Can't say enough great things about Moreno's BBQ. Hands down best BBQ I've had anywhere. Barbacoa and beef brisket breakfast tacos were so flavorful and moist. Folks working there were as nice as could be and even brought some free samples to our table of different items to try when they overhead us talking about other menu items we'd like to order someday. You could tell that they are passionate about what they do and strive for the highest quality levels possible. Was at Moreno Barbecue for the first time today. Went with family at their suggestion. I was not steered wrong. Had a smoked-burger. What a delicious surprise in a traditional American classic. This was my first time ordering, I placed an order online and when I arrived I waited like 2 mins for my order. I love frito pies and was excited to try theirs. I've had my fair share and this is such a great size! It can definitely be shared for 2 people if you want a small taste. I love the amount of jalapeños I got, when I order other places a side will give me 3 slices and they gave me enough. The frito pie has such good flavor and enough of everything! Moreno Barbeque is a BYOB brick-and-mortar barbeque restaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating. I have been dying to try one of their smash burgers. They heavily advertise them on their social media, and the burgers looks mind blowing in the pictures. Normally, when I am trying out a barbeque place, I want to try their smoked meats, not the sandwiches. But it's different at Moreno - their sandwich menu is huge and all of the pictures I have seen look absolutely delectable. I got the smash burger with cheddar cheese, all veggies, and mayo/mustard. It was amazing! The burger is so juicy. It's messy, just like good barbeque should be. I would like to come back to check out the breakfast tacos, which they started doing during the week now, as well try out a few other sandwiches. Slow down and look for Moreno Barbecue's white trailer and the shaded/covered picnic tables at the corner of Stassney Lane & Menchaca Rd (I am getting used to the name change too). So many great things to try here but I am highly advising you to try the smoked delicious barbacoa that Moreno Barbecue nails on Sunday mornings. Order the night before (Saturday) for a pickup time convenient for you on their website. I recommend starting with 1lb per 2 people but spoil yourself and get a 2lb'er. You won't regret it! The barbacoa is not fatty, delicious, has a gentle smoked flavor, and comes with the required sides for barbacoa tacos such as homemade flour tortillas, chopped white onions, fresh cilantro, and wedges of lime. Also we got a nice red salsa too to top everthing off. You will appreciate the no-waiting-in-any-kind-of-line-on-a-Sunday kind of Sunday because you thought ahead and ordered the night before. Of course you can always walk up too if you prefer but I would hate for you to miss out on a Barbacoa Sunday IMO. ¡Cuidado! (watch out), though! They usually sell out before they are set to close for the day. I saw this bbq joint when I was driving through the area and decided to stop by. I'm a big fan of Texas bbq and really wanted some brisket. It was towards the end of the day so ofcourse they were selling out of some meats. I decided to get their brisket and also their pulled pork with a side of beans, Mac and cheese. The combo were reasonably priced and so I felt that I could try an array of stuff. I really loved the sides, their Mac and cheese were quite unique and I think they use gouda in their mac. Super delicious and very cheesy. The beans were flavorful and I'm not sure how to explain but it had a Mexican spice to it and flavor so it was pretty unique, so I really liked that mix. The brisket were tender and I liked the outer crust, and the pulled pork was juicy and fell apart. If you are in the area, this place is a great stop for good bbq! read more

I wish I could give half stars because this is worth more than 4 but not quite 5 stars. I got the brisket nachos. You can get sour cream and jalapeños on it or on the side, but I didn't want those today. It's chips, queso, brisket, and bbq sauce. It came out fairly quickly but wasn't hot (warm at best) which was a little disappointing. It had really good flavor though! Before I started eating, a couple walked in and my table was on the way to the order counter and they lady goes "ohhh that looks fun" and the man leaned in to see better and asked me what I had. I saw them after the meal as I was leaving and they had ordered the brisket nachos too and very much enjoyed them! Sweet tea is good, I usually put a little bit of unsweet too. I've tried to mix lemonade before and it tasted watered down, so now I just stick with the tea. I've been to this bbq restaurant a few times and I try to get something new each time. When you've evolved like Moreno BBQ (from a food truck to a brick and mortar), its important to have a good handle on your identity. You couldn't blame a BBQ place in Austin for having an identity crisis. When a small place in East Austin ends up on Amex commercials and partnering with a sushi place, all bets are off. But the folks at Moreno BBQ know what they're doing, and who they are. Look no further than the grilled cheese brisket sandwich, with Texas toast. It stresses function, common sense, and an obvious marriage of flavors. You swing for the fences when you get a fastball right down middle, no need to get cute. All of this to say, it's amazing and I can't believe I haven't had it before. The Gouda Mac and cheese with brisket is another example of, "why not?" It's also a sneaky way to demonstrate the diversity of their moist and tender brisket. The jalapeño and cheese sausage wrap was, unsurprisingly, delicious but I've come to expect that in our town. Bonus points for them not skimping on the tortilla and using a hood quality flour tortilla. The pork belly sandwich was the only one that didn't blow us away. It wasn't bad, it just felt like too much was happening. Gotta let that pork belly shine!! Overall, I love this place for their presentation (clean, dare I say minimalist?) and how they approach the food. I will come back for the tacos and expect more of the same. Great new Bbq truck in South Austin. The ribs are awesome, very good dry rub seasoning. I didn't even think of trying the bbq sauce until I was halfway through the rack. Was a little disappointed by this. Brisket moist and lean plates weren't impressive. Just tasted like s&p brisket (couldn't taste the smoke/wood smoke). The Mac and cheese was interesting I can taste the Gouda but I also could taste Kraft cheese powder or something like it so idk about that. Sauce is more on the mustard side. this barbecue was wildly disappointing. i got the pulled pork sandwich and i had to get an extra different bun because the one they originally gave me was soggy, couldn't pick it up. the pork tasted like the inside hallway of a house under construction i couldn't explain it any better than that. if you like warm greek yogurt and undercooked corn, the cream corn is for you! it is insanely over priced. i spent $45 on two sandwiches and two fountain drinks. my boyfriend liked the burger, but i will not be coming back. read more
