I've been to this spa two times now and both times the experience has been wonderful. The location is convenient with free parking. The ambiance is soothing and luxurious. I got a massage that was the perfect balance between relaxing and working out all my knots. Also got the body scrub which exfoliated my whole body. I looked at different spas in the area and Monterey Spa definitely did not disappoint!! Sylvie was awesome! Her genuine smile was welcoming from the start and her technique was perfect! Let me just start by saying, I absolutely 110% recommend you to get a service done at Monterey Day Spa!! I'm from Fresno, and I would use them again for another weekend trip!! Ladies, if you have a ladies weekend coming up-Evelyn and her team leave nothing out when helping you plan the special event. The staff at Monterey Day Spa were kind, helpful, professional and very engaging with our group. We only had 6 ladies in our group and the Day Spa was able to accommodate our group with approximately 3 amazing services for each lady. The services themselves were downright heavenly. The only downside is that they were too short!! Haha! I wanted them to last all day, they were so relaxing. I won't speak for the other ladies, but I had a 30 minute massage from Venice and she was a gem! Very considerate about my needs during the massage. Then I had a 30 minute facial from Mari and I enjoyed every second of it, she explained each step briefly as it was my first time, and gave me helpful tips for my skin. Then, ny manicurist was Ana, and I still look at my nails in awe of how beautiful they look! They used quality products and no one was rushing. To top off services, they basically let us take over their spa! We set up one of their tables with snacks, and we all felt very safe with our belongings. The staff even set up a bridal party game that I was grateful for!! It helped the girls have something to talk about and they even had little gifts at the end for the winner of the game and the bride to be. It was a sweet touch to our day. The staff made this whole day a breeze, from setting it up months in advance to pre planning each ladies reservations, to ensuring me the week of that we were all set. My daughter and I booked 60 minute deep tissue massages. They let us park there for a few hours since we were headed down to the Aquarium and our appointments were towards end of the day. We got there early and were greeted and served a hot cup of tea which was delicious and served in a beautiful white tea cup. For the massage, I had Brian and she had Chelsea. Both were amazing. I have massages weekly at home and I have to say Brian really listened and gave me exactly what I was looking for, better even than my regular masseuse who I love. Came here with my husband for a couples massage and had a wonderful and relaxing time. Everyone from the receptionist to the massage therapists were warm and inviting. They offered us ice cold water in champagne glasses to sip while we waited, and once they were ready we went back to a gorgeous room. They let us undress to our comfort, and once we were ready they worked on us for an hour. My massage therapist took note of areas bothering me and spent time working them out. They also used coconut oil with is wonderful for the skin. As far as pricing, they're unbeatable! An hour long couples massage was 190!! Best pricing we found in the area. Back again but this time for the 90 min hot stone massage. My masseur was James and he was exceptional! Once I checked in with the front desk (5 mins prior to booking), I was greeted right away by James. He was very polite and thorough! Before we started, he reconfirmed the type of massage I booked and asked if I had a massage before, if I had areas that needed extra attention, and if there were any injuries he needed to know about. With the first contact, I wasn't prepared for it (I twitched, lol), but that was the only time in the massage that happened. He asked permission to incorporate a scalp and foot massage. Although I said yes to both, he double checked about the scalp massage because I had my hair in tight French Braids and he didn't want to mess it up. I thought that was extremely considerate of him! I told him it was fine to continue with the scalp massage and I'm glad I did; I wanted to experience the massage in full effect. Throughout the massage, he checked in with me to see if the amount of pressure was too light or too deep. He kindly readjusted the head piece to ease some tension in my neck. When he noticed a change in my breathing with a certain technique, he checked in to see if I was okay. There was enough talking but I didn't feel obligated to hold a conversation throughout the whole service. James managed his time well! He listened to what area(s) needed extra attention. Even with those requests, I felt that he made sure that each area received almost the same amount of time and focus and I truly appreciated that! It was a 90 mins well spent! This place is absolutely pitiful. I came here to get a wax done so I decided to choose the place with good reviews, well I thought this was it! They took me in the same day which I thought was great, as I lay down in the bed and waited for my waxing to start young girl waxing me was explaining stuff to me she was telling me about where she used to work how it was there and how she really didn't like doing bikini waxing and eyebrows and how that's all she did in her last job and that's why she left it does she really just wanted to try to do other things. As this made me a little apprehensive because she was about to do my waxing I kind of just went with it and hope that things would go well, and she seemed to know what she was doing. She waxed me and then turned me over waxed the back of my legs. And told me I was done but then when I got up I realize she forgot to do my knees completely, so I let her know hey you forgot to do my knees she said oh yeah she did my knees and that was the most painful