The staff was friendly and the place is very pretty, but charm can only get you so far. They seating arrangement felt like a cluttered soup pantry. While I get a busy restaurant on a Saturday tries to maximize real estate we were literally shoulder to shoulder with every guest in there. The food: We ordered the burrata and grapes add prosciutto, this was good. The burrata was interestingly holding form and buttery I liked it. For main I ordered the linguine vongole. This was just sad. It came out looking like the saddest bowl of wet pasta I'd ever seen. I'd worked at Il mulino and Il falco and cook clam pasta at home often. For an almost $30 bowl of pasta it should be shining vibrant and colorful. This bowl was grey. The "sauce" tasted like they used three week old chicken stock and thickened it with a cornstarch slurry. Two of the tiniest slivers of parsley and one crushed red pepper flake seemed to drown in the sauce. My partner order the caccio e pepe which it is what it is. Don't expect to reinvent the wheel with this one. I'd never been here before, And unfortunately never will again. A little lemon white wine and flat leaf parsley go a hell of a long way. Cute place. Love the rustic feel. Very European. The bartender gets an A++ for serving us the most delicious cocktails. We basically told him what flavors we were looking for and he hooked it up!!! I know for certain we had Tito's martini , Chianti, a couple bartender specials, and cucumber martinis that were soooooo refreshing. By the time we were seated at our table, it was starting to get late. The food was just "ok" for me. The best thing I tasted was the burrata with tomatoes. Literally melts in your mouth. Everything is on point in this busy upscale Italian treasure of a restaurant. I've been here twice now and both times I've been impressed. Tonight it was just two of us we stopped in for dinner. The main dining room was super busy and noisy so we sat in the lounge. Our server Michael was on it! He was attentive, personal and did a great job. For dinner we spliT a few things. The burrata app was mouth watering good, the Bibb salad which is JUST lettuce and dressing yet unbelievably satisfying. And for dinner we got the halibut and the gnocchi. Growing up in a mostly Italian family, I've been spoiled with good food all of my life. I hate going out for Italian because it hardly ever tastes like home. I have to say, though, I was impressed by Morandi. I was able to make a 7:00 Wednesday reservation the day beforehand. When we got there, we waited a couple of minutes to be seated. The restaurant was already crowded. We were placed at an awesome round table that was only booth seating. I thought the restaurant itself was cool - it gives you the feeling of being in an Italian wine cellar. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees to split. For the appetizer, we ordered burrata which was served with roasted tomatoes in olive oil with balsamic vinegar. It's pretty hard to hate burrata anyway, but this was great. The tomatoes were actually pretty tasty. Also, the servers didn't judge us when we needed extra bread for this...or when it became clear that we had inhaled the entire (fairly large) portion in about one minute flat. For our two entrees, we split the lemon pasta and the eggplant entree. The kitchen pre divided the pasta for us which was really nice. The pasta was VERY lemony which I enjoyed a lot, but I could see where unsuspecting individuals might dislike this dish. I loved this though. The pasta itself was perfectly crafted and cooked. The eggplant dish was very interesting. Another pretty large portion, too. The half eggplant was stuffed with peppers, tomatoes, roasted onions, and bread chunks. Another great dish. We were so stuffed that I took most of the eggplant to go! Our total bill came to just around $60 for two people, which is a great deal ESPECIALLY for the quality of food. The service was good, too. Someone was always around to check in on us and everyone was pleasant. On our way out, six members of the staff said goodbye to us. Overall, Morandi is a solid restaurant that felt warm and inviting. Came here last night with a friend. The space--very casual and French chic; there's outdoor seating which is a plus. We sat inside but it was way too crowded and so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. The service was spotty and the waiter took forever to come get our order. The food--the burrata we shared was delicious and fresh. The steak I order was good but nothing out of this world. The chicken my friend ordered was okay. We had a glass of wine each and the bill was outrageous. I don't think the pricing is fair considering I could've dined at an upscale restaurant for the same price. Don't think I'll come again. If I could give zero stars, I would give zero stars. This place is not a place where you have a relaxed and enjoyable dinner with friends. It is SO packed and loud that you can barely understand your own words. I feel like they overbook their restaurant and host more people than they should. As a result, I also felt completely unsafe sitting in this crowd. There is zero air ventilation let alone any air filters. The air is just insanely sticky in their dining room. How can they host so many people without masks in such a tiny space when people have to wear masks on a plane where people eat, drink, and are vaccinated as well? My friend