I called Jay to run 10" ducting in the attic, connecting an in line blower to a chimney. He was able to come out the next day for a quote and a few days later for the job. Job came out cheaper than expected. They didn't need as much ducting as they originally thought and were able to re-use an existing chimney I had instead of cutting a new one into the roof. Absolutely AMAZING! I cannot stress enough how wonderful it has been to have their technician (Keith) come out and fix my heat. For context, I have a Coleman furnace that has never worked properly since installation 10 years ago. I have had soooo many people come out to troubleshoot and other than losing my call-out fee and having them agree about the cold air being blown out, none have ever been helpful. I decided to go all electric for heating and air conditioning and went with a heat pump and all new duct work for my home that was built in the 1950s. I had solar added to my home so it was the logical choice. I was quoted a price for a Mitsubishi system, but of course "supply chain" caused a change and I went with the Carrier system to avoid a 4-6 month delay in having the installation complete. I went with Moore Mechanical because of their years in business and most of the reviews I read were very positive. Kevin, sales technician, who came out and gave a great sales pitch. He was very knowledgeable of the products and design. He definitely made the process smooth. The technicians that came out, Luis and Danny, were great. They were polite, professional and efficient. They took the time to answer any questions I had while they were working and kept me up to date on the progress of the job. I will say Moore Mechanical was not the most affordable bid I got, which is why they didn't get 5 stars, but I am definitely satisfied with the product they installed and service I was provided. read more

Buyer Beware. (This pertains to an older house in Berkeley.) They put in an undersized heat pump heating/cooling system. Subsequent load calculations (unfortunately not done beforehand by Moore -- it's not required in Berkeley unlike other towns like Piedmont, but it should be -- I had to pay someone else to do it), call for a system in the range of 55K+ BTU. And they replaced a 78K BTU gas furnace. But they installed a 38K BTU heat pump. They tried, and are still trying, to sell me an additional resistance "heat strip" to supplement the system. But that would have caused high electricity bills. Instead, there are higher BTU heat pumps that would have done the job without having to resort to outdated and expensive resistance heating. When confronted they said that they put in the biggest heat pump of that brand which was not true, and irrelevant because I didn't ask for a particular brand. They chose it. They also left a potential lethal situation in the electrical panel: wrong brand and size of breaker. The city inspector told me to immediately stop using the heater (in the winter) until it could be corrected. Moore had to have a separate electrician, employed outside the company, to correct the situation. Even there he changed the breaker but not the fuses at the outside unit, so had to be changed by someone else before the city inspector would sign off. They also ran bigger ducting to a room that I asked for more heating in but didn't enlarge the existing or add a new register so the impact was nil. Also, the day of installation the rep tried to get me to up-size my electrical panel for several thousand dollars. I didn't and they made the existing one work. Seems to be a tactic of some electricians, PV installers and this HVAC company that is unneeded and expensive, and perhaps makes it easier for them in that they don't need to re-arrange the circuits to fit the new one, in some cases. The homeowner can't be expected to know all this stuff about load calcs, etc. The HVAC company needs to provide this. I had to educate myself after finding the system took 3-4 hours to go from 62 to 67 degrees. It also freezes up in temps as high as 50 deg. outside. Buyer beware. read more

Simply put. Just don't call them. AC broke on very hot day. I waited on answering service for very long time before spoke to someone. The lady on the phone said someone can come that afternoon, so made the appointment. Guess what, no body showed up or called. During wait time, I turned down appointments from others because I thought it is not nice to double-book. Later I called them again, after another long wait on phone, they told me they actually don't open on weekend and the answering service made a mistake. At this time it was already very late to contact other guys, so ended up in heat-wave without AC. So simply put, don't call them, there are other local providers that are honest and responsive. I felt bad to turn them down and wasted time window with these guys to have AC fixed quickly during heat wave. read more

Just moved to the area, wanted to have some routine maintenance done, like oil the blower motor. The furnace has a Moore Mechanical sticker, so called them. The person who answered said it would cost $125. I asked if that included oiling the motor, she didn't know then transferred me to someone who would know. Waited for at least 30 minutes, no one picked up. Bottom line, if this is the way you're treated when asking a simple question, I don't want to deal with them. I see at least 10 other HVAC companies in this area with better ratings that Moore, and I will be using one of them. I will use goof off to remove the Moore sticker from the furnace. read more

I've been paying for a Bronze package for a few years and a few weeks ago a technician came out to do the winter maintanance on my furnace. He told me that the "blower" was over heating and shutting off and said that the furnace would need to be cleaned. At the time, this technician seemed very confused and also mentioned that my air conditioning pipe was draining into the crawl space. I reminded him that Moore Mechanical had been out several years ago and pulled my air conditioning unit so I didn't even have one. I was sent an estimate for over $2,400 to clean the unit and one of the charges was close to $900 to have an additional technician on "stand by" for three hours. I tried calling them and left a few messages to get some clarification about that, but they never got back to me. I had another company come out for a second opinion and they have advised me that there is nothing wrong with the unit. Oh, and I will add that the filter they used to replace the old one wasn't even the right size! read more

He claimed the igniter was faulty and charged an exorbitant price of $459 to replace it which included a service charge of $125. Three hours later our system was not working. The next Moore service representative diagnosed a circuit relay on the circuit board which did turn out to be the problem. Moore mechanical wanted over $ 800 to replace. we bought the board for $140 from APD appliance parts Distributers and it took 20 minutes to install! ThIs Outfit is Way overpriced !!! read more
