My friend and I got 3 different deserts to go. They were all amazing. The sweet blonde who helped us at the counter was super helpful and the deserts only took a few minutes to prepare. We got the cookie dough, caramel cheesecake bar, and brownie. All were amazing. Our favorite was the cookie dough. NOT what you'd expect, it had an interesting, granular texture and a coconutty sweetness. The chocolate sauce was phenomenal.(Small critique- could have used a touch more salt.) The caramel cheesecake bar blew my mind as well. Salty sweetness and awesome texture. The brownie was gooey and tasty! We'll back next time we're craving some more vegan DECADENCE. read more

We visited twice while we were on Maui. I am always in search of vegetarian and vegan food. The food here was not mind-blowing, but it was hearty and tasty. We had the pineapple fried rice with taro patty which I found tasty. My husband did not like the texture of the taro patty. Second time there we had the eggplant Reuben, a version of the sandwich I had never had before. The eggplant on my sandwich was a little tough - but not so with my husband's. We both agreed the rye bread was delicious. I also think the lavender lemonade was divine. I liked the edible flowers too. I really love the earth-conscious initiatives at Moku Roots. No plastic, no paper. Cloth napkins, mason jar glasses. They have a station where you can return your dirty dishes, flatware and napkins - with a compost bucket to scrape the leftover food into. They have metal containers for takeout for and the glass jars for takeout drinks - you pay a deposit. I purchased a small Maui gold pineapple and some local bananas to take back to our villa. The cookie I purchased to take home was wrapped in a banana leaf and tied with vine. I would recommend you give this place a try. read more

Staff were friendly and we love the sustainable aspect of this restaurant. We know it was a healthy meal, but the food was on the lower end of mediocre. I ordered the Rueben and the eggplant was so tough and tasteless, I had to pull the majority of it out of the sandwich. Didn't finish most of it. My spouse ordered the Loco Moku and while it was a lovely presentation, it was almost flavorless. They believe in reusables, don't offer to go (because you can't compost "compostable" packaging in Maui), buy local where possible and have an incredible selection of primarily vegan options and a few vegetarian ones with egg and cheese. Ordered a vegan chocolate dessert to go and when we received it, I noticed that it was wrapped in a Taro leaf. The dessert was delicious don't get me wrong, but I was concerned about discarding the Taro leaf afterwards. I appreciate the use of bio degradable food storage-- something other than styrofoam--to wrap to go items, but most people will just end up throwing the Taro leaf away when traditionally within the Hawaiian culture, it is used for food. I would suggest using Banana leaves or Ti*( thank you, I did misspell when running spell check) leaves so we are not wasting this precious plant. The owner was kind enough to respond and make very valid points. I do appreciate the support of buying from local farmers so I am going to give an extra star. read more

Had three, yes three, vegan burritos and if I could have I would have had more. By far the most amazing burrito I've had in my life. One of the best place in Maui to have vegetarian food. Went there couple of times during my Maui vacation . Their burgers were huge and the flavors were outstanding. Meat loaf(vegetarian) sandwich was delicious. One of the days they had Mac and cheese with sausage as daily special, it was great, hope they add it to their permanent menu. Tried lavender lemonade and ginger bug , would recommend the lemonade and not the ginger bug( it tasted like kombucha and I am not a fan). Must visit place for vegetarians. read more

I couldn't get my ass up earlier enough to get pancakes. Had the following: Pad Thai: It's made of zucchini noodles. It's REALLY yummy, but I wouldn't say it tasted like Pad Thai though. It was more peanutty.I would definitely get it again. Taro Burger: The "meat" was a bit thick and starchy. If it was half as thick, put a coating of panko, and fried it, it wouldn't feel as heavy in the mouth. Hummus: Ok.... I am NOT, NOT even a little bit of a hummus fan. This has changed my whole thinking of hummus. I think the magic is the mac nuts. GAAAAWWWWDDD it was SOOOO GOOOD!!! I'm going to try to make this at home - yes it was that good! I've never come across a restaurant this green. Places claim to be but this place is legit! They even have a "to go leaf." Their straws are a plant hollowed out. They list every place they source their veggies from, save their compost for recycling, I mean you just can't get any better than this place. Then their food is the bomb too! We had the falafel wrap, mango smoothie, and YLT and they were all delicious. The food flavor creativity and mixtures were unique and amazing. We went back for breakfast a few days later. Thankfully there are only a handful of restaurants on Maui who share this practice. I'm confused as to how it's a choice to not follow the Hawaii state mask mandate though. I was looking for something healthy but tasty and was very happy with Moku Roots! I'm not vegan (and my husband is definitely not vegan either!) and we both thought the options were delicious. My husband got the Reuben- marinated eggplant instead of meat- and I got the protein veggie sandwich. Sadly they were already out of the smoothie of the day when we came for lunch, but if it's because everything was as delicious as lunch, I get it. The taro burger is ridiculous. Had to get two, they were just that good. Awesome signature drinks as well. Grab an extra side of naan, you'll thank me. Also, we loved their unique approach to conservation/recycling. Concerning price, it's not cheap but not overly expensive. I love vegan food but Moku encourages people not to get vaccinated and does not care about their customers in terms of vulnerable customers. Community means protecting others and the best way is for all of us to get vaccinated and boosted. It's not our right to put others at risk. It's such a small sacrifice. Can you tell me your employees are all vaccinated? Are you vaccinated? Do you all wear masks when working there? Do you ask your customers to? Do you check if customers are vaxed when they eat inside? I know the answer but I doubt you will be honest and let your customers decide if that is a risk they chose to take. read more

Wow what a great restaurant! Although, I am super sad that I found them on my last day here, as I saw so many things on the menu that I would like to order! I ordered the Pad Thai and not only was it delicious, but it came out very fast! The zucchini noodles were so good! Customer service is non existent! Went in with a friend who ordered a salad- I did not order any food. After we sat down a young man from the kitchen brought out two salads saying the kitchen made a mistake and there was no charge for the second salad. Within 5 minutes the young lady with brown hair working the counter comes running outside to ask me if I would pay for the salad! I declined and told her to take it which she didn't. She had attitude from the minute we walked in the door. Ever since the new owners took over food quality has declined and now apparently so has their customer service.