part I actually screamed. It didn't look like there was any major damage to my knees so I got up I paid and I left. When I come home I realize there's a lot of wax on me so I decided to go in the shower when I came out of the shower I realized the wax was still on me so I got some lavender oil and decided to rub the wax off lo and behold do I find major patches all over my legs of hair I literally took 2 hours with a tweezer to take all the hair out that she left behind because there was a lot of patches of hair that she completely forgot like strips of hair. Not just that but when she waxed my knees she pulled off my skin and created bruising on both of my knees so I guess I'm not going to be wearing a bikini until this heals. I contacted the manager the manager at first was nice and said please send me photos. I sent the manager photos and she basically gave me 50% refund. I explained to her that it wasn't acceptable not only did her employee leave actual strips of hair on my legs but I have very serious bruising on both of my knees, the manager went ahead and said but my employees spent time with you so I don't know what to tell you there's nothing else I can do for you I've refunded you 50% and I did explain to the manager that I will be leaving a Yelp review she said I guess go ahead and do it. Avoid this place at all cost they don't care about their clientele at all. Bad Services I will not be returning here ever again and I urge you to do and I ordered you to do the same!!! read more

I hate doing this, really, but what a disappointing second visit to this place. I'm familiar with spa services as a member of a nice place in San Francisco, never have complained about services before in the ten years I've been going. Here's what happened. My sister and I had come once a few years ago and had a great service with the massages. We decided to bring our mom for her birthday weekend (made a trip to Carmel from SF) on the last day of the weekend. I had made the appointment the week before for one of the packages (90 minute massage, 60 minute facial). In order to accommodate the three, it would be my mom and my sister doing a "couple's massage" while I did the facial, then flip so we get out on time together. We get there early enough to fill out the forms. They take my sister and my mom back. I am still sitting as an esthetician takes back another lady for a facial. I let that esthetician know that I have a facial that was supposed to start 10 minutes ago. She says she'll let the front desk manager know. Finally that manager, Carey, tells me she's sorry but the esthetician scheduled to see me had car trouble and won't be in. She's trying to find someone else or refund. So this was something that had been happening and you just told me? Anyhow, I understand there are things out of your control but... seemed strange. Another esthetician is called in and can thankfully make it. I ask about timing because my dad and husband need to pick us up same time to head to our next stop; Carey says timing will be fine because it's a 45-minute facial. I correct her - it's 60 minutes. She has to double check and then realizes the timing error. I'm already 30 minutes behind. The extra star is for Mari, who came in before her scheduled time to fill in for the person who forgot to show up for work. Mari was extremely calm, soothing, and gave a great facial massage. Next up, my massage. I think it's James? Probably the worst massage of my life. I've had 100. He is deeply breathing in and out the ENTIRE TIME even though it's clear I don't want to do all that deep breath work - I want to breathe on my own time especially during a massage that's supposed to be relaxing. I ask him to adjust pressure because he's just touching my arms and back, moving them around like stretches. He asks if I want deep tissue because I asked for more pressure. So ridiculous. On top of that, he ended my massage 10 minutes early. 10 minutes is a lot of time. I leave feeling so dissatisfied. Turns out my mom's masseuse was great but her esthetician was late, keeping her waiting for 10 minutes. Carey said something about taking my mom to the bathroom and that's why there was confusion; again, incorrect! My sister and my mom were together the whole time until my mom was left outside a room door to wait for her esthetician. Carey was told by my sister's esthetician when she left her room to grab something. My mom waited even after that. The resolution was 10% off. I appreciate Carey trying but I don't like the excuses that were given. Considering the unprofessionalism and the time cut short from both my massage and my mom's facial... that was nothing. I also decided to tip everyone (differently) because I get that it's hard work for the people who spend time on us. So, so disappointed. First time having to complain about massages like this, and for my mom during her birthday celebration and Mother's Day Weekend, an even bigger disappointment. read more

We had a 90 minute couple massage to celebrate our anniversary and start off our celebration weekend. Ian and Kim were excellent and it was a very relaxing massage. 