This is our family's favorite go to spot for Chinese food and that's saying something considering my parents are fob lol. Parking: a lot of people just pull up right in front of the restaurant to pick up to go orders. I'm sure this isn't legal tho so just be on the lookout for cops ! If you're looking straight at the restaurant there's actually parking to the right so I always park there. It's a very small restaurant so I recommend making a reservation. They also take reservations to hold the entire place for parties ! We threw a graduation party there once. I'm not sure if they're still doing it but there's also a karaoke room upstairs they let us rent one time. They can bring the food upstairs to that room too. Everything is delicious. Hello guys, I looked this up on yelp and saw a 4 star plus review, however when I first drove up to this place I was skeptical, don't let the building make you consider anything different. I did see a bunch of locals walking in to it to the point it was almost completely full. We decided to go in and oh my god I am glad we did. We first ordered Hot and sour soup, it was made the way it should be. Next we ordered Peking duck, that may have been spot on. After that we ordered mu shu pork, fantastic, and finally it was the Mongolian beef. That too was good. Over all I would recommend this restaurant to someone who really like the taste of food rather than the ambiance. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town! The portions are a good size and the flavors will make your heart melt! Everything we ordered, I would recommend. Beef with ginger and green onion, house crispy noodle, walnut shrimp, minced beef with egg white soup, and Pei Pa Tofu with Spanish. I go with my family and everyone gets to pick one dish. A day after my last post, a "Ken Y" messaged me and said that he would show my picture and review to Moon Garden and would keep me updated. I never asked for that, but ok. Also, I never posted a picture of the food. mmm hmmmm! Then he messaged me today. He's obviously associated with the restaurant. First of all, I already said I wouldn't patron their business again, so "banning" me from the restaurant makes ZERO sense! Secondly, isn't Yelp a tool to help people in that past patrons can give their honest opinions on certain restaurants/services without backlash? Lastly, if indeed he was a legit customer and accurately described the situation, then their response to a bad review is disheartening. If my boss received such a poor review, he'd look into what happened instead of mocking the customer and saying that he probably ordered something "nasty." Are you sure "NASTY" is the word you want to use, knowing what I ordered from your restaurant?? Is that to say your restaurant SERVES nasty food?? Lol! This is one of THE BEST Chinese restaurants on the island!!! I haven't been here for about a year and upon seeing their new menu, admittedly I was a bit skeptical. They have fewer items than many other Chinese restaurants with dinner service. Based on my experience, this was a good choice because everything we ordered tonight was fantastic--they hauled out their unpopular dishes and let the favorites shine in their new menu. We ordered a couple of dishes to share tonight: 1. Honey BBQ Pork Ribs ($24.00) -- These bad boys were delicious as always! When you come to Moon Garden, you HAVE TO order these ribs. These finger-licking pieces of ribs are coated with a thick honey sauce. My favorite pieces are the ones that are slightly charred at the ends. SO DELICIOUS! But beware, they must be ordered at least one day in advance! 2. Tea Smoked Duck ($13.95 for half a duck) -- The duck pieces were a little bit on the smaller side, but the intense smokey flavor from each piece made up for that. I also didn't really taste any tea flavor, but the slightly bitter aftertaste might've been that. I liked it, but definitely not one of my favorites. 3. Honey Walnut Shrimp ($13.95) -- These large pieces of shrimp had a nice crunch and were all coated nicely in batter and a honey mayo sauce. My only complaint is that the batter was a little soggy and not as crispy as I would've liked it to be. 4. Pan-Fried Yellow Croaker ($16.45 for two fish) -- The skin on the fish was lightly crisp, but its flesh was oh-so-tender that it would easily fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. For something as simple as pan-frying it, the flavor was able to really penetrate the flesh of the fish well. 5. Ong Choy w/Preserved Bean Curd ($10.95) -- The ong choy was stir-fried very nicely, which was a surprise to me because many other places tend to overcook ong choy until they're nasty and mushy--not at Moon Garden though! The bean curd sauce mixed well with the ong choy, giving it a salty, deep flavor. Even though the ong choy was well-coated in the sauce, I found myself dipping the ong choy in the sauce some more because it was just that delicious! 6. Diced Wintermelon Soup ($11.95) -- With the muggy, humid, disgusting weather outside, I really wanted something refreshing to lighten up my mood. The wintermelon soup did the job! Each chunk was relatively large and cooked in the soup until they were soft and juicy. I wasn't expecting this, but they also included bits of shrimp and cod fish to make the soup a little seafood-ey, which was really nice since regular wintermelon soup doesn't actually pack much flavor. 7. Young Chow Fried Rice ($9.95) --It's the typical Chinese fried rice in every Chinese restaurant so not much to say there. 