Unfortunately I let the manager decide which Arizona Cypress trees to give me based on the height requested. He gave me trees that were not shaped proportionately. Bottom branches were not uniform in anyway taking away from the beauty of the tree. Over time I dont believe bottom branches that are missing will magically grow back so I have 6 trees that are supposed to have a pyramid shape sadly do not. read more

As someone who has 15 years of personal gardening and landscaping education and experience, this place was a dream come true. Chris and Nate were very knowledgeable AND accurate with the information they gave (I play dumb to test the plant knowledge and validity in sales reps). Very personable and just as excited about the products they carry. I highly recommend this company for your "instant gratification" tree fix. They also sell a ton of perennial shrubs. Six months later and not 100% with the five star rating anymore. I have asked numerous times to have a rain sensor fixed that was broken when they initially came out there. After numerous emails and calls and text messages since October (now being May) I finally agreed to have someone come out to fix my rain sensor and then "have them bill moon valley for it." Additionally, I lost my Monterrey oak, and after staring at a dead tree most of the winter, I did get a new one installed. Unfortunately the crew came in, ruined my ground and messed up my metal edging with fixing it. My fig tree also died (which is weird in general) and even though I was offered half price of a half priced sale, home depot and Lowes takes those back with a year guarantee. I can't come back here. It's just not worth it. The trees are gorgeous and the place is heaven but after you give them your money, it feels like the service after that is plain mud. read more

We received great service from Angel during the install and from Robert during the Design part, and all the guys in the crew.

While my initial review of Moon Valley Nurseries was very positive, poor after sale follow-up by the Austin and Buda Moon Valley store locations force my decision that I can no longer recommend Moon Valley Nurseries as a reputable supplier of nursery / landscape products or services. A great amount of detail regarding my concerns has already been communicated in-person, by phone as well as via text and email to the responsible Moon Valley employees, yet a reasonable resolution has not been forthcoming. Those employees have since gone silent. Bottom line, the Moon Valley Buda store delivered and planted four "Giant" (their term) Manzanillo olive trees on my property that proved to be infested with boring beetles, which appear to be the vector source for a virus that caused rapid canopy loss and near or actual death of all of the trees. A Moon Valley employee inspected the trees and confirmed in text and email that they had a boring beetle infestation. (No similar boring beetle infestation has ever occurred anywhere else on any plantings on my New Braunfels property.) The four olive trees comprised approximately half of the cost of an order placed with the Austin and Buda Moon Valley stores with a total price of approximately $23,000. (*It should be noted that I have more than two decades of experience growing and caring for olive trees, including approximately three dozen large specimens at my California property where the trees were harvested for olive oil. I have never before had difficulty growing olive trees.) The four aforementioned Moon Valley trees are now in such poor condition (two are dead and two others are near death) that they are in violation of the HOA rules for the property on which my house is sited. All four now need to be removed and destroyed as they are clearly diseased and unsightly. Further, one of the olive trees Moon Valley planted had settled, and was leaning significantly off plumb, in danger of toppling (see picture #1.) I asked Moon Valley to replant and stake the tree. They did not replant, but did stake the tree along one axis. A few weeks later that same tree was blown flat to the ground during a freezing rain storm (see picture #2.) I asked Moon Valley to replant the tree in hope that it would recover from having its entire root ball exposed to freezing temperatures. That tree did not recover and subsequently lost virtually its entire canopy. Moon Valley suggested I "keep us posted" about the tree, which I did. Weeks and months went by with little or no response from Moon Valley. When it became clear that the tree was not going to recover (see picture #3) I asked for replacement. I was told the "tree was not purchased with a warranty" When shown that the tree was indeed covered by warranty when the original issue arose, Moon Valley shifted gears to "well, the warranty is now expired." In fact, the warranty "expired" during the weeks and months that Moon Valley wasted while not responding to my written concerns. This is at least sharp practice, and likely worse. All four Manzanillo trees are now either dead or near death (see picture #4.) All have suffered from the same rapid loss of canopy and failure to thrive. The proximate cause is a virus introduced by the boring beetle infestation. That infestation was brought to my property via the Moon Valley trees. Here are the concerns I have with Moon Valley Nurseries now that I have more time and experience with them as a customer: * The trees and shrubs sold by Moon Valley are usually of top quality. Not surprisingly, their prices are also very high relative to competitive nurseries. When the quality of some plants proves unsatisfactory due to pest infestation and / or disease, the overall pricing is extraordinarily high. * It appears that sales staff in particular are incented to operate in a manner that is not optimized for customer satisfaction. Follow-up to after sale customer concerns is often slow, or absent altogether. Staff are difficult to reach by phone and often do not respond to messages, whether left via voice mail, text, or email. * The planting crew personnel are usually excellent and enthusiastic, although they often do not have the authority to deal with business-side customer issues. * Store management and sales employee turnover is extremely high due to people either quitting, being fired, or transferring to other locations. The personnel changes are so frequent that it is rare for one to be able to deal with the same staff member over the course of a warranty period, as the staff that initially took an order is often no longer present to ensure a satisfactory post-sale outcome. Oral promises have proven worthless, as the person making those promises is often no longer around when those promises need to be kept. For all of the above reasons I will no longer recommend Moon Valley Nurseries for trees, shrubs or planting services. read more

