Just got home from a long weekend getaway at Moonstone Landing. I found Moonstone on yelp and from reading the reviews I trusted it would be a good place to stay. I also liked the $150 /night winter rate-so affordable! Moonstone is one of the newer and nicer looking hotels on this street. Just across the road from the beach, it is a beautiful location for some R&R. Our room was upstairs with an ocean view. [Not directly facing the ocean, those rooms cost more, but we could see the ocean.] A fireplace was a nice addition to the room and the mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker were also great to have included. An extensive breakfast spread is offered each morning with oatmeal, pastries, fruit, OJ, coffee, tea, hot cocoa etc. Every evening they put out a cheese plate assortment which was fun and a great little snack before venturing out to one of Cambria's cute restaurants. Also included in your stay - DVDs! They have a large library of movies you can rent for free. The staff was friendly and helpful. They suggested great restaurants for dining and had coupons and maps available for us. The hotel was clean and had a lot of extras for a great price. I was really stoked about this place! read more

We are locals and we're looking for a staycation in our area. My wife found this place through all the Yelp reviews and once again our fellow Yelpers did not let us down. The rooms are large and everything appears fresh and new. Hardwood bamboo flooring throughout is a nice touch. The fireplace in our room was perfect and put off plenty of heat. One of the best parts is being able to hear the ocean. So sleeping with a window open to hear the ocean and a fire going was perfect. Additionally, you are just steps from the beach and a beautiful boardwalk. So if your looking for a nice morning run or walk or you want to go collect rocks on the beach it's all right there. Another plus is this hotel is right next to one of the best place to eat in the county, The Sea Chest." So when we are looking for another staycation I know where we are coming. read more

We stopped here for our second night of our honeymoon. Our stay was for two nights. We initially were only planning on spending one night here so we booked it for one night. After more discussion we decided it would be cool to stay there for another night. When we first arrived it was foggy outside and visibility was minimal. No worries, we just needed to check in since it was already 4pm. My husband tried to see if we could get the same room for the two nights, but we were told they couldn't accommodate our request and that we would be assigned a different room the night after. No big deal. The hotel was small as are all the hotels on Moonstone Beach so it didn't bother us so much. They even offered to move our luggage to the new room for us so we didn't have to hang out all day or keep our luggage in our car. The first room was on the first floor on the north side of the hotel. It was clean and tidy with partial ocean view, however the view was more of the hotel next door, but since we were on the first floor, we weren't going to keep our curtains opened. The room also came with a microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge which were very useful. We had leftovers from the restaurant next door who served large portions and my husband was able reheat his midnight snack of leftover dinner. The only complaints I had about the room was the lack of towels. Two bath towels, two hand towels and two wash cloths. The bathroom was set to low flow which we weren't fans of...maybe because of where we live. Haha! On the first day we missed the afternoon snacks, which were served between 4pm to 6pm daily, due to a prior engagement we had at a nearby castle. We did sample the snacks the day after which consisted of a small variety of crackers, cheeses, veggies and salami. Martinelli's sparkling cider was served as a refreshment. There weren't too many dinner options along the beach. The only restaurant within walking distance was the Sea Chest and we were not disappointed! The hotel serves a daily continental breakfast consisting of pastries, bagels, cereal and toast. Not fancy, but it was good. Our second room was pretty much the same. The only difference was the view. Our room this time was facing south and on the second level which gave us a better view of the ocean. As promised our luggage was moved to the new room for us. The hotel also has a hot tub and easy access to the beach. The staff was friendly and the maid service was great. We will probably stay here again. read more

I just 'needed' to be at the coast for my birthday. We'd never been to Cambria or Moonstone Beach and now we're hooked! There was plenty of room for our family of 4 with 2 teen boys. Nice, clean rooms/bathroom with great bed. Hearing the surf as we slept was a treat for this Central Valley girl. read more

What a GEM!!! Went here for the weekend To escape with my boyfriend.. Lovely retreat from LA and was everything I hoped it would be, but MORE.. Upon check in we were greeted by Mary at the front desk, I was tired from the drive and her energy, warm welcome, and excitement got me pumped up. She recommended local restaurants, told us about our Hearst castle tour and what time to arrive and a few tips.. She also told us about a local holiday lights display that we COULDN'T miss, she literally planned out an itinerary for us and we couldn't be happier with her suggestions.. We upgraded our room to the ocean front balcony and it was breathtaking, clean, and perfect. Room 101!!!! Complimentary Continental breakfast was perfect and a definite bonus.. Taking a road trip with my girlfriend to southern Cali and we decided last minute to visit Hearst castle but it was getting a little too dark and late so we needed a place to rest and sleep. Called a few places in Cambria and they were booked. Called these guys and they had a few vacancies with partial ocean front views for $250 a night so I decided to go ahead a book a room. When we got there the ladies at the front desk greeted us with a smile and made us feel welcomed. First impression...Not bad at all. Smelled clean. Looked nice as well. Pro: The room was very clean and spacious. The staff were very nice. Partial ocean front view. Right next to seafood restaurants. Complimentary Breakfast was good. People were really friendly and nice when we took a stroll down the pathway by the ocean. Beautiful views all around!! Also, Hearst castle was very close. Con: bed was kinda(lumpy) uncomfortable. Restaurants were super busy and packed so we had to wait an hour to be seated. Overall, nothing too bad to complain about at all. Highly recommended!! We will revisit and make time one day soon!! read more

