This restaurant is really a hidden treasure. We come to the Avi about once a month and decided to try the Moonshadow Grille when we got sick of the Panda Express and Subway that is in the hotel. Wow! What a great restaurant. Everything from the bread to the soup to the delicious entrees and dessert are really high quality. I haven't yet had an entree or appetizer that I didn't love. This place is amazing. We went here for a late dessert right before closing. I expected to get side looks and less than enthusiastic service but it was quite the opposite. I really enjoyed this restaurant. Very classy white table cloths, gourmet food with a wide variety. I had a wonderful escargot with a creamy Parmesan sauce that was delicious and a bowl of lobster bisque. Definitely the place to go eat when visiting Avi Casino and Resort. read more

Went back to our favorite restaurant last night. Very dissatisfied. New crew and chef. The steaks are no longer prime and were very bad. 3 of us had the rib eye. 1/2" thick and tough like leather. No one liked it. The service was horrible with all the people on their first day. However the prices are still up there. The quality has always been too notch here. All has changed. What a bummer. The lobster bisque was the worst as well as the French onion. Everything was microwaved. read more

After a hectic day of travelling and ending up at the Avi RV park we decided to try the Moonshadow Grill. Service was exemplary. We ordered off the "2 for $50" menu. We got a nice large pour of very decent wine, salad, entree with potato and vegetable and dessert. My husband had the pork chop and I had a ribeye and they were both quite good. I read all the reviews before posting mine and I can't help but to be shocked by the negativity some of these reviews give off about this place. I was down in Laughlin with my girlfriend for the weekend and aside from having a good time we had amazing food here. Not only was the food astonishing but the service was excellent. Our server Jeff, was very very polite and knew how to keep a conversation. I've been in food service before and I know how stressful it can be and I find it rather soothing when I meet people in the business like Jeff. Such a positive mind and energy. I probably won't be coming back to Laughlin soon but when I do, I'm definitely coming by to try some more of the food at this place. Husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Fantastic, friendly service. We sat in a large booth - the restaurant is dimly lit -- romantic! I ordered the lamb which was served perfectly - quite a generous portion - I took half of it home! Husband ordered the pork porterhouse and garlic mashed potatoes -- Yummo on both counts! (small) negatives: the water did not taste very good -- it was served without ice (which they promptly brought to us upon request). Also my asparagus was served only slightly warm. I never expected this kind of food at Avi, the place itself is in need of updating so I wasn't expecting to have world class gourmet food there but I did. Steakhouses in casinos really vary in quality, but this one is quite nice. When we arrived we saw a sign that stated "2 for $50" but we had to ask for that menu. Sure glad we did! A really sensational deal. Our meal began with a basket of bread, several kinds and all warm, soft, and delicious (we took the leftovers home!). We started with the house salad which was really nothing special but totally acceptable. I had the pork chop with mashed potatoes and green beans. The pork was tender and flavorful though I thought the sauce could have been more intense. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes but I loved the green beans which were cooked with onions and bacon and were crisp and fresh. Generous servings: I took half the pork home. My husband enjoyed the steak but found it just a little stringy; it was cooked to his medium order which doesn't always happen. It was also accompanied by green beans and steak fries. The meal deal included a glass of the house wine which was nice. Desert was also included. My husband had the raspberry cheesecake which he said was light and rich and creamy. We were given a chocolate dessert for our anniversary; it reminded me of a DingDong. A little dry but intensely chocolate with some under-sweetened whipped cream and fresh, delicious raspberries. I had ordered the lemon cake which I took home. Great lemony taste but also a bit dry which could be because I didn't taste it until the next day. The service was okay. High end it is not but this is probably the value meal we have had in years. They run a 2 for $50 meal special daily and it is a real bargain. Last night the choices were a 10 oz. pork chop, chicken, ribeye, or tilapia. I had the pork chop and my wife had the chicken. Both were perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned, with fresh veggies, potatoes, a nice assortment of bread, a glass of wine each, and desert. All for $25 a head. A very nice experience. read more

