This is a quaint and obviously well-loved local spot with good reason. I prioritize stopping here for at least one meal every time I'm in town, and it is the perfect setting for catching up with family or friends. Across from Chico State and Transit Bus Relay this is an institution for stands, parents, and our friends to have that perfect breakfast or lunch when I attended and right up till graduation. As a server myself I know how hard it can be to be triple sat but this chick did not break a sweat. Service was top notch and timely. She was kind, prompt and receptive to our needs. We arrived around 8:30 on a Tuesday morning. It wasn't too busy, but I think that is due to Chico State not being in session right now. I have been in the area during the semester and it is always packed. This is such a cute restaurant. It is dedicated to moms. The decor is adorable. I especially love the phone booth that demands you call your mother immediately. I ordered the "this little piggy" omelette with a biscuit and sautéed spinach. I added jalapeños, as is my usual. This was a pretty good omelette. The jalapeños are fresh, so beware of the spice factor if you do the same. The coffee was good diner coffee. Metered parking across the street in the public parking lot made this place very accessible. Came in on a Friday morning around 11AM and it was jam-packed...a pretty good sign that this place was a good choice. We ordered the caprese omelette, which was a special for the day, and the stuffed cream cheese french toast. The caprese omelette was very light and provided a good medley of flavors from the tartness of the tomatoes and the subtle richness of the mozarella. It wasn't really a stand-out omelette but if you're wanting something on the lighter side and it's available, definitely check it out. We added a bunch of hot sauce to spice it up because it was too bland for our taste but I'm sure other people aren't as needy as I am. The stuffed cream cheese french toast was absolutely delicious. If you're a huge lover of cream cheese in desserts, this should be a dish that gets served to your table. The brioche bread is perfectly cooked and the cream cheese was decadent in a way that wasn't too overwhelming. The only thing that could've made this dish perfect would be if they served fresh strawberries with it! That would have definitely cut through the richness of the filling. While this wasn't my favorite brunch place in Chico, it was my friend's and we've both agreed that on my next trip up, we'll probably come back here for their french toast (and bring along our own berries to top it off). read more

Finally tried Mom's after multiple visits to Chico! The long wait always scared me away but it turned out to be worth it. We had a large group of 8 and hung around the bar while waiting for our table. My group was pretty rowdy so I'm glad they put up with us. While they don't have bottomless mimosas they have bottles of champagne for purchase at $15 each with fresh squeezed orange juice :) Our server was very nice and attentive! I ordered the American breakfast and my favorite part were the potatoes they were so good! All of my friends seemed to enjoy their food as well. Today we experienced a pull on your heart strings moments at Mom's My husband and I lost our home in the Camp Fire. All we have is our dog and the clothes on our back. We decided to treat ourselves to a nice breakfast. Immediately thought of moms as they have outside seating. Unfortunately the outside seating was closed, but they opened it up for us so we didn't have to leave our dog in the car. We had a very nice normal breakfast. Which right now is hard to come by and it felt so nice. When we asked for the check our server said there isn't one. "You guys have so much going on and so much to worry about breakfast shouldn't be one of this problems" We didn't say anything to our server or ask for a handout. Came around 1pm on a Sunday, and it was a 15 mins wait for our table for 3. Their customer service was really good. Everyone was friendly, and our waitress was attentive. Atmosphere had that family-owned diner feel, which works for them. I had the chicken and waffles (5 of 5): their waffle is not as deep as a traditional Belgian waffle, so I was able to evenly spread the butter. The chicken had a good tasty crispy. They also give you a jalapeño honey (not spicy) as the syrup. The others had the special (turkey back hash) and the breakfast scramble. Both of them said it was pretty good. I grew up in a Vietnamese household where who can tolerate the most spice contests were a daily affair - I order "as spicy as you can make it" at every curry place I go to. I have been here many times throughout the years and have never had a complaint. The food was always really good and great service. Today was the first time that it was kind of bad and I was astonished. I took my boyfriend there because he had never been. We both loved the food, but it took 20 minutes to get our waters, over 30 minutes to be acknowledged to order. Obviously a really popular place, as they were pretty busy and seemed a little overwhelmed with the amount of customers. Breakfast/brunch places are usually like this on a Sunday morning, so it's kind of surprising when a restaurant still can't handle that crowd. A group of 4 of us asked to be seated outside; we noticed that there were a couple of open tables on the patio, so we figured it wouldn't be an issue. However, we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. Puzzling. We agreed to sit inside since we were pretty hungry. The menu has plenty of options, and we later find out that the portions are HUGE. I started off with a Bloody Mary. Definitely not one of the better ones that I've had - the mix was a little too watery for my taste and even though I asked for it spicy, it was a little lacking in that area. Although, props for all of the "extras" - olives, celery, peperoncino, lemon, pearl onion, and jalapeno. I decided to go with the huevos rancheros tostada for my breakfast. Instead of the normal soft corn tortilla, they are cooked up crispy (and mine might have been a little overcooked since they had taken on more of a brown color). The tortillas are topped with eggs, beans, pepper jack, ranchero sauce, and a creamy chipotle sauce. All this is served with a side of yukon gold potatoes. Like I said early, this is a huge portion of food. Overall, this was decent, but nothing spectacular. I would have like a little more spice throughout. When it came time to pay, we asked our waitress to split the check into four, split by meal, not split 4 ways equally. She came back with 4 incorrect checks - it's like she just mixed and matched all of our food and drinks. When we finally waved her down again, we explained that they were wrong and she quickly got us new ones. We already had our cards/cash out, so we said we'd pay right then instead of her leaving again. But I guess we didn't hear us, because she left the table and we were left waiting once again for her to make her way back to us. Finally, once we paid and she brought us our change, she had rounded some checks up and some checks down, so the change was all wrong - not by much, and definitely not enough to make a stink about, but we just thought it was weird. Overall, just an ok breakfast at an ok restaurant. Not something I'd be adamant about coming back to next time I'm in Chico, but also not something I'd be totally opposed to coming to again. read more

I keep wanting to have a good experience here, but continue to be disappointed. Today, I tried a to go order of a Steakhouse Salad which offered "homemade dry rub seasoned steak." I called in my order at 12:17, was told it would be ready at the bar in 15 minutes. I showed up at 12:35, walked to the bar, and was not greeted for a couple of minutes even though 3 waitresses walked past me. Guess what? When I was finally greeted, I found out that my order wasn't ready. The girl said it would be right up...no apology, no offer of a drink while I waited...nothing. It was finally ready at 12:47, a full half hour later. And that steak? Try more like steak medallions that were tender, yes, but bland as hell. I don't think there was a lick of spice up on there. This may be my last trip. You would think that management *hint hint* would read these reviews and work on the opportunities for improvement--food temperature, service, etc. Hopefully, they will. This place was great!! We spent the day in Chico handing out food to the homeless fire victims, and before we left town to head home, we decided to get something to eat ourselves. I had the kids pick the place online they thought sounded best. They picked Mom's. I didn't realize, but they were due to shut down the kitchen about 3 minutes after we walked in. I offered to leave so they could close down, but they had us sit down and order. I'm so glad they did! The service was top notch and the food was DELISH! All of us loved it. I had the Eggs Benedict without ham and it was awesome! Their Hollandaise sauce had just the right kick to it, and the potatoes were to die for!