I planned a very last minute getaway for our anniversary and checked around for hotels. I am always skeptical about pictures online of hotels because I've been burned before. This one however not only did it not dissapoint, it surpassed! We got excellent help from Ashley in the office and had a hassle free check in. She went well above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. The hotel isn't too far from downtown and has the beach right across the street! We went for a late night walk and a drink down the street as well. Cambria is beautiful and this hotel definitely is a must! The fireplace in the room is such a great touch! We woke up to the sound of the waves crashing and the smell of ocean. Clean room, clean bathroom, comfy bed, flooring...it is great! Will come again and highly recommended it! read more

My boyfriend and I needed some time away and I love the pacific coast so we decided on Cambria. I did some research and based on the yelp ratings, we chose Moonstone Landing. I am so glad we did. The staff was extra nice and accommodating and full of useful information regarding Cambria. We had a partial ocean view room and upgraded to a full ocean view room on the second floor and wow, what a difference. The place was clean, large bathroom, stunning views and the best thing was falling asleep to the sound of the majestic pacific ocean each night. We plan on returning many times. read more

This is one of the most delightful small American motels I've ever visited. It's gloriously situated at the edge of the PCH and overlooks a bluff and a clean sweep of beach. The hotel is nicely kept and recently redecorated, and offered nice toiletries. We loved the hot tub and our fireplace, and the amazing sunset everyone came out to enjoy, including some dolphins! The continental breakfast was pleasant out in the patio garden. We would definitely come back again! read more

With so many Inns to choose from it can be difficult to settle on one. Up and down the scenic Coast there is a collection of intimate yet stylish ends to select. A room with a partial View was a nice place to stay. The bed was comfortable the fireplace is controlled by a thermostat but added a nice touch. The breakfast was simple pastries toast boiled eggs oatmeal and some fruit. It was tasty. It is wise if your budget doesn't allow you to get a full Ocean View room to get an upstairs room. Nevertheless when you cross the street you're just a few steps from the shore. It is a pretty good deal. Not super luxurious better than average. This place is AMAZING! We got a great deal on expedia because we decided to go on a weekday rather than at the weekend. $100 a night for an upstairs room with a view. I was able to book 2 rooms right across from each other because my in-laws were visiting. It's an exquisite little boutique hotel, just steps away from the beach. The rooms have fireplaces where you can see and hear the ocean. The front desk lady was very charming and accommodating. We arrived in Cambria on a Tuesday at about 3:30 pm. The hotel was pretty empty. I had asked about the complimentary snacks, and she said that they were probably not going to have them as there were not many guests...but voila, 5 minutes later she changed her mind and set up some nice snacks that hit the spot after a long drive. The hotel has a book full menus from most of the local restaurants, which were very convenient. The lady also let me borrow a corkscrew, some wine glasses, and the game Yahtzee so we could enjoy ourselves in our room. The continental breakfast was plentiful with a selection of choices. I slept like a baby. Superb customer service, romantic atmosphere, and full of the quaint Cambria charm. I hope to come back. read more

First let me start by saying the best customer service ever an beautiful rooms. We wanted to stay here 2 nights but she only had 1 night available with an ocean view. So Anna began to call her sister hotels trying to find us a room for 2 nights. She was amazing calling hotels along Cambria an San Simeon before finding us another wonderful hotel. My wife and daughter and I had the pleasure of visiting our favorite city and staying at Moonstone Landing for the first time. Upon arrival we were made to feel welcome by the staff there who are exceptionally warm and kind. Our room was beautiful and the beds were comfortable and the only thing negative thing about our stay is that we were only there 1 night, when we would have booked for several days had we known the entire experience was going to be this positive. Also worth noting that there is a wonderful breakfast offered in the morning. But I have to say that you can have a great location right across from the beach, a beautiful hotel, but it doesn't matter that much unless you have a terrific staff and Moonstone Landing has Mary and Sherry, both of whom assisted us at the front desk. They set the tone for the stay, so welcoming and happy to help us. It makes a huge difference when you have folks like that. read more

