give yourself time to explore some of the local shops and night life in the area. All of the dishes we ordered were good. I'd have to say my favorite was one of the sushi rolls and the salad though. Fair warning, their fire noodles on their menu as truly fire. Phewwwww were my lips and mouth burning, they were flavorful though (a little on the salty side). You leave with a free plumped lip service which is nice (I hear people pay good money for that service these days). That being said the food was still good and cocktails were tasty as well. I was super excited when I heard about Modita and it being a Cunningham restaurant. With that being said, I had high expectations. I love all of their dim sum and I would absolutely go back just to make a meal out of these. Their Waygu is also one of the best items on their menu. I tried their A5 Japanese Wagyu Nigiri to start and I have now ordered their Waygu entree twice. We have had a few dishes that have taken off the menu now that were sub par. But recently I have enjoyed everything I've ordered. Their kimchi fried rice and tamarind noodles are easy go-tos. My husband and I decided to check out Modita because we had a CRG gift card and wanted to try a new place. When we left after our meal we were annoyed at ourselves for not visiting this place sooner! Between the two of us we ordered a couple cocktails, the tuna tartare, hamachi uramaki roll, bao buns and mapo tofu. Everything was so delicious. We were blown away by the sushi roll (second dish brought out), and even joked that we had already eaten the best thing we were going to have that night. And then the pork belly bao buns somehow surpassed that, they were so insanely good. Service was also wonderful. Drinks were good. They do have a few mocktails that aren't listed on their menu. My husband had one and it was good. So if that's your thing, don't be afraid to ask about it. We will definitely be coming back to try some more of the menu soon. Cunningham has done it again. This may be the best meal that I've had in Indianapolis. The only reason they get four stars is because we had reservations but had to wait about 20 minutes for our table. Other than that, the service was good and the food was delicious. Love this upscale CRG restaurant at bottle works. We came for my birthday and it was an awesome experience from the moment we walked in. Highly recommend making a reservation. There are a few public lots that we were able to find parking in. We started with a few cocktails and the menu had so many good options. For appetizers we got the corn dogs and the bao buns. The corn dogs had an Asian twist and they were super unique and delicious. The bao buns were good too but what you would expect at an Asian fusion restaurant. For entrees we got the tangerine chicken and tamarind noodles. Both were very flavorful and we even had a little leftovers to bring home. If I had to choose I liked the noodle dish a little more, was kinda similar to pad Thai. The Cunningham Restaurant Group (CRG) is at it again. They're restaurateurs who never fail. They can do burgers, steaks, seafood, authentic Italian, tapas, and gastropub fare. Now, with the addition of Modita to their restaurant portfolio, CRG has proven they can serve some mean Asian cuisine. I love Asian food: Chinese, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai. You name it, I'll eat it. Typically, I prefer small, family-owned, hole-in-the-wall eateries. I like the dimly-lit kinds with out-of-date furnishings. Located in the Bottleworks Hotel, Modita is quite different: it's elegant, hip, and upscale. It's pretentious enough to be in a four-star hotel - but far more relaxed than what you'd expect in a five-star establishment. No dinner jackets are required. Modita is not a sawdust joint. Make a reservation like a civilized person. If there's one thing I detest, it's waiting for a table. If you're dining with a larger party, ask for the private dining room. That's what I did, and I enjoyed it. The service at Modita is top-notch, from the host to the server. Enjoying Modita with a group is a satisfying experience; clearly, you'll want to try an array of dishes - especially on your first visit. I recommend starting your meal with at least one appetizer. The bao buns are a fantastic choice. They're large, and the pork belly will melt in your mouth. Noodles are great, and Modita serves three varieties. I prefer the tamarind noodles, and it's the choice you should make if you enjoy the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. I strongly suggest adding chicken to the dish. Delicious. The yakisoba noodles are a strong choice as well, although I found them far less rich in taste. If you're partial to Indian cuisine, be sure to try the tikka masala. This is my new favorite restaurant in Downtown Indianapolis. I went during Devour Indy with 5 other people. I love doing this because I get to try a little bit of everything! For appetizers, we ordered Edamame, Bao Buns, Korean Corn Dogs, Miso Salad, and Egg Rolls. Out of all these appetizers, my two