I've lived in the neighborhood my whole life and I just never liked anything I've tried there. Like... not sure if not cooked well (like they overcook it) but it's just not impressive. Not very flavorful. The service is great though and the people are very nice. Maybe I'll find something I like there one day? I would suggest going to mixed traditions next door or even Bernal star. Step Into The Moonlight!! I've come here twice with a friend recently and had great breakfasts and good experiences both times. Sam and the staff are friendly and answer questions and offer suggestions for whatever you want from their extensive menu. The first visit, I had the omelette with smoked salmon and feta cheese and my friend had scrambled eggs and we both had house potatoes. The second time I had French toast with bacon and house potatoes and my friend had the burger (on a great looking bun!) with fries. All of the food was very tasty and perfectly cooked in no time at all. My friend adds: Yes, the hamburger buns are fantastic [wish I knew where to buy the same]. The portion sizes are generous. French fries are excellent and the house potatoes are also. All of the food has been great. Very good, attentive service and the food came quickly. My only disappointment is the draft ice tea comes in too-small of a mug [I am not aware of a free refill policy, but should ask if they have one next time]. My getting a Snapple tea with a mug of ice gave me more than three mugs worth of beverage. So all in all, it is definitely worth a stroll into Moonlight Cafe! read more

Just had a very strange experience with Moonlight Cafe- I ordered/paid through the ordermoonlightcafe.com web site that Yelp links to as the official Moonlight Cafe site. When I got there to pick up, my order was ready but they said I hadn't paid, even though I showed them my credit card app entry for MOONLIGHTCAFE. I tried to show them the links and ordering process, but they didn't want to hear about it. I had to leave hungry since I didn't want to pay twice, and now I need to call my credit card company to dispute the charge. I'm really not sure what happened, but I'd warn other customers against ordering/paying through the web site. read more

I ordered ahead of time for pick-up, so I didn't have to wait for my food, since it wasn't open for dine in during COVID-19. I got the Chicken Pesto Savory Crepe that comes with Potatoes. It had Mushroom, Tomato, Onion, Chicken, Pesto, and Provalone Cheese. It has good flavor that reminded me of childhood when I used to get this. The taste was exactly the same. The problems are that some of the Chicken was dry and they have really downsized. The meal used to be enough to fill a plate, but now it is a small Crepe that is barely enough for one person. Definitely not worth that much money even though it still tastes like the same savory Crepe with Chicken and Pesto. It is just too expensive for the amount of food you get. Overall, if you want to be ripped off getting a tiny meal that is barely enough for one person, then this is the place for you. If not, I would recommend another place that is less expensive. read more

I'm so glad I decided to go here for breakfast today. Rather than waiting in a long line for Sunday brunch, I strolled right into moonlight cafe, ordered, and sat down right away. It has capers, smoked salmon (but not too smoked), spinach, onions, etc. The dish is massive- I usually eat it as 2 meals. I've had everything from their steel cut oatmeal to their falafel sandwich. All prepared well and always delicious. Can't go wrong with this place. For drinks: If you order in, they serve you freshly squeezed OJ in a frosted glass. It's so good, my family still talks about it when I took them there 2 years ago, during their visit. Also, their mango ice tea (unsweetened) is addicting. I'm not sure why I never ventured into the Moonlight Cafe before, but on a walk one day I decided to stop for lunch. I like consulting my Yelp App on my iPhone to tell me what's open and where to go. Good Choice. It seems they do a lot of breakfast, brunch and lunch ad have quite the selection. I ordered a cheeseburger which came with french fries. I put a big heart of condiments on my burger to show my appreciation. The fries were good, those really long and big potato fries when served crispy and not oily - are just the perfect big fries. I ate about half the burger and fries, took the rest to go. I even enjoyed my burger leftovers the next day. read more

You get a choice of bagel: onion, pumpernickel, poppy seed, plain, I chose an everything- I wanted it all! ...and got it for $4.75. Water faucet and cups available on the side. Service was good. I ordered through Uber Eats as a desperate late weekday morning attempt for breakfast while severely jet lagged. In my delirium, I forgot to take photos of everything. I liked their sustainable packaging (the box with the crêpe was 100% recycled materials). Almost no vegan options bummed me out, so I settled for a vegetarian meal not knowing there were plenty of vegan places closer to me. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese, the Mediterranean crêpe (with potatoes), and a chai latte. 1. The bagel was delicious! Well toasted, with a good amount of cream cheese. I'm glad I ordered it last second as an add on, because it was the only thing I enjoyed. 2. The chai latte was foamy, but did not have strong spice, and was fairly bitter/ not sweet. It didn't impress me, and didn't satisfy my desire for a good chai. 3. The Mediterranean crêpe wasn't my speed, which surprised me because I love both crêpes and Mediterranean flavors. The cheese in it was off-putting (the cheddar was low quality tasting; the feta was okay, but no other flavors helped bring it together like usual in Mediterranean dishes), and the artichokes were too big, creating a difficult eating experience. The crêpe had plenty of filling, but I feel like I didn't get to enjoy the flavor of the crêpe itself because it was so full. The potatoes were fine -- overall that meal was not worth $17 to me, and it tasted like American diner food. The bottom line is: There are probably a ton of better cafés closer to where I'm staying that use higher quality ingredients and are more of what I'm looking for. I attribute my decision to eat here to Uber Eats' suggestion; next time I know better that this food simply isn't for me! read more

This place has been fooling Bernal for years with their mediocre, overpriced food. I moved here 20 years ago and have eaten at Moonlight Cafe all of three times. Each time has been a disappointment. Super salty Benedict that was cold. Nothing like congealed butter sauce over eggs to start your day off. The scrambled eggs were bone dry. Salads were under dressed and boring. The crepes...well to call them crepes is insulting. More like eggy tortillas. Thick, burnt, and rubbery Good on you Moonlight. You got me again but this will be the last time. I really wanted to like this place, neighborhood spot, both parents Bernal kids. Ordered 2 full sticks of pancakes, sausages and a mocha. In special direction out extra butter. The food came hot, so I thought that was a good start. But then I opened the bag, not only did I not get extra butter, I got NO butter. No butter, no syrup, no cutlery and no napkins. So I was upset. Went to eat the food.... the pancakes tasted as if they used spoiled dairy. I've never had sour pancakes in my life, so that was a fail. Sausage was sausage, nothing great; missing those certain spices though. The white chocolate mocha tasted like it was made from a powdered mix and water. No chocolate taste oddly not even an espresso taste. I will not order take out or delivery from this Place again. Maybe when the pandemic ends I will go there to eat, so if I need something I can ask for it there. read more

Manners seem to be a lost art in some areas- try a please, thank you, excuse me, etc...Maybe the issue is clearly were not local, not sure but I'm ok with it staying that way! Breakfast is basic and very pricey for what you get. Sausage links were not cooked through all the way but my mother refused to let me bring it up to the counter and ask for a replacement.