8. Deep Fried Tofu -- Loved these huge pieces of tofu. The batter is very crispy and I loved how there's extra crsipy batter hanging onto the tofu. 9. Red Bean w/Purple Rice Dessert Soup (FREE!) -- Great way to finish off the meal, I always look forward to this dessert every time I come here. The rice is chewy and the red bean gives it that sweetness we're all looking for after eating all the salty entrees. Every dish I had tonight was wonderful and packed to the brim with flavor! For the most part this little restaurant packs a nice punch of flavors. I love the spareribs and are a must when ordering food here. I love almost everything I tried. I tend to stick to my usual dishes like spareribs, ma po tofu, green beans and pork, some noodle or fried rice dish and I have tried seafood dishes. I do recommend not to get the fried foods is you're not going to dine inside. I saw that the dining area was open so I'm glad slowly people can eat indoors. This is one of our current favorite local Chinese dinner spots. We only come here if we have a reservation, because it's so small and there are often parties filling up much of the place. The service is good and the food is served relatively quickly. Our favorite dishes so far are the steamed pork hash, steamed fish, chicken with green onion and ginger, and hot pot of beef and daikon. We try to order something new each time, because there are so many interesting items on the menu. The char siu ribs are as delicious as fellow Yelpers describe. The long beans with pork and preserved olive is a surprisingly tasty dish, with lots of umami and tiny bits of sweet-sour flavor. But the dish that keeps me coming back is the tea smoked duck. The skin is fatty and decadent, while the meat is tender and juicy with a hint of smokiness. The dessert varies, but we've usually gotten tapioca with taro in a light coconut milk "soup." All I know about this place is that they make Gud Chinese Food! Answer Nike's call and 'Jus Do It!' Located on the westbound side of Vineyeard Blvd. jus passed Liliha St. The parking is my only compliant about this place. Only has a few stall around the building and during the day they share with an auto shop. Yes, an auto shop in the back of the building. Otherwise street parking isn't that viable on Vineyard, so good luck with finding street parking. Inside is also kinda tiny with about half dozen tables that seat 10 and a couple tables to seat up to 4. Highly suggests you order out if you can't get a seat right away or wait. I've driven by this joint countless times and only recently ate here with a group of fellow Yeeps. If you have a Chinese friend or family member to help you order I strongly recommend asking them what to order. I'm honored and blessed to know Chinese friends that know what's good and what to order. My #1 dish and really the only dish I know of is the Honey BBQ Ribs. Heard they must be pre-ordered, yes pre-ordered ahead of time, because they only make so many each day. Oh, and a sign says they closed on Mondays! My wife and I were in the mood for Chinese food for lunch and wanted to try a place that we haven't dined at before so we researched Yelp and decided on Moon Garden on Vineyard Blvd. This is a small hole in the wall restaurant that has probably been here many years without me noticing. First impression was that the place is tiny with dine in tables and what little people were there spoke Chinese. We looked through the menu and ordered a beef broccoli fried rice lunch plate for my wife and a 1/2 crispy duck for me with a bowl of rice. They seem to do a steady business on take out orders and again some of the customers were regulars speaking Chinese. Our orders seemed to take a longer than acceptable time and was delivered just as I was becoming impatient. My wife's lunch was huge with a bowl of beef broccoli and a separate bowl of fried rice. My duck looked delicious and I wasn't disappointed. It was not the best I've had but it was moist, juicy and tasty. My wife thought her lunch was terrific and had half left to take home. According to the menu our meal would have come out to about $27 but my bill came out to $33. I had to ask why the discrepancy and was told they raised the prices on the entire menu. I did not know my $13.95 duck was actually $18, and my wife's lunch was supposed to be $10.99 was raised $2. We paid the bill but complained. Located in a slightly sketchy area, this restaurant was just a gem. They served up great Cantonese style Chinese food. It's the best I've had in awhile. We came here on a weeknight for an early dinner to avoid the crowds. Thankfully, there weren't any. We were required to show our covid vaccine cards to prove we were fully vaccinated before we were able to dine in. We ordered many dishes here. All of them tasted delicious, mainly because they had that beautiful wok hey (flavor from the wok). The stir fried and steamed fish fillets had great texture from the fish and were seasoned well. The stir fried beef noodles had the perfect noodle texture and wok hey. My favorite of all the dishes was their salted fish and chicken fried rice. The salted fish added such an umami flavor to the already fragrant fried rice. It tasted like Chinese comfort food. Whenever we're back in Hawaii, we'll be back to eat here. It's only fair to give businesses a second chance. We all have our off days as we're humans, not robots. After a below-par dinner experience at Moon Garden several years ago I'll admit I wasn't keen on trying here soon. I'd drive pass this restaurant numerous times and see this place packed to the gills. In the Chinese community many rave over Moon Garden and I just couldn't understand why. Several weeks ago I had a friend reach out to me to get together for dinner. To be frank I was more interested in meeting up with friends, not