Incredible meal and overall experience! We had reservations on a Monday at 7:15 and I was pleasantly surprised by how lively the atmosphere was. I'm sure it's packed on the weekends! Our server, Aaron, was fantastic. We ordered several dishes and each was timed perfectly. After a delicious cocktail (Arigato for me, Mezcal for my date) we started with the tuna tartar, which was very fresh. Next came the soup dumplings, which I was most excited for. Great! Then we tried the filet off the robato grill section. This was the highlight of the meal and I will definitely order again. And then two rolls - hamachi and tuna. Next time, we'd only order one roll, as we were stuffed! The hamachi was my favorite. My husband and I went to Modita for our anniversary dinner during Devour. I'd been wanting to try it for a while and this was the perfect opportunity! We started with a delicious pandan cocktail, nigiri, and the fried chicken wonton (unfortunately not pictured). For our main course, we had the wagyu and salmon. And then we finished with the yuzu bar and ice cream trio for our desserts. The Ube Heath was our favorite of the ice creams and my husband wished he had a big bowl of that on its own! But, my goodness, every part of our meal was amazing!! The service was too perfect and the ambience was lovely as well. Everything was absolutely delicious for our night out at modita. We ended up spending a few hours lounging at this restaurant with amazing food and drinks. The vibes were *chefs kiss * . I started off with a Lady of Tani cocktail that was exactly what I wanted - a light refreshing sweeter cocktail. My second drink later that night was the Rudra, which was such a smooth, coconut-based drink. We ordered a few appetizers to share as a table. The edamame was a great starter, coated in a garlic-chili salt what was so flavorful. The pork bao buns were so pillowy soft with the nice contrasting crunch from the coleslaw that tied beautifully with the flavors of the pork belly. I loved the spicy kick from the pork soup dumplings. The salmon roll tasted so fresh. The Hamachi Uramaki Roll was a unique veggie roll w Asian pear and garlic chip. Everything tasted great! We had such attentive service throughout our meal. They really hit the mark: not overly pushy, available when we needed them, and helpful with all of our questions. This place is fancy and impressive! Perfect date night spot. It's darker/intimate and decorated nicely. The menu is unique and confused us a little at first. There's appetizers but also small plates (dim sum) - then a section that is just grilled meats - and then regular entrees. Oh and sushi. Do yourself a favor and get the Bao Buns. They are in the dim sum and honestly I'd go back just for those! All the food we tried was great (bao buns, soup dumplings, chicken udon noodles, beef Szechuan noodles). We have been here three times. We really like Modita and if Asian Fusion is your thing, you're sure to like it as well. I loved the miso ginger Salad and the brussel sprouts. The bao buns were a smash hit. The salmon was delicious but the brown rice was very boring. The short rib special was just okay. The service has always been excellent here. The Cunningham Group does an excellent job training their servers. We made reservations and were promptly seated. On our future visit, I will avoid the main entrees and just share the appetizers/small plates or try a noodle/rice bowl because I've never been blown away by the entrees. Came here for my birthday dinner and it was the perfect spot for a fancy meal with some friends! Love the ambiance and vibe of this place. Parking is a little difficult on a weekend evening with all the construction going on, but it was worth it. For appetizers we started with the chicken potstickers and mapo tofu. The potstickers only came with 3 pieces but they were able to add one extra since there were 4 of us, so that was nice. The potstickers were good but the tofu stole the show! It was tossed in a chilli sauce that had a kick to it but was so flavorful and delicious. The edamame is a great option too and it's tossed in some salt and spices, and the sushi options are great to split as well and it's super fresh. For entrees, I got the chicken yakisoba noodles and it was so good! I loved that it was saucy and not dry. The filet is also delicious here, it's coated in an Asian-type sauce and served with wasabi flavored mashed potatoes but not actually spicy like wasabi so you get the flavor without the kick. They also gave us a free dessert for my birthday, we chose the chocolate cake which was so decadent and amazing. The yuzu bar is their specialty but I'm not a big fan of citrusy dessert. We came here for Valentine's Day and started at the bar. Due to the evening, we knew it would be busy and we wouldn't get a lot of interaction with our bartenders. This is usually fine with us. We each ordered a drink and by the time we got them our table was ready. Deanna was our server and did an awesome job. We ordered the egg rolls, Bao Buns, tangerine chicken, and shrimp and curry crispy noodles. Everything was delicious, well timed to the table, and we left full and happy. The food was delicious and even with some of my changes to the dish, it came out perfectly. Next time we go we probably wouldn't get the shrimp curry crispy noodles again. I think so many places give you enough