One of my favorite buns to eat is the Dai Bao (大包), but not many places sell it. While strolling down Clement Street waiting to meet some friends for lunch, I decided to finally check this place out. I've walked by it countless times but had never actually been inside. Although I can't read Chinese, I immediately recognized the character for "big" (大) and knew they had Dai Bao. For just $3.50, it was a giant bun loaded with pork, half a hard-boiled egg, a piece of Chinese sausage, and a shiitake mushroom. The meat was incredibly nice and juicy, and the bun itself was perfectly fluffy. The combination of all those fillings is exactly what makes a Dai Bao so delicious, giving you a slightly different flavor profile with every single bite. It was a solid, well-made bun. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of their menu!

By the time I walked in, I noticed the front counter setup and the menu had changed. They've added "New" in front of the restaurant's name. I spoke to one of the staff members, and she told me there has been a new owner since last August. The dim sum is now $4 for 3 pieces. Unfortunately, the dim sum I bought this morning was not fresh at all. The shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, and siu mai all had broken skins and were stiff. They tasted like overnight dim sum. The sesame balls also tasted like they were fried in old oil. I definitely will not be coming back. :(

I tried the chive shrimp dumplings yesterday and today I tried their pork sticky rice in lotus leaves. Both items were very good and authentic. They were all fresh tasting and well made. The shrimp chive dumpling was a little too salty but flavorful. The pork sticky rice had tons of different things inside including peanuts, duck yolk, Chinese sausage and pork. I don't remember how much I paid for this but it was almost free. I felt this place had much better food than Good Luck Dim Sum. It was also cheaper because the same items such as the sesame balls were 12.5% cheaper here (4 versus 4.50) and looked better. I will be coming back to this location to try their different dim sum offerings. Service was good in both stores. They now take credit card with 20 dollar minimum.

When I want cheap dim sum with no frills, this is one of my go-to places in Richmond. It's a small place on the corner of 8th and Clement. Like with most dim sum spots in the area, you should know what you want going in and bring cash. They have your basic steamed and fried dim sum items and they're priced at 3pcs for $4. My baseline for quality test is the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) and Shu Mai. Their Har Gow have a nice thin wrapper and a good amount of shrimp. Their Shu Mai doesn't look the prettiest but is tasty and not too dense. I also tried their Fried Meat Dumplings. They're nice looking and bigger than most. They don't have a lot of meat in them but I'm okay with that. They don't have as much variety here as Good Luck down the street, but their quality is better when it comes to certain things and they're open 7 days a week.

So sad.. We were happy regulars here before, but after the original owners retired, the dim sum quality is nowhere near as excellent as it used to be. We loved being served by the kind hearted lady behind the counter, who still works there, but sadly, the har gow (shrimp dumplings) and other dim sum classics just don't measure up anymore as the skin is no longer translucent, and one of our all-time favorites and one of their exclusive specialties - the brown sugar tapioca cakes are no longer on the menu. I wish I could say that the new owners were continuing the same level of quality as the founders, but sadly, this is not the case. I'll check again in a couple of months and see if anything has improved. Ambiance? Industrial at best. And with the new gigantic tall steam tray case, it is much worse, especially with the makeshift counter inside now. Again, I hope the new owners tighten their game, but I am not counting on it.

It's a small shop but they have nice big dim sum sizes and I think it's reasonably priced. The flavors are just right too and make sure to bring cash -only business.

Just ok, not the worst. Probs won't be frequenting this place. Dim sum ($18 total): 1) hargow: good but not the best I've had 2) beef rice noodle rolls: noodle texture is good but not a lot of beef filling. They also don't have the sweet soy sauce so the soy sauce packet is too salty. 3) shumai: rec skipping 4) shrimp & chives: rec skipping Logistics: -cash only -takeout only -limited street, metered parking

Cash only! Pork and beef siu mai were ok. Har gow were ok as well. But what really blew me away were the shrimp and chive and the egg tart! Those 2 things are amazing here :) Did I say cash only? Items are still faily affordable (see menu) and service is fast. It's meant for grab and go, no indoor seating except for one tiny table. On the fence whether I'd like to go back for more...unless I'm in the area craving a shrimp and chive or egg tart.

