The service was really slow. It took us 30-40 min to get our food and 10-20 min to even get greeted. The cheese on my cheese bread tasted like plastic. When we first entered, we had to enter in through the kitchen to get to the hostess stand, which isn't safe. My Mahi Mahi in my salad was tough to chew and not cooked thoroughly. overall, I would rate this place one star because of the service and quality of food. read more

We love the food and atmosphere here. The service is nonexistent. They have added on and aren't finished, but what is finished is very nice. I have seen probably a dozen people walking around in Moondog shirts, but forget about getting a drink refill. The brisket nachos were soggy with terrible cheese, the chicken fried steak was literally wet and stringy, crab cakes were brown on the inside and the salad was shredded like hamburger garnish. Recently raised their prices, which were already too high. A simple burger is up to $13. You can get the same quality of food for cheaper elsewhere, even in Rockport. Constantly seems to be understaffed by employees who don't want to be there. Meh. I wasn't overly impressed by this place. I don't know if it's supposed to be part of the island vibe of the place, or just the hole-in-the-wall ambiance, but you walk in through the serving area through a faded exterior where there are old oyster shells thrown casually around. The bathrooms aren't especially clean, and not even inside the restaurant. The service was fairly attentive. Our server was pleasant and speedy. We got the food promptly. The food was nothing spectacular. The sweet potato fries were obviously frozen. It seemed that they had gotten some freezer burn, and were mushy. The po-boy I got was handsomely proportioned, and the oysters were fried well. The bread wasn't the French roll that I'm used to, it was some takeoff on a white loaf, but that's not the biggest of deals. I wasn't so impressed by this place. I didn't appreciate that they had all the signs around telling you what they won't do for you. No split checks beyond 2 per table. Stay off the top deck. Don't dance on the tables. read more

Me, my husband, my sister and my brother in law went here for drinks last Saturday night. The atmosphere is fun and very, very, seaside rustic. It is as local as one can get in Fulton Beach. None of the furniture matches and they had to close off the back patio (it was really cold and windy) with a unhinged door propped up with barstools! LOL! I loved it! They have standing size heaters placed around for warmth. When I go to the beach I want laid back and no attitudes. We ordered an ice cold pitcher of Shiner Bock for just 7.99. We also ordered the loaded waffle fries topped with chili and real white cheese (no velveeta here). The menu price was $7.50 but our bill showed just $6.50. Bonus! The fries were hot, the beer was cold and the service was nice. This is a place to be yourself and hang out with whoever is there. If you go here expecting 5 star attitude this is not the place for you. read more

We have tried Moondogs over and over again. The view sitting out on the water is fantastic. Unfortunately it's all down hill from there. The waitstaff generally tries there best but the quality of the food is inconsistent at best. I get the feeling that being the only waterfront restaurant in Fulton/Rockport has made the owners complacent. We tried to support them after Harvey but have given up. We were trying to decide between Moon Dog & Charlotte Palmer for lunch. Moon Dog had better reviews so we went here. First walked to an empty bar-type setting. Not busy at all for Sunday lunchtime. The staff was all lined up at the counter, but not one said a single hello. They just stared at us. The hostess was the only one that greeted us--guess she kind of had to. I had the Amy burger with mushrooms, grilled onions. Patty wasn't dry. Not bad, but I was not a fan of the sweet bun. Actually, all our sandwiches had that kind of a sweet dinner roll dough----not a fan at all. As a bakery item, maybe, but not for burgers/sandwiches. I ended up taking the bread out and eating just the patty. The loaded nachos were good--plenty of melted cheese. Fries had a nice crisp to it. Yum! Shrimp po boy had a good batter, but shrimp was not as good as I thought---it being a coastal town and all. Their burgers are HUGE! Good portions on their kids meals and appetizers. $~140 for lunch for 7 people & 2 kids. Pricey lunch prices, I think. As Rockport is recovering from Harvey to rebuild tourism you would expect a little extra. Moondog goes the other way. The place is virtually empty. We bring a group. They won't let us sit until every last person arrives, even though their are tons of empty tables. We wanted to sit on the deck with view of the bay, but they make us go into a dark hole. Nobody ever sat at the empty tables on the deck. It was all about them and not the customer. Haven't been here in over a year. Beautiful relaxing view of the ocean on the back patio. I ordered the Chicken and Brie Ciabatta with a side of sweet potato fries. The sandwich was made up of a lemon marinated chicken breast, baked Brie, spinach and roasted apples, served on a ciabatta bun with fig jam and garlic aoli. I've never had such a combination on a sandwich before and I enjoyed it. The fries are probably bought in bulk ready to cook, but they tasted fine to me! Good service as well. read more