and I ate at Morandi's a few days ago and were extremely disappointed. Giving this place two stars is a bit of a stretch because there were no positives from our visit to the restaurant. I got the egg noodles and it was disgusting! If they had served me their noodles or some type of frozen tv dinner I'm not sure I could tell the difference. My friend got what could be described as a pizza (though it had some fancy Italian name) and it was disappointing. The service was subpar as well. We waited so long for our check that we began asking ourselves if there was some signal that we were supposed to give our waiter to let him know we were ready to pay. After about 10 minutes we finally asked another waiter if he could get us our check. Which he did. I wanted to like this place, I really did. It looks like a place that would be good but isn't. Morandi, nestled in a sweet nook of Manhattan's picturesque (and hip!) West Village, served up a truly scrumptious meal. Whilst fretting over where to eat on a bustling Saturday night (memorial day weekend, no less! RIP Susan's sweet Geoffrey), Suzanne's ex-lover, Graham, recommended this Italian gem. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a very fine man named Billy. After a brief discussion of proper footwear for a New York summer eve (dare we say, slides?), we were seated outside at a quaint wooden table that brought back memories of our Tuscan summer in '69. We eagerly browsed the menu, our stomachs grumbling in anticipation, and we finally settled on the Pasta Bolognese, chicken and broccoli rabe for our vitamin-packed greens. A mere 6 minutes later (yes, we said 6!), our food arrived. Briefly doubtful that the food might be undercooked or ill prepared, after a first bite we realized... our assumption was gravely misguided. Not only was the pasta a perfect al Dante, the chicken was absolutely superb! The broccoli was had the subtle hint of lemon and chili; a perfect bitterness that did not overwhelm the pallet. What a lousy dining experience! I had always wanted to try this place so when my bf suggested it over Olio e Piu I was onboard. The outdoor dining area was nicely setup, but things did not get off to a good start with our taciturn waiter with the permanent frown. He was actually a very good waiter, however I'd choose warm and friendly over attitude any time. The next issue was that two women in our outdoor plexiglass enclosed corral decided to have a very lengthy and loud cellphone conversation on speakerphone with their French friend without a word from the abundant staff lurking about. We finally chose to move to another table rather than risk getting into a thing with these two clearly oblivious women. So now onto the food... Our salad was split into two for us to share, which was a very nice gesture, and although extremely simple, it was the best part of our meal. All of the veggies were crisp and fresh and the very light dressing allowed us to taste all of the ingredients. The homemade pasta itself was good however my dish seemed like they just forgot to put on the sauce. Like the salad I was able to taste all of the ingredients, but it was disappointingly dry. My boyfriend's pasta dish was better in that it had sauce, but it was bland and tasted very much like chicken stock. We were not offered fresh pepper or cheese with our dishes, but we did receive a little paper bag of tasteless bread and some olive oil. This place is good. Super expensive for what you get, but good nonetheless. Very tasty if smallish portions. Stopped her for brunch on a very nice Sunday and all the table outside were taken. That said, it was easy enough to sit inside, think that never used to be the case. With so many other options about 2 blocks away, this place should probably re-invent itself. Starting with a re-tool of the menu...including price points. Most past dishes are over 20 for brunch and they werent that sexy. Good not great. The highlight was the bibb lettuce salad. Choosing a good place to eat in New York City (NYC) can be a daunting task for any tourist, but thankfully, we had a New Yorker's recommendation for Morandi, West Village, NYC.  After a quick cab ride, we crowded into this trendy Italian restaurant.  Like so many NYC restaurants, Morandi is a small, neighborhood eatery. Morandi was packed but we had reservations and only had to wait just a few minutes to secure a table.  We were ushered through main dining room into a small alcove by the bar with about 5 tables.  All around us the waitstaff was bustling about.  I was quickly becoming claustrophobic.  End disappointment.   I quickly got over the cramped quarters.  Everything about Morandi was exceptional.  Great service and great food!  Now, instead of grimacing about the lack of elbow room, I commend them on their use of space (which in NYC is a hot commodity). Hearing about this trendy, rustic Italian restaurant in the West Village, we knew we had to check it out. We were able to snag a reservation on a Saturday night. As we arrived it was clearly the place to be! I had read that it is loud here and that is certainly true but it almost got in with the atmosphere. This looked like a place that should be alive and that it was! We were seated right away and well taken care of by our server. We also appreciated the portions. While we got plenty of food, the portions weren't so overwhelming that we we full just by looking at the food. Being on vacation we weren't able to take leftovers so we loved the slightly smaller portions. It was a great experience and a place we will definitely revisit next time! read more

