    Fried Shrimp Roll
    Kyra K.

My companion introduced me to Xiao Long Bao, and my life is forever changed. I've only tried two things here, but anytime he suggests picking something up from here, I get excited. My companion always does the ordering and purchasing, but the shop itself is typical of other dim sum shops in the city being take-out only. Lines that go somewhat fast, prompt and quick service, and reasonable prices. So the two things I'm obsessed with here are the Pan Pork Buns and Fried Shrimp Rolls. The buns are delicious--fluffy yet slightly crispy, with a flavorful, savory filling, and the perfect size. The shrimp rolls are so good! The crunch goes wild and it's always loaded with such tasty shrimp filling. I could eat many. Xiao Long Bao seems to be a decent spot for takeout dim sum items. I can't speak for any of their other items, but I highly encourage you to try what I like! Find them off Clement St. with street parking around.

This is my go to place for Shrimp egg rolls and Deep Fried Shrimp Dumplings. The Potsticjers are great as well. This is fast pace. Know what you want because the ladies want to keep the line moving. By the way, when I usually get here around 830a there is a line and steady flow of people. No tables. To Go only. Just a get in and get out type of place. If you're looking for for fancy this isn't for you,

TLDR this is a neighborhood takeout spot for mid-tier dim sum, the 4 stars reflect the taste/quality based off this specific tier. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said this is a place I must visit whenever I'm in the area and I'm sure many others feel the same way as there is always a long line.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The standout dish is the fried shrimp dumpling, prob the most unique and delicious item on the menu and it is a MUST order. Think a normal steamed hagao but deep fried -- crispy on the outside with a soft chewy rice wrapper in the next layer, and then a savory shimpy hot center. It's a masterpiece. Pro-tip: pop it in the air fryer for 2 mins when you get home, DO NOT use the microwave. The other items are standard fare -- siumai, chasiu baoS, fun rolls etc. they all taste good and the restaurant offers good value for everything. When I come here I buy abt $50 worth of various dim sum, and eat it over the next few days.

I enjoy going to this place to get dim sum when I am in the area. The service is pickup only, and they get busy, so the staff tries to get you out quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is no place to sit because it is just for going, but I love the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

2025 update. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I always have to come by and grab some shrimp rolls $4.60 (order of 3.) Their regular egg rolls $4 (order of 3) are good too. Alternating between each one gives a good contrast of flavors. The next thing you know, all six rolls are gone. It would be nice if they had some red sweet and sour sauce or maybe some sort of ginger vinegar egg rolls sauce for dipping. But it doesn't really need it. The wait was only about five minutes today at 1pm. Great job everyone at Xiao Long Bao.

My brother in law loves soup dumplings. So when we all went to San Francisco the first thing he looked for was good soup dumplings. We found Xiao Long Bao on Clement Street. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was small and very busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean and they did have tables to eat at, but most were full.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He ordered his soup dumplings. They were really good! I love that you can watch them make everything right as your ordering. Everything is super fresh. There was a constant line in the restaurant which is always a great sign of good food. I ordered the steamed buns and they were delicious! In fact it was my first time having them and I am a little obsessed with them now. I am always looking for them now. The same way my brother in law looks for soup dumplings when he travels. I even saved some for my plane ride home the next day. It was totally good cold! I've even tried to make the steamed buns at home and it was a complete fail. I guess I need to visit Xiao Long Bao again!

Some of their different bao and dumpling selections

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This dim sum restaurant appears to be takeout only. However, they have a sister shop that has some available seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] PLEASE NOTE: do NOT judge a book by its cover on this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It looks very small and cramped, but the dim sum is AMAZING![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is very short and concise. They are constantly busy. Every time I visit this dumsum restaurant there is always a line. The appearance does not reflect the taste and quality of the food. It is a must visit dim sum restaurant!

Clement street in San Francisco has many great dim sum options. There are plenty of dim sum places between 6th and 8th avenues on Clement. The block between 7th and 8th avenues on Clement has one of my favorite dim sum places in San Francisco. Xiao Long Bao has one of the best shrimp roll and shrimp rolls in the city. This is the true meaning of value and both quality and quantity. Go to Clement street to get the good dim sum vibes, Xiao Long Boa has all types dim sum with shrimp and chives

    Erik H.

Yes I still go here! The lady who works here is like the modern day version of a poor man's Edsel Ford Fong so if you want rude service without a smile, this is your place. The dim sum is good and fresh if she is not too lazy or cheap to make you something that isn't ready yet.

The event going off without a hitch was really important, especially because the bride had lost her mom and didn't have her to celebrate this special milestone. I wanted to make sure the order was on time and there were no issues with delivery. I ended up canceling my original order because DoorDash wasn't going to confirm a dasher until the day of the delivery. I re-ordered through DoorDash but this time as a pick up. Again, DoorDash's service was leaving me unsure because they weren't going to send the order through until the pick up day. This was $500 worth of dim sum and I didn't want to take a chance the restaurant didn't receive the order or that they couldn't fulfill it in time. So, I canceled that order as well. I called the restaurant directly. They took my order without hesitation and made me feel at ease that everything will be ready on time. I called again in the morning to confirm my order before leaving for pick up. I couldn't get a hold of anyone, most likely they were busy with their Sunday rush, but they called me back even without me leaving a message! When I arrived my order was ready, The food was hot, packaged so nicely, and everything was clearly prepared with care. I was helped by a very nice staff member who made us feel like we were longtime customers. My daughter and her friends absolutely loved the food! Thank you so much, Dumpling House. This is our "official" dim sum option for weeknight take out. Personal favorites for me are always going to be the salt/pepper wings, the steamed pork buns, the crystal shrimp dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. My wife loves the soup dumplings, the shu mai. We could eat those dishes every week until we die pretty much, they are reliably good and comforting. Particular shout out on the pork buns though because they are just the absolute best consistency from a filling/bun standpoint. Soft, pillowy, they are glorious. I used to get pork buns from Good Mong Kok Bakery, but tbh, this is about 10x better. The soup dumpling also are quite good, I like the spicy ones but the black truffle is defintely worth it for the occasional splurge. They give you the red vinegar for it too which not all places do. Everything one needs to enjoy. I haven't been in person so I couldn't speak for the service or the location, but if you want a spot that delivers on time and often includes items for free (the pork buns are now free for orders over $50), this is great value and just great food. Chefs kiss.

Naturally, I thought the same would be for this location, ordering for delivery. Sadly, I was proved very very wrong. I got a total of 3 items and paid a little over $50 not including tip.First plate, stir fry noodle Shanghai style 0/5. Noodles were stiff, entire plate lacked flavor, it was really dry. The cabbage was just sort of thrown in there and to my surprise, there was chicken (I didn't think it came with meat) and it was so suspicious, one bite and I immediately had to spit it out. It was chewy and tasted uncooked. I began to lose my appetite... Sesame Chicken 0/5 - it was all batter, little to NO meat inside whatsoever. Saucy but it was very clumpy. I was so disappointed with this one. It was literally just eating fried batter in sesame sauce with sesame seeds thrown on top. Braised String Beans - 2.5/5. They were fine, flavored enough with the grilled onions and garlic other than that, not impressive at all. I had really high hopes for this place/order. I had been craving Chinese food for so long and was going to order from my typical place but decided to give this one a try. I definitely should have stuck to what I know would have hit the spot. An absolute waste of $50, so frustrating.

I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. I love donuts and fresh-made sesame balls are similar to a donut hole just with a filling that is actually food and so sweetly tasty. The outer fry was crisp and the insides absolutely perfect. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
