So for breakfast, the syrup was clear corn syrup which is less than great. Our sunny side up eggs had runny whites and the fruit salad tasted as if it had been prepared two days ago. The bacon didn't seem freshly prepared either. Overall a disappointment, the one thing I liked was the toast. read more

Okay easy breakfast in Bernal Heights. We got two crepe specials and unfortunately the crepes were pretty oily/greasy. The flavors were spot on at least. The decor inside leaves something to be desired - our table was terribly lopsided and although there are murals, the place feels in need of more charm. read more

This is the kind of place where it matters what you order. The best stuff is terrific, the worst is pedestrian. The best: Port Wine Cheeseburger (port wine in the cheese) Philly Cheesesteak Chicken Pignole savory crepe The mood here has always been great, even better since they enlarged the seating area a few years back. You can sit at the outside tables with dogs. They'll refill your fancy coffee drink with house coffee. In short, this is not a coffee shop, it's a breakfast and lunch spot and there is nothing else quite in this niche in Bernal. The breakfast fare at Progressive and Martha's is really more croissants and muffins. I am happy to have it! Kind of challenging to eat here with more than four people, but it's nice to sit in the window nook if you have four. read more

I stumbled here after picking up some pickles at Paulie's Pickling down the street. My friend and I actually really wanted to try the waffles with poached eggs at Suite foods waffle shop but they are closed till the 14th. The staff here is super friendly and you order at the counter and sit down and they bring you your food. I order a Basilico crepe, which has basil, provolone, tomatoes and onions. My friend had the egg, ham and cheese sandwich on a croissant. My crepe was very good. It came with a side of salad and some home fries. The salad was very fresh and the potatoes good as well. I'm a huge crepe fiend so any time I can have them, I'm happy. I tried my friend's sandwich and it was very tasty. The croissant was so buttery. All in all, a very good spot to stop by for a crepe lunch. I should also mention they have a lot of other food on the menu besides crepes. Burgers, sandwiches, baked goods, etc. We also had mango iced tea and fresh squeezed oj and both were great. read more

Found this spot after walking to dinner last night and decided to try it. It was great! We got a croissant breakfast sandwich and the Cancun omelette. For drinks we got iced mochas. Service was really quick and friendly he made my drinks before I walked away and the food was ready by the time I was paying for everything. The guy behind the counter was super nice and he brought out all the food to our table. The Cancun omelette was a ton of food and came with potatoes that were well seasoned and two full pieces of bread. The sandwich was good and comes with egg and cheese with the option to add meat but I thought it was filling without the meat. read more

