While my initial review of Moon Valley Nurseries was very positive, poor after sale follow-up by the Austin and Buda Moon Valley store locations force my decision that I can no longer recommend Moon Valley Nurseries as a reputable supplier of nursery / landscape products or services. A great amount of detail regarding my concerns has already been communicated in-person, by phone as well as via text and email to the responsible Moon Valley employees, yet a reasonable resolution has not been forthcoming. Those employees have since gone silent. Bottom line, the Moon Valley Buda store delivered and planted four "Giant" (their term) Manzanillo olive trees on my property that proved to be infested with boring beetles, which appear to be the vector source for a virus that caused rapid canopy loss and near or actual death of all of the trees. A Moon Valley employee inspected the trees and confirmed in text and email that they had a boring beetle infestation. (No similar boring beetle infestation has ever occurred anywhere else on any plantings on my New Braunfels property.) The four olive trees comprised approximately half of the cost of an order placed with the Austin and Buda Moon Valley stores with a total price of approximately $23,000. (*It should be noted that I have more than two decades of experience growing and caring for olive trees, including approximately three dozen large specimens at my California property where the trees were harvested for olive oil. I have never before had difficulty growing olive trees.) The four aforementioned Moon Valley trees are now in such poor condition (two are dead and two others are near death) that they are in violation of the HOA rules for the property on which my house is sited. All four now need to be removed and destroyed as they are clearly diseased and unsightly. Further, one of the olive trees Moon Valley planted had settled, and was leaning significantly off plumb, in danger of toppling (see picture #1.) I asked Moon Valley to replant and stake the tree. They did not replant, but did stake the tree along one axis. A few weeks later that same tree was blown flat to the ground during a freezing rain storm (see picture #2.) I asked Moon Valley to replant the tree in hope that it would recover from having its entire root ball exposed to freezing temperatures. That tree did not recover and subsequently lost virtually its entire canopy. Moon Valley suggested I "keep us posted" about the tree, which I did. Weeks and months went by with little or no response from Moon Valley. When it became clear that the tree was not going to recover (see picture #3) I asked for replacement. I was told the "tree was not purchased with a warranty" When shown that the tree was indeed covered by warranty when the original issue arose, Moon Valley shifted gears to "well, the warranty is now expired." In fact, the warranty "expired" during the weeks and months that Moon Valley wasted while not responding to my written concerns. This is at least sharp practice, and likely worse. All four Manzanillo trees are now either dead or near death (see picture #4.) All have suffered from the same rapid loss of canopy and failure to thrive. The proximate cause is a virus introduced by the boring beetle infestation. That infestation was brought to my property via the Moon Valley trees. Here are the concerns I have with Moon Valley Nurseries now that I have more time and experience with them as a customer: * The trees and shrubs sold by Moon Valley are usually of top quality. Not surprisingly, their prices are also very high relative to competitive nurseries. When the quality of some plants proves unsatisfactory due to pest infestation and / or disease, the overall pricing is extraordinarily high. * It appears that sales staff in particular are incented to operate in a manner that is not optimized for customer satisfaction. Follow-up to after sale customer concerns is often slow, or absent altogether. Staff are difficult to reach by phone and often do not respond to messages, whether left via voice mail, text, or email. * The planting crew personnel are usually excellent and enthusiastic, although they often do not have the authority to deal with business-side customer issues. * Store management and sales employee turnover is extremely high due to people either quitting, being fired, or transferring to other locations. The personnel changes are so frequent that it is rare for one to be able to deal with the same staff member over the course of a warranty period, as the staff that initially took an order is often no longer present to ensure a satisfactory post-sale outcome. Oral promises have proven worthless, as the person making those promises is often no longer around when those promises need to be kept. For all of the above reasons I will no longer recommend Moon Valley Nurseries for trees, shrubs or planting services. read more