This is a truly excellent hotel. We booked one of the front rooms with an ocean view. Everything from the bed, the huge bathroom, the awesome balcony - it was all great. We loved it. Yes it's expensive as heck but it's worth it. No, there's no air conditioning - but guess what, they give you a fan in case you have issues with that. read more

Overall we had a pretty good stay here. It's a little hotel right by the beach and near Main Street Cambrian, where most restaurants are located at. The rooms are clean and staff is friendly. The only downside was absence of AC, which I guess is common among all properties in the area. Nevertheless, it was somewhat hot during the early hours of the night, but that wasn't a big issue because shortly after the weather cooled off for the rest of the night. The room does have a fireplace for heat in case it gets too cold, which wasn't the case during our stay! read more

The rooms have a lot of Craftsman touches which I appreciate. The rooms are sizable and so are the bathrooms. It is a very clean property and has a jacuzzi near the office. They have free continental breakfast and an evening wine and cheese offering. The location is hard to beat given it is directly across from Moonstone Beach. This beach may be the 2nd most impressive in Cali with Carmel being the first. Day and night walks are very enjoyable along the wooden plank walkways. Tons of squirrels hang out under and around the planks. The staff is fairly friendly but can be a little hands-off until you initiate discussion. This may be simply due to the fact that many visit this town for the quiet small town ambiance, relaxation and escape from the big city. The only thing I'd like to see is an upgrade on mattresses as they're clearly dated and they could use a Serta hotel grade upgrade. The in-room coffee-maker is much appreciated given some hotels have begun to veto this feature. read more

We stayed at Moonstone Landing during Spring Break in April. It was perfect, the people were very helpful and friendly - the room was very clean, and comfortable. I loved the extras: DVDs, breakfast and snacks in the evening. The location is really, really divine, with the beach literally right across the street. I'd upgrade to a balcony room next time, but wouldn't hesitate to stay in a partial ocean view room again either. read more

Beautiful rooms! The decor is simple and clean with soft comfortable beds and even softer pillows. We got a beach view so left the door slightly open and fell asleep to the sound of waves. We checked in late so had to retrieve our room key from a little lock box and the employee in the office was very sweet and helped direct us to our room. The view of moonstone beach is breathtaking and literally just a walk across the street. Very happy with our stay and will definitely be back for our next trip! read more

I booked a room for my family which was upcoming 3/24/18. I had requested a rollaway bed with my online booking as my two daughters 12&9 argue while sharing a bed. I received a call within an hour of booking from a representative from the property. She asked me why I needed a roll away. I explained the situation. She then questioned why I can't handle my girls sharing a bed. She then asked again why I needed a roll away. I told her again the situation. She then told me I could put a pillow between them in bed. I was taken back by her forcefulness. I asked her why this is such a big deal to her. She then attempted to backtrack. I told her I would just bring an air bed for one of my girls. She said ok and that she would be sure to provide extra sheets for the air bed. I was very hesitant to keep my reservation. Today -one week later- I received an email from the property that we cannot bring an air bed. After submitting an email to management to express my ordeal since I booked I was responded with -You misinterpreted and "Our employee is very well liked." read more

We just stayed here. It is clean. The breakfast of hard boiled eggs, toast, fruit and homemade yogurt and granola coffee and tea was good but limited. The lady at the desk was friendly, and when our tv didn't work came and fixed it. My only complaint was room 108 was sweltering, with no ventilation except for one window which wasn't great because it opened out into the parking lot. Noisy and a safety risk to leave it open. The winter sun really beat down. It was quite uncomfortable. There is no air conditioning. The only extra heat is a gas log in the fireplace. If you stay here ask for a room on the shady side not on the restaurant side. read more

This couldn't have have been more misrepresented if they tried. Booked an "ocean view room" for $250 a night. Pictures of the room showed a balcony, hot tub, fireplace, all bright and spacious overlooking the ocean. Actual room was tiny, ocean view was a little corner window, no hot tub in the room (only front ocean facing rooms have this) which is what I thought I had booked, disappointed to find out this was not the case. Hardly worth the money spent especially reading other reviews claiming a much better price for the same or better room. Place does have easy beach access across the street and the front desk clerk was friendly and provided change for the vending machines located downstairs from our room. But, it wasn't enough to consider a return visit. read more

I love this place! The rooms are large and unique. Instead of a standard heater, they have a fireplace that you control by a thermostat. Our room had a beautiful view and bay windows as well as a tasteful furniture, including a dining table. It was NOT at all like a Joe-Standard hotel room. The bathroom was large and had a small hairdryer that was incredibly powerful. Definitely the BEST continental breakfast I have ever had! Myriad of choices. I'm only giving this 4 stars is because the staff wasn't overly friendly. read more

