It's growing quickly yet it's a sweet quiet area from a thriving town. No crazy hustle and crowds! Burban Kitchen is very trendy with an open concept. They have a dog friendly patio! The angry mussels are delicious ! Seared Ahi bigger dish is fresh and flavorful! High quality ! They also have happy hour. It's a good date place! Contemporary and inviting! Fun atmosphere! The warm beet salad is practically a meal for two. Same with the calamari, which we could not finish! (My friend isn't crazy for the spices used in the calamari breading and dip, but I liked it okay.) Leave room for dessert. We recommend the cheesecake! Seating inside is intimate. There were only a few parties when we were there but I could imagine if the place was hopping, acoustics would be iffy. Sit at the bar to watch all the action behind the scenes. Outside seating is available and dogs are welcome there. Shoutout to our waitress Ellie!

The carpet in particular is somewhat outdated and very dreary. We were seated right away with an evening reservation. Our server was the most delightful, helpful as well as professional person. She definitely made for an enjoyable experience. The menu is nicely broad with some very good and interesting selections. For an appetizer I selected the Alsatian Tarte Flambe. With the description of a "tarte" plus "puffed pastry" I was somewhat surprised when what looked like a flatbread arrived. Although somewhat true to the description I expected something like a cup shaped pastry. It was delicious enough so no complaints over the ingredients and flavor. If anything it tasted a bit top heavy with vinegar, yet still enjoyable. I washed it down with a Schramsberg Prosecco which was a perfect accompaniment. For an entree I choose the Grilled 6oz Petit Tender (medium rare) with asparagus and scalloped potatoes topped by a red wine and berry sauce. It was excellent, flavorful with the meat very tender. I was very pleased. It was an abundant portion so I was quite full after consuming it. My dining companion had the grilled meatloaf with ground filet mignon and pork sausage. It is baked and then grilled. I tried some and it is EPIC. It has to be one of the best meatloaf preparation I ever tasted. Bravo on this dish! We shared a bottle of Tempranillo to accompany it which was perfect. For dessert we shared a nice and refreshing mint chocolate chip ice cream which was generously comped as we were there for a special occasion. Thank you! I would definitely return and try other dishes, although the meatloaf is a must standout. Overall a very good experience.

She kinda shrugs us off with a parting comment, "we stop seating at 1:30." News to me, we've been coming here for five plus years and always between 1:30 and 2:00 pm. Never ever had a problem or had anyone tell us about this 1:30 pm seating rule. Ok. But I show her my phone. "it's 1:30 now" and she just shrugs and says sorry. Disappointed, we cruise over to The Farmers Skillet located a few miles away in Chico on Rio Lindo. We strolled in at 1:50 pm, noting they also close at 2 pm. I ask politely if we are too late even though our hostess already has two menus in her hand and a smile on her face. "Not at all," she exclaims and then says "Welcome". Service there was warm, and unhurried. The Roost could learn a lesson here. If your 24/7 policy is to stop serving half an hour prior to closing then it should be posted, and door locked maybe? I know Deja Vu (also in Chico, on the Esplanade) closes at 2 pm and they have the CLOSED sign up with door locked at 1:45 pm. We shan't be returning. Very disrespectful and unnecessary. IF in fact that IS the policy of this diner and not just the whim of a lazy student/hostess then we should still have been seated. It was 1:30 pm as we entered. Shame on management. Know your staff and make sure they are operating with YOUR agenda and priorities, not theirs.

Finally... there is a great breakfast breakfast place in downtown Chico. My first impression of the new restaurant was wow they really brightened this place up. It has a very unique feel to it. There were a bunch of pictures of Mom's on the walls and on the tables. I thought that was a really great idea considering it is called Mom's. All the painting's on the walls were done really well. Before I sat down I was greeted by some very friendly employees. The first thing I ordered was a coffee and it was good, I had two cups. I browsed through the whole menu and was really impressed by how many different options there were. I will definitely be coming back to try some other things on the menu. I had the Green Eggs and Ham. They were incredible. I love Eggs Benedict and it was just like that. instead of ham on the English Muffin there was spinach and instead of traditional hollandaise sauce it had a pesto version. The ham that would normally be in the Benedict was in the potatoes. It was a unique idea and tasted great. The potatoes were good and filling. My friend had a Crepe, I think it had Ham Asparagus in it and I tried a bite it was also very good. I will have to get that next time I go in there. All the food tasted fresh. It was nice and warm in there, I felt very comfortable. I sat by the window in the front and wanted to browse around a bit so I did. It looks like they added a skylight in there that was not there when it was the Black Crow. It made that back room really open up. There were a bunch of nice paintings and pictures of Mom's in there. It definitely had a Victorian theme in there. All in all I was impressed with the decor and the food and will go in there again soon. I can't wait to try lunch items in the future. Yum Yum read more