I want to give a HUGE shout-out to Carlos Nieto for going above and beyond to make my Moon Valley Nurseries experience smooth, easy, and honestly more enjoyable than I ever expected a tree-shopping trip to be. I would give Carlos 10 stars, but apparently Yelp believes in limiting greatness. The moment I arrived at the nursery, I was blown away by the size and quality of the trees, along with all the beautiful shrubs available. As I walked around trying to figure out where to even begin, I was greeted by Carlos with a handsome smile and a firm handshake. He immediately asked what brought me into Moon Valley and what he could do to make my day great. I told him I needed shade and wanted to start a fruit orchard. Carlos listened carefully, showed me around, and helped me fall in love with a beautiful Holly Oak and Red Oak. He tagged the trees, put my name on them, and then helped me select 12 medium-sized fruit trees that were already producing impressive amounts of fruit. Apparently, I did not just come in for a little shade--I came in ready to become a small-scale farmer. Carlos then offered to come to my house and help map everything out to make sure the trees would fit and thrive in the spaces I had available. He followed me to my home and was just as professional there as he was at the nursery. Before we even went inside, Carlos placed a flag for the Red Oak in my front yard and took photos of the area. When I invited him into the house, he asked whether he should remove his boots so he would not track dirt inside. I have dealt with plenty of workers and contractors, and I cannot remember anyone ever asking me that. That small act of courtesy immediately confirmed that I was working with the right person. Once we made our way to the backyard, Carlos asked what I liked and disliked about the space. As it turns out, I did not like much of anything--so the plan had to change! Without missing a beat, Carlos recommended adding a privacy screen along with accent shrubs that would complement the yard and create a space my wife and I could actually enjoy. He walked the property, listened to every concern, placed flags throughout the yard, and took photos with his iPad as we discussed different options. What impressed me most was how fast, organized, and efficient he was. Carlos knows exactly where to put things, and somehow, he makes walking around a yard and sticking flags in the dirt look like a highly skilled art form. He then showed me a quick mock-up on his iPad so I could see the entire design in real time. Once I could actually visualize the finished yard, I was sold. I did not finalize the purchase that day, but we scheduled a follow-up appointment for the very next day to choose the privacy trees and shrubs. When I met with Carlos again, the process was fast and easy. He showed me the plants he recommended and explained why each one would work well in my yard. We ultimately selected several varieties, including sage, lavender, pineapple guava, rosemary, and Mexican bird of paradise. For the privacy screen, we decided on Arizona Cypress. Moon Valley also offered a 0% financing option, which made the purchase even easier. I left feeling confident, excited, and extremely happy with both my purchase and the time Carlos spent helping me. Carlos is knowledgeable, professional, courteous, efficient, and genuinely listens to his customers. He did not simply sell me trees and shrubs--he helped create a complete plan for transforming my property into a space my wife and I can enjoy for years to come. Five stars on the website, but easily a 10-star experience in our Hearts. If you need trees, shrubs, landscape design help, or someone who can look at your yard and immediately see its full potential, ask for Carlos Nieto. He is definitely the man you want handling your yard. read more