for 1.5 to 2 servings, so it almost seems out of place for them to give you exactly enough. I left pleasantly but not overwhelmingly full. Our server, Aaron, provided excellent suggestions on cocktails and food. He was very attentive and friendly. The food came out reasonably fast considering how busy it was. The atmosphere was on the loud side, so coming here for an intimate meal may not be the best. If you like sour, I highly recommend the Healing Spirit cocktail. It is lemon and VERY tart. Finally made it out to Modita in the Bottleworks as part of Summer Devour Indy, and boy I was not disappointed! We had a 3-Course meal starting with the Hamachi Nigiri with Black Tobiko and Smoke Seasalt, the rice was a little loose but the fish tasted fresh and loved the added Smokey saltiness. I upgraded my entree to the Australian Wagyu and it was delicious, the sticky rice wasn't what I was expecting but loved the umami flavors - it was more like a fried sticky rice. The meal ended with the trio ice cream (Strawberry Basil, Ube, and Mango) the ice cream was rich and flavorful. All for $35 (plus up charge for the wagyu) was a great value and a wonderful way to try out Modita. Otherwise, you can expect to spend a little bit on the higher side for all three items a la carte. Atmosphere is chic, and we got seated pretty quickly for a 7pm on a Friday Night. I would make reservations though if you're in a time constraint or want to guarantee a spot. Modita is so fun- it is a great up-scale Asian fusion restaurant that is perfect for date night. We originally came here as part of the Devour Indy deal, but we have been back several times since- on dates, as doubles dates, and just with friends. It is in the perfect location in Bottleworks to get dinner and some drinks, then go to Pins for some fun, go to Living Room for a movie, or just walk up Mass Ave for more cocktails! It does seem to be a bit expensive, but everything we have gotten has been great. It is the only place I have been to where I tried a cocktail with chili oil in it- and it was so good! Their cocktails are always inventive and tempting. The appetizers are great, and often my husband and I share two entrees because we just can't decide. The service has been great every time that we go, and there is no where that you could sit inside that doesn't feel super cool. I love this place! I've been during Devour week and a few times on normal weekdays/ weekends. The cocktails are rotating and I always ask our waiter which one they recommend. They've never given me a bad recommendation, so I'm going this stick with that strategy. I'm convinced the best way to experience the menu is to get a bunch of different dishes and share it family style. You get to try so much more food, plus it's fun! The bao buns are the star of this show!!! A little sweet, a little savory, and oh so good. I've tried multiple sushi rolls and the shrimp tempura is by far the best one. I love coming to this place and trying new items every time. Overall, the ambiance is relaxed and so beautiful. The staff is great and always super honest about the menu. Decor - 5/5 Somewhat like you're outdoors at a post-industrial Italian chateau. Love it. Excellent play between light and shadow. Service - 5/5 Our server was friendly, helpful and not overly intrusive. The manager, noting that we were clearly unhappy with our meal, kindly declined to charge us for the meal. Walking out of a restaurant is an exceptionally rare circumstance for me, and it was very unfortunate that we had to do it here. Unfortunately we found the food itself extremely overhyped. Asian-inspired, perhaps, but white-washed into oblivion. "Fusion" would be one thing, but much of what we ordered were simply traditional modern Asian dishes made faster and less expensively than you might find in a traditional restaurant. Evidently this kind of chicanery fools most customers. Tuna Tartare - 3/5 Tuna tartare served with puffed rice and sesame crackers. The crackers themselves were excellent. Unfortunately, the tuna, while fresh, was largely tasteless on its own, indicating that a low fat content (read: cheaper) tuna was used in this dish. In an apparent attempt to make up for that, the center of the tartare included Japanese pickles, which are great, but absolutely do not belong in the dish. The pickle flavor seeped into the nearby tuna, ruining it. Had this been made with a fattier tuna, and no pickles, it could have been excellent. Unfortunately, apparent cost-cutting measures by the restaurant made it mediocre at best. Pork and Truffle Soup Dumplings - 1/5 Confusing. Extremely thick skin. Great, very porky filling. Soup tasted very close to Campbell's beef and vegetable, and there wasn't much of it due to the thick skin. The manager indicated that they do these by machine, not by hand. While I understand that as a cost cutting measure, what you're looking for in a soup dumpling is traditionally thin skin and gentle but flavorful soup which pairs well with the meat. The soup itself was extremely out of place, and the skin was extremely thick. No truffle flavor identified. Skip. Kimchi Kimbap - 1/5 Just wrong. Kimbap is a traditional Korean street food that is served like a sushi roll. It has specific ingredients that go in it. Sometimes, you might see the fishcake replaced with bulgogi (or here, allegedly kimchi), but the basic ingredients