Location in a strip mall area. Hectic inside, and usually crowded. They do offer an all-you-can eat thing, but everyone at the table must order that. So we ordered off the menu and cooked some stuff. The wait staff is pretty bad, but because the food is generally high quality and u are cooking, that is not a big deal. We ordered alot of things, and just about everything was super good. Although I would say the KimChi pancake was not super good at all, was a bit lumpy and soggy and we did not eat much of that. I've attached the items we ordered. I would for sure return. read more

I give this place 3.5 stars. The beef noodle soup is pretty decent and taste like Taiwanese beef noodle soup should taste. The side dishes pair well with the food even though some of the side dish options come with very small amount. Braised pork rice seemed on the smaller side of portions, but looks maybe a bit more than what you'd get at Facing East. Some of the side dishes don't come with the lunch combo which is kind of sad, since they're all viewable near the counter. Definitely recommend coming during lunch time to take advantage of that lunch combo deal with two side dishes! read more

So glad to see Monga reopen! In the ever competitive Asian/Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant market in Seattle area, it's surprisingly hard to find a restaurant with good service, good food, affordable price, and yet not over crowded. Those gems that qualify often die in the fierce market, losing to those mediocre chains with $$$$ used for marketing. So when Monga has been closing another month, and another month, my heart tanked, wondering if those juicy chicken drumsticks, finger licking sauce, melt-in-your-mouth beef tendons, and bowl-emptying beef broths will be a memory of past. Fortunately my fears ended. Not only they re-opened, they have a much nicer interior and a bigger space. The owner still remembers us and asked us how we are doing. S ordered the MonGa combo, which is braised pork with rice (lo-rou fan), soup with pork meatballs, and two cold appetizers of your choice. The braised pork was really good -- soy saucey, sweet, and spiced from what tastes like star anise, cinnamon, maybe cloves too? Whatever. It tasted great over a bowl of steamed white rice. For appetizers, he decided to double down on the pig ears. I mean, what other choice is there? Yum. I ordered the fried chicken drumstick that came with rice, veggies, and half of a braised egg. The photos that other Yelpers posted made me want to order this. :) That chicken skin be CRISP!! The chicken tasted great with the sauce, but I could have done without the veggies because they were just cold pieces of broccoli and carrots. Might as well give me kale (hard pass). We also got a few starters: pork burger and wontons in chili oil. The pork burger had all the standard elements: juicy and flavorful slice of pork belly,finely crushed peanuts mixed with sugar, pickled veggies, and a cushy steamed bun. Writing that made me hungry, but in reality, it was just all right, especially compared to you-know-where. As for the wontons, you other Yelpers already warned me about the weird peanut sauce, and I totally agree. It wasn't my jam either. Onto the best part... dessert! We got the small combo shaved ice, which includes 3 toppings. We chose tong yuan (mini mochi balls), grass jelly (I live for it), and pineapple (it's in season somewhere in the world). The ice was mixed with brown sugar syrup, and everything was topped with sweetened condensed milk. For $13, I got the MonGa Combo, which includes Lu-Rou Fan (pork over rice), pork meatball soup, and two appetizers. It's a lot of food, and totally worth the price. For my appetizers, I ordered the braised napa cabbage and braised tofu. SUPER yummy. Would I go back? YES. Not to mention, Smacha Tea is right next door, so I can grab some milk tea and some rose or early gray cookies on my way back. The mall area this place is in bad so many places to eat, it was hard to choose! First time eating Taiwanese food. I started freaking out bc there were pigs ears on the menu! I kinda want to try them. So many mixed feelings. Thanks to Yelp tips, we were able to order without too much trepidation even though the menu doesn't have pictures or a lot of detail- pretty intimidating. We ordered the Combo #1 with the pork over rice, soup, and cabbage and cucumber sides. The cabbage was SO good, I love cooked cabbage a la st Patrick's day corned beef and cabbage, it was very similar... a little sweet. The cucumbers were marinated in a rice vinegar and sugar, the pork was fatty