favorites were the Bao Buns and Edamame. The Bao Buns were perfect! The bun was perfectly fluffy and not too sticky. The pork inside was tender and paired very well with their tasty sauce. The Edamame was a very generous portion and had a tasty twist to the seasoning! For my entree, I order the Salmon. It was a great portion with some tasty sauce, pickled cucumbers, and rice. It was very tasty. Out of all the dishes, my favorite was the Tikka Masala! This came as a big surprise to me, but I loved every bite of it. The Tikka Masala is packed with flavor and zest. I was surprisingly a little underwhelmed by the food here! Nothing was inherently bad, but nothing was great either. The dough on the soup dumplings was a little thick/tough on the top part where it's folded, and the sauce was salty but the meat was bland. The soba noodles had a lot going on. Personally I may not have been a fan because I do not enjoy fusion / Asian "inspired" cuisines. The mixing of flavors to these classic dishes was a little intense! I was very impressed with Modita. The food and service are both excellent, and, while the interior decor is not my personal taste, I recognize the aesthetic as something that many people do like. Regardless of the decor - the vibe of the restaurant is great no matter your preference. The food is pan Asian and high quality. The menu is vibrant (and changes), and the chef has been creative with some special twists on classic dishes, as well as some unique creations. The staff was above and beyond on both of my visits. Good food takes time, but I don't recall ever feeling like I waited too long for anything. Again, that's the staff being on their game. The kitchen hums like a machine, and the wait staff are pleasantly right there when you need them and deftly out-of-the-way when you don't. It's a great place for conversation and an intimate gathering with close friends. I will be visiting Modita again soon, and I highly recommend that you do the same. read more

We ordered the soup dumplings, potstickers, ginger salad, sesame chicken and edame pods. The meat in the dumplings was very hard and no soup inside. Potstickers were burnt on one side. Both were flooded with a hot chili base sauce. Edame pods had the same sauce. Inedible. Fried rice = no flavor Sesame chicken left a Bad taste in mouth and where was the sesame seeds Server was pleasant but ver slow and dining room very noisy. Would not go there in the future. Let's get right to it - I recommend this place with caveats. My sister and I ordered: 1. Pork Belly Baos 2. Korean Corn Dogs 3. Hamachi 4. Short Rib 5. Extra Rice with soy sauce ($5 why?!?) 6. She had two fruity beers 7. I had hot tea. $105 with a 15% tip. Not bad for (2), but I'm from Seattle and she's been in NYC for (5) years. Ambiance - chic, but not Asian or Pan Asian enough for me. Cool Christmas tree. We were sat in the area directly to the left of the host stand. LOUD. It was full and the longest table behind my chair left in segments with the loudest folks leaving last. My sister said it wasn't so bad. At least we could hear each other. In NYC, she's been in restaurants where she couldn't hear the person across from her (usually due to loud music). The Pork Belly Bao is definitely the winner here. I wasn't so impressed with the Bao Bun through. It wasn't as puffy and firm as I'm used to. Also, all Indy restaurants have this aversion to fat. It's definitely a Midwest thing. That was the leanest pork belly I've ever had (then again I'm Filipino-American and our food is the highest saturated fat of all Asian cuisines haha). MISS - Korean Hot Dogs. I've included a picture of what they should look like. These were like stocky football players instead of lean/long legged dancers. I don't think they used rice flour either. Only Korean Hot Dogs I could find in Indy so worth a try if you're new. Hamachi - interesting Sushi. Better than Sushi Boss (cool concept but avoid their short rib) but worse than Mori (authentic Japanese food). Short Rib - excellent. So tender. Well flavored. Rice - mediocre. Teas - meh. Poor selection. Who wants turmeric and green tea? I'd come here again but would like to be in a quieter spot. I know this place is relatively new. I see it growing. Usually I hate Pan Asian as it tries to do too much. But the Cunningham Group are too class. Keep it up. read more