A great, economical couples get-away. So reasonable, so comfortable, it felt luxurious even though it was just a simple place. We had a really comfy king bed in a spacious room with gas fireplace for under $150 mid-week. If you don't want to splurge for a full ocean view (or they are sold out), request the second floor partial view, so you are slightly above the parking lot level. These rooms are on the side but you can see the ocean from the sitting area and if you open the windows you can sleep to the sound of the surf crashing on beautiful Moonstone Beach just across the little road. The location is stunning. It's on a beach road which seems too upscale to offer such reasonable lodgings. The women at the desk were super-nice. The check-in office is also the breakfast room. It is bright and cheerful with partial ocean view (it's in the back but very light with wooden tables and a nice buffet area.) No cooked breakfast foods, just pastries, oatmeal, etc, but good quality. They also have board games and some DVDs you can borrow for free. From 4-6pm great little antipasto buffet (also included). Sparkling apple juice, coffee, tea. Hot tub on back patio was also very nice for an evening dip. We really loved this place. Good vibes all around. read more

I am sad to give Moonstone Landing 2 stars... It has an awesome view, modernized rooms and is very clean!! When the experience went down hill was at night. We could hear the person above us snoring!!! The worst part was I had a sleep sound machine on and I could still hear them.. Around 6am we hear the people above talking, coughing and walking around. Keep in mind, the sleep sound noise was still on. The last thing that happened, I was in the bathroom with the fan on and heard their alarm go off. It's crazy how thin the walls are in this hotel!! We got in after dark, so we missed the sunset from our balcony :( We got this awesome room with a great jetted tub.( FYI: don't put the whole bottle of bath soap in) The bed was so comfy. Everything was great until we went down for breakfast. While having our breakfast in the lobby. I innocently asked the front desk (woman) if we could request a late check out. She smiles and says sure, what would you like 5:00. I say, really? how about 3:00. Then she informs me it's a weekend and that's not possible. So I ask her what the latest is for checking out. She tells me she can give us an additional 30 minutes. Unless we want to book another night, for a different room. All she had to say in the beginning was they were booked and that a late check out was not possible. No need to be a smart arse! There are alot of nice looking hotels on this strip, and I don't fore see staying here again. read more

Other than winning a huge lottery so that I can buy my own ocean front property in Cambria, this is the only place I ever want to stay on Moonstone Beach. It's one of the newer hotels if not the newest on the strip. I accidentally discovered it a few years ago when I was on my way home to Burbank from Big Sur and I needed to stretch my legs on the beach before a long drive. On a whim, I checked out the then new hotel, and Dan--the extra super cool manager-- graciously showed me a second floor ocean front room; since it was already late in the day, he offered it to me for a reduced price, yay. I promptly called home to L.A. and told 'em I'd be home later. MUCH later! And now I never want to leave this gem of a hotel whenever I go up to Cambria. From the minute I walk in my room until the second I check out, I open the sliding door to let the sound of waves take all my cares away. The rooms have everything I need to feel at home: gas fireplace, microwave, fridge, coffee pot, cable TV, deep soaking tub, and simple, tasteful decor when so many of the Cambria hotels are filled w/fake flowers and fru fru. I like that I can bring a lot of my own food so that I can spend more time hiking and beach combing, rather than spend all that coin and time taking all my meals at restaurants. The front desk staff is so helpful and friendly. It's a family owned and operated hotel, and they always make me feel like I'm home there. I can't wait to go back! read more

Wonderful place across a quiet street from the ocean and tide pools. Close to town and Hurst Castle and excellent hiking. The room was sparkling clean with a very comfortable bed and excellent amenities. The continental breakfast was ample. Loved it! read more

What a wonderful location. The staff was very helpful. Had a non-view room on the 1st floor and it was much more reasonable than any other hotel that we researched. Cheese, veggies, crackers and Martinelli's was was very relaxing out by the hot tub. Unfortunately, no view from there, but then I would have sat there all evening. Very clean and modern. We'll definitely stay there again. The beach is right across the street and was fun and beautiful. Up the road a bit (north) there is a protected beach for the elephant seals that is well worth the stop. As for Cambria: We enjoyed the village. I would easily go back there versus Solvang. read more

My favorite place to stay in Cambria! The staff is always so welcoming when we check in. (I think everytime we have come, Mary has helped us out, she is so sweet & friendly). The rooms are spacious and very clean! The views of the beach are breathtaking. It does not matter what room you stay in because the ocean is literally across from the hotel. They offer a continental breakfast in the morning and have a nice snack set up in the afternoon (veggies, crackers, salami, cheese, etc). Prices are very reasonable especially if you do the "winter special". I will definitely be coming back again next year! I also highly recommend the seafood restaurant right next door, it's called the Sea Chest, but make sure you take cash. No credit cards accepted. read more