over rice and oh so delicious. Nice variety of flavors. The soup was cloudy... off putting to me but it tasted like egg flower soup. May have been the color that made it seem starchy. The light color pork ball in it wasn't appetizing so I didn't eat it. Tried the fried chicken leg which tasted like turkey. It had a duck spice flavor. It was delicious, the fried skin was so crispy. I was suspicious bc it seemed too big for a chicken but they reassured me it was indeed chicken. The pork bun sandwich was okay. Filling bc the dice was large but the pickled veggies were just too different looking for my taste. I'd like something crispier in there as the veggies were a little soft. Here it comes... the spicy won ton side was AMAZING. I thought they'd be fried but they came in a spicy peanut sauce broth that was so flavorful I wanted to bring it home so I could dip crusty bread it in it. I'll come back here and try one of their interesting shaved ice deserts. I was pretty excited to check this place out given their several vegan options on the menu, but I immediately became pretty sketched out when I saw that they had poached duck eggs on their "Vegan Menu." I got the tempeh burger and the bamboo shoots. The tempeh burger did not look like tempeh, and I had to ask the server if it was real meat. Both were okay. The best food and service I have ever had- hands down. Lee is a superstar! Not only did she help us order the best food on the menu she made sure we didn't over order as there are no take out boxes (not that you need them with how delicious everything was.) Local Taiwanese restaurant in crossroads. This place actually remodeled and just reopened! My personal favorites here is the fried chicken. The way they fry it is very different from traditional fried chicken. The skin is not battered like usual with a thick coating. It is rather thin but very very crispy skin. Their beef noodle soup is good, I like to get the combo for additional side dishes. However my favorites are the fried chicken leg, and braised pork with rice & bamboo. The chicken leg is one of the most popular dishes are for good reason. You'd be hard pressed to find a juicier fried chicken than this. Plus its crispy, lightly salted skin is irresistible. It's every chicken's dream to end up as the fried chicken here. This is my favorite Tawainese joint in the area. I love the pig ears and cucumber side dishes. My favorite! I have to get it every time. The broth for the bean thread noodle soup is hearty and hits the spot on rainy days. Pork buns are yummy as well. My family loves the braised pork stew. They always seem to be busy, but luckily I've never had to wait very long. Knock on wood. I love the milk tea too. Authentic and not overly sweet. I've been a long-time customer/steward of Monga and have recommended many friends and family members to eat here. However, the service has been gradually worsening, but yesterday the waitress was the rudest I've ever seen her. She was very short-tempered and impatient with me and my friends when we were ordering. I wished she would've told me they don't give out take-out boxes for dine-in leftovers (if you're not gonna offer take-out boxes, even for a small fee, at least inform your customers?), she saw I ordered many dishes, but failed to inform me. Later, when I asked for a take-out box, she told me they don't give them out for dine-in, and literally said "so finish your food or leave it" and she walked away. Looking for Chai has much better service, better portions, and better food. I'll be taking my loyalty there instead. read more

Although this is not where you'll find the ever tasty juicy pork dumpling, you will find favorites such as fried chicken, stewed pork over rice, and beef noodle soup. Compared to Facing East, their prices are MUCH MUCH lower than F.E. Smaller crowd (but then again still new so that could change), cheaper prices, and fried chicken that's BETTER than FE!! However, one thing that I wasn't fond of was their stewed pork over rice.. FE wins there! Looking for some tasty shaved ice after dinner? Check! Juicy pork belly, a heap of pickled vegetables and crushed peanuts (ask for no nuts if you're allergic!) - Beef noodle soup: 3 stars. Nothing spectacular, but I was disappointed to find only beef brisket when I specifically ordered tendon and tripe. - Pork chop noodle soup: 4 stars for the pork chop, 2 stars for the noodle. The pork chop is breaded with a flavorful crust and to my surprise, very juicy. As for the noodle soup, there is absolutely no flavor. - Hot oil wonton: 0 stars. This dish is made with a boatload of