Another first visit via Devour. Loved: bao buns. I contemplated another order to go for later. Get these. I got the Tangerine chicken. This was a pricier version of Orange chicken without all of the breading. It was a bit salty but it was OK, however, I would've been just as happy with a version from any hole in the wall Chinese place. The yuzu bar was refreshing but seemed more lemon than yuzu. But, it didn't matter; this lemon bar/creme brulee hybrid disappeared despite my claim of being full. The drinks were fairly expensive. My beer(s) were $10 each and my friend's mixed drink was $18. However, the mixed drinks (everyone with a mixed drink got the Jasper) received rave reviews. I'll try one on my next visit. I liked Modita and hope to update all of this when I return for a non-Devour experience. The service was excellent, despite the craziness of being entirely booked for Devour. If you have not tried Modita yet, I highly recommend making the trip soon! I was blown away by the food and drinks and I already cannot wait to go back! We got the Korean Corn Dogs and Soup Dumplings for an appetizer. Then for the main meal I got the Tangerine Chicken which had a little spicy kick to it and it was delicious. The cocktails were also so good, I got the Marble and was very happy with it. The parking is similar to the rest of downtown, there is street parking and some open lots that you have to pay for. This was my first time here since they are always book and so busy! And for good reason too, the food and ambiance of this restaurant were off the charts! Everything came out in a timely manner and out server was knowledgeable on all of the dishes what people seemed to like the most. We got 3 different items from the dim sum menu they were able to adjust how many we got for our table so everyone could try the dish. There were absolutely no complaints about any of the food, it was all so good! My favorites were definitely the grilled mushrooms (Robata Yakitori section) and the Hamachi Uramaki Roll, which I highly suggest if you are a garlic girl (its topped with garlic chips)! I went to Modita on Sunday January 29th around 6ish that evening. I went to the restaurant for Devour Indy which is always perfect to try a new restaurant during that time. Modita in the heart of the Bottomworks district, you can either park on side of the streets if open, or you can park on the parking lot in the back. Entering, there are no stairs, yet when heading to the bathroom there are few stairs. I went to Modita by myself, sat in the back not too far from hostess stand. My Server was Aaron he was so sweet, kind, very helpful on the menu, and professional. The first meal I ordered was the Bao Buns(2) since it was during Devour Indy, very delicious tender pork meat, the bun itself was soft, yummy, it was served with cole slaw which I did remove that. Then, the second course was chicken Pho Noodles(Bean Sprout | Thai Basil | Jalapeño | Rice Noodle) I removed the jalapeños, tried the noodle soup, and I exchanged that real fast. I personally wasn't a fan of that noodle dish. I exchanged the chicken pho noodles with the pork soup dumplings(5) it was delicious, sweet, and it did had a slight kick to it. Modita, is a full service, Asian inspired restaurant, that does have a full bar, even have Sake wines, and the designs inside are very beautiful. The restrooms are unisex, and the restroom I was in does have yellow theme as well as very clean restroom. Nonetheless, I will definitely go back to try more delicious items, and even have a cocktail. read more

Pretty darn good food. However, not to die for. I really enjoy that it's an Asian fusion place so you could get sushi and curry if you desire. However, their specialty beef dish costs $95, isn't worth it, and legitimately comes on white pita bread . I do recommend their Korean corn dogs. They were awesome and worth the money. Also, the bar service was slowwwwwww and not worth it. Our waiter was visibly confused a couple times when he returned to check on us and saw us without drinks. I got a glass of Chardonnay and it was $14... not worth it at all. It was basically impossible to get more than 2 rounds of drinks throughout the meal unless you order everything up front. My recommendation is to buy drinks across the street at the garage and then come over to Modita for a snack. Don't waste your money on the alcohol at Modita. read more

This place is pretty OK. We came for Devour Downtown to try it out. However the portions were so tiny that it negated any sort of value we were getting. The pork belly bao was delicious though (which elevates my rating by 1 star all by itself). Even though it was basically a Peking duck bao with pork belly instead of duck. The tonkatsu seemed like it was really geared toward the Hoosier palate as it was basically a fried tenderloin cut into strips, sauced with a splash of hoisin sauce, and served on a bed of sauerkraut (and rice). I mean it was OK, but I hesitate to call this Asian fusion. The ice cream trio should have been a duo as one of the ice creams (the champagne) was overchurned and icy. The other 2 were top notch. All together, this was not even close to a $35 dinner. Should have been $20-25. The decor is really cool though (but 5he music was a little loud). They really leaned into the hole Garage Food Hall (across the street) theme. Service was good too. The manager frequently stopped by our table to see how we were doing. When I mentioned that the sake was not very good, he quickly got me something much tastier (even acknowledging that my original drink was not one of his favorites either). We went to Indy for our youngest daughter's 18th birthday. She enjoys different Asian quisine amd wanted to give Modita a try. This place is in the middle