We had a very good experience working with them, especially with Laurie Liedeker! We went in searching for a few very large trees as well as landscaping shrubs and flowers. The nursery had the best variety of anywhere we had previously looked at and everything seemed nice and healthy. They definitely had the best selection of large specimen trees of anywhere we'd seen and their pricing seemed generally comparable to everywhere else too. What really made it great for us was getting to work with Laurie, she really is amazing! I knew what I wanted plants/trees for (i.e. landscaping, shade, privacy) and that's the extent of my knowledge about the subject. If left up to me alone, I'd of spent a whole lot of money and not only would I have not got what I needed, it would not have looked good either. Laurie made sure that didn't happen. She very clearly listened to what I wanted and needed for every spot and then gave suggestions. It's very clear right away that she knows her stuff! And equally amazing is that she'd double check on something cause it was important to her to be giving the accurate information. Never once was I made to feel rushed, pressured or that making a sale was a priority over making sure I was happy. That's even after we figured out that the 3 trees we bought for one area just weren't going to accomplish what we needed them to do, in fact, no tree would actually. Laurie was awesome and said no problem refunding for those, how often do you get that kind of customer service! Instead we used the money to get a bigger tree for a different area, so changed a large part of the order but she made it work smooth! Oh and for the landscaping plants, I had placed the marker flags based on just spacing requirements and mature sizes. Laurie came over and moved a few around and it totally changed the look, it's perfect. And 5 extra stars because she loved my dogs and they her! Update: Customer Service Follow-Through A few weeks after my original review - just as I was about to give up on any meaningful feedback - Moon Valley's customer service team reached out and took the time to fully understand what went wrong. What stood out most wasn't just the response: it was the follow-through. Their customer service rep came back out to our property to walk through irrigation, placement, and overall tree care in a way that felt thoughtful and tailored, not rushed or obligatory. It was the kind of detailed, proactive support we missed in the initial sales process. The conversation was practical, informative, and put us in a solid place for better long-term success with our trees. Most importantly, Moon Valley made a clear effort to restore confidence. Without getting into specifics, they went above and beyond to make things right for us; it felt genuine rather than perfunctory. That matters, because customers see through the latter rather quickly. The original issues, especially on the sales side, were real and frustrating, and I must stand by that experience, given that 2/3 of the purchase price was in services. Therefore, it would be disingenuous for me to erase that experience or those days of frustration, wondering, and not knowing, with a shiny five star review update. But it's also equally fair to recognize when a company takes accountability and puts in the sweat equity and clear commitment to correct course. And I can honestly say that Moon Valley did that in the end. In the final analysis, there's still a huge opportunity for growth on the front end; you can't just sling trees at folks and expect them to be wowed. That being said, I give Moon Valley incredibly strong marks for how their customer service team handled the aftermath of the initial experience. They're certain to get a more-than-even shot at our next landscape adventure! read more

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE from selecting, ordering a tree, and installing your chosen product. Lauren Bishop facilitated my tree search and purchase experience. She was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Lauren's communication skillset was exceptional. Lauren introduced herself, oriented me to the nursery, answered my immediate questions, and told me how to reach her for further inquiry. The sales staff at the Pond Springs facility do not use the pressure tactics I experienced with a competing nursery, which was much appreciated. Moon Nurseries will request a utility survey before your scheduled planting. It understandably took several weeks to receive delivery of my tree due to the high demand for transportation and planting services. The transport and planting crew supervisor, Angel Deintidos, proved friendly and knowledgeable. His innate ability to listen was nothing short of outstanding. Angel's crew consisted of Santiago, Ben, and Chris. They professionally prepared the planting location, placed and leveled our tree. They took care in establishing the bracing system as not to rupture the sprinkler line adjacent to the planting site. The crew planted, mulched, fertilized, and watered the Oak. They finished their work order by cleaning the worksite. Angel thoroughly addressed maintenance recommendations for the newly placed tree. My overall experience with Moon Nurseries was excellent. I would highly recommend this business for your nursery needs. In addition, ask for Lauren by name as she is an outstanding sales representative. read more

Like many, I had a need to replace a tree from the Austin winter storm in early 2021. Buying trees is not something I have done before, so an internet search quickly found Moon Valley had the best accessibility of locations and good selection of trees. When visiting, the staff were easy to work with, knowledgeable but not pushy. I had done research on trees prior to visiting so I had narrowed in on Monterey Oak as my top choice. The visit let me see the health of the trees and what size/price options were available. I was able to find a nice tree and the pricing honestly wasn't very different from what I found from what I know of other places in the area. Once picked out, we scheduled the install, which was 4 weeks out. It would be nice for quicker, but it really isn't unreasonable considering the amount of trees that needed replacing in Austin this year (lots of business for any nursery) and likely challenges with labor (as in all other industries). There were some issues with the initial install, as it wasn't quite straight and some damage occurred in transport. Working with them they went above and beyond to help get things right. In the end, the offered to replace the initial tree, which ended up being the best thing for me. The second install (by Angel) went perfect. Mostly, it was just a matter of communicating concerns with them, and when made aware they were very responsive and helpful. One tip is to be onsite for the install and if any issues arise, be sure to let them know. read more