Ended up here for brunch with the smokin hot wife on the recommendation of Kunal, our charming host from the great AirBnB we stayed at nearby (that is recommended elsewhere). Anyway, the place is simple and charming, but the quality of food and coffee is very high. My wife had an exceptionally good Americano and I was served one of the best Mochas on the planet!! Brunch was very good as well, the staff were friendly and helpful and overall I would heartily recommend Moonlight Cafe to anyone. Good people watching spot as well. I like this place. Where else can I get a crepe within the Bernal Heights district? I use Crepevine as a benchmark for all crepes (it's the only crepe place that everyone and their mamas know) so compared to Crepevine, I'd have to say Crepevine is slightly better in quality and quantity. However, Moonlight Cafe's crepes are still worth it, and this place doesn't just serve crepes; they also serve breakfast such as pancakes, bagels and omelettes, burgers and sandwiches. The area is nice and the restaurant is spacious. What they really need to do is close later. They close at 6pm on the weekdays. How will I ever be able to eat here if that's when I get off of work? I stopped in with my family before a full day at The Amusement Park. My son wanted French Toast and my daughter wanted pancakes so I searched "best French Toast" on Yelp before we left the hotel and Moonlight Cafe was at the top of the list. Easy call!! The customer service was EXCELLENT!!! The staff made you feel welcomed from the moment you walked in the door. The food was delicious!!!! All of our "special requests" were fulfilled!! We are long time Bernalites, and can't say how much we appreciate Moonlight Cafe. They've been here from the beginning, and have always managed to keep prices low(er), especially as gentrification has hit hard. It's a family owned and run operation, with consistently good service and caring attitude. It's a favorite for breakfasts, but lunches are stellar as well. We even ordered for pick-up sandwiches in the good ol' days when we flew prior to COVID. Yum, the Turkey, avocado, & cheese sandwich! Stop buy and pick-up lunch to to. Walked in cold off the chilly Bernal Heights streets and checked out the menu... and saw CREPES!!!! Even better was my fave: apples and cinnanom!!! So I ordered a chai tea along with the crepes then poked around for today's newspaper, while listening "Highway to Heaven" on their little boombox. The place was empty at 5:12pm Monday evening - just having seen some orange-red clouds at the sunset through all the telephone wires in the area so I was feeling very good! I saw the old man (referred to by other reviewers) cut up an apple and that gave me a very good feeling! The chai was much better than across the street at Progressive Grounds - yeck - and when the crepes came, it was deliciously tasty!!! A bit of whipped cream with sprinkled cinnanom and apple pieces, and two crepes folded over with a light sauce and fried apples... hmmmmm I wuz in crepes heaven!! What really surprised me though was the cleanliness of the condiments table; even the shakers were clean and shiny!! wow!!! I have never in my life seen such clean and well-maintained condiments containers!! Even the honey squeeze bottle had a bit cut off its nozzle so a better tream could be squeezed out, and that's a rare sight in MY book!!! I'm a believer now and have found my Bernal Heights spot to eat and snack! Awesome, friendly service every time we eat here. Lots of locals and familiar faces come here. I don't blame them for coming back because their service and food are pretty good. If there for breakfast, a must try is their "fresh lox and the works". They spread cream cheese, a thin layer of fresh salmon, a handful of capers.. all nicely topped on a lightly toasted asiago bagel. It comes w/ slices of lettuce and tomato on the side. Tastes really good w/ their coffee... nice & strong. Whether for breakfast, brunch, or lunch their Chicken Pesto Crepe is pure goodness. It's filled w/ mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and provolone cheese... comes w/ seasoned potatoes and a lightly dressed salad. Nice hearty meal at any time of the day. If there for lunch, you should never leave without ordering their "sweet" crepe. I usually opt for their combo- banana, nutella, & strawberry. ((Sigh)) It's really good... There are other breakfast & lunch items on the menu that I haven't tried yet. I'm sure they are all really good, but I did eye somebody that ordered the Eggs Benedict. Ooooo, for the next breakfast visit.... Location: street parking is available, but again metered. Bring change. Tried this restaurant out about a month ago, given the reviews here on Yelp. It's a rather small place, with a hand-written menu behind the counter. I asked if they had a to-go menu, or any menu I could hold and read, but they didn't. The prices were higher than I wanted to spend for lunch, so I ordered something small - a simple crepe, with potatoes. The crepe was good, but the potatoes tasted sour - as if they were sprinkled with vinegar or something. I couldn't figure out what it was, and the taste turned me off, so I didn't eat them. Amazing cafe in the Bernal Heights neighborhood. I love coming here because the service is great and food always comes out fast and delicious. They have an extensive menu. They offers salads, vegetarian friendly dishes, crepes (savory or sweet), scrambles, omelettes, sandwiches, burgers, bagels, sides (their house potatoes are my favorite), breakfast combos, coffees, teas, juices, smoothies, you name it. Restroom for customers is always clean. Fun music playing throughout the day. There is plenty of seating inside or if you'd like you can sit outside and take in the fresh air. My family likes to eat here for lunch. We usually eat the sandwiches and hamburgers. Today my son and I came for breakfast and both ordered the #2 combo. I had the eggs over easy and he had scrambled, with our 2 buttermilk pancakes (freshly made ingredients), and bacon. They also have sausage as an option. I had drip coffee (Peerless beans) twice and he had a mocha. We thought the food was delicious and service was friendly and prompt. Great breakfast on Friday morning. Veggie scramble with the fixins. Super friendly service and we got our order quickly. We watched the cook and he was moving! After COVID I will have a seat in the dining room and enjoy a second cup of that dark rich coffee....hate weak coffee so 5 stars for the hearty java. i went on a trip to san fran with my friends and chose the moonlight cafe for breakfast. just got a breakfast burrito and orange juice and it was $20 dollars. my friend got a $7 smoothie that tasted like orange juice purée. they mixed up our order and 3/5 of us got the wrong order. it tasted good but i think it would of tasted better if i got the right thing. read more

The reason I go back is because the menu has many healthy items (Mediterranean Platter is my favorite) and the food is made from scratch. Additionally, the family-owned business makes its customers feel part of the family. This is truly a neighborhood establishment in the best possible sense. A few more trendy (and pricey) places have sprouted up along Cortland, but Moonlight remains my go-to spot. read more

This is one great place to have brunch. So much to choose from the enormous menu. Cafeteria style order, you get a number so you can save time not having to wait for your waiter to come by. You can choose where you want to sit. The food comes out hot. I had the Spanish Omelette with home fries and wheat toast. The best is fresh squeezed orange juice, that was sweet. I went in this morning and ordered an orange crepe, which according to the menu comes with ice cream. When it came there was no ice cream. I went to the counter and they told me they were out of ice cream, and offered me extra whipped cream instead. The orange crepe is several dollars more expensive than the other crepes besides the combo, presumably because it comes with ice cream. Please tell me ahead of time that it's out instead of not say anything, and charging me the same amount for a crepe without ice cream. The crepe itself was good, but it's disappointing not getting what you paid for. read more