of the new hip Bottleworks location. We were promptly seated at our reservation time and I thought the interior was beautifully decorated. Service was prompt and attentive on a busy Friday evening. I was hoping for more sushi options on the menu, but I would put it in the pan-asian/fushion category. All our dishes were fresh tasting with a perfect amount of seasoning. Stopped by finally for Devour Indy. Some hits, some misses. Bao bun 5/5 - the slaw is a perfect balance to the softness of the bun. The grilled pork had a great smoky taste. Oof yes loved it. Hamachi Sushi 4.5/5 - the garlic chili crunch really came out in this one, and it balanced surprisingly well with the asian pear slivers. I could definitely have a bottle of the garlic chili crunch. Only complaint was the sushi rice, a little too hard in parts. Edamame 4/5 - simple and tasty with a kick from that garlic chili sauce. The spice from the garlic chili sauce was a little overwhelming at times making it hard to distinguish the soy sauce and lime. Did we finish it all though? Absolutely. Tikka masala 4/5 - so creamy but with a great balance of lightness, especially with the cauliflower. It could use a slight twist of freshness. The dish is also vegan and gluten free! Tamarind noodles 4.5/5 - hefty serving of jumbo shrimp just slightly overcooked. The bean sprouts offer so much textural contrast, and there's a little spice but isn't overwhelming. Center cut sirloin 2.5/5 - most of this fell flat, the broccolini was super dry, the sirloin was also tough to cut into. The mash potatoes flavor was great but the texture could have been creamier. Mango sorbet with plantains 4/5 - loved the sorbet, loved the plantains, didn't love them together. One of my plantains was a little hard but the rest were fantastic with the dulce de leche. The sorbet was great with coconut flakes. Sesame icecream with chocolate mint ganache 3.5/5 - I didn't love this pairing, couldn't put my finger on what exactly wasn't working here. Black sesame was overpowered by the chocolate mint. Ambiance 8/10 - the music was a little too hype for the rest of the place and it was quite loud. It's VERY chilly so bring a jacket if you get cold easily. Signal is spotty but they have wifi. Service 10/10 - came in without a reservation and they told us a wait time and texted us when the place was ready. Our server was very kind and attentive. read more

I want to love this place. But It's more like a 3.5 in my opinion. Had some sushi, dumplings the banh mi app. It's a fun concept. But for someone who loves Dim sum. I did not love their dumplings. Maybe it was too oily? The place is beautiful though, service was stellar. Great place for groups or meals to share. I'll def be back but maybe will try some of their other dishes. I did not love the sushi, it was cold and reminded me of grocery store sushi. I still had a lovely time there. We polished off a couple bottles of champagne with the 2 of us, and will try more of the menu next time. read more

My absolute new favorite place. Trust me, you must try. Since this was a Cunningham restaurant my expectations were already set high. To start off, customer service was perfect. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile but can never find reservations available on Open Table. So I decided to just call them. The hostess was very nice and accommodating and fit me in for 2 on a Saturday night around 8. When we got there, we didn't have to wait long at all. They had our table ready for us. Please note it was definitely busy with no other available tables. Our waiter was friendly and was not pushy but honest when explaining the menu and his favorites. I got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and my boyfriend got an Asian beer. Both were fair priced and great. We were between some things on the menu and our waiter suggested to go with the soup dumplings and bao buns. I'm so happy we listened to him because they were amazing. He was very well aware of what we were eating and making sure we had the correct utensil we needed to easily enjoy our experience the whole night. Soup Dumplings: If you have never had them, they contain rich flavors of soup inside. So be careful when biting into them to make sure you get the full experience. Bao Buns: The meat was very tender and perfectly cooked and overall had a lot of flavor. After being filled with our first course, our waiter did suggest that the main courses were completely shareable. We were in a noodle mood and he suggested tamarind noodles. The noodles had a little bit of spice to them and had a good ratio of meat. We also decided to try the center cut sirloin teriyaki with wasabi mooncake since he highly recommend and had not steered as wrong yet. For a sirloin cut of meat it was filled with flavor and tender also. It was a bit small, but 6 oz easily filled us up. We had so much food left over we boxed the noodles. This review is long because I can honestly say this is the first restaurant in awhile that has blown me away with their atmosphere, service and cuisine.