Radish cake, har gow, dried shrimp rice roll

Small place that is takeout and cash only- really easy to order and quick to pickup Got radish cake, har gow, and dried shrimp rice noodle for $9!! radish cake - 3/5 a little floury, but still satisfying har gow - 4/5 thinner wrapper than I'm used to but still yummy dried shrimp noodle - 3/5 the rice noodle was a little thicker than I'm used to but I also got this for the first time because I usually get the filled ones (they were sold out) Overall would go again, great value and still tasty though not the best.

3.75 Stars. First time trying out gourmet dim sum! I was originally on my way to good luck dim sum, but they were closed? Anyhow, gourmet is literally across the street and serving up some bomb dim sum too! The cheung fun was so soft and gooey and perfectly steamed! But how I really judge a dim sum joint is by their har gow! The skin on their shrimp dumplings is top tier!! Filling isn't bad either. I need a Frankenstein of good lucks filling and gourmets dumpling skin. Can there be a collab soon? I kid, I kid. Point is, give this spot a try. It's a decent alternative if you're in the area.

Nice meal in the park nearby--it's walking distance!

When in San Francisco, you can't NOT stop by one of the infinite number of to-go dim sum shops throughout the city. I was in the Richmond area and craving some dim sum. Not sure if there was some dim sum conference going on but...Gourmet Dim Sum and Cafe was the only place open on a Monday early afternoon out of the many within a few blocks! There was a line going slightly out the door (small space) of people waiting to order who I think also came here since nothing else was open. You could tell that this was a local favorite with both the worker and people waiting in line being familiar with each other. Inside, it's pretty standard fare--no place to sit down as it's really just to-go, menu is in print on the wall, and plenty of food to "eat with your eyes!" in big warmers/steamers. For those who have a bit of order anxiety or don't like to be picky, here's a protip: you don't have to order an entire order of a specific item if you want less. You can just ask for 1-2 pieces at a fraction of the price. Usually orders came with 3 pieces of any given item. I got 2 orders of Shumai, an order of Har Gow, 1 piece of turnip cake, and 1 single BBQ pork bun (steamed--looks like they don't have the baked ones here on the menu). Unfortunately they were out of the shrimp rice rolls which in my opinion are a must at dim-sum! Maybe next time. Overall, everything tasted great and fresh which often can be a problem at to-go Dim Sum places if things have been sitting in the warming trays for too long. The Shumai, which I feel is often the most hit-and-miss at any dim sum, was juicy, well-balanced with lots of ingredients, and well proportioned. Everything was only ~$13 and was packaged nicely and neatly--a great price in today's post-COVID-19 prices. This was certainly more than enough food for one person. Thankfully the Presidio park areas are nearby in walking distance. You can sit down to have a nice little meal outside and then walk it off in the park after which I definitely needed! FYI, if you're not used to getting dim sum to go: don't come here expecting staff to wait an arm and leg on you, an expectation which is sometimes reflected in the reviews for these places for those who are a little more picky about these things. Know what's in these dishes ahead of time like everyone else in line so you know what you want and expect there to be some limited communication if you're going to speak English. The workers were super nice here, but please just know what to expect on a busy day if you've never come to this type of place (this is true for any to-go dim sum places in San Francisco). Personally I love this type of ambience inside as it feels like home. Do note that it is cash only! Definitely would come back here for a quick meal!

Lo Bac Go with a lot of flour taste.
    Danny C.

I usually go to Good Luck Dim Sum but saw the name across the street and wanted to see what they offer. Got the Lo Bac Go and it was full of flour taste and they did not have rice balls like Good Luck. Even with a name food quality was not good. Caveat Emptor.

