DO NOT purchase trees from here! Moon Valley Nurseries has nice trees but they do not survive in Austin weather (hot, humid, cold, freezing, etc) This business and their managers have RIPPED us OFF of 37K (cost of a small brand new car); we spent this as part of our investment to our house. Very unfortunate businesses like this are legal! Fact. When u insure your car it's not 33% cost of the car. This is insurance fraud++ *Do not trust these ppl, they lie and cheat you of your hard earned money!* If this type of business is fine with you, then proceed. All the best to you and yours! Don't get ripped off! For reference this is what happened to us: 2021 -- we specifically mentioned only to purchase trees that can live and flourish in Austin weather. We spent 30K for 11-14 year old Japanese Blueberry Trees and King Palm Trees. They were very nice trees upon purchase. We also purchased 7K warranty to protect our trees. The first year 2021; again we were told they both will survive in Austin weather = nope died! Had to replace all of trees after the winter season. The 2nd year 2022 had them replaced, thought ok maybe it just needed more time to adjust. Here we are in the 3rd year 2023 = we were most definitely lied to, these trees can not survive Austin weather. All 15 trees fried/ dead. We called to get on the schedule to replace our trees the 3rd time in a row. Brad and the assistant manager response = you didn't purchase another year of the warranty for 7K in time to cover the replacement. End of the day, they ripped us off and how they doing business to people is shameful. read more

Super helpful with finding the right flora for our needs which included making suggestions that made sense for the look and feel we were trying to achieve. She also provided tips on how to ensure we maintain the appearances of the plants after they get installed so they continue looking like the plants we originally purchased. And when we got stuck trying to figure out volume calculations, she used some creative methods to solve the problem, and the math mathed! read more

I'm really disappointed in the experience my family had today. My husband went to the nursery in Austin to get me some plants for Mother's Day. He very clearly asked for native species, and they sold him society garlic and agapanthus (both native to Africa). I noticed the mistake and immediately went to return the plants, but I was given a lot of pushback for it from a manager named Jay. After a lot of pressure, Jay agreed to a refund for the plants that had not left the center, and an exchange for the two that had been driven to our house and back. I asked about several different native plants that I was interested in (plus several that I wasn't, but which are fairly commonly sold), and he eventually offered me lantana. Knowing that there are several species of lantana, I poked through the cultivars, but my phone wasn't working, so I had to guess. I chose two "gold mound" plants, hoping they were Lantana urticoides. As they were processing the exchange, my phone finally brought up results, showing me that this cultivar is actually L. camara, an invasive species in this area. I brought up the mistake and the manager said he was certain the website was wrong. I pointed out it was the Moon Valley Nurseries website, and he continued to insist that it was incorrect and that this was a Texas species. I was tired of being a problem, so I went through the refund and exchange, then did some more thorough research in the car. Once I was convinced that there was no way the plants were L. urticoides, I dropped them off at the front desk and left, as I felt that there was no chance they would offer a further refund. I feel like my husband was taken advantage of. I felt pressured and then lied to. At best, no one had any idea what a native species is, and at worst they lied to get a sale. Update: I've added one star because they've now provided a full refund. read more

Updated Review for 2022. We went back in June to Moon Valley, things were quite different from our last visit, we were greeted as we entered and a number of folks offered to provide us assistance. Nate Brown was kind enough to answer all our questions, provide recommendations and show us a number of trees and shrubs that we were interested in. Also they have gotten a lot better in terms of displaying information on the trees, shrubs and their associated pricing, every single item had a tag describing the species and it's also associated pricing. So it could very well be our last experience was impacted more by COVID than we thought, I am very pleased to provide an updated review and a tip of the hat to Nate for being so knowledgable and helpful Oh and I would be remiss in not mention there large and vast collection! read more

