This place is awesome. My wife and I checked this place out early Sunday afternoon. Just walk in and sit anywhere and they'll come right over to take your drink order. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive - a local high school student starting college this fall, I overheard her telling another customer who seemed to be a regular. I had coffee with cream, they brought an individual-sized metal pitcher of cream, which is great because I like it pretty heavy on the cream (pun intended), and I thought the coffee was all right. Better than I expected, though nothing super fancy, it seemed fresh and tasty. I think it was $2 for bottomless. The menu has a good variety of breakfast & lunch items. I had the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuit and gravy (all for under $7) and my wife had pancakes & bacon with eggs. I generally am not a fan of pancakes, but I tried hers and they were amazing. I will definitely get them for myself sometime. They were just sweet enough, but still savory and the whipped butter was so good. I plan to start coming at least once a week for breakfast, I'm really happy to have found a good diner nearby. It's just 2-3 minutes from Kroger if you know the area. Someone said the water tasted funny in an older review, I'm pretty sensitive to water flavor and I actually thought it was pretty good. It seemed better than the water at my house just up the road. I like diners like Le Peep, and Benedict's, but they can feel a little too posh sometimes, if that makes any sense. A diner in the middle of Carrollton? Yes, oh yes. The no-nonsense waitstaff and probably-fried-with-lard fare is fantastic. I had the oatmeal with brown sugar, which was probably made with full fat cream, but I told myself it was made with skim milk, it was heavenly. We love Mom's! We've been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The only thing we've had (actually my husband ordered it) that wasn't tasty was the fajita lunch special. I've been to Mom's almost a hundred times. My mother and father in law live in the neighborhood right behind and have been coming there for years. Even my little brother worked there in high school! Very small and crowded inside. I had to keep moving my chair out of the way. The food was not bad though. The biscuits were not very good though they were kind of hard. The wait staff was very friendly though and never did my coffee get cold. They have some young people there as waiters and they were very energetic and always there to clean up your plate and refill your coffee cups. This is not going to be a good review. When me and my fiancee it was pretty busy for a Sunday morning at 11:00am but it did not start to go wrong till I ordered my Diet Coke with no ice (I do that because it is already cold out of the dispenser and the ice melts and changes the carbonization by watering it down and I can't have that). When the blonde female waitress brought back my drink I noticed there was ice in it so she said "Oh I did not hear that". No apology, just an excuse and it took her a good 5 minutes or so to bring my drink back not a fresh one but the same drink that had been sitting there with ice melting it. I watched as she poured out part of the Diet Coke to remove the ice and refill the rest. Thats not service that is disservice, how lazy and cheap do you have to be to not replace a drink and why could she not just redo the drink quickly before going to take care of others tables first. She should get a better education in the hospitality of waitressing. Plus the food was not great and we were charged a surcharge for a side that they asked if we wanted, they did not say it was extra only would you like hash or country potatoes. I had breakfast here on Saturday mornings a few times. I always get scrambled eggs, pototoes, and toast. They are pretty consistent in food, but then again how hard is it to mess up eggs and toast. Decent food, cheap prices. If you're looking for fancy schmancy decor, you won't find it here. It's like a nice quiet clean vfw place with lots of older folks. I always see senior citizens here. I was excited to find a home cooking restaurant close by but for a place called "Mom's Cafe" I've never felt less welcome in my life. We got there well over an hour before close and there were just two other couples and the four of us. This was at 6:45pm on Tuesday. We couldn't decide if we wanted to order from the breakfast or dinner menu but the waitress just seemed impatient and put out. The food arrived rather quickly but was adequate at best. My wife said her chicken fried chicken was good but I'm pretty sure my chicken fried steak was frozen Tyson's from Wal Mart. Cheese omelet and pancakes were good but then everything got weird. At 7:25 it was like someone cast a spell on the place. We would have ordered dessert but they shut down the kitchen, brought our check, and started watching the clock. We were the only ones still in the restaurant. We were actually there when the reviewer Gt G came in at 7:30 and were appalled by how rude the waitress was. She turned him away and said they were closed. After he left she turned off the "OPEN" sign. This was a full 30 minutes before the posted close time. After that the attention shifted back to us and why we were still taking up space in the restaurant. The waitress put her purse on the counter and I think even had her keys in her hand. After reading all the great reviews I had high hopes for this place but it appears that they're circling the drain. read more
