Me and my friend came in to pick up one thing, there was a young guy who was nice and helpful but there was an older woman working there who was extremely rude and seemed annoyed that we were shopping there. She rolled her eyes at us multiple times and was very condescending when she talked to us. It seemed as if she was trying to be more rude than helpful and she made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I would recommend making the drive to the Walnut Creek Ace, they are much nicer, more helpful and have much better customer service read more

The quintessential neighborhood hardware store. They stock everything that they physically can in their relatively small space. The owner Bill is an honest and very high-energy individual who will gladly help you find whatever you need. The employees tend to be high school kids who are always polite, if not always super-knowledgeable on hardware. This store is a Moraga fixture. Any place that saves us Moragans from having to drive to Lafayette or Concord is good in my book. read more

I am so impressed with the friendliness, knowledge, and positive attitude of John, Susan and the whole team. If they don't have exactly what I need, they recommend alternatives and if that doesn't work they suggest other stores in the area that might be able to help me. In addition, their store "Across the Way" is perfect for needed gifts and items for our home; plus they have canister refills for our Soda Stream. I'm not a handyman-type and they are always super-helpful locating that little plumbing widget or thing-a-ma-jig that I need for a small repair. I always head here first before going to the nearby OSH. Their selection is obviously not as big as OSH's but most of the time they seem to have what I need. Matches the "small town" feel of Moraga. Ed S. is right - this really IS the quintessential neighborhood hardware store. The staff there is excellent, knowledgeable, and very service-focused. Unless what you've bought fits into the equivalent of a paper lunch bag, you'll have an offer to carry things to your car, etc. And they have no issues with recommending another place (even OSH, whose arrival has certainly hurt their business?) if they don't have what you need in stock. Additionally, everyone who works at this family-owned business knows the ins and outs of the area, and can make recommendations for all sorts of services. VERY helpful. We are customers for life. From the moment we stepped foot into this Ace, Susan was helping us pick out paint for our kitchen cabinets and spent so much time with us. All the employees are extremely helpful, friendly, and hardworking, even through a pandemic. They made sure to keep the store open during the Shelter In Place, putting up signs and stickers to help maintain 6 ft and sanitizing EVERYTHING, daily. Yes, their ratings are great, but what's really great is the consistency over time of those ratings and that points to ended owners. Bill and his wife and the great local staff of young people had me the first time I came in after the real OSH closed. So damn helpful and knowledgeable and of they don't know they ask somebody else that does so you're not home with wrong stuff. This week I had to go to new OSH (Outdoor..,) for something MH didn't carry. Service incredibly uneven. Like going to HD without the lower prices. Go to MH. I went into our local privately owned hardware store and was helped by this delightful young college student named Michael...he was terrific! He sorted me out in no time! Great service- good staff.... this really what makes this local store different from a Home Depot

This place is a reminder that there are still small businesses in the neighborhood where you can get quality service and have a conversation with the store owner who won't try to upsell or not know anything about the product. They have a surprisingly large selection of just about anything you need to get a job done. I found myself coming back here for anything from paint to plumbing and electrical supplies. They are also easy to talk to and order whatever they don't have on hand in a short amount of time (ordered some specialized light bulbs in 2 days time!). With the other businesses in Moraga suffering, I hope this place continues to do what it does - help guys like me with home improvements and other projects make our experience and work just a little bit easier. read more

WHAT A FANTASTIC STORE. I came in for peat moss and ended up in a long conversation about nature and wildlife with the owner, who is also a Lamorinda native and just an all around amazing person. They make an effort to reduce the use of harmful and poisonous rodenticides, Roundup, etc which is extremely forward thinking and helps them educate people rather than just saying "the customer demands it". They are the most friendly, helpful folks. Even though I live in Berkeley I will make a point to come back here just because they're so great. read more

I can't tell you how many times these folks have bailed me out of problems. They're knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, friendly and good lookin! You can't help but enjoy your visit to the store. It reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in a small rural town in Texas - they call you by name, anticipate your requirements and always, always go out of their way to resolve your issue if you need help. I purchased eight brass wood screws here for a home repair project; one of the nice things about this store is that you can buy exactly the number of fasteners you need, rather than a prepackaged quantity. The screws were 95 cents each -- tariffs? --which would have been OK if two or them hadn't broken off as I inserted them. When I returned the broken hardware I did not receive any sort of apology for the inconvenience. Instead, the owner grilled me -- "Were you putting them in wood? Did you drill holes first?" Yes and yes. Only after he was done insulting my intelligence did he grudgingly refund my two bucks. I'd like to support this little local merchant, but he is such pill I doubt I will return unless I have no other option. read more

Wow! What an amazing local hardware store! I was astonished by the service I received on Thursday when I went in to find some way to connect my faucet to a siphoning device for my fish tank. One of the employees, Gerald, told me that I had a very specialized thread on my faucet, and if I wanted to get an adapter to fit that specific thread, I would have to figure out the manufacturer of my sink, and go to a plumbing store like General Plumbing to get a very specific part ordered. I told him that it was my day off and I want to get this project done. He immediately took ownership, and spent a good 30 minutes trying to find the perfect solution to make it work. 2 piece of rubber tubing, 2 different sized thread adapters, a nut here, a washer there, and a roll of Teflon tape later, he conjured up a connection! It only cost me $11.34 for the whole rig, but the best part of all... IT WORKED!!! I took the thing home, and was able to siphon 30 gallons out of my 55 gallon tank in a matter of 5 minutes, without spilling a drop. The commitment to service was extremely refreshing, and although (due to Gerald's brilliance and creativity) I only spend $11 this time, I will never go to another hardware store for anything in my life. Last time I was in, Bill fixed my caulking gun, unplugged my tube of caulk I thought had dried up, and gave me a bag of popcorn -- all without selling me anything! Exceptional employees, patient and friendly, who gave me terrific advice about a small project as well as recommending the right tools. Later, when I had to make an exchange, they were equally helpful. They also referred me to a local handy man who couldn't be nicer or more reasonably priced (unlike the handymen I found through yelp who didn't even return my calls). Today I dropped by OSH (I fell for the banners being flown about for their "Grand opening" )and walked in to see a line of employees who were directing people where to find what they needed....they guy I was standing in front of stepped back from me to talk into his microphone then directed his attention to a man who stepped in front of me...why? I just walked out and came straight to Moraga hardware. The cashier came out to help me locate what I needed, helped me find a product for a gnat issue and as I was checking out the owner was there making some human/neighbor conversation. A great neighborhood store! OSH is right nearby, but I always shop here, primarily for the service and advice. At OSH I frequently cannot find an employee to ask for help, but here when I enter the store, an employee always drops what he/she is doing, and asks if I need help, then escorts me to the proper location in the store. They frequently have specialty items that were used when the homes in our area were constructed that I can't find at OSH. And if I need only one bolt, screw, fastener, washer, etc., I can buy it, rather than a blister pack of more than I will ever need. How long does one wait when you are the only other person in the store at 8 a.m., waiting for the owner to finish chatting it up with a friend about his daughter's college rowing prowess.