Moon valley just planted a tree in my front yard and they were fantastic. Veronica was so helpful in choosing a tree with me and all the crews who came: the original tree had to be taken down and Brandon and crew were outstanding in taking down my very large dying tree without any damage to my house or yard ; and both the crews who took out the old roots and planted the new tree were all punctual, polite and excellent in there work. We needed 2 Bald Cypress trees after the ice storm damage. We knew going in that Moon Valley was not the cheapest nursery around, but you get what you pay for and they have some of the nicest trees around. We did not want to wait 15 years for a cheaper tree to mature and they had some very nice ones that already had 13 years under their belt. They were easy to work with and very friendly. The crew that came to plant them was outstanding and very professional. They got them positioned exactly how we had envisioned them and they look great. I recently bought a replacement tree for our home, as "Snowmeggon" in the past caused one of ours to die, and we just now got around to having it replaced. My wife and I were met as we entered the lot of the nursery by Manager, Cameron Ratajczak and warmly welcomed to his nursery. We were then referred to Phillip Gage, who took very good care of us. We ended up purchasing a new tree, and was informed that Foreman, Jose Mora would have his crew out to plant/install the tree on Wednesday. In the freeze a few months ago we lost 5 Japanese bluberry trees and were heartbroken. Well we just had five new Japanese blueberry trees planted in our backyard today in Austin. We'd retained Moon Valley to do landscaping design and planting for us. Quite frankly, we'd not been pleased with the result. We contacted Jay Benke who came out and personally visited with us. Jay not only listened to and addressed our concerns, he went above and beyond--offering and implementing creative solutions. By the time Jay, Damian, and Russell and their crew were finished with the new plantings and replantings, our yard looked even better than we imagined it might. Great selection! Terrible pricing! It feels like such a scam shopping there. Everything is always 50+% off. Finding price tags on anything is difficult. Even with the discount, it's the priciest in town. We did get 2 trees from there. They badly damaged one in transit, but still planted it hoping we wouldn't noticed. They replaced it with a deformed tree. It wasn't until the third try they got it right. Update: they reached out for my phone number. I wish they were as concerned about fixing the root issues as they are about cleaning up negative online feedback. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Ariel from Dripping Springs and I really can't say enough kind things about her. She was knowledgable, helpful, honest and really wanted us to get what would work best for us. She was incredibly reliable as well to be at our home on time, to meet us out at the nursery, make suggestions and just to be truthful about versatility of trees, the weather concerns, etc. She was wonderful! Because we had a major shift in our plans with the design of our backyard, we weren't able to go through with the purchase at this time but I have no doubt that the delivery, install and plant quality would have been as good of an experience. After reading the hidden reviews we got scared! Now I am posting so others know that maybe things have changed or situations are different. Here is our experience & why it was not 5 stars. We went in on February 24, 2024. We were in search of a weeping willow tree. There were $1500 ones & $4000 ones. ($1500 was on sale, smaller) we decided on the $4000 one. They had to be shipped in as the ones we saw were already sold. We did have to pay upfront in full which I don't care for but we did. We were told we would be called as soon as the trees came in so we could pick which tree we wanted. Our install date was March 26, that was first available. We ended up getting restless as we had not heard from the nursery about the trees being delivered. So we started texting and then calling when we didn't get an answer. This is where the frustration & 1 star comes from. Strictly communication. Wednesday, March 20th 6 days before install 811 had not come out & we had not heard about our tree being delivered to the nursery still. That afternoon I made a call and crawled up someone's rear. (Gavin? My apologies) At that point we had called, we had text & were given no answer on when the trees would be in for us to choose ours. At that time the nice guy that took the chewing got us our answer. The trees were there and had been delivered 3 days prior. Again, we had not been told, I had to call crawl up some poor guys rear to find this out. (Please keep in mind as I crawl (lol) we had already paid over $4,000 for the tree & it's been a month since we gave that money) Fast forward to Friday ( 3 days prior to Tuesday's installation) we go to pick out which tree we want. We find out the tree's they received were not as big as the one we were ordered for $4,000. This is why our sales guy failed to communicate the trees were in. He knew it's not what we were expecting or ordered. However, if he had told us what was happening we would not have gotten so bent out of shape but after reading other reviews I can see why they hesitate to communicate if it might make a customer upset. His Boss Trey I have seen his name in reviews as well. Anyway he was wonderful & handled the entire situation in a very professional & apologetic manner. We still chose a tree from the ones delivered as they could not find ones as big as the original ones we saw. He even tried to apologize even more by giving us some shrubs for free. We declined. It's not their fault the trees were not as big as expected. We totally get it. They did right and refunded the difference in size & our tree was delivered on time & looks wonderful! So communication is the only reason I have them at 4 stars instead of 5. We would purchase again but let our sales guy know "hey, don't be afraid to communicate with us. We won't bite your head off." Sh** happens but just be upfront with us." : ) read more

I came to Moon Valley Nurseries in Buda on a Sunday morning simply seeking to look at what the nursery had in stock for trees for my house, and I ended up walking away with many new beautiful trees to be installed in my front yard and back yard. I worked with Carlos N. to select beautiful trees for my home's front yard and back yard. Carlos was incredibly attentive to my needs and always exuded positivity and energy in each of our interactions. He never tried to upsell me on something that I did not need for my landscaping and was incredibly knowledgeable about each type of tree that might look great for my property and my desired level of maintenance. He took the time to walk me through the different options of trees and helped me select the ones that would fit with the visionary landscaping designs I shared and could fit with my budget. Carlos also spent ample time at my home flagging the different locations for tree installation and discussed the pros and cons of having trees in certain locations for the front yard and back yard. Landscape Designer Kelley Carson came out to my house and suggested what and where to plant, she recommended that I come out to the nursery to pick the plants I liked, they have a great selection of choices. I am very pleased with the work done by the guys that came, and most importantly, the team was very flexible. They helped with even the work that they were not required to do. They helped me relocate a couple of plants. In the past, the previous contractor I worked with cut my neighbor's fiber line in the process of digging. In this case, I forgot to mention that there was a fiber line in the area they were digging, but they were still able to identify it and dig around it. They were also able to show me an irrigation line that was close to where there was digging that I was unaware of. It shows attention to details. Overall, I am very impressed, and I highly recommend. Lastly, I also want to give an extra shout out to the guy who was leading the team; he was very professional and easy to work with. He seemed very knowledgeable, and he was able to recommend suggestions when I asked questions on how to manage the other plants I have in my home. I don't remember his name as this was a while ago. I am so happy I found this place! They have gorgeous and exotic fruit trees, among others. When we arrived, Trevor received us with a big smile and introduced himself. Willing to help, immediately he asked us what we were looking for and even took us to a ride in the truck so I didn't have to walk. (I have a bad back). This is my first bad review on a business. Super disappointed in what you get for after you give payment! I picked out a tree they only had maybe six options for what I wanted so they sent me to another location where I could pick out another one. They brought the wrong tree to my house... And not only that but at the end of the day when I dropped off all the other trees mine was bare and didn't have any leaves left. I immediately said that's not the right tree and it doesn't even have any leaves left and they said well they fell off on the right here... When I pulled up the tree was dragging off the trailer. They planted it one survived the other did not. I told them a month afterwards can you please come and trade me this tree they came out and said it will be fine that it just needs more time... Well with more time your guarantee is up. So lo and behold months after it's still dead and they won't answer phone calls or email back. If you go in they just tell you that it's past the guarantee date. You're just stuck with it. And then have to spend money to have it removed. How convenient! Super disappointed with this company. read more