are something of a constant: carrot, egg, burdock, cucumber, pickled radish. Instead of egg, we got a second strip of pickled radish. The burdock was replaced with arugula to cut costs. No kimchi flavor at all was detected. This resulted in the balance of flavors being just...wrong. Unagi Nigiri - 1/5 A straightforward standard dish, ruined. Unagi is eel served with a four ingredient sauce: sake, mirin, sugar, soy sauce. The sauce was overwhelmingly salty. As best we can tell, Modita forwent the normal sauce to serve it dressed with pure soy sauce, ruining the dish. We also tried two cocktails. Can't recommend either: Onyx Sands - 2/5 Listed ingredients: Coffee Infused Cimarron Reposado, Cynar 70, Orgeat, Lime, Pineapple, Sesame. Cocktail is not balanced. The only detectable flavors are a coffee foretaste and a strong cigarette-butt aftertaste. If there was any lime, orgeat or pineapple present in our drink, it was undetectable. Nekojita - 2/5 Listed ingredients: Coconut Infused Soju, Campari, Rayu Mezcal, Strawberry, Lemon, Lychee-Lotus Shrub. Again, this cocktail was not balanced. The only things we could detect were sweetened mezcal (third ingredient) and a mediated campari. These latter two ingredients drowned the flavor of everything else out. read more

Another great CRG restaurant that delivered on delicious food, great service, and overall an amazing date night. The food is modern upscale Asian fusion. As an Asian American, I was admittedly kind of skeptical, but I'm glad I gave Modita a chance! Everything on the cocktail menu looked delicious but we settled for the one with San toki whiskey, Aleppo pepper, pineapple juice and more. I'm not a huge whiskey fan and this was very well balanced and not overpowering. One of the best cocktails I've tried. We tried their robota grill mapo tofu that was so unique. Apparently Modita is one of the few restaurants that has this grill in the country. From what our waitress described, the grill gets up to a really high heat and does an excellent job at caramelizing the outside. The tofu was crispy on the outside but warm and soft on the inside. The sauce was moderately spicy and very flavorful. A unique twist on a classic! We also tried the popular tamarind shrimp noodles, which is similar to pad Thai. This was unexpectedly one of our favorites. The best part were the shrimp. These were jumbo sized and cooked to perfection. We also tried their king salmon sushi roll. I loved all of the toppings and the garnishes that added to the bite. Fish was fresh, not fishy at all. Prices were slightly elevated, but isn't everything expensive nowadays? Today we visited Modita to celebrate our anniversary. We were immediately sat and greeted by our server Evan. Evan did a brief detailed description of the menu and brought out our food in a fast timely matter, his acts of service were spot on. One thing I quickly noticed was how exquisite the service was, not only from our server Evan but the rest of the staff. Our table was approached by 3 different servers that helped fill our water and clear our tables. Evan was a kind generous man and he highlighted our evening. For starters we got the Salmon Nigiri and Crab Rangoons. The Salmon Nigiri was a simple high quality dish that prepared the flavor palette for the food that was to come. I can say the same thing for the Crab Rangoons, it was a fresh high quality dish that came out hot and ready and was paired with a sweet and spicy sambal sauce. For our entrees I ordered the Wagyu Skirt Steak and my significant other ordered the Shrimp Tamarind noodles. The Wagyu Skirt Steak was remarkable. The steak was cooked perfectly throughout and was tender and flavorful. The steak alone was high quality and had no fats. My partners Shrimp Tamarind noodles were flavorful and the ingredients in the dish paired perfectly with eachother. He also noted that the shrimp was one of the best he'd had in his life. Finally for dessert we got the Chefs Seasonal Choice which was chai ice cream. I'm a HUGE FAN of chai and I can tell this was pure chai not artificial. This swanky spot opened recently in the Bottleworks building. Located steps away from Bottleworks Hotel, The Garage Food Hall, Living Room Theatre, PINS, and the wonderful shops on Mass Ave, it's a fun spot to be. The restaurant has been super popular, so I'd definitely recommend getting a reservation in advance. You can book on their website, but if you have eight or more people, you'll need to call them. We had a group of eight and got given a cool private room (which I believe you usually have to pay drink and food minimums to get). Because it was Devour Indy week and probably busier than usual, they used this room to seat us, which made it a really fun and private dining experience. The pork belly was so soft, and the bao buns were made perfectly! For the entree we tried tangerine chicken which lacked the tangerine flavor and couldve used some more spice. It was my first time having the Korean Corn dos and the low-ish score is because it was a texture thing for me. I really enjoyed the spicy mustard though. The Bao Buns were disappointing. I come here specifically for the bao and 1) the slice of pork belly was literally half the normal size and 2) it was DRY! I wanted to cry. The soup dumplings were good and the fried rice really hit the spot! The addition of the shrimp really set it off.