$8.25 haul $4.50 for the noodles and $3.75 for the shrimp chive dumplings

Most of the take our dim sum spots whether it be Richmond or Chinatown are largely similar both in taste and price. The Richmond's just a little less busy only bc it's mostly locals I feel like this place generally has the smallest line of all the dim sum spots, but I do think they have the best chow mein soy sauce noodles. Might be the cheapest too by .50 cents ish. It's a little muted in flavor, but I like that. It feels like what the Panda Express chow mein tried to copy? lol Lady is always nice and will likely give you a few cents discount the more you order ( north of $25) this probably also helps w mental math but it's a nice gesture nonetheless. It's just a take out spot that's cash only so don't expect too much! Def much cheaper than eating in at a dim sum spot

This is our "official" dim sum option for weeknight take out. Personal favorites for me are always going to be the salt/pepper wings, the steamed pork buns, the crystal shrimp dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. My wife loves the soup dumplings, the shu mai. We could eat those dishes every week until we die pretty much, they are reliably good and comforting. Particular shout out on the pork buns though because they are just the absolute best consistency from a filling/bun standpoint. Soft, pillowy, they are glorious. I used to get pork buns from Good Mong Kok Bakery, but tbh, this is about 10x better. The soup dumpling also are quite good, I like the spicy ones but the black truffle is defintely worth it for the occasional splurge. They give you the red vinegar for it too which not all places do. Everything one needs to enjoy. I haven't been in person so I couldn't speak for the service or the location, but if you want a spot that delivers on time and often includes items for free (the pork buns are now free for orders over $50), this is great value and just great food. Chefs kiss.

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

But honestly? I think I preferred the calm casualness of the setting. It was exactly what I sought that evening and I liked, too, the way that each of the dishes ordered were brought out in their own good time. That is: things here don't arrive all at once and I was good with that. Those who "know" dumplings might nitpick about authenticity or price but I thought everything I shared was delicious, authentic enough for me, and even the price seemed reasonable (made even better by their InKind participation). Green beans, pork bao, Shanghai noodles, and chicken wings were shared. Every last bit was fully consumed, and both of us really liked each dish that we tried. To spoil the experience I had to ask which dish was the least favorite and we agreed that it was the noodles, really only for the reason that they were difficult to extract from the bowl and share with two people when the sole serving utensil was chopsticks and a fork. This place, once frequently described as hipster and tech-bro central, seems like it might've been left in the dust as those crowds moved on. All the more reason to enjoy it now, which is exactly what I did.

The sauce base isn't overpowering and pairs well with the XLB and dumplings. Of the Xian style dumplings, the lamb is my favorite. I've tried the pork before, but something about the filling tasted off. The dumplings are wrapped in a thick, egg-based hand kneaded dough that gives them a homemade feel. Steering clear of the pork XLB, the tom yum has an incredibly savory soup base with the eye-catching red wrappers. Couldn't quite taste the coconut broth, but was still equally rich and savory. Would definitely order this and the lamb dumplings again. My biggest hesitation about coming back is the recent price hike (between Feb/Mar and July 2026). Compared to just a few months ago: Lamb dumplings: $12.50 to $15 String beans: $10.50 to $14 Scallion noodles: $10.50 to $14 Tom Yum XLB: $16 to $17 Small increases are understandable, but nearly a 50% jump for noodles and string beans are hard to justify. The food is as expected, but with these prices, it'll be harder to choose Dumpling Time over other nearby options!

I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. Quick and tasty spot. Came here to split a siu mai while waiting for my order from another spot…read more The cashier was super friendly and the food came out quickly. Heads up that this is mostly a takeaway spot and they only have 1-2 small tables. The siu mai was fairly big and I liked that the order came with a bunch of sauces- chili oil, soy sauce, and a hot sauce. As a big sauce fan, I appreciated the selection! I'll be back to try most of their selection.

I've only ordered dim sum from here through Too Good to Go (2g2g). Like their Chinatown location,…read moreI find the dim sum to be oily. But overall, it's good. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