peanut sauce! I would've known better than to order it if the menu had stated it contained peanuts! - Shaved ice: 4 stars. Sometime has passed since I last ventured into MonGa. Having the wonderful pleasure of company from a few friends over dinner, we meekly walked in like the proper human beings we are. Parking is FREE; it is in a shared lot with plenty of wide space spots so it's a breeze to come without facing the atrocities of finding parking. We all know too well the dangers of it; tears are shed and faith in humanity destroyed in the process. We were seated quickly for a party of 5 on a weekday and although our waitress was quiet, she was very polite! She was very attentive and patient with us as well as we struggled to decide what we wanted from a variety of dishes. The Pork Burger (Gua Bao) is surprisingly delightful here! The braised pork belly was quite large and fatty enough with a proportional amount of meat. The braised pork stew with rice (Ru Rou Fan) was alright. The pork itself was a little dry and I felt like there could've been more pork on the rice; it was mostly sauce and tiny pieces of pork. Other than that, dinner was content! Oh and of course, what's dinner without dessert to compliment the last meal (unlikely) of the night! We gladly ordered a Large Combo 5 Topping Shaved Ice with an abundance of Red Bean drizzled with sweet milk, peanuts, Taro pieces, and Grass Jelly, topped with a small cutesy caramel Flan. My only response for this majestic ice beauty before me was why I ever settled on anything less than a 5 topping combo. I like this place a lot. It's a casual Taiwanese cafe. We ordered the beef noodle soup (half beef/half tripe), popcorn chicken, pig ear appetizer, spicy wontons, and a gua boa (pork burger). The pork burger was tasty, but not the best I've had. The pig ear appetizer brought me back to when I was a kid and my parents would always bring it home. Theirs was sliced very thinly so it wasn't too chewy and nicely spiced. The spicy wontons were good and the popcorn chicken came out hot and seasoned. The beef noodle soup was quite good. Since we just wanted something quick and easy, we just oredered a few dishes: Combo set B?: Beef noodle soup with two side dishes. This dish was pretty good, and it came with two cold side dishes. Good way to warm up from a cold night. Popcorn chicken: I always love fried chicken with fried basil leaves. They add a little spice to the chicken as well. Lu Rou Fan (braised pork over rice): This dish was pretty good at only $2.99. Eaten wih the popcorn chicken, it makes a relatively cheap meal. Overall, I would come back if I was in the area. My standard for Taiwanese food on the Eastside is Din Tai Fung or Facing East, but MonGa is a good alternative if you don't want to wait in line. read more

Let's clarify, this is shaved ICE not snow. Shaved ice is more similar to the ice used in hawaiian shaved ice, while shaved snow is shavings off an ice block. Came with a group of 8 and the large shaved ice (~$10) sufficed for a small post meal snack. The toppings we ordered were taro (4/5), grass jelly (3/5), mango (2/5), flan (4/5), and red bean (3/5). This is a really solid little Taiwanese restaurant. They have all the classics like 滷肉飯(Lu-Rou Fan), 排骨飯 (Fried pork chop with rice), 牛肉麵 (Beef noodle soup), and many more entrees and appetizers. They also have shaved ice -- which is always a favorite. I always get the Monga combo, which is lu-rou fan with two appetizers and meatball soup (貢丸湯). I love their pig ear appetizer -- it has the perfect amount of spice and is sliced nice and thin. The lu-rou fan is excellent. It has quite a bit of fatty meat, but it tastes really authentic. The shaved ice can be really sweet, but I usually ask for less condensed milk which makes it a lot less of a sugar overload. Their food seems to be a little oily, but most Chinese dishes are. Saw many photos of their shaved ice online and decided to give this place a try. It was a mistake Foodwise: chicken and the rice had little to no flavor. The shaved ice was the only thing that's good. When I ordered this I asked for two color yam balls and the waitress told me there was actually just one color, and they didn't taste anything like sweet potatoes nor taro. Service wise: they asked us if we were okay to share a table when there were plenty of tables open. We ordered 4 items total and they forgot about 2 of them. Drinks are overpriced. In conclusion: if you want Taiwanese food and desserts, go to Facing East in Bellevue or Hard Wok Cafe in Chinatown/International district. They have better food and service.