I will never go back to this restaurant again. One of the members of our party has celiac disease and therefore cannot eat gluten AT ALL!!!! We were told which items were gluten-free, which included the ceasar salad without croutons. Fine. We ordered that salad just to find that the intelligent folks in the kitchen just removed the croutons from an already made ceasar salad. This will not do for anyone who has an allergy or is a celiac patient. If you say it is gluten free, it must be just that. There cannot be any cross contamination. Educate your staff people!!! It gets worse...we ordered the next item that was gluten free, pork lettuce wraps. Obviously the kitchen didn't like the rejected ceasar salad because the lettuce wraps had hair in them that matched no one in our party. So now this person in our party has to send back her second item. The server did ask if there was anything else she could offer, but we would not risk the fact that no one of any intelligence worked in the kitchen. We were not charged for the contaminated items, however, we were overcharged for our drinks. One extra glass of wine, which they were out of anyway, so how can we be charged for it. Upon leaving, the staff from the kitchen made sarcastic comments in our direction as we exited. What a joke!! I wish we had not paid any of the bill. Owners need to give a hard look at who they have working in the kitchen. If nothing on your menu is really "gluten-free" then don't advertise it as such just to fit in to some trendy diet that some people have adopted for fun. For others this is a SERIOUS health issue. I will be contacting the health department and any other agency that exists to protect my family member from a serious health hazaard. read more

I hate to express my deep disappointment after my recent visits to Mom's, a place our family has cherished for years. Over our last 5 visits, it's been heartbreaking to witness a decline in both food quality and service. Today, family members visiting from out of town were particularly excited to eat at Mom's. While the food arrived promptly, it was missing the garnishes we've always enjoyed, such as fruit and pickles. Additionally, the extra toppings we ordered--avocado and aioli--were not included. Throughout our meal, we felt neglected; no staff checked on us for drink refills or to see if we needed anything, especially since the restaurant was not packed as it usually is. When I waited for the server to bring the missing avocado, she only returned to deliver the check, which still included charges for those extras. When I inquired about the missing toppings, I was told the kitchen was closed--despite it being only 1:13 PM. The server was only "able" to refill iced tea and water. While I appreciated the adjustment to remove the avocado charge (without asking), the overall experience left us disheartened. We paid our bill and left a tip as we always do, but it pains me to think this may be our last visit. It's truly upsetting to see such a beloved place fall short of its former standards. I only write this review hoping Mom's can address these issues and restore the quality we once loved. read more

I was completely shocked by how nice it was in there. I really enjoyed the Victorian feel in there. We sat in the back right under the skylight and right by the fireplace which was lit and warm. I actually felt like I was at home for a short time, except no one at my house waits on me like they did at Mom's. LOL The first thing I had was the fresh squeezed orange juice and man was it good. I don't think I have had real fresh squeezed OJ in my life and it was delicious. I also had a cup of coffee which was also good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was a hearty meal. I don't normally order such a large plate of food but I was hungry and it really hit the spot. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. The Biscuits were moist and the gravy was perfect. It seems every other place in Chico that has biscuits and gravy, the biscuits are always dry and hard, not the case at Mom's at all. I went there with 3 of my friends and they were all very satisfied with their meals. They all ordered bloody Mary's to drink which were also very good according to them. I plan on trying one next time we go in. It was fantastic. We all plan on going again next weekend. read more