The service was excellent as we had a team waiter and waitress that were very attentive, friendly and promptly provided anything we asked for. The Moonshadow Grill was elegant and comfortable. The champagne was delivered by the bottle left on your table for as much as you please. The food, WOW! in addition to a great buffet they had ala carte menu included in the price which offered, blackened prime Rib, shrimp scampi, hot crab legs, eggs Benedict and several other yummy options. The Buffet: seafood bar included peeled shrimp, crab legs, oysters, salmon, caviar, etc... Prime Rib carving station, Omelet bar, hot dishes like crab stuffed shrimp, braised duck, escargot, pork loin, beef tenderloin, and the usual breakfast foods. Huge dessert bar! Fruit station! I'll take you step by step. We were greeted by the restaurant manager, very pleasant and fun woman. Great smile. She took us to our table, one of 8 tables that were occupied. They had 2 waiters and 1 waitress on that night. We sat and waited 8 minutes before we flagged down the manager to give us a wine list and waters. She was mumbling her words and had a slight giggle as well. She brought back our waters and without pen and paper attempted to take our drink order, repeated back to us a complete different order so I corrected her and gave her the entire drink order over again. I'm pretty sure she had thrown back a few herself before or during her shift. 10 minutes later she brought our drink order. In this time we still haven't seen the wait staff. 43 minutes, I was timing them, goes by and our waiter finally came by with some menus. One table had ordered drinks and got up and left before they got them because they too had waited even longer than us. To our surprise Our waiter came back a couple minutes later to take our order. I ordered the halibut. My mother and sister did the 2 for $50, my daughter ordered the sirloin and my stepdad ordered the 7 onion soup. 17 minutes later our waiter comes back and says they were all out of halibut, 17 minutes. So I asked for the salmon, all out of salmon. So I just asked for the pecan rice and a salad. 8 minutes after the order our salads came and 2 minutes later our entrees arrived. While we were eating our empty sat there without being cleared, overcrowded!!! In the meantime we had asked for another round of drinks 2 X's. We didn't get the drinks until halfway through dinner. All entrees tasted of liquid smoke, even the rice. My daughter had asked for lemons for her water and she never received them. I walked over to the bar in the casino to get the table ice and limes because they had no lemons. We had to flag down a different waiter to get another round of drinks and dessert. Still not seeing our waiter. Kuddos to the bus boy for being the only attentive staff member. Overall extremely disappointed in the management, staff, food and the service. I just took my family to the Moon shadow grille for thanksgiving. I have severe food allergies so I researched the menu before I got there& found that they had rib eye steak which I could eat. I'm allergic to turkey and fish so I couldn't eat those dinners. The waiter delivered my meal & disappeared. I realized the steak was mostly fat. There wasn't any staff around. The waiter didn't return until the end of the meal. My family had finished their meals. I told the waiter situAtion & he said he would get the manager. Crystal Trescartes, the manager came over. I showed her my steak. She said that the rib eye is a very fatty steak. I just bought a rib eye steak from Smiths & it didn't have anywhere the fat. Crystal offered me a turkey or fish dinner. I said I couldn't eat them. Plus my family was done eating. Crystal said she was sorry . I said I was sorry too. Not once did crystal offer me a discount off the $100 dinner bill. My husband and I had dinner here for our anniversary. We took advantage of their 2for $50 deal which is a great bargain. We both chose the pork chop and were very pleased. Cooked to perfection. The ambiance is nice and service is great. Only one complaint and that is while having made the effort to offer a fine dining experience with piano music playing in the background etc, we could barely hear it because they leave the doors open to the casino noise. After a long drive we managed to choose the worst restaurant we have been to so far,, yes it was that bad. I am not sure how this chef gets 4 stars on yelp. The meatball soup was basically thick marina sauce maybe from the children's buffet with meatballs that consisted of cartilage rather than meat, all decorated with some pasta. The manager insisted it's meatballs, pasta with lots of sauce so it's a soup. The ribeye was maybe a fifth inch thick & very greasy. The waiter seems to be nice but that is really not enough. I was just happy I hadn't given the rack of lamb ($48) a chance. read more