While those in the nursery seem to have taken the recent frost well, I would like to watch these tree grow and branch out - and live through a season of cold weather. The prices - I think you get what you pay for. They have bundle offers, tree guarantees and a wide variety of fertilizers to help you with. The work order is comprehensive. They bring the tree home, plant, fertilize the soil - so it is as good as it gets. The financing offer - 12 months with no interest is really the icing on the cake. Last but not the least, I worked with Mr White. Very knowledgeable and extremely patient - as he worked through the requirements. Customer satisfaction begins at the point of engagement. We have bought 5 trees from Moon Valley over the past two years and they have been great from start to finish. Angel and his crew were out at our house yesterday to plant the last two trees that we bought and Angel and his crew were the best. They planted the trees where we wanted them and then checked on the other three trees that we had bought from them last year and adjusted the poles. The crew cleaned everything up and even pulled out a leaf blower to clean up the dirt from the road that came off the truck. Highly recommend them. read more

We purchased several shade trees for our backyard from here. They have a wide selection of trees with various sizes and ages. For the shade trees, the sales rep told me that they were a minimum of 1 year old. The sales rep was extremely helpful and knowledge. We were instantly greeted right as we walked in. Their "free planting" advertising does not apply to all trees; it is only for their specimen trees, which are much larger and more mature. We were still able to get their 3 tree package with delivery and planting. Delivery was very prompt and professional. They completed the job quickly and added mulch and fertilizer to the trees. I do think the trees here are much higher priced than other places in town. Their sales reps seemed to be paid on commission because it was very high pressured and he seems like he didn't want us to leave without buying something. read more

UPDATE: I'm giving this place 5 stars. Today I received a phone call from one of the owners. He stated this was not the normal and he wanted to call me and make things right. I really do love this place the trees are pretty and the plants are beautiful, even to just walk around and learn about plants. He will be personally coming out and making sure that everything looks good. This is a great core value "going the extra mile" it shows that he values his customers very much. I found this place about a year ago and when we went everyone that we spoke with was very knowledgeable. Everyone was really nice and helped me start growing my garden. Well I'm not sure what has happened since then, but it's been a nightmare. Went to see about adding some new plants in our front and had a very long discussion about our area, clay soil and sun most of the days! Was told "these plants will do well and they will thrive" awesome we will take 4 at $29.99 each. Later that week we went and bout 2 trees!! Great price and we would have to wait about 3 weeks, no biggie. Present day - plants died, and they replaced them and where told they need compost to help break down the soil as clay is too wet for these plants! Trees arrived - almost 40 min late I had a doctor appointment that I had to get to. Come to find out they left a mess in my driveway, walked all through my new grass tracking thick mud through it. Started digging without putting a tarp down and dumped it on my grass. I called to speak to a manager, she send send me pics and I will get this resolved and didn't feel any compassion about the mistakes. I'm not one to be rude, I understand that these kind of things happen. So the next day I did not hear back so I texted to ask about eta she responded "someone will be there this afternoon". Lack of communication, lack of compassion for a mistake you made, lack of communication from the guy we bought from.... lack all the way around. I've had to clean up more of my yard today from the mud they left!! I'm just one customer they lost, and I know it won't mean anything. read more