thrilled about the Chinese food here. Dinner reservations were from 630pm but arrived at 615pm only to realize the restaurant parking lot was 100% full and had to find alternative parking. Note to self in the future: Come earlier. Our table of 8 was seated in the corner. The organizer was a regular of this place and in addition to our 3 preorder dishes we added several more. This time I found the food memorable. The ever so famous Honey BBQ Ribs - last time they were non-meaty and on the tough side. Last night the ribs were plump and juicy. Pork was tender and I ended up scooping some of the sauce over my rice. This can be their signature dish. I also enjoyed their Crispy Gau Gee Crispy Noodles. Not only was it my dish selection, the Hong Kong style noodles (thin egg noodles) were executed well - - crispy and somewhat a nutty flavor after frying the noodles. There were assorted meats and veggies with a hearty brown gravy on top. Restaurant was very accommodating as we ordered 1.5 orders of noodles and to have at least 8 crispy Gau Gee to prevent people fighting over the crispy dumplings. The preordered cold ginger chicken to my delight delight wasn't the yellow skinned free range chicken that I don't care for. It was okay but perhaps a tab bit over cooked. The ginger sauce was standard and nothing spectacular. We also had stuffed wintermelon with JAI, a vegetarian dish that was spectacular in display but the flavors didn't make the grade with me. I had expectations that involved much preparation and ingredients and the final product didn't deliver. Lastly we had steamed fish fillet which was edible and sure nothing to write home about. I'm glad someone also noticed there were only julienne green onions on top. Key aromatic ingredients of Chinese parsley and fresh ginger were missing and therefore made the dish to simple for my sophisticated or should I mention complicated palate. Overall I found the service to be above average that evening. The wait staff were attentive to our needs and had waters and tea pots refilled. Moon Garden is BYOB so friends brought Japanese sake, Tsing Tao beer and Suntoty Japanese beer to wash down. Moon Garden is one of my go to restaurants for takeout Chinese food. The Cantonese style of cooking is solid here. The tastes are delicious and the prices are fair. Located in convenient Liliha District just a block away from the freeway entrance going in either direction. And there is usually more than enough free and easy parking in their private lot, as long as the Chinese Association which shares the building on the second floor isn't having a function. I have catered office luncheons from here. I have picked up food for family and friend gatherings from here. I just picked up takeout for dinner here last night. Delicious! Why not five stars? Prefer not to eat here as the tables are so close one might mistake themselves for a sardine in a can. You will be dining so close to your neighbor you will know all their intimate secrets by the end of the meal, that is if you can understand the Cantonese language. And the service while efficient is far from hospitable. Had the waitress snapping at me yesterday afternoon about something inconsequential. That's Chinese for you. Ahhh the comforts of the expected! Do yourself a favor though and go get some Moon Garden. Food is consistently good. Have never been disappointed. Favorites include bbq ribs (must be ordered a day in advance for dinner only), minced beef soup (aka: Westlake soup), drunken clams, minute chicken cake noodle, salt and pepper shrimp or pork chop, steamed fish with ginger and scallion, and the list goes on. read more

I had a short, 6-day trip to Oahu to visit family and friends which included 2 dinners at Moon Garden! First time I went with my Chinese friends and a couple days later my cousin also picked Moon Garden and I didn't realize it until we got there! It was ok because the food was good! My friend ordered the Pei Pa Tofu with Spinach, it was this fried tofu with soft center over spinach. Really good, so I had to order it with my family and they also really liked it. My first time having this dish! I also liked the Crispy Gau Gee with Cake noodle, Peking Duck and Walnut Shrimp. Everything was good, but I did not like their Jai. It had a red sauce, just didn't taste good. I would not order it again. I minused one star because although wait staff was nice once seated, when I got there on our second dinner they had a table blocking entrance because of limited dine-in seating. My family was already inside seated and had made reservations. I had my baby in stroller so she could not fit in space to enter because of the table. I said Hello! to alert the two people working. They both looked at me and then looked away. The man was not busy just standing there ignoring. I said Hi, can you help me? No moves or eye contact. So another patron who was eating with his family got up to help me in. Just very rude! read more

Good, reliable, friendly service. Only 3 tables, but Sunday dinners not too crowded. Fried oysters and ribs are tasty and fresh.

Good Chinese food at reasonable prices. This is a small restaurant located on Vineyard going West, right after Liliha St. The parking is small and it can get crowded during dinner. There are only several tables inside, so reservations would be recommended. The portion size of the dishes are large enough to be shared by several people, and the food is tasty. Service is okay as there are not too many staff on hand. If you like to eat good Chinese food at reasonable prices, give this place a try. They have the famous smoke duck, which not many Chinese restaurants have. read more