Great for smaller parties, not so great with a party of 12 or more, they put you in the overflow next door, some italian restaurant that's next door with connecting entrances thru the kitchen walk way, not cool, you feel like you'll be asked to wash dishes later. also, service tends to be slower since you're out of sight, you can't help but to think that your waiter is inside tending to all the other patrons on the side you should be in. Once you order your drinks and you're able to roam around on your own to attack the buffet you're pretty much on your own. It's getting your drinks and any hot plates special ordered from the kitchen that take forever. Next time it's probably best to break up your parties and not eat together, you'll enjoy the service better and the ambiance. Remember you're paying for premimum buffet for you to not only eat their food but to be eating inside the moonshadow grille, not outside in the italian restaurant side... Lesson learned. As a vacationer in Needles, we were looking for a good family restaurant that value quality over quantity and we found the place at Black Bear. We thought the breakfast of bacon, sausage and eggs was very good and although dismayed at the over-crisped bacon, it was acceptably tasty due in part to the quality of the bacon, The fluffy and light biscuit, an option on the menu instead of toast, was really good. Dined here again last week. Had three girlfriends visiting here from San Francisco. As everyone that lives here knows, we are a little challenged in the fine dining department. I was also extremely nervous having three San Francisco residents critiquing one of our dining establishments, as the dining experience in San Francisco is absolutely fabulous from the little hole in the wall restaurants to holy moly expensive restaurants. Well, Moonshadow Grille did not disappoint again. There were five of us. We all ordered the nightly special. Four of us had the lobster, THE boyfriend had the filet/lobster. First they bring an assortment of artisan breads and butter ... yum! The nightly special dinners started with prawn cocktails with those giant sized prawns draped over the side of a martini glass over a bed of lettuce and cocktail sauce. The lobster dinners consisted of two 4-ounce tails (that's right ... two!) with THE boyfriend having his filet mignon/one tail lobster. All entrees come over a bed of asparagus, served with soup or salad, potatoes of your choice (mashed, baked, fries). I can't begin to describe how good dinner was and my S.F. friends were quite impressed, considering the nightly special dinners are only $25. It definitely is quite a lot of food ... so if you go, go hungry! We all left quite happy and stuffed. read more

So underwhelmed by everything about this place. I had heard good reviews on Moonshadow years ago and I'm not sure if it has gone down hill or the people were drunk and didn't notice how terrible the food was. 3 of us ordered steaks and the other salmon. Salad was out of a bag and nothing I would even eat at home. The New York steak was a choice steak for $37. The steak came with 3 carrots and rice that tasted like it was out of a box! The steak itself was supposed to come with fried onions and did not. It was tough and had no flavor. The other 2 steaks were bone in ribeyes for $50 and came with a sauce on top that was terrible and didn't state in the description on the menu. The salmon was just OKAY... Baked potato was cold and carrots were undercooked. The only good thing about this meal was the company. We did let the server know because we couldn't lie and say it was good when we all agreed it was terrible. And they did comp 3 of our meals. Good customer service, bad food. read more

We dined here recently because of the good reviews. We first received some buns in a basket...they looked and tasted like ordinary packaged buns you'd buy at a grocery store. We asked were is breadbasket of breads people raved about on Yelp? We did get some nice breads after we asked. We were with friends for a 'special' dinner and ordered chateau briand for two...medium. The waiter carved it at the table, but there was no real presentation. Each plate contained 2 slices of meat an over abundance of broccoli and a baked potato. That's it. No sauce on the meat, mine was medium my friends was well done...yet cut from the same piece. For $68 we were disappointed...the manager came over, she said she'd have the chef make us some Bernaise for the meat. By the time it came, the meat was cold, and it wasn't Bernaise. The waiter said the chef doesn't like making sauces. The other two in the party had prime rib and a filet...both said they had had better. The manager apologized and took the price of the wine off the bill. The waiter said it was the normal chef's night off. I'm sure it is a good restaurant ordinarily, but we just had bad luck that night. read more
