MoonGoat Coffee Roaster's original coffee shop located in Costa Mesa is honestly one of my favorite coffee shops. I was ecstatic to hear that one opened super close by to where I live and work! It is located right inside Research Park at the bottom floor of one of the "corporate buildings." Don't worry about having a UCI parking permit because they've reserved a series of spots in front of the shop. It has nice seating both indoors and outdoors (but not as aesthetic as their original location, I have to say). I admit that my matcha was a bit on the too-sweet side. came today to moongoat because i'm obsessed with the overnight oats, i had called beforehand and made sure they had them. but when i had arrived about 5 minutes later they were fully out. this was very upsetting for me because i only drove here for this reason. i decided to still get a coffee, i got an iced latte with almond milk and sugar free vanilla and something was definitely off about the flavor, im not sure if it was the coffee itself or the flavoring but this is my order every time. so it was really disappointing on top of them not having the overnight oats after specifically calling ahead and asking. read more

I've been to this moongoat location twice and both times were fairly pleasant experiences. I love how close it is to my workplace and there's always a good amount of parking available, especially two 15 minute spots up front (perfect for pickup). Both times, I ordered online in advance, which was super convenient for me. To pick up my order, I walk to the pick up shelf to pick up my order and then head out. I also like how the cups aren't full of ice, even without checking the light ice box. In terms of price, it's a tad on the higher side. The small matcha strawberry brûlée was base $7.25 + $1 for oat milk. For the small iced matcha with oat milk and honey, the base was $5 + $1 for oat milk + $1 for wildflower honey. I'm not sure if it's a good thing that this amazing coffee roaster opened so close to me. It's a good thing in that this location has had sub par coffee for many years and MoonGoat is quite possibly the best coffee I've had in a long time. It's a bad thing in that I'm going there almost every day and spending a fortune. They obviously know and take great pride in coffee. This coffee shop misses the mark when it comes to quality coffee and service. I ordered a cold brew with vanilla syrup from this establishment. The verdict? The syrup tasted like plastic and the oat milk tasted stale. It seems odd to charge $1.35 for sugar-free syrup, too. Overall, my drink didn't taste good so I had it remade. When I tried their iced mocha, it tasted like carpet. So, I went to the cashier and said I'd be willing to pay extra for an alternative drink. In response, she charged me $8 for the matcha beverage. I spent around $18 in total for these drinks plus a chocolate cookie that tasted disgusting. Will not be returning. read more

I have been a regular all year but I almost paid $30 for 3/4lb of beans. They are good beans. But come on. $30 for beans and you can have a small drip. If it weren't the quality of the key people that are still here I would be going somewhere else way more often than I am now. The people are great and if I stop coming it impacts their livelihood. Moongoat has the best-quality espresso in OC, but unfortunately cannot be consumed by everyone. I suffer from epilepsy and a very sensitive stomach which, when triggered, can often cause a seizure. I went to Moongoat at 8:30 on a weekday, so it wasn't busy. The latte I drank gave me stomach cramps and nausea, and I had to throw it away before it caused a seizure. As a barista myself, I know exactly what happened. When I picked up my coffee, I saw that the milk had been left on the counter rather than in the fridge from the time I came into the time I picked my coffee up. I don't know how long it had been left there. Working at a tea shop myself, I suspect it had been there for a long time; I have seen that happen often at my shop. The milk tasted a little stronger/more pungent than usual, which is a sign it's been left out. Milk left out for more than 5-10 minutes always makes me very sick. It really, really doesn't take that much effort to put milk back in the fridge when it isn't being used - especially when the shop isn't busy. If Moongoat had integrity in keeping their ingredients fresh, I'd be a regular. Clarification: while I was waiting for my drink, I watched to see if the barista would put the milk away. She did not, and probably had not for a long time. Update: I was able to get a refund for my drink, but the manager I talked to was very dismissive showed no desire to take action to ensure quality output. A truly good business takes effort to make sure everyone can be a customer - not just those who don't have sensitive stomachs. read more

I used to love MoonGoat in Costa Mesa but the Hulk Juice (matcha and cascara (coffee fruit)) was made inconsistently (at times I could not taste any of the cascara) and at times it was hard to find seating due to the popularity. This location has comfortable indoor and outdoor seats, wifi part of the office building, ample parking, and the Hulk Juice was made perfectly by a friendly barista. read more

Was really excited to try this place, but after a couple visits I decided it wasn't for me. The coffee is decent, but the place is extremely crowded and there seemingly aren't enough employees to get people served in a timely manner. Their branding also comes off as extremely pretentious, with the whole "they're not beans they're actually seeds." This is a college hang out, closer to a Starbucks than your local coffee roasters. They sell some cool coffee gear, with the Aeropress, pourovers, hand grinders, etc., but that isn't enough to get me to come back. read more

The problem I had was the attitude of the cashier.