I was browsing through some of my old reviews and noticed this was filtered and no one could see it. So I will re-post it/ "I love this breakfast place. First of all Mom's has the largest breakfast menu in Chico. There is guaranteed to be something for everyone here. Also on of the only places I can think of with crepes. I love the Chicken fried steak which I did not order but my friend did and tried some it was so good I will definitely get that next time, but I usual go for the benedicts there are a few different kinds on the menu. The Florentine which is a little on the healthier side with spinach and tomato. I think they have like 5 different kind. Which is great news for me, because benedicts are my favorite thing to order. There is one with chicken apple sausage which I have not tried yet, but how could you go wrong with that. The potatoes on the side of the breakfast are my favorite in Chico. The fresh squeezed OJ also gives moms some bonus points in my book. Like I said Mom's has a large enough menu to fit any group of people there are a ton of unique items on there menu. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Terrible management and food. The sausage that they gave me was totally burnt, and they didn't even tell me that it was spicy. The server spilled an omelette, sausage and potatoes all over my son, and now his pants have grease stains all over it. Then, they didn't even clean up the huge mess they made, so we were sitting in food. Next, they gave me a new omelette, that was undercooked. After all of this, the manager, Kammie, only wanted to give me $3 off!! Seriously?!?! So I finally had to talk to her and she finally decided to comp the omelette, and only the omelette. Lastly, Kammie decides to give me 2 free appetizers for dinner, just so I would come back and spend more money. I can't believe all of this, I just thought that I needed to write this review. To clarify, the servers were all nice, just very disappointed with management. The server who spilled was very nice, and said that she would even buy my son new shorts, but that's management responsibility, not the waitresses. Kudos to her. I would not recommend the nasty $6,200 corn beef hash with a side of fecal matter. this happen a while ago. I shattered a tooth on Mom's corn beef hash... While in the bathroom for my tooth. I watched a cook leave the stall after using the stall's full services with out washing his hands. I go to the manager and inform her about this and that I shattered my tooth. She leaves and talks to the cooks. She informs me that he washed his has in the kitchen. I told her servesafe rules are he needs to wash them before returning to work not before cooking again. I watched him touch all this stuff out here and then the door to the kitchen. Now it is all covered in fecal matter and needs to be washed. She refused to wash it and started to chew me out. She made use pay for the food we did not eat. I had to wait 2 days to get the shattered tooth removed. Because this tooth was removed it caused problems and now to fix it I had to remove more teeth and get braces. So one bite of corn beef hash will cost me $6,200. read more

Mom's is kitschy. There are all kinds of knick-knacks all over the restaurant that, like an Applebees, have little to do with the restaurant itself. Sweet plows and other random things litter the walls. The phone booth for calling your own mom on the restaurant's dime is thoughtful. The old fruit-co-op advertisements recreated as paintings are wonderful to look at - they're the best part of the decor, in my opinion. The service at Mom's is really good. All of the wait staff are friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to make a customer feel welcome and comfortable. The food is great, if a little heavy on the potatoes. The entrees are inventive and delicious, and even seeming standards like the turkey sandwich are delightful and, frankly, awesome. So, while folks on Yelp might get a bit uppity about the decor or the more advanced fare, Mom's is a great place to go. You should check it out for yourself. read more

This was my second visit to Mom's. About the same as the first, they can not cook eggs to order. I always order my eggs over hard and both times they arrived runny. This time they broke all of the yolk and still could not cook them the way they were ordered. I explained to our waitress that they were not as ordered and she apologized, and offered to fix them. I choses to skip the eggs and concentrate on the potatoes, sausage and english muffin. As before the potatoes where okay but more of a mix between country potatoes and mashed as they obviously boiled them instead of cooking them on a flattop all the way. Imagine my surprise when the check arrived and it was for full price!! The manager who was seen walking the dinning room never even came to the table to apologize. Needless to say they do not get nor deserve a third visit. Not the way Mom did it for sure! read more

My first experience dining at Mom's was underwhelming, but I figured it could have been just an "off" night. Sadly, my second visit was not any better. This was a Thursday night about 6:00PM and the restaurant looked to have only a few other diners. We went with as a party of six, so some ordered from the $5 happy hour menu and some ordered from the regular menu or specials. The meal took over 45 minutes for everyone to be serviced after ordering. By the time the last entree was delivered the other meals were cold. The last two items were pasta and fish, neither should take long to prepare. It could be just a ploy so you order more of their pricey drinks of which the gin & tonic could have used some gin. As for the food flavor, it was just OK but seemed very overpriced for the portions served. We will not go back. read more