Came here with a group of people on Friday night. We had a really great time dining here - the food and wine were delicious and the service was great! We ordered a few appetizers and a bottle of wine to start with. Cheese platter was great. Grilled octopus was good too but there was not much octopus in it. I do understand that having been raised in Italy for most of my life, I come to Italian restaurants with very high expectations. Unfortunately they are rarely met. Most of the time because little attention is placed on the quality of the food that is plated and brought to the tables and a lot of attention is placed to a high priced wine selection. I understand that. Business is business. However that is not what is not what people look for in an "Italian experience". People want the food to have one essential ingredient: LOVE. That is what we are the best at. That is what makes us Italians unique. I didn't feel loved at Morandi. The wine, Valpolicella Bugiardo, upstaged the food. My Tagliata was cold and bland to the point that those of us who ordered it had to season it with salt. The meat was tendered but that didn't make us for the lack of flavor. The focaccia with mushrooms was the highlight. Well seasoned and crisp. Our antipasto with assorted cold meats and cheese was very modest. Not enough to feed two people. Let alone a party of six. We did not expect it to be generous, but the plate presented to us was something out of a kids menu. The service was good. They were attentive and courteous. Hence the three stars. Not easy to do that is a space that is so packed with people that you have to shout to chat with the rest of your party. I would be back to give them another shot. Why not. Delicious, casual Italian restaurant. We chose indoor seating instead of outdoors. They had dividers between the tables, but it was very packed. If I wasn't vaccinated, I would be a little paranoid about COVID due to amount of people in the restaurant. The burrata e pomodori e basilico was amazing, even though it strangely didn't come with bread and we had to order bread separately. The tagliatelle alla bolognese was good, but not the best I've had. Overall, everything tasted good and the ambiance of the restaurant was very homey. I came to Morandi for dinner with a few coworkers. It was my second time coming after visiting for lunch with a friend a week before. I enjoy Morandi for the warm ambience and fresh pasta. I havent had much besides the gnocchi, but being a fan of gnocchi, really enjoy what I've eaten here. My coworkers ordered the risotto and bolognese respectively, and both enjoyed their dishes. It wasnt crowded at 6:30 on a Monday night so we were seated immediately and tended to efficiently. I appreciated the service and hospitality of the wait staff and rapid turnover for the meals. Overall I can only really complain about the semi-stale table bread, but am generally pleased. read more

The seats by the wall are very close, so it's pretty troublesome getting in and out (particularly if in the corner). The food's decent. I wanted the French Toast, but unfortunately they were out of it that day, so I got the ham and cheese crepe (fagottini con prosciutto). Much fattier than expected. it's packed with some ham and a lot of cheese, but what really topped it off was the oil. Taste-wise, it was okay. The ham was a little tougher than I liked. I'd come back here again, but I probably wouldn't get the ham and cheese crepe again. Service is average. I'm struggling how to write this review because overall the food was pretty good, but in terms of being seated we had a bad experience. We had a 130 pm reservation for 6 and were not seated until around 2 pm-- and that was after several times of asking what was going on, the hostess finally told us she needed the manager to go tell the people sitting there to leave. I didn't feel like they really cared- not much apology or anything. In terms of the food, the mixed pastry basket was delicious. I got the carbonara which was good but note that it's full strips of bacon as opposed to little pieces like you may be used to. The crepe with Nutella was good but I wanted it to be more stuffed. Our waitress was great and extremely helpful to my friends with allergies. So overall it was a mixed bag experience read more

The place is cozy and moderately priced. The foot is very good. Seriously. The service is excellent. That said, the best feature is the coffee. Their espresso is absolutely unbelievable. Let me clarify. The quality of espresso in New York varies from place to place. Most of the time, it's not bad. In Paris, it's a notch better on average. In Venice, espresso is poop. Really. I, too, was surprised. The best espresso I've ever tasted so far was in Rome. Rome is unique: even squalid holes on the outskirts invariably serve an excellent shot. I thought this had something to do with the air or water quality and/or specifics, and I also thought it was impossible to get Roman quality espresso anywhere else in the world, until I ordered one at Morandi. First, where do I start? What a wonderful evening! It had already been a great night and upon walking around it turns out I'd walked past this gem dozens of times a week and never stopped in.