Buyer Beware : Very Expensive to start! But you get what you pay for right...NOT ALWAYS. So here's the story...When the bushes were planted around the hot tub, We said one looked like they were too close as they were touching the tub and leaning over it. The installer didn't offer to move it and simply said it was bushy. After further inspection, the bush was not evenly spaced when planted from the other bushes as per our request. Here's were and why they get a terrible review. We called and explained to an employee, that employee forwarded our concern to our salesman and the salesman later called us back. He said if they move it, we will forfeit the warranty even thought it was just planted the day prior. We explained that it didn't look right from the beginning but that was the answer we got from the installer. He could care less. When we asked who the manager was, our salesman (leaving his name out of this even though we should have included it) provided the name and when we asked for the spelling he said you can go on the website and look it up. The plain truth is he couldn't be bothered now that they got the sale. ...And we spent a lot of money with them. If you are going to spend money on Landscaping you probably should look ELSEWHERE!! There is more to complain about but what's the point, just wanted to give everyone a heads up about this Nursery in Buda TX as there are other nurseries that are less expensive and more responsive. read more

We've been going to Moon Valley for years now.  We've purchased several palm trees that were lost during the past 3 storms. We once again had to replace them after this recent ice storm. In previous years, we had difficulty dealing with ex-employees who wore their jeans low and loose, cool guys, I guess.  Then I got a recommendation from Bobby's mom (who can't see well but has an awesome yard) to ask for Harrison. Boy, was that a blessing in the skies! They even offer tree maintenance, and we hope it will expand to yard care to kill those pesky Tony weeds we get here in Austin! We contacted Harrison and told him we'd be coming up in May to replace our dead palms. Harrison wears his jeans high and tight and is super knowledgeable on everything the nursery had to offer, unlike some of the other TikTok's we dealt with previously. At Moon Valley, you don't need to worry about your camera being touched through the fence as you are welcomed in and escorted throughout the premises.  We felt no presh to purchase anything, and we were even offered Saka Souffle at the end of our visit! Harrison helped us out in less than 4 strokes, and we left Moon feeling very proud of ourselves! If you are in need of plants, trees, flowers, etc. remove your cowboy hat and say, "How do you do?" to Harrison. You'll like the way your yard looks, I guarantee it! Oh, it's almost Mother's Day... so don't forget about the yard surrounding your Mom's house. read more

My wife and I have been looking for trees to provide some privacy from our backyard neighbors as well as having a full-body shape that displays blooms during the summer months. After searching many nurseries we just didn't feel right about their product quality. Moon Valley Nursery provides a very large selection of trees and shrubs with exceptional quality. I have an engineering background and tend to be more analytical which can be many times stressful for the customer service aspects of my purchase. We now have purchased four beautiful trees to provide the foliage atmosphere we have been looking for with low maintenance. My wife and I were fortunate to meet with Nate Brown who is well equipped with education providing him full knowledge of the species of trees and shrubs he manages. He can provide as many technical descriptions as you might want, as well as breaking it down to simple terms that align with the customer's needs. Nate also has exceptional communication skills and a great personality. I am taking the time to provide this review based upon mine and my wifes' personal experience. I love to just go and spend time at the Moon Valley Nurseries, just can't do it enough. We lost a big Bradford pear earlier this year and needed a replacement. Joshua was very helpful and suggested a Shumard Oak tree among other things, so we got it planted mid October. Somehow in 2 weeks it died. We were offered a replacement. Also we purchased the warranty for future. Fast forward, I was able to select another plant in a couple of weeks and it got installed yesterday. This time, Faren and crew delivered it. What a joy it was, to receive and have these people install the tree. Faren was great to talk to, he was very courteous, and provided expert advice on some pruning and putting the mulch the correct way. His attention to detail was great. He asked us for the tree orientation, made sure that it was installed straight (our yard is sloping, and makes it tricky). Also he was very particular in doing things correctly and made the well himself. I am looking forward to go back and have this crew installed another tree in our yard. I liked the group dynamic the crew had among themselves too. They seem to enjoy their work and had a great vibe and energy to them. I don't know everyone's name, but thanks all! read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Moon Valley Nursery, and especially with John, who came out to care for our trees. John was fantastic. He took the time to walk me through the health and needs of every tree on our property including trees Moon Valley didn't even plant. He explained what he was seeing, what each tree needed, how I should care for them going forward, and exactly what treatment he was providing and why. What really stood out was how well he met me where I was. He was incredibly patient, detailed without being overwhelming, and clearly wanted me to actually understand my trees rather than just complete the service and leave. I learned more in 10 minutes talking with John than I have from hours of Google searches. That kind of service builds trust. After working with John and the Moon Valley team, I trust them more than any landscaping or tree company I've worked with in the last 10 years. I had such a fantastic experience at Moon Valley Nurseries thanks to Mikey! From the moment I walked in, he made the whole process easy and enjoyable. I wasn't exactly sure what I needed for my yard, but Mikey took the time to listen, ask the right questions, and guide me through all the options. I came in with a rough idea of what I wanted--something low-maintenance but with a big impact--and Mike immediately knew what would work best for my space. He walked me through different options, explaining how each tree would grow and thrive in my soil and climate. Zack Parr came out to our home to inspect our trees/plants this week and we thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him. He is very knowledgeable and answered ALL of our questions with great confidence. He is gentle, laid back and took care of our root babies as if they were his own. He is truly fantastic and we asked that he come out again for our 3rd and final inspection. Kelly Carson is another reason why we keep visiting and hoping she is there to help us. She has the same level of knowledge with a gentle demeanor. She is pretty awesome too!!!! We've been to Moon Nursery many times and have enjoyed talking to everyone. They have so many things to offer.....not just great employees..... but a HUGE and wonderful selection of plants/trees. We manage to always buy more plants every time we visit....but that's the goal, right? Thanks to Moon for making our yard look like an oasis!!!! read more