Needed some full grown trees for a windbreak and privacy in our new home. Macy was extremely knowledgeable and explained pricing and pros/cons of several evergreen trees that we reviewed. She helped us select 3 Carolina Cherry and 1 beautiful 30-foot magnolia for our back yard. Ben and the install team arrived on schedule within 10 days! Ben did a great job explaining the process and advised us on the best places to plant them. The Cheery trees not only provided the windbreak we needed but also, based on Ben's suggestion, helped provide shade from the setting sun. I would give this a negative million stars if possible. This is the biggest group of jokers I have done business with. They cannot even adhere to a binding contract. I bought 7 plants from them. They had a 90 day warranty (verbal and written). They were planted in early April. One died and one is looking like it will. I alerted them to this on May 10. Since May 10, it has taken more than 20 calls and texts to them, the regional office in Arizona and a central Texas manager to finally get one scheduled to be replaced. Only the regional people would even talk to me -- the Research Blvd shop is the main problem here, especially Nick and Bryn. But Nick extremely and especially. I had to escalate outside of this Research Blvd shop because Nick lied directly to me, said he didn't believe me that it was dead, told me on two different occasions he'd take care of it (he didn't -- that's the lie) and complete failed to hold up Moon Valley's side of the contract. Instead they were happy to take my money, promise me what they needed to in order to take my money and then not deliver all the way through. The Texas regional manager has been very helpful in getting this location to finally schedule the plant delivery, which was supposed to be today between 12-4. The shop called me yesterday to confirm this timeframe. So today I wasted a whole day waiting around for a ghost. At 4:30, no truck, no call. So I called FOUR TIMES and finally Nick answered. Here's another lie -- he said the crew was delayed and one man would break off with my tree and come plant it. It would only take as long as a drive across town. It's now 8:41 and no call, no truck, no tree. I could have driven to San Antonio and back since 4:30. In summary, it has been more than a month since I alerted them it was dead. I have been more than patient in working up the chain and not resorting to negative reviews and so on. Trying to work within their system to get the warranted replacement. Just trying to get what I paid for. But they used their last chance and the public needs to know these people are BAD OPERATORS. Avoid these liars and backstabbers at all costs -- they'll promise you the MOON and you'll end up in the VALLEY of death. read more