Mom's is definitely my favorite spot in Chico for breakfast and lunch. As a mother of 2 young children, I will say that this restaurant is extremely kid friendly. Great kids menu and fun toys to entertain the kids while you wait for your food! The food is fabulous. I have eaten there about 8 times and will say that I have been happy and full each time. For breakfast, I would recommend the Simply Nuts pancake, biscuits and gravy, or the Green Eggs and Ham. The green eggs and ham is a delicious spin off of a Benedict. For lunch, you can't go wrong with the tomato soup and Parmesan crusted grilled cheese or the Greek veggie wrap. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! ummmm all these people are trippin. amazing bloody marys and drinks. their benedicts are fantastic. veggie hash, BLAT, green eggs and ham, omlettes, EVERYTHING is good and quality. the service is actually very good i dont know when the last time these people went but they now have a policy that guarantees your food in 25 mins or less or something like that. free dum dum pops, can you ask for more? These people must be restaraunt snobs, you know the ones that send their food back if its not piping hot and burning their mouth, yea calm down. I have gone in there many times with tables of 10-13 and we all always get taken care of. trust me this place is worth it. LOVE IT! read more

I've been here mutiple times. Breakfast is okay but don't come for lunch. The service is extremely slow and everything on their menu is over priced. Also everytime I've gone here I've noticed that the silverware and glasses are aways dirty. The last time I came for lunch there were food particles literally caked onto my fork. I tried to scratch it off and it didn't budge. Gross! There was lipstick on one of the coffee mugs as well. I don't think I'll ever go back to Mom's because the last time I went I got the pesto pasta dish and one drink and was throwing up within an hour. It was awful. Sorry Mom's, never again. read more

Every time my family comes to visit they ask to go to Mom's for breakfast. I haven't tried the lunch or dinner yet, but breakfast is always delicious. My favorites are the 4 different Eggs Benedicts. They have a traditional one, a bacon lovers, one with champagne infused hollandaise, and a pesto one for vegetarians! The only problems I've had is that sometimes it can be hard to get the attention of the staff (even when it's slow) and it's definitely not college student prices. I wish there was a good breakfast place like this that was: 1. close to campus and 2. affordable. read more

I recently went to Mom's with some friends and we all had a great time. We were quickly ushered to our seat and I started off with a glass of orange juice that was so good. There were so many options to choose from. I settled on the "Cajun Chicken" which had a little bit of spice to it, which I love. The steak fries that came with it were also delicious. This place is great to go if you have children! I went with my out of town friend and her 3 school age children and they loved it. They gave a little "activity packet" to each child that kept them occupied while waiting for the food. The staff are very kind, helpful, very attentive, and proactive about the needs of both the adults and children at the table....and the food choices were many! There were so many choices, i couldn't decide! I decided to get the nutella pancakes because i had a sweet tooth.. mmm sooo good. but very sweet. I actually liked the green eggs and ham even more tho(I stole some from my brothers plate). My favorite part was the phone booth inside the restaurant where you can call your mom, no matter where she is. I took my nephew into the phonebooth, and we called grandma. This place sucks. The location is the only reason it stays so busy---everything is microwaved and the wait staff is pretty slow. There are plenty of other authentic breakfast places in Chico that actually put their time into customizing meals instead of pulling stuff out of the freezer to heat up. Side note--I have NO CLUE how they afford to stay open for dinner. It's ridiculously expensive and ALWAYS slow. I went in on Valentines day with my girlfriend. She had the jalapeño scramble and i had the BLT. Mom's has the best steak fries in Chico. Period. The BLT kicked ass. I never had a BLT with a garlic sauce on it, it was wonderful and the best BLT i can ever remember having. The bacon was SO good and perfectly layered where there was a perfect taste in every bite. They were surprised but said they would look closely at everything to make sure everything was safe and sanitary. (And yes, I did call to let them know when I confirmed it was not them.)
