Very good! The owner seated us and made sure we were comfortable. Fresh bread with roasted peppers tomatoes and onions were a welcome start. Our entire meal was delicious. From the escarole soup , house salad with a delicious homemade dressing. To our entrees .Veal saltimbocca and veal parmigiana. Good size portions we were able to take some home. The owner is a crook. His website has a menu with prices but when you go to pick up your to go order everything is $2-$3 more. When I called him on the discrepancy, he told me I was wrong and asked an employee to check on his phone. When the employee said I was right, he got angry and cursed me out. If you order food to pick up, check the price on their website, then see what you're charged. I've only went to Monalisia for lunch just because that's the only time my schedule permits it. There's one and only one reason I'm docking a star and it's because the lunch menu is smallish, and their list of hot vegetarian entrees is very small. It makes it hard for me to go there with my mom who is vegetarian. I share that because I think this is the only time in my life I ever docked a star because my statement is "I want to give this place more of my money but can't" haha. The food, so long as there's something on the menu for you, is absolutely frickin amazing. You can visibly see the heart of this small business every time you come there, that they aren't there to make a buck but sincerely want to make tremendous food. When I was last there, the lunch came with bread and peppers + onions, as well as a salad. Rumor on the street is that the peppers and onions aren't included anymore, but the lunch is still a great deal. The pasta was perfectly cooked, with tremendous flavor -- a far cry from your average take out place or most chain Italian places who value consistency over flavor. First time here and very disappointed. I ordered salmon with lobster ravioli and there were no ravioli. They gave me cold penne with a dash of sauce and cheese. The whole reason I ordered it was the ravioli. The server was sort of slow and totally forgot our salad course. My friend got the chicken Marsala and wasn't impressed. Probably won't be returning. Went here for dinner without reservation on Sunday night. Walked in and we were greeted by a waitress. She asked if we had a reservation and we said no. It was about 5:30pm , she said she could seat us at 7pm, we looked around and there were at least 6 tables empty. We said no thank you and left and went to another restaurant were we were seated right away. Food is good, but many restaurants in SJ have very good Italian dishes. Firstly my hostess was rude, and told me I had to reserve a seat and was turning me away until she looked at my girlfriend and said "oh it's fine, but next time make a reservation", and I was immediately seated. Later food was bland and was not the same description from the menu. When I tried to ascertained what the menu stayed would be in the dish she said I had to pay extra for add ons( which I was explaining that the meal did not come as described in the menu). I had dinner at Monalisia last evening. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. We had 6:30 reservations and were immediately seated when we arrived. Hostesses were so welcoming. Our server, and I apologize for not remembering her name, was excellent. Very attentive and explained all the specials beautifully. For appetizers we chose stuffed long hots and bacon wrapped sea scallops. Healthy portions and both delicious. Our entrees consisted of the Stuffed Pork chop, (a special that night) which was wonderful, and comes along with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Our other entree was Veal Abruzzi -- spectacular. Dessert, and we had to order two because the special was a peanut butter chocolate cheesecake. All in all a fabulous evening. It's BYOB so we did. We sat for 2 hours and never once felt rushed. So rudest people ever. I was to attend a business meeting here today. The company I was meeting with has reserved several meetings a week until August. Today, after being treated rudely from the moment the company arrived they were forced to leave. After the first meeting of the day the company expected the second meeting to receive a clean table and were denied and actually ask to leave. Myself and my husband and another attendee had driven over a half hour to get there and the company representative was forced to tell us we could not meet there. Let me say at this time it was two hours after the lunch hour and the restaurant had only two tables occupied. They had plenty of room to accommodate us. So they have now alienated the family and friends of all four of us and now all those reading this post. I feel this was a racist action as some involved were people of color. If you believe all should be welcomed boycott this place. By the way we moved to the other end of the strip mall to Milano Pizza. They were so gracious and welcoming and provided us with a place to hold our meeting and a wonderful lunch. The company will be moving all their meetings to Milano who has agreed to host all the meetings! Go to Milano instead!! read more

Been here twice. Love the calamari appetizer. Salads are good. We got the chicken Parmesan, Shrimp scampi, Pasta with Vodka sauce and they're all good. Their portions are big. I was extremely impressed. This is an excellent Italian BYOB. I was very happy when my chicken saltimbocca came out pounded thin with a thin slice of prosciutto and authentic brown sauce. This place was a nice surprise. It's located in a little strip mall on Corkery Rd. It has a great little atmosphere with very friendly service. We went on a Thursday night which meant that the dining room was not full and the 4 course special (available Mon - Thur) was in play. The food here is really good. Our table enjoyed many menu items including the mussels, the steak, the eggplant parm, the chicken parm, the warm bread, the salad with homemade salad dressing and others. The lobster bisque is not to miss. I almost don't want to post a review because this place is a hidden gem that I could see being so popular in the future that it would create long wait times and dampen my experience. It makes great sense to call in with a reservation. Also this place stops seating before their published closing time so plan to get there a bit earlier. I had the 4 course special for $21.95 which is a great value. Had Mussels as appetizer, Chicken Parm side of Penne with a house salad and a dessert. Took one of my friends there for her birthday and we both loved it. We had the salad with their house dressing and it was amazing, then the mozzarella sticks for appetizer and the coating wasn't overly done and not over fried. I had the crabcakes which were all crabmeat....so delicious and my friend had the pasta with alfredo sauce and she said it was perfect. This is my favorite restaurant and I go there all the time. I recommend making reservations as they could be crowded any night of the week. I don't think it was fair for the person who gave them one star to do so because they had empty tables and wouldn't seat a walk in. That's not poor customer service that's good service to regular customers who know they have your table ready when you come for your reservation. The food is fresh, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I have never had a bad meal here. Have visited with a party of two or twelve and everything in between, everyone is always happy. You can buy wine there or BYOB. They will open your bottles, provide an ice bucket and glasses. Mimi the hostess and all the staff are excellent. Highly recommend for foodies who appreciate fine food. read more

Monalisia is definitely a 5 star restaurant with reasonable prices. The staff is simply fantastic. Though reservations are a plus it is not required. It is rare to have a Master Chef with daily inventions that are more than palatable for everyone. You must try the house salad dressing. At the time of this writing which is July 2018, stop by Monday through Thursday when there is a 4 course special, you will not be disappointed. Where to begin... The first time my fiance and I stopped by on a Friday, the place was practically empty, they said we had to have a reservation just to eat there (website does not mention this). Anyways, we said okay and came back on two separate occasions with a reservation. Food was good, but by no means fantastic, and the portions are small. This past Friday my fiance and I returned again after making a 6:00 pm reservation on Opentable to enjoy a date night for Christmas. When we arrived, on time, we were told that there was no record of our reservation (tried to show them my confirmation email, did not care to even look). They did not try to accommodate us at all and again the place was empty except for 3 tables. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We will never go here again. My tip- go to Scarpinatos- way better Italian food, also BYOB and a wonderful staff. read more

First time was decent so we tried a second time. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to stay local so we made a reservation which was an unfortunate mistake. My meal was so salty I couldn't eat it. Owner noticed I wasn't eating and asked if everything was okay. I told her the issue and she responded by saying someone also complained on same dish day prior but they apparently did nothing about it. She left to discuss with chef. After some conversing the chef decided to credit my dinner. I'm not one to complain and mistakes can happen anywhere but once they were told of the issue it drug on for a while with excuses until finally they decided to credit our bill.