Well, I just want to share my experience with Moonvalley nursery. I've always had a very a tentative person or persons with good advice and choosing my plants and bushes small trees for my house and garden now a week and a half ago I got a gardenia. It wasn't doing good. I was concerned. They told me to come right away with it. And they told me that they will replace it with no problem,very polite very Courteous. There is three young men helping me with it. I couldn't decide which one I wanted to swap it out with ,so I asked there opinion and they told me well go ahead and take two. I told him no I cannot do that. I've been buying a lot for of plants for my garden, and indoor plants as well. I I've already spent too much ,,,they told me no I mean, go ahead and take the two and I looked at him puzzled they said for the inconvenience he was giving me the other plant as a courtesy, and they went ahead and gave me as well a moon juice,which is for plants and bushes trees to bloom stay healthy well basically it's like a miracle juice for plants and trees .. they gave me a lot of healthy advice, for my gardenia bushes, gave me a water bottle because it was pretty hot out there. Let me tell you there was just a bunch a sweet individuals. The gentleman said, help me with all of this was Chase ,Trey, and one other young gentleman I didn't get his name . hno Sergio I had spoken to him on the phone about other plants he gave me his phone, so he could take pictures and video so he could take no a look and give me some advice on it, which helped a lot . But all in all they went beyond the call of duty. I just want to say I came home with the biggest smile happy thrilled, excited and I'm very grateful and I'm gonna tell as many people about Moonvalley nursery as well. I am writing to express my disappointment with Moon Valley Nursery. I purchased two large palm trees from them two years ago, and both of them have since died. However, my main concern is that they also destroyed our sprinkler system during the installation process. I wrote a negative review about this experience, and they responded by offering to come out and fix the sprinkler. I deleted my comment in good faith, but they never showed up to fix the sprinkler. I am now two years into having a broken sprinkler system, and I am very frustrated with Moon Valley's customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I wanted 3 trees to provide privacy between my house and my neighbor. I explained to MVN that I had very rocky soil. I was recommended to plant Japanese Blueberries for this purpose. I trusted Moon Valley Nurseries to make appropriate recommendations for the climate and soil conditions. It appears that they only made recommendations based on the most expensive trees possible. The trees died the first winter. Luckily I had purchased the warranty. Moon Valley re-planted them, and two of them died the next winter and the third one barely survived. However, the last one died this winter. I live in a new development and all of the trees planted as part of the development survived. I feel that MNV took advantage of the opportunity to push very expensive trees ($3K) that were not the right for the soil/climate with no desire to make recommendations that were actually appropriate. Beware if looking for Moon Valley to provide expert recommendations. read more

He even visited our house twice to make sure our selections would work with the amount of sunlight they'd be getting. Once we decided, they took care of everything--stump removal, city approvals, and pre-digging of all the holes in the right places. On planting day, Thomas and his crew did an amazing job, right down to helping us pick the best orientation for every plant and tree. Can't speak highly enough of our experience. read more

This is the most expensive nursery in Austin!. Take retail pricing and multiple it by 10 and that's what your paying. Very frustrating that none of the bushes and trees are marked with a price, so you don't know how much anything is till you find someone. Then when I did find someone I asked him a few questions and he knew nothing about the plants. This nursery is a joke and hoping to take advantage of all of us Texans who lost our landscaping. Just an example on pricing... I saw this 2 ft. tall fiddle-leaf fig for $399! First of all this is an indoor plant and no one in South Texas should ever plant this outdoors or it will die of the heat. The the guy said this plant would be great outdoors. Didn't even know what he was talking about. I just bought a 7 foot one at Home Depot for $49And I purchased it from the indoor plant section. read more

This is the place to go! (If you want to be accused of stealing a tree.) I usually don't write reviews and take negative reviews with a grain of salt, but after visiting yesterday, I had to share my incredibly negative experience. After walking around for over 30 minutes and being offered zero help, I finally was approached by someone. When I inquired about Texas Mountain Laurels and asked if they had any less than the 10 ft tall options, he said they might get some next week and walked away. I decided to buy a small citrus tree, but since there is no clear process for making a purchase if you've never been there, I went to the office to ask how/where to buy. He said "right here," so I told him what I wanted, he rang me up, I paid, he gave me a receipt. I asked a few plant care questions (because none of their clementine trees have care tags) and was spoken to like a complete idiot. I then asked if I should just go take one, or if someone would help me, and was told to just go take one. So I went back to the lot, receipt in hand, grabbed a tree and went to my car. After I loaded it, I was approached by an employee and told that one of the field crew workers called in and told them I was stealing a tree, so he needed to verify that I had paid. He was very accusatory, despite me doing exactly what I was told by the staff AND having my receipt literally in my hand. He finally looked at my receipt and my tree, and I was free to go. Everyone I encountered was dismissive, condescending, or rude. I understand that this is a very busy time of year, especially considering that we are all dealing with recovering from the February freeze, but I will absolutely not return to a business that accuses paying customers of theft. read more
