I've had my fair share of awful Dim sum express joints, but this was (luckily) not one of those. There was a constant stream of people when I was there, and I think most of the "menu" (just paper posted on the walls) were in Chinese, so it might be helpful to already know what you want or bring a Chinese speaker here. We got a ton of food, and I think I actually liked everything we got: Har gao: Classic har gao with a classic har gao taste. The skin could be a bit thinner but it wasn't a big deal. However, I would like to note that most of their dumplings with this type of skin were rather on the thicker side. Siu mai: They're pretty heft siu mai, enough for them to put an entire shrimp on the top as a little topping/hat. This tasted delicious and the meat was very soft and juicy inside. Lo mai gai (sticky rice): I actually enjoyed this more than I thought; I usually think they're just "whatever", but the flavor on this was incredibly delicious and the filling was very juicy and soft for the most part. Some of the chicken was on the drier end, but it didn't affect the texture too much. These are also pretty giant portions. Cheung fun: We got the shrimp (classic), beef (also classic), and dried shrimp/onions. I didn't know the dried shrimp/onion one could be so delicious until I actually had this. Now it made sense why almost everyone was ordering this type of cheung fun. It was very flavorful, soft, and pleasant to eat, though I'd probably ask for extra sauce. Definitely go for the dried shrimp/onion if you want cheung fun; you will not be disappointed. The only thing is that the outside is a tad bit greasy as they do it so that the cheung fun don't stick to each other, so it's probably standard with all other dim sum places. Porridge with pork and century egg (pei dan sau yuk jook): Classic taste; mild in flavor but just enough to keep you eating...especially if you pair it with a crullers/"yau teew" (sorry, really butchering the Cantonese here). Ma lai gou: I was actually REALLY surprised with this one. It was super soft and fluffy, and the flavor was mildly sweet in a very pleasant "not too heavy" kind of way. This is probably one of my favorite dishes from everything I got here. Overall, this is a very solid joint for grabbing some quick dim sum to go. I do think it's easier to have a Chinese speaker around, and it's rather cramped inside so expect the customers to be pushing into you trying to make their way out the door. Also don't expect friendly service; they are just efficient, no frills, "no small talk" kinda folk. read more

Wonderful to see local businesses still open for take out only, especially at these strange times. We ordered a bunch of dim sum in person @7.30 am, yes they are opened that early but call to confirm, as times may change. We ordered cheung fun, shrimp n pork dumplings, glutinous rice, fu pei guen, etc. Eating Dim sum comfort food is truly appreciated. I was surprised that the dim sum here is so good! The dim sum is fresh, tasty and reasonably price for a to go place. The cheung fun was thin and filled with dried shrimp. Usually this item has a thicker noodle fun which is okay but when we bit into this, it was amazingly good. There is a line before you order, but that is true for the to go dim sum places in Chinatown. This place is on Noriega shopping area. I just happen to wander down the street from our favorite roast duck place. Im not sure if this is a chain store or there are a couple of placed with their name. It's a small storefront that is clean. The line is quick but you should know what you want before you're being serviced. But that is true with any Chinese to go dim sum place. We'll probably come here and not drive all the way to sf Chinatown for these food items. Highly recommend! read more

Dim sum is decent. I came here because it's convenient to my home. Giving them 1 star since sales person ripped me off because she got mad at me after I changed my order. Charged me $50 for an order that was half that. I don't speak Chinese, but I'm Chinese. She probably thought I wouldn't know the difference. She laughed and was nice afterwards. Not coming back. 2.5 stars. 2 for food and 1/2 for prices. The dim sum is very greasy and not high quality, but prices are quite low compared to other spots and the line out front is always long. It's a tiny little place. The reviews here are uneven so we decided to try it anyway. We weren't impressed. The steamed BBQ pork buns were almost all bread, and very salty. Ditto with the baked BBQ pork buns. The skins on the various dumplings were too thick, some grainy (dough not made properly). Soy sauce noodles had a minimum of scallions and bean sprouts but lots of soy sauce and an excess of oil. We were very thirsty and had a throbbing headache shortly after our meal, so think there must have been quite a bit of added MSG in at least one of the food items. The woman behind the counter serving us scowled the whole time -- we knew it was a hard job so we still gave a tip, but we won't be back. There are other places in this Chinatown and especially on Clement St with much higher quality dim sum. read more

