I've been going to Moira Sushi for over a decade, so this review honestly feels a little like telling an old friend what's changed. The vibe is still what I remember. Casual, fun, poppy music, and very approachable without trying too hard to be trendy. We went on a weeknight and the restaurant wasn't very busy, which made the experience a little more confusing. For some reason, the food took much longer than expected and the service just didn't feel as attentive as I've experienced in the past. Nothing terrible, just off. Even the miso soup came out lukewarm, which felt like an ominous little foreshadowing from the universe. Like, "brace yourself, things aren't exactly the same." That said, the happy hour menu is still one of the best sushi happy hours in Phoenix. Tons of options, solid cocktails, sake selections, and prices that make you feel like you somehow beat the system. We also ordered the fried chicken bites, which were really good. Thin, crispy breading with great seasoning that didn't overpower the chicken. The sushi rolls themselves still tasted very much like I remembered, which was reassuring because at one point I was worried I had accidentally wandered into some alternate universe where Moira lost its magic. Thankfully, the sushi roll quality itself was still there. It's very possible this was just an off night, because prior visits over the years have been consistently solid. So went to try this place downtown and it's a very cute vibe and atmosphere!!! The happy hour is also a great deal too!! Ordered sushi and edamame the sushi was kinda mid to me the rolls were too big and filled with crab mix ...the tempura was too cold which honestly weirded me out ... Decided to give this place another try. On a Friday night for happy hour we were seated right away outside. The service here has improved a lot since my last visit. Our server grace was very attentive and nice. The coconut shrimp were delicious! We also got the senna roll, Las Vegas rol and a spicy yellowtail roll. All tasted fresh and a good price on happy hour. However I am confused to how 3 happy hour rolls, sodas and an appetizer came out to $76. I had a great experience. I went late one Saturday night. The staff was very lively.The meal did take a while to get to my table. I actually think they forgot about us. Because the waiter came and asked, if I ever get my rolt? And I said, no, and she apologized profusely, and within 7 minutes or so I was eating. Positive : Moira was opened and we were seated outside on a lovely evening. The rest.... We had the poke nachos, senna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and Kara (chicken bites). We ordered the gold rush cocktail, but they were out of Lavendar so it was a no go. Instead, we just ordered two Tito's and soda. She asked if we wanted any garnishments and I said , "sure....lime.". She said they didn't have lime and asked if a lemon would be OK. We both agreed it was fine. No biggie. It would have been nice to disclose that the 2 tiny slices of lemon would cost us two dollars! Who charges for this on a cocktail as an up charged ? Ridiculous! Nachos were more like won tons on top of some diced tuna and avocado in a deep bowl. Odd to eat - tasted fine. It was just disjointed and weird. Sushi : no no no NO flavor, no tuna, no shrimp, nothing! It was all blah, mushy rice. I'd prefer my local grocery store sushi over this. So disappointing! The Kara was fine, but the description said it came with seaweed. When I inquired with our server after the fish arrived, she said there was seaweed "in the batter" and we would "taste the seaweed flavor there.". Still waiting It was prepared in a blonde batter with no flavor of nori, no green, no umami, no sign of it. Sorry - a huge miss there. It was served in a bowl over some raw cabbage. The atmosphere was not appealing but not off putting aesthetically. We were just happy to sit outside and grab a bite, even if the bit wasn't great. Paying $2.00 for two slices of lemon earned the 1 star, in tandem with the food that just didn't meet the mark. Sorry, Moira. It's a hard no for us. read more

Had the poke bowl which was delicious by the time I finished it was after 1030 so I ordered from their Happ hour menu a half hour later I still don't have all my food. Someone came over to me to confirm my order about 15 minutes after I ordered so it's clear someone screwed up. When I questioned it I was told it takes awhile for the tempura style roll. That's. BS. I'm sure they won't compensate me for the wait so I'll update that if it changes but I'll think twice about coming here late at night. If you come across this place online, I would honestly avoid it. I don't want to be mean but honestly this was probably one of the worst sushi spots I've visited. Came as a group of 18 people, during a cold night. They said no space inside so we all sat outside freezing, which is fine however they had no heaters. We all were ordering drinks and food within 20 minutes of being seated. Tell me why it took over 40+ minutes just for the first two meals to be brought out and over 60-70 minutes total for everyone to get food they ordered. It all came out at random times by time the last person got their food everyone was done eating theirs and it had already been an hour and a half of us being there. When the bill comes, of course they didn't even pay attention to who ordered what. They were trying to force me to pay for 3 extra hot sake when I kept telling them I didn't order them. Even had their manager "Anna" come out who gave me attitude. Stating "I'm back there and I make the drinks so I know how much you guys ordered". Simply asked them to count how many total were ordered compared to all the glass the sake came in sitting on the table (because they never picked those up). Instead she got snarky and said well you're not leaving because you have to pay for those. We sat in the cold for over 2 hours now at this point we all wanted to go inside and sort out the checks. One by one everyone explained what they ordered and in the end one of my friends paid the additional sake they rang up just to get it out of our way.When I go to finally pay and I was honest what I ordered, he ended up adding ANOTHER sake to my receipt because he was missing one... but wait... didn't yall count the amounts right? Very rude manager who isn't paying attention to her staff or orders, very slow kitchen takes TOO long for food, and very uncomfortable space to eat considering they will make people sit outside but have 0 heaters. The food here is good and we loved coming here because of the ambience, food, and good vibes. The last couple visits though have been bad. The service is HORRIBLE. It starts with the uninviting look you get from the hostess when you walk in to the non existent service you get from the person that is supposed to be your server. The croquettes were a little weird, and I felt like they were missing something. The tofu were fried sticks, and they were fine, although I didn't care much for the dipping sauce. There was nothing I ate that knocked my socks off, but it also wasn't bad. We sat at the bar, and the service was friendly and fast. The hostess who sat us was also our server, and she came around regularly to check on us. She was very friendly and willing to help. They have a pretty decent cocktail and sake menu, but we didn't have any. I could see going back to try one of their specialty cocktails, although it didn't appear there are any discounts on those for happy hour. Speaking of - the happy hour is pretty expansive. Monday-Thursday it is from 5pm-11pm, but the weekends (Friday/Saturday) are only late night happy hour. They are open until 2am on the weekends, though, so if you're drunk on RoRo and craving some sushi, this is the place. The interior of the place feels very hip and chic. My friend joked that she didn't feel cool enough to be there. I liked the decor, and if the weather works, there is also a nice little outdoor area to sit as well. I have all GREAT things to say about Moira Sushi!!!! This restaurant is excellent! The food is excellent! The staff and management are excellent, the location is awesome, the prices are great, they have a great space inside to dine, but also, an adorable little patio out front - We always love to sit on the patio when we go- It's pretty perfect! Especially reverse happy hour! Killer deals on food and drinks! And best part, they are open until 2:00 am!!!!!! In addition, I wanted to give a shout out to Benji, I called last Saturday night at almost closing time and asked if I could get takeout order of some miso soup because my daughter was not feeling well/ had a cold/flu, and basically just feeling terrible! She really wanted Miso soup - she said it was the only thing that would make her feel better It was really late, but called Moira to see if we could get a takeout order. Benji answered and was so awesome, and helpful, sooooo nice! He listen to me explain how shitty she was feeling lol and suggested that I also get her the Udon soup with chicken as well, he said it's like a phenomenal chicken noodle soup and it will definitely help make her feel better! They have happy hour and they're open super late which is awesome for a place to go for drinks and sushi!