Hate to write a poor review, but my husband got sick on the oysters they served. Said they went through him like Harvey went through Port Aransas. Can't believe they wouldn't be fresh considering the oyster boats unload right next to them. Keep in mind he's had oysters here before and they've been good. Would not recommend. Basically they refused service due to us having a party of 13. Lady at the front rudely said "well I can't accommodate yall. We are so busy and short staffed, and we can't do it." We were willing to sit separate and she told us no. They were not very busy when we went and they had so many empty tables available. Great hostess! Terrible wait staff. We understand that restaurants are short staffed but when wait staff passes your table for over 20 minutes and doesn't even acknowledge you it is unacceptable. I've been patronizing Moondog for several years. In the beginning, when it was just a simple spot on the water, service was great and the food was reliable...no lapses, never out of anything, and no excuses. It was really a pretty delightful place to go. Yesterday, after a couple of recent shaky experiences at Moondog, I took a friend there who happens to be a professional chef and has been in the food business for decades. I knew she would know if we were in tall cotton or short weeds. We ordered the "Ribbers" appetizer which allegedly consisted of pork ribs. I thought perhaps if it was just a few ribs we could ask for more. But no options here - we learned that these ribs are pre-packaged and you get however many are in the package, no more and no fewer. We also ordered calamari...at other establishments typically served fried crisp with discernible parts of squid. Not last night. This pseudo-calamari consisted of pre-formed pieces that we thought might be shark meat or some other unmentionable substance. It was nothing like any calamari I've ever had before and if I don't have to pay for any sins, will never have again. It was nasty. So, the "Ribbers" were not ribs (by the way, my spell check keeps wanting to call these "robbers"...take that for what you will). My friend's food training and years in the business led her to conclude that these "ribs" are really chine bones, which is the section of rib where the ribs meet the spine. No wonder our "ribs" were square! And, we paid $10 for the chore of gnawing on these overcooked chunks. Avoid robbers AND ribbers...AND unless they upgrade their food service and quality, also avoid Moondog altogether. Writing this review makes me sad, for I miss the old Moondog. I won't be going back anytime soon to learn whether or not they've decided to return to a formula that worked, which is, don't try to be something that you're not. Be consistent, serve real - good - food, don't put your wait staff at a disadvantage by making them scapegoats for your poor management, and stop making excuses. Being busy is the best problem a restaurant or any business can have. read more

Worst customer service we have ever had. Waitress never checked on us once. Didn't refill our drinks. Food did not come as ordered. Sent it back. Came back with the same exact mistake. . But waitress never returned so we were unable t9 return it. Also there is a huge food hazard as they leave mayo on the table. Its bad! Do not eat it. Management did not even appologize for our service and didn't care about they mayo on all tables. They were rude and short with us. our bill was over 80 for 4 people. We thoigh we were going to a nice reseruant. We were sadly mistaken. We will never go back. I am sure there are better places to go where they will appreciate our business. If you're looking for a restaurant/bar with a nice view in the Rockport and Fulton area, this is THE place. Given the layout of the restaurant, there are no bad seats to enjoy the pretty scenery that Rockport has to offer. Considering some of the other reviews here on the food, we didn't have very high expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes we ordered. For appetizers, the "Ribbers" (mini-ribs seasoned and deep fried) were excellent. The entrees of Ahi Tuna Salad and the Soft Shell Crab were delicious as well. We traveled to Rockport with a dog, and the restaurant was more than accommodating. The waitress brought out a bowl of iced water and doggy biscuits for him. Fast, friendly and frugal. Recommended by hotel front desk as casual and inexpensive. It's Texas Gulf food. Brisket and sausage, for those who don't speak Texas, is barbeque, just the meat with ample dill pickles and onions. Sausage was very fine-grained with smoke oozing from the many crisscross cuts at the top. New oven for the Brisket makes it super crispy outside but fork tender inside. Mine had too much fat in the middle but was so flavorful that it was all good. sauce with a little smoke and a little kick; meat didn't need it. Homemade coleslaw was traditional but added raisins. Fish tacos were fresh with good flavor. Service was friendly and efficient. Don't expect fancy digs; torn plastic tables and bare wood with country music is so Texas it tips a hat to the ladies. Waited over an hour to be seated which is understandable given holiday weekend, ordered pina colada, was watered down with huge ice chunks, ordered appetizers req no salsa, appetizer was covered in salsa. No problem, they were busy I was ok. After waiting for 45 minutes, waitress comes and checks on us to tell me they ran out of what I ordered and needed to pick something else. Then our food came, most of it was cold. We had to go to bar to request our own refills. AND to top it off, we were seated on deck where it smelled like animal poop, we asked the waitress and she Apologized but told us it was from them cleaning their mats on the deck the smell is from all the stuff washed off the mats.