Great experience with Moon Valley Nurseries. Very nice selection of trees at their Austin location, including several examples of just the kind of maple I was looking for. Daniel was very knowledgeable, showing me options and discussing pros and cons of different varieties. While the price was a bit breathtaking for purchase, delivery, and installation, the whole package was seamless and non-stressful. At the house, Joshua G. and his crew from Pond Springs arrived early and did a fantastic job of installation. They were courteous and professional, and certainly knew their business. They listened to my requests for specific positioning of the tree and stakes, and did a very thorough job of the actual planting, including careful backfill and tamping to eliminate air pockets. The final look, tree upright, nice berm, clean job site, all demonstrated their professional approach. Excellent job! read more

We recently purchased trees from Moon Valley and had a wonderful experience! The specialist we worked with was Nick Snyder and he was great! Nick was extremely helpful, responsive, knowledgeable, and very friendly. He was patient with us, never pushy, and took the time to answer all of our questions during our multiple visits to the nursery. We eventually decided on 2 beautiful Japanese Blueberry tress! The team that came to plant the tress was also great. They arrived on time and had the job done very quickly. Faron Watts was our on site specialist and he was also very friendly and helpful! Although the tress were a bit pricey, we believe they are worth the cost as they are hard to find in the Austin area. The customer service you get with Moon Valley is excellent, we would recommend them for anyone looking for great customer service and a huge selection of beautiful tress! read more

We had a very good experience with the Pond Springs group. Like many people, we lost trees during the 2021 ice storm. We bought two trees in Sept which were scheduled for installation in early Oct. The planting crew called in advance, showed up on time and did a top notch job. The planting areas were full of utility lines, irrigation lines and existing plantings. Ben Warnick and his crew laid out tarps to collect the dirt, carefully measured holes for correct planting depth, avoided stepping on existing plants, and asked for my preference on which tree face went which way. Ben was very knowledgeable and friendly and his crew was super efficient and polite. They added mulch to one tree in a planting bed and carefully raked the gravel back around the other tree in a xeriscape area. In the gardening world, this level of service would be called white glove. read more

Angel Veintidos was very polite and exceptionally informative about my specific Sabal Palm tree that he and his crew installed. He did an excellent job preparing the site and installing the new tree. He listened to my concerns about the process and was really careful navigating around the irrigation system, other plantings, etc. When they were done Angel explained the process of caring for the palm tree, with particular detail focused on the next 3-4 weeks to get the palm tree situated and off to a good start. Once finished, anything that was brought in and not used was hauled out and the site was left in a clean state. I'm thoroughly happy with Angel's performance and I'm glad I had him and his team on my job site. I highly recommend him for any future needs or installations. Excellent job all around! read more
