I don't even know where to begin with how horrible our experience was with Monkeyman's. We asked them to come out to do some general pruning and remove a tree that is an invasive species. The first guy we worked with seemed great, he was responsive and came out and talked us through everything and flagged what needed to be removed for the work crew The work crew was absolutely awful. One, it took 3 appointments for them to even show up. They missed the window every time and I would have to call and ask where they were just to be told they need to reschedule. No courtesy from them whatsoever to understand the burden this puts on working adults. When they did finally show up, it was just me and when my husband was not present they talked down to me, they were demanding and disrespectful from start to finish and also didn't complete some of the work we had outlined. They also repeatedly banged on our sliding glass door to get my attention, even though I was sitting right there. As soon as my husband got home, he noticed they also REMOVED an unflagged, mature, well established tree from our yard without our consent or knowledge. It took 4 months for them to replace the tree they removed, after rescheduling multiple times again, and the tree is at least 3-4 feet shorter than the one they removed. Paying our invoice, even at a discount for our trouble, felt like an absolute joke. The number of hours they wasted, the carefully planned landscaping they destroyed.. they're lucky we haven't pursued small claims yet. This company is an absolute joke and I would never trust them to do any sort of work again. read more

We had a tall black walnut removed from a difficult location; a rather technical job in narrow spaces. They had to work around two greenhouses and garage, not a single scratch on any part of our property. Nelson and his crew were fantastic, careful and REALLY strong! Clean up was immaculate. We used Monkeyman several years ago and had a great experience on both occasions. This time was different in that it was during a huge wind and snow storm and two of our neighbor's trees fell on our children's room. Chris has an emergency number you can call in times like this. Considering he had hundreds of calls, all emergencies, he was very responsive and communicated as fast as he could with us. He sent a surveillance team out the next morning and they moved what they could and secured tarp on the roof to keep the elements out. A huge branch from a tree in the greenspace behind my house fell into the yard, just barely grazing my deck. I used a hedge trimmer to trim the smaller branches away from the deck, then I called several tree services. A couple asked me to send photos, but Monkeyman's was the only one to send someone over for an appraisal. Patrick said he would want to trim another long heavy branch from the tree since it looked like it was ready to splinter and fall also. It did, a few days later. Monkeyman's would charge me $700 to do the trimming and take away the trunks and branches. Marcus and the crew came over at the appointed time, and it only took them 45 minutes to clear everything away. As an extra benefit, they used a leaf blower to blow the leaves from my back yard into the greenspace. The people in the crew were personable, diligent, and did an exceptional job. Sam, an ISA-certified arborist, came out to give me an estimate to remove dead wood from my three large fir trees, as well as to remove a couple low branches that were too close to my roof on the douglas firs, and to raise the crown on the Grand Fir next to the street. They also put a brace about 2/3 ways up in my Grand Fir to increase its stability. The crew was very friendly and took the time to answer my questions and explain what they were doing. When they were done, they did a great job of cleaning up debris that had come out of the trees. The trees look great. I wish I'd thought to take before and after pictures so I could show you the difference! I got several estimates, and Monkeyman's was in the middle of the estimates. Their plan for the health of my trees made the most sense to me. Katie, the office manager, was also great to work with any time I had questions before and after the work was done. We needed to have a Japanese Maple pruned and a large cherry tree removed. We got 3 estimates and went with Monkeyman's. The crew left a couple of hours ago and we could not be happier with the job they did. They showed up within their arrival window and were gone in less than 3 hours. They were extremely quiet for a crew using chainsaws and other equipment. I have never seen such a thorough clean up job. Excellent experience from the first phone call. Estimator was on time and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. A crew of four showed up right on time on demo day. Right off the bat my husband said "these are real tree guys, not gardeners with a chainsaw". One of the trees we had removed was taller than our and our neighbor's two story houses and pretty much in between the two. Upper branches of it draped over the neighbor's roof. It was amazing to watch the crew's skill as they strategized how to rope and cut each branch so they could lower it into our yard. A large limb from about 40' up a maple tree fell over our back fence and into our backyard. With all its branches and leaves, it covered about half our small garden. Monkeyman quoted us the lowest price (of 3) for removal, and the only one that included cutting the limb's stump still up in the tree. They sent a team of three, and within an hour they dropped the high stump, cut the branches up, and removed every trace. The team did excellent work. My only problem was that when cleaning up, they pulled out a gas-powered leaf blower. I had expected a company this good to use battery-powered leaf blowers as a token of commitment to the health of all growing things -- including us humans. Maybe they will in future. read more

The team worked hard to get a huge limb off a Sweet Gum tree that hung over my neighbor's yard as well as removing most of a dead tree so they'd be able to get to the limb. Recently had the walnut tree in our front yard pruned to prevent it from dropping anymore large branches on our property (and potentially us or our cars). Unfortunately - we had our original appointment was scheduled right before the recent ice storm in our area, so our job had to be rescheduled for them to prioritize emergency situations. The only word that comes to mind is ...WOW !!!!! Your men called before coming, showed up when they said they would, greeted us, walked the job to view our mess of a yard - and then they went to work. They periodically asked us to clarify how tall we wanted something, or how it should be shaped, before cutting. They were considerate in starting in the back so we could have access for our dog later in the morning. They worked exhaustively back there, cleaned up any potential wood or plant trimmings as not to choke our dog, locked the gate and came to the door to let us know they were switching to the front so we could let Jax out. And he was quite surprised as he surveyed the yard with the smells and all of that sunshine from the opened tree canopy. After lunch my Husband went outside and he was literally shocked - IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. Our home now looks like a home and not a jungle of overgrown bushes, lilacs and we were finally rescued from those vicious blackberries. First off there was a some miscommunication about what was accepted on the proposal and that had to be cleared up before work began. Crew did a great job with the pruning of our trees. although we noticed the next day that a couple of the branches were not cut to the trunk as had been confirmed with Josh. Unfortunately, it was raining that day so when they cleaned up and used the blower, they blew a bunch of dirt and debris onto our garage doors and they also blew some debris under bushes, etc. It took my husband and I over an hour to clean it all up and to wipe down the garage doors with a rag. I would definitely use them again as the actual pruning was great. read more

Way overpriced for service provided. The estimator indicated there was about three hours of work to be done. He later indicated he did not recall saying that and stated that regardless, they charge by the work done and not the time spent, and furthermore their guys are so expert that they may take less time to do the work needed (a fact that he knew when he made the estimate.). Their hourly charge is $650 per hour for a team of three. They quoted me $940 which I thought was high when I signed the contract but decided that for three man-hours of work I'd accept it. The guys spent 30 minutes trimming and left me with a tree that is nearly the same as I began with. It was the end of the day, they arrived late, and I believe they simply wanted to go home. Their worksheet stated they were here for 1 hour and 15 minutes. After I expressed my dissatisfaction the estimator returned and stated things such as "This is a really difficult tree for this small space" and indicated it did not make sense to do more work on it. He finally agreed to give me a 10% discount. I told him I was still dissatisfied and still he was unwilling to do more. I would not hire these guys for small jobs. read more