CHEATERS! Although they of course charge full price, you ONLY get HALF! Don't buy from them. Their hotdog buns (wrapped in a croissant like bun on the outside) are a rip off. They cut the hot dogs in HALF lengthwise. I called the owner out on it. I told her that once customers find out your scheme, they won't come back. Impression is a hard thing to remove. The lady kept asking what else in cantonese but can't remember when I tell her each time I asked for different item. She tried to charge me over $50 for a $25 order. I asked for receipt but was ignored and then said the price was $29.80. I'm cantonese and they were speaking the same, but she kept trying to over sell me items I don't need more of. Example...I ordered I order of egg roll at 4 piece per order but kept trying to tell me to buy 5. Same for almost every item I've ordered... I thing it's because of the last piece extra sitting on the trays. I like the food and it's decent, but can't expect much and always check your items order and get a rough estimate in mind of the cost. THEY WILL TRY TO CHARGE YOU MORE. For me this is the go to place for dim sum . Very generous portions. If you enjoy dim sum you won't be disappointed. Also Chinese desserts ( small variety ) available. You may have a tad of a language barrier however, any San Franciscan worth their salt won't have a problem. Service is fast,strictly business. For the most part Mongkok Dim Sum is 'take out', there is seating available ,only 3 small tables but mostly for the older folks to sit waiting for their take out. Mongkok can get busy morning & afternoon, the store is small & cramped so expect a line going out to the sidewalk . If you arrive at a time in between the rush it's a quick in & out. Mongkok Dim Sum is a small shop located near the corner of a busy intersection. Parking is street parking and can be hit or miss, but luckily I found metered parking down the street. There are a few chairs and tables inside, but it is very cramped inside, so it is best to take your food to go. I tried the ha gow, siu mai, and steamed beef cheung fun. Nowadays, unless you show up really early in the morning, expect to wait in line. Once, arrived on a Sunday at around 11am and had to wait for about 30 minutes before we got to order. Day after Thanksgiving, needed our Youtiao for our after Thanksgiving turkey jook, went at 8am, and no line AND they were warm, fresh, and a great compliment to our jook. Good rice plates - black bean spare ribs and/or chicken feet. They add cabbage when you order the rice plate which is also a highlight to the dish. Good sesame balls and hom sui gok (sp?). Love their egg tarts. Kids like the soy sauce chow mein. The char siu bao are a big hit. Last time I came, they brought out freshly made white carrot cake which were still hot - so yummy! This is our favorite takeout dim-sum place in the Sunset District. The pork siu may is always a must - it's a juicy savory pork dumplings, completely succulent and delicious - and recently their bbq pork buns have been our favorite too - the buns are soft and filled with sweet savory Chinese style bbq pork almost to the edge; it's so scrumptious and delicious. Amazing. We also get pan fried turnip cakes and har-gow (shrimp dumplings) sometimes from this place. For desserts we also often get their sweet bean filled sesame balls. This is a takeout place, though just FYI, but they typically would have tables for customers to sit at, just not during the pandemic obviously. Came here Tuesday 5/26 afternoon, there wasn't a line, just letting one group at a time since it was slower/social distancing. Ordered the ha gao shrimp dumpling, ha cherng fun shrimp rice roll, and 1 baked BBQ pork bun. Thought everything tasted good. Service wasn't too bad since there was no one after me. Advice would be to know what you want ahead of time. Also their menu is in Chinese so it may be tough for someone who doesn't speak Cantonese or read Chinese to order food here. But you can definitely point to what you want. I will be coming back when I crave dimsum since I live fairly close by. read more

Obviously this isn't a place you would go out of your way for but if you live the area like I do, you may find yourself coming here weekly. The prices are cheaper than the dim sum bakeries on Irving and there's a fairly wide selection. My go-to is actually the box of black bean spareribs over rice, as it comes with heapfuls of cabbage if you're here early enough (they may run out of that delicious cabbage if you show up too late). I always get it with soy sauce. It's filling and costs only $5.50 (with tax). You can also get a box of chicken feet for $5.50. Sure the spareribs and the chicken feet are fatty but that's my preference. The dumplings are nice and glutinous although quite salty/full of MSG. I tend to prefer the cheung fan over the dumplings and also the lo mai gai (comes in small and large). Not that this really factors into my ratings, but the people who work here are always quite pleasant! It's a welcome change from what I'm used to seeing in the Sunset. read more

Some of the best take-out gnao pak yip I've ever had in my life. Super velvety, smooth, and tender tripe and only $6. Their dim sum is decent and tasty, if you don't care about the texture or thickness of the wrappers. They make all their dim sum with thiccc wrappers here. Pretty solid, pretty in-expensive Chinese/dim sum deli, meaning you can get a bunch of entries, dim sum and baked goods that are made in-house and loaded on trays to sell. There's usually a decent line and they have good stuff. It's not the best cuisine I've had but for the price it more than gets the job done. As the other reviews warned this place seems to overcharge it's customers. They calculate everything on a little calculator behind the counter and not the register. I got 9 orders and was charged $45. Each order is $4.20 and even with tax it's about $5 too much. After reading the other reviews I am sure this is not a mistake and intentional. Don't bother with this place. They overcharge customers who don't speak fluent Chinese. I bought 2 pieces of the Mala gow (sweet honey cake) on Friday, February 9. The clerk charged me $5 and when I challenged her by pointing out that it was $2 each per their own price board - she made some lame excuse that it was Chinese New Year's Eve so it was a "special" price.
