This is my new favorite spot on the west side of Maui. We had the Burger of the week and the "Meat Loaf" sandwich. Both where vegetarian but absolutely delicious. What a special place! We found this restaurant on the first day of our trip to Maui, and it was so delicious that we ate there again every single day of our trip (twice on one of those days!). The Taro Burger is amazing. One of the best veggie burgers I've ever had!! And the gluten free bread is also some of the best I've ever had. Tried this place out for the first time! I am a health junkie and its always exciting to try a new place that has a healthier spin on them! When I arrived the place seem pretty packed and there was super loud music. The really loud music made it hard to talk and to order. But we got a place outside so we could actually talk. My boyfriend ordered the BLAT which he loved, 10 out of 10! The bread was super fresh and the sauce was so good. I ordered the pad thai and it was very underwhelming. It seemed more like a pasta salad. Doesn't give the vibe of pad Thai other than some nuts on top. Wouldn't recommend ordering this if you're craving pad Thai! I also ordered the lavender latte. This drink isn't a latte, it's a cold brew with milk and flavor, not espresso. So it's stronger, wouldn't have order if I knew. Overall it was a good experience but it didn't pass the vide check....will probably not be back. read more

Located near the Lahaina DMV and Mahina, so when I saw the sign 'MOKU ROOTS COMING SOON' a month or so ago, I got VERY excited for the opening. For my first visit I decided on Taro Burger and the Lavender Lemonade Elixir. I ordered it to be taken out and I MUST list the details of their packaging. They don't provide to-go cups, but there is the option to charge you for a mason jar, with the disclaimer that you can get it refunded if you return. Pretty smooth. The burgers were wrapped in luau and ti leaves tied with a hau or banana cord. Such clever and eco friendly packaging! Just that alone got me so giddy. Returning back to the burger, I bought two Taro Burgers, but the one I got was not what I ordered....but I lucked out because it was so EXTRA! It had avocado and cheese, LOVE. Yummy! With or without the EXTRA, each bite of the Taro Burger was an absolute burst of fresh flavored 'delishness'! And quenching it with my slightly sweet, nicely tangy Lavender Lemonade...Just Simply, WOW!! (FYI, they are closed on Mondays.) read more

I fell in love with this place, not only is it all vegan, and they have some great alternatives, the buffalo cauliflower wrap was superb. But it is not only about the food here, they are a zero waste restaurant, and that is not easy, no paper napkins, no plastic straws, wish more restaurants put this much effort into helping the environment as Maku Roots. We are a couple who one is completely vegan and the other is vegan most of the time. When we go to places, the first thing we search on Yelp is vegan places. We were beyond ecstatic to see the tasty menu at this place and the variety of options. Food: Tasty, delicious, decent portion sizes. The quality of food is superb. The variety of food is wonderful. We came here on two different occasions; between the occasions, we got the buffalo wrap, Cali wrap, sushi of the day (brown rice, bell peppers, pineapple, sprouts), taro burger, roasted broccoli with "cheeze," and kombucha. All of the food was tasty and had high quality ingredients. Our favorites were the buffalo wrap and taro burger. Service: The first time we came in was decent service. The cashier was friendly and patient. The second time we came in was the problem. We came in around 6pm for dinner on 6/12. The cashier was a woman with a blonde bun and she was not friendly at all; we were taking our time on the menu (the menu can also be very confusing with the chalk board having so many different colors and the words close together - it's aesthetically pleasing but not logical/efficient), and our cashier didn't say hi, all she said was, "What can I get you" in a bothersome voice. When I asked a question about the sides they have, without saying a word, she rudely just pointed to the menu. The whole time talking to her, we felt rushed (by the way, nobody was behind us), like a bother, and were treated rudely. We figured perhaps she was having a bad day, but we saw her happily talking to another woman after we had ordered and sat down. So we are boggled as to why we were treated this way. Even though it's quality food, we made the decision to not come back here for the remainder of our trip. Would we still recommend? Yes, because it's a conscious place with quality vegan food, but your service can vary greatly. As you can see, within our two visits, we gave a lot of business to this place, but we have also gone to A'a roots twice and not only is the food high quality there as well, they also have very upbeat and friendly service consistently. read more

What a great vegan spot in our little corner of the world. I had two small plates: Rasta Pasta and Hummus with naan bread made with ulu. Lahaina is so hot and this duo was a perfect choice for lunch. The "pasta" was zucchini noodles in three bundled piles each with its own amazingly delicious sauce. It was served chilled which was so perfect on a sunny day. The naan bread made with ulu was dense and toothsome beautifully spread 'round a mound of hummus along with freshly sliced cucumbers, pink starburst radish (that's what it looked like) and carrots. Went the other day while I was in Lahaina, and I'm glad I did! There is a great atmosphere and some cool books to read while you enjoy your food or drinks. They are an eco friendly store which was really nice to see. Their lavender lemonade was amazing and came with a straw made from a papaya stem (it doesn't taste weird or anything). They use coffee ice cubes for their iced coffee which was nice. Staff was friendly and more than happy to explain a few things on the menu. read more

I heard about this place when I was researching things to do in Maui. It was mentioned in a completely unrelated YouTube video about snorkeling lol. I like supporting vegan restaurants so figured I'd give it a try on my way from Lahaina to Kihei. I was pleasantly surprised. I think they recently started doing dine in again. There were several parties seated but I was able to grab a table outside. I ordered the Benny Burger which is a special type of taro burger. I had never had a taro burger before but it was delicious! I also ordered a pumpkin spice smoothie that was on the specials of the day. Also delicious. Besides the food being good I love that they are all about sustainability. Everything here is eco friendly and sustainable including napkins, straws, to go containers, etc. Im sure that the turtle I saw while snorkeling this morning will appreciate that. So excited to find this plant-based eatery, which puts the vegan restaurants in our hometown of Seattle to shame. On Christmas Day we were greeted warmly (as was everyone else who came in) and speedily served a truly delicious "holiday sampler" platter of housemade seitan with gravy, stuffing, candied yams, mac & cheese (incredible sauce!), green beans and a fresh-baked roll. We also had a mixed veges and kale salad that came piled high, topped with a delicious nut melange, and perfectly coated in a flavorful dressing. Everything exceeded my expectations and the restaurant's total commitment to sustainability is admirable. Its diverse clientele reflects the fact that food this tasty and fresh appeals to everyone.