90 minutes is so nice because you are really able to fully relax. The therapists suggested the CBD lotion add-on which was nice but I am not sure it was worth $20 for each of us. This spa is beautifully appointed and even though the room that the massage took place in was small it did not feel cramped with 2 of us and 2 massage therapists. Customer service: This was a bit off for me, as I did not receive a confirmation call a few days before my appointment. This is a first because typically when I provide my credit card information, the business will call to make sure that I can come or ask if I need to reschedule so that I do not get charged. Additionally, I had a gift card with a balance in the amount of $50 (I checked the card balance after with a customer service representative) that was turned down, forcing me to pay with my credit card. Couple massage: Pick some where else: The tub only put out less than luke warm water. It did not fit us both comfortable AT ALL. (Here 215 I am 145) So really you are soaking in cold water we got out sooner than the 30 because we were cold and uncomfortable. As for the massages I had to remind him that I needed lotion because I was allergic to nuts right as he had the oil in his hand after we talked about it before the masssage And I wrote it on my paperwork. He did not do my head or face and did minimal work on my "problem" areas. He did 2/3 of my massage on my neck and shoulders. That's great but I would have really liked my lower back an quads done since that's my prob area. The lotion was refrigerator cold so ever time he put it on me I just about jumped. He kicked the table and woke me twice when walking around it. My other half enjoyed his massage for the most part was justupset with the tub situation. We came out for a week for Valentine's Day and our anniversary. That was far from relaxing. Really sad we had such a crummy experience after seeing all the great reviews. This review is for Sara. I treated myself to a 1 hr sugar scrub, 90 minute massage and a 1 hr rose anti aging facial. The first 2 1/2 hours was fantastic! I can't say enough good things about her. She was so welcoming but professional, she wasn't too chatty but not tight lipped either. The scrub was intense. If you have never gotten one, don't go in thinking it's relaxing and Sara means business! Then my massage was outstanding, she really knew what she was doing, I didn't have to point out any particular spots, or ever ask for different pressure, she could read my body perfectly. Then after my massage, we got done a little early so she checked on if my next appointment was ready, let me relax in the room, offered for me to take a nap, had tea waiting for me, kept checking on me between appointments, I will absolutely go back to Sara the next chance I get. read more

Silvie gave my husband an outstanding Swedish massage he left feeling so relaxed and cared for and Ian gave me an amazing Deep tissue. His technique is great, def pays attention to detail and grounds himself to you and your needs. I've been doing massage 15 years myself in the Napa valley and I will definitely ask for him again next time I'm in town! He knows what he's doing and it shows. My visit was over a stretch of three days. Booking through their website was very easy and, contrary to a few other reviews (on another website), they did keep my reservation. I booked them months in advance so there were no issues. Day 1: Shellac Manicure and Pedicure The manicurist did a good job. There were edges of my fingernails that weren't completely covered, but it's only noticeable if you really stare at them. They have massage chairs for pedicures and that was nice, but be careful - the chair might try to assault you if you don't mess with the settings LOL! Day 2: 60min Swedish Massage That was ultra relaxing and Irene was able to get knots out that I know had been sitting there for YEARS. Day 3: Oceana Clarifying Facial and Lemon Blossom Sugar Scrub This one was the best. Brandy was SUPER friendly, calm and inviting. She was able to help me get a better idea of what's going on with my skin and recommended some good products to me. She was also able to think on the fly about which products they offered would best suit the skin on my face. As for the sugar body scrub, I think I almost fell asleep. That's how great it was! She always made it a point to ask permission before moving on to other steps that I might have found uncomfortable, and she checked in about the temperature of the towels or equipment she used on me. read more

This appt was schedule as a Girlfriends Package which is a 45 min Swedish Massage 45 minute facial and a classic pedicure. We decided to add a classic manicure for the full experience. When we arrived and filled out the paperwork we wanted to make sure we were both in the same room, it is a girlfriends package. The receptionist said they wouldn't be able to accommodate that since they were fully booked. Ok no biggie we'll just get the mani pedi together. My massage and facial were AMAZING!!!! And my star is for my girl. Once we were waiting for our mani and pedi... they separated us... AGAIN. Then we realized it was one person getting a mani and the other the pedi? It was a mess, why offer the girlfriend package if you can't get your services done together?? In that case don't offer the package and just simply book separate. Although we booked an additional manicure for each of us, only one of us was able to get the manicure and one of us the pedicure. In all ends.... Went to Carmel for a babymoon and unfortunately our resort spa was closed due to COVID. The majority of spas in the area were open but booked. I was somehow able to squeeze in a facial at Monterey Day Spa last minute with Brandy. She was amazing! She greeted me the second I walked in the door, no wait time. She was very conscious and considerate that I was pregnant and made me feel comfortable and safe. The facial was incredible!!! The best part is while the mask was setting, she gave me a relaxing neck, arm and scalp massage; it felt like I got a facial/massage combo. I would highly recommend this spa. Really excellent massages. First impression walking in is good. The room was nicely lit and serene. The beds were wonderfully padded and the face cushion also very comfortable. I've been to many spas throughout my travels. This is what I'm looking for. My husband's masseuse was Sarah and he said it was a fantastic massage and to give everything her a good tip as she worked hard for it. My masseuse was Thomas and I don't know if I enjoyed it as much as my husband because I was blissfully asleep for much of it. Lol. First of all they decided to clean the tub during the time of my appointment so we couldn't enjoy it, and they did not discount my price even though the tub was included in the deal.
