Translation: I've driven all the way from town to Hawaii Kai two weekends in a row just for breakfast at Moena. And it has been completely worth it. First I ordered coffee and was very pleased to see that each cup is freshly brewed to order and they steam your milk to order as well. So delicious. For breakfast, I ordered the short rib loco moco and pretty much the only reasons this place doesn't have 5 stars is my eggs were a little over cooked (asked for over med and got over well) and my meat was a little fatty but overall it was so delicious and the meat that wasn't fatty was so tender and delicious. My husband ordere the ""MC" breakfast. Very basic breakfast but he ate the whole thing and said it was really good. The service was really great. I had a super friendly and attentive server. We rather regrettably showed up at Moena Cafe for the first time post-hike, covered in the salt-spray that comes with walking along rocks near the water, tank-top-clad, and probably pretty smelly. The staff were very courteous despite how much we stood out among the considerably classier clientele, we were attended to efficiently, and the food came out reasonably quickly. I had an acai bowl, and let me just say, for the price, it was GOOD. I've had acai bowls of similar price that were less than half as packed as this one and not nearly as delicious. I'd come back here just for the acai bowl, honestly, which is stuffed with fruits and loaded with honey honey honey~ It was so good, but the size was a bit much for me and I had to rely on my friends to help me finish it. So we stumbled upon this restaurant after hiking Diamond Head and I'm sure glad we did. The braised short rib was incredible, cooked to perfection...sooo sooo good. The dish consisted of fried eggs on top of tender short ribs drenched in a flavorful brown gravy sauce on top of rice. It was a hearty meal worth getting. I couldn't help but say mmmm mmm with almost every bite! The salmon benedict was excellent. Instead of the usual muffin, it came on crunchy garlic bread. It has been brought to my attention that this establishment has been practicing illegal violations against one if not more employees. Whereas, employees are being told that their tips are used to make up their total hourly wage. Where it is stated that tips are to be considered separate and not to be used in conjunction with ones hourly rate. As well as employees who have worked for more than 30 days with an average exceeding 20 hours a week are not offered health insurance. Furthermore, they are told that they would be given health insurance after 90 days of probation. Lastly, these employees who've reported these claims have been victims of retaliation by bringing these concerns to the management. When we got there place was busy, we write our name and waited outside to be call. When we got seated the waitress right away brinG us water and ask if we want to order any drink. When first walking in you have to write your name and wait for your name to get called. Don't wait inside there's not enough space. I have come here twice and the first time the wait was about 10 minutes or so and the second time I didn't wait at all (i came 30 minutes before closing time). The prices aren't reasonable in my opinion because the food is delicious but not amazing enough to pay the amount they charge for with the additional 4% for the kitchen staff. I completely agree with that, but not with the prices listed before the additional charge. The seats are pretty close to each other so you can hear everything the person sitting next to you is saying. The wait for food isn't too bad. I got the fried rice with two eggs and it was okay, but the affogato is really tasty! My sister got the chicken panini with the chips, she enjoyed the panini but the chips were way too salty, I recommend the salad instead. Service is decent, definitely efficient. read more

It feels like you are in Soho, NYC or Santa Monica, CA. Our waitress, Krista was superb! Ahhhh do I miss this kind of service. She was super sweet, thoughtful, attentive, and enthusiastic. Ok, now on to the food: The menu is extensive. You can order French toast (it looked delicious) to crepes and short ribs! When I normally go out for breakfast, I have to get my decaf coffee somewhere else...not anymore! The drinks menu ranges from cappuccino, specialty ice teas, to shakes. We ordered the salmon eggs benedict. Delicious crispy toasted bread with a perfectly poached egg and a generous portion of smoke salmon, with a light hollandaise sauce. Yummy! My fiancé ordered the vegetarian omelette. Very tasty and the eggs were not too fluffy. That is important because most omelette are made fluffy as a filler. It came with a side of sautéed potatoes. Thank goodness they were not deep fried. Each dish came with a pretty slice of pineapple. The mocha was a little bit on the sweet side. I had to water it down. If their coffee was as good as "Island Brew Coffeehouse", I would have given them 5 stars. I was offered whip cream as an option. That was a nice gesture. It would have made my coffee sweeter. I have just made my last visit to Moena Cafe. Use to love this place, but now not so much. For one, if you really like coffee with your breakfast - this is not the place for you. The coffee isn't bad - it's actually ok, and comes from a fancy kind machine. If you order regular coffee you're really getting an Americano. I think it's $3 or $3.50 for one cup (small cup barely 8oz, maybe 6) and you get one free refill. The food was just ok this time, so not happy about the decline in quality. But here's the thing that really makes me not want to go back to this neighborhood restaurant... their idea of customer service is worse than their food! Apparently, they aren't relying on the local neighbors to keep them in business. My friend ordered a latte. Which was half a latte in the already small cup. Knowing there was no refill for the latte (already more expensive than plain coffee), and since it was the smallest amount of latte, she asked if they could give her a regular coffee refill. Why not, you get a free refill when you buy the regular coffee. AND THEY SAID NO! REALLY?? What a joke! This was just one of the problems at our breakfast that morning. The bottom line is that they really lack the sense of what makes people want to come back and feel good about going there. Already there are limited breakfast places in HK. Maybe that's the problem. I ordered the eggs benedict...it was one of the smallest eggs benedict I've ever seen...two small pieces of toasted garlic bread with ham and eggs. No side dish. It tasted good, but I am not sure if I would order it again for $11. My friend ordered an Italian panini, also really small, not worth the $10- 12. Went to check this place out and was not disappointed. I live in Mililani and the drive was nice: great weather and no traffic (on the road at 11:45). Koko Marina can be a little too small for me and the parking is challenging so don't go during peak hours. As soon as we walked in we were immediately greeted by a very friendly waitress then seated. All was good but the Short Rib Loco Moco was pretty delish!! I would so drive back to the east side just to eat that and try their Strawberry Pancakes too. Ordered the veggie omelette, and was very satisfied with it. It was a bit pricey for me (but you can make your own judgement - I'm a starvin' student again!), smaller than your average omelette at other breakfast cafes, but also with better quality ingredients. I loved the avocado on it! I also had a cup of coffee. Their coffee is really good, but only good for one refill. Wish that they included a couple more refills... I drink coffee like